    Thanks Magnar. These are really useful. I bought the ATR a few days ago and have tried running through a few checklists. It really helps in these tutorials that you annotate on screen where we should be looking to find some of the information or controls. For example, in the "before propeller rotation" checklist, the first items is "CDLS - ON". Until this video, I had no idea what the CDLS is or where to look for it.

    Amazing tutorial. Clear and comprehensive. When I was a kid I used to watch ATR's on my hometown regional airport (I don't know if kids do that kind of activity anymore) so this plane was must buy for me on the day it was released. However at that point I managed to do only casual flights and was troubled by couple details. Now I found this channel and actually learned something. This gives so much depth to the simulator. I know what plane I'm flying this weekend.

    Hi, thank you very much for your tutorials, very very much! Possible to make a tutorial on how to divert to a new destination after a missed approach and in route, in the FMC? I can do it with the A320, but nothing works in the MFSF ATR. Thanks

      When on FPLN page on MCDU, you press the left key of any waypoint, you will access the Lateral Navigation page for that waypoint. At the right you will find "new destination" I think just like in A320. So you can choose your new arrival airport and select STAR, approach, transition waypoint, via... Tip: if you wonder what's the nearest airport with a suitable runway to land, press three times the Direct To page and you will get a list of the nearest airport and the max available runway. 2)Under "Options/General Options/accessibility" you can turn of the "instrument name tooltips"
    I guess you will find the right switches in the ATR without the big blue Pop-up Info tooltips😅

    Hello. at 19:15 you can see the tab, t/o tq and the temperature is 21 degrees Celsius. What is this?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Год назад

      Engine performance depends on atmospheric temperature (and pressure.) The temperature sensors in the aircraft may not show the correct temperature, as they are relatively close to the engines, and the temperature on the apron may not be the same as on the runway. If the tempearture in the ATIS deviates from the indicated temperature, the pilots may correct the ENG SAT (engine static air temperature) with the +/- to get the correct torque (TQ) for take-off (T/O.)

    Hello Magnar. Great tutorial but I have just a couple questions. I can't seem to get the TRU to engage when I press it. Everything else seems to work fine but for that. Second, as I have always understood it, in the real world it is SOP for ATR pilots to taxi with just one prop going. Is this just a company specific SOP thing? Thanks.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  11 месяцев назад

      I cannot answer for the TRU. When it comes to single engine taxi, ATR no longer recommend to do it before takeoff. It is better to start the engines before taxi as it 1) otherwise takes away consentration from the crew, and 2) if there's a problem during start it is always better to stay at the parking stand. However, we do taxi single engine after landing (after a 2 minute cooling period).

    Very good video. Only one thing - you did not cover the setting of the flight director / FMAs on the ground. The video transitioned from there being no FMAs on the PFD, to HDG (LNAV armed) and IAS (VNAV IAS armed). Are these the modes that are always used? Is there no dedicated "TOGA mode" on the flight director? I was surprised to see that IAS is armed on the ground, as wouldn't this give false FD commands until the set speed is reached? I'm not a ATR pilot and I'm not questioning your fantastic knowledge :o) I'm just interested in the FD set up prior to take off and noted that it wasn't covered here. Thanks.

    • @ATR600Pilot
      @ATR600Pilot 2 месяца назад

      Before taxi, you set up the FGCP in 6 steps:
      - Select Nav source 1 to FM1*
      - Select Nav source 2 to FM2*
      - Select ALT SEL to initial cleared altitude/flight level
      - Select coupling to the PF side
      - Select rwy heading on HDG SEL
      - Press HDG, LNAV and IAS pushbuttons**
      * In case of a non-gps departure (i.e. radar vectors, conventional navigation...) you may decide to select nav source 1 and 2 to V/ILS1 and 2, respectively
      ** Basic modes are HDG and IAS. But you can also use if appropriate LNAV (will follow horizontal flight plan) and VNAV IAS (engaged pressing VNAV before taxi, and it will follow the vertical flight plan, respecting altitude constraints)
      Any question feel free to ask!

