Silver Air, and your left seater should be commended and thanked for allowing this to be recorded and published. It demonstrates how well trained, professional, and proficient their crew is. Bravo! And fun to watch!
Agreed!
Flight deck videos to this quality are sought after, so thank you for taking the time to make these videos!
You’re very welcome! Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
This is amazing. My 4 year old gets excited when the “pink plane” flys over our house going into KMCO. He calls it “My mommy’s plane” which she has flown from KMCO to KEWY and loved it.
Hahaha that’s brilliant!
Yoo KMCO that’s awesome, that’s my nearest airport as well
Who's here after downloading the ATR 42-600 on MSFS ?
Im here after getting into flying it in the MSFS. First thing I did was to get through detailed operation tutorial by FlywithMagnar ;)
Skibidi rizzer got the fanum taxing atr chad after his toilet taxed his fanum taxing father
@@PlanesNextToBuildings are you drunk?
@@PlanesNextToBuildingsnot funny bro
This is very eye-opening! Your commentary alongside the full CRM flow absolutely crushes anything else I've come across. Definitely looking forward to more.
Thank you so much! Looking forward to bringing you more!
Atr 72 pilot here. Nice job ! Great plane. Love the electronic CL on the atr
😊😊 thank you for every safe landing sir, is this the shortest take off commercial plane right now ?
Extreme degree of professionalism all over, special mention for the incredibly fluid, clear yet very polite communication both on FD and with ATC, Bravo !
Thank you! Michael and I work really well together 🙌🏻
@@LewDixAviation And It shows ! those very short flights come with a strong workload …
I have to admire how professional yet free flowing you and your captains dynamic is
Thanks mate!
Not bad for a part 91 flight huh. I too like to run 5 checklists 25 items each before every flight in my Cessna 150.
The list would be longer than your C150 wings lol
Great video brother! Thanks to you and Silver for giving us a peek at what it's like to fly the ATR! You're an inspiration to me bro, your fun filled videos help me stay balanced and remember to have fun while flying as well as learning! Safe flying bro!
That's amazing man. Thank you so much!
Absolutely thanks to Silver Airways! Great camera positions. Maybe see you and SNF. Cheers!
See you there!
Beautiful CRM. Both of you truly exemplify the professional pilot!
The degree of professionalism and communication is wildly impressive. Thanks very much for sharing. Safe travels.
Thank you so much! We are trained well by the company 😁
If we end up on your flight, do we get to come up to the cockpit and practice stalls and steep turns?🤣
Every time 😂
I absolutely love these videos! Ask the crew if you can do any show and tell tour around the HQ down in Ft Laud! I was gonna be there yesterday at DnJ with you guys but my wife went into what she thought was early labor and we had to rush to Celebration hospital. Nothing came of it but we were in the hospital 8 hours or something. Thanks for making this video and maybe you can have a subscriber ride along one day where we all get to purchase tickets and get to do an over night somewhere as a fun get together. Keep these coming!
Armchair pilot with question here. Empty plane, why taking off with full (Ramp) power, and not Gate (Reduced)?
Great and informative video, right on time for my MSFS ATR simflights LoL..
Thanks for all of this mate, it's such good content. I love how you get this super nice vids about your current career while still bringing us the good old CFI/CFII content with the always appreciated banter :).
This video made me really happy. It reminded me of your video when you've just been furloughed. Things seemed dark at that time. I know you're back flying for the airline for some time now, bit still. I'm really happy to see you back in those planes! Have a wonderful time flying!
Yea that was a difficult time. I was a little lost and had to deal with feelings I’d never had to experience in my professional career. But being on the other side it’s an amazing feeling. Thank you so much for your support!
Great teamwork! Real pros!
Great video! Great landing in the ATR.
Now about that Cherokee landing…. /a
From a fellow CFI, I really enjoy your content.
When you’re next in DFW, the pints are on my tab.
Haha thanks man!
Thank you for sharing this flight. It's great to observe a crew environment. I wish other carriers would do this. I think it's helpful for pilots who are new to the crew environment (like me).
Glad you enjoyed it man!
Silver needs a dropdown box for pilot preference😉Thanks for taking us along, love it!