    • @ATR600Pilot
      @ATR600Pilot 2 месяца назад

      Idle Gate prevents the power levers from getting behind Flight Idle inflight as this can lead to a loss of control of the aircraft. It is pulled and pushed automatically by the plane but in case of an electric failure (sorry I don't remember right now what bus powers this system) PM will need to pull it back manually on touchdown.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Год назад

      CRANK means the engine starter is used to turn the engine, for example to ventilate the engine after a failed start. START A and B are the igniters. The engine has two igniters (A and B) that are used to ignite the fuel during engine start.

    This happens with both the ATR and the Airbus A320.
    It would appear that just before generating the lift necessary to "detach" the wheels, modeling the roll makes the aircraft excessively light.
    I am a pilot of light propeller aircraft and I know the effect of crosswind or the need to compensate the propeller torque with the pedals in a single engine but I have never had problems when the nose wheel lifts and the main landing gear is still on ground.
    I would like to know your opinion or if any other subscriber has the same problem.
    Thank you

      Hi. The rudder pedals are too sensitive. With the standard settings, it appears that full deflection is reached with half pedal deflection. Another problem is that there's no aerodynamic feedback from the rudder. Therefore, it is easy to overcorrect.

    Thanks for the video. Just a quick one. Does the FMS in the Asobo's ATR allow for replacing the arrival runway in case we need it? I have been flying the Asobo's ATR for a while and I could not change the arrival runway once set. I assume I am doing something wrong most likely...

    Hello! I really appreciate your tutorials :) I have one issue with the plane. My NP% doesn't go over 63.5% at Ground Idle. I need to give it more throttle or else I will not have enough hydraulic pressure and power. Is that a correct value in real plane so in my updated MSFS plane it's acting differently than in your video or this is now a bug in the msfs plane?

    • @FlywithMagnar

      NP should be 70.8 % at ground idle. I know the team behind the ATR model are correcting this issue for the next update. (When I made the video, I kept the power levers a little ahead of the GI position.)

    I have a question though when are you refuelling ? I presume before passengers are coming but at what stage is it done usually ?
    To remove trucks and else before taxiing the only way is to call for a push back as you would in real life.
    Dont you have to switch on NAV lights as soon as GPU is on ? I heard it is one way to announce groumd crew the plane is being operated.
    And thank you again for you for your mention about me i am much obliged to you 🙏

    My question please: sometimes programming de FMS I don’t know what I do and all the flightplan appear Yellow even in middle of the flight all the pages of the flightplan becomes yellow and it’s not possible to make it green again.
    Is this a bug of the ASOBO ATR or I am doing something wrong.

      When the flight plan becomes yellow, it is because you are editing it. When you have finished editing, press the EXEC key to validate the changes, and the flight plan becomes green.

    Hey, thank you very much for making this video's. I didn't know about the updated FMS initialisation steps. Apart from the bugs and limitations you already mentioned, i noticed a couple of things the sim aircraft and here too which seemed like bugs to me, so if you could actually confirm that would be great.
    1. I noticed you entered cruise altitude which was higher than the initial cleared altitude of 7000 feet. But then when you later came back to perf init page again to access weights page before entering the final weights from the loadsheet, the crz altitude was changed to 7000 ft. I think this happened because you entered that altitude in the FGCP. I suspect the real plane doesn't behave like this, because otherwise you wouldn't have followed this procedure.
    2. In the same page, it seemed like the alternate airport and altitude went missing too after flight plan was initialised.
    3. The transition altitudes are set at 18000 ft, does the real aircraft automatically detect a transition altitude form the fms nav data and the citypair?
    Also, do you use the sec fpln in real life?
    Thanks for the videos, great learning experience.

      1 and 3, I think you are right. 2, it is a bug from MSFS, hope it is fixed with the new update. In Secondary FPLN, in real life before departure it is set the Engine Out procedure, and before arrival you can insert the diversion to alternate FPLN but this is not that much necessary really, not usually done

    hello Magnar. I saw the tutorial and I have to say it was very informative, as always. I have two questions to ask because I don't understand how to do it.
    1- which radial must be inserted in HDG before the final taxi. In your video I saw that you entered 322° but I don't understand why.
    2- although you have decided to fly higher in the CRUISE phase, I have seen that you entered 7000 ft. Why? Thank you.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Год назад +1

      1) 322 is the magnet4ic heading for runway 32.
      2) As stated in the SID, the initial clearance is 7,000 ft. We always set ALT SEL to the currently cleared altitude.