😂
What an excellent video Lewis! Fantastic Display of CRM between you and your left seat. Has been a pleasure following your journey since your flight instructing days. Excellent briefings! You're going to make a great captain.
Now something I was curious about, I noticed during your takeoff roll you looked at Np and Torque and then confirmed T/O is set and the PNF confirmed with 'Check'. Is this typical with the ATR or Silver? We typically have the PNF confirm when both engines mx thrust (N1 in our case) has been set and the PF Confirms this with 'check'
Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to showing you more cool videos as I progress and of course do more instructing.
During the takeoff roll the captain has controls until 70 knots (if he is the non flying pilot that leg) and so the FO has those call-outs to make to check takeoff power has been set. Once we hit 70 knots and transfer controls we assume the PF & PM roles.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Flying to KLAL from CYRO (Ottawa Canada) for Sun N Fun. Two pilots in a PA28-180. Will be operating with full CRM because videos like this make it obvious as to the risk reduction that it brings. Love to see your professionalism (very different Lewdix from when you're instructing - adaptable persona, kudos).
FAA ASI should give you another 12 months of currency after one of these
hahaha
Tell me you greased a landing without telling me you greased a landing… “pull the gate”
😉 Only legends know!
@10:10 is that a standard Jepp plate? Or something specific for Silver?
Where did you get that map of florida with those lights????????????? I want one for my home state
aeroluxmaps.com tell James I sent you
Happened upon this video after the ATR became available in Microsoft Flight Simulator, and I needed reference material. It’s outstanding !!
Thank you mate!
Ah man that was so nice to watch! I’m currently at the start of my ATPL theory and I’m struggling like hell, but watching this reminds me what it’s all for!
Glad it gave you some motivation! Keep pushing 💪🏻
This is so cool! I’m going to be starting with the airlines really soon and it seems so intimidating… I hope it’s not as crazy as it appears
You get trained to a high standard to be able to operate in this type of environment! Don’t worry about it!
When I come to FL I'm definitely booking with Silver just to fly with ya! haha Great video as always!
Sweet! Thanks 🙌🏻
Amazing video, thanks for sharing. The takeoff of the ATR when at low weight is CRAZY. Already at 70 kts at the 1000 ft markers! 🤯
Climbs like a rocket too!
Wait, wait, wait was that a HIGH WING?? I thought they were bad........ Nice three-point gotta love a good crosswind landing
Cessnas are bad. High wing is the wrong position but not all high wings are bad. But Cessnas are indeed terrible.
@@LewDixAviation preach. Aerostars are almost a high wing and are great. Cessna high wing singles are awful
I love seeing Silvers ATR's at San Juan International.
There are very few videos that capture the cockpit view and a decent view out of the windows at the same time. This is one of them. You really can see that crosswind landing and how you guys deal with it. Many thanks!
Thank you! Glad you liked it 🙌🏻
Great vid, keep these coming! Your CFI vids motivated me to get my PPL last year, trying to get motivated to finish my IFR rating and who knows maybe fly commercially one day.. Thanks Silver Airways for letting him Vid!
That’s great to hear! Glad to be of service haha!
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to put it together
Ah I appreciate you. Thank you for taking the time to watch it!
Very impressive Lew, thanks for posting.
Men! This is beautiful! It has been me almost 10 years since I started this journey to becoming an airline pilot. There have been a lot of downs, but I've been claiming to the little ups through my journey. Glory be to God for where I am now! Thanks so much, men, for uploading this particular video! I see the light at the end of the tunnel ✨️ !
I’m convinced it’s an art. The resource management was like a dance between PF and PM. Great video!
Thank you! CRM is one of my favourite parts of airline flying. Teamwork is essential!
You guys made that take off seem complicated, when I fly the 747 in MSFS it seems far easier. Lol
Nice landing though. Owned it like a Boss.
Hello,
Great video.
Please confirm which type of camera you're using on your left and right plus the settings. Thank you
Ok, we all want to know what flashback memory did you have at 16:42? 😁Just a random giggle, had to be good!
Laughing at the wind rocking us haha
Dammit these vids are awesome... I love watching this channel as a student pilot! Thanks LewDix... My surname is actually Lew - Fun Fact
Great surname! Thanks!
Wow, with Asobo releasing the ATR42/72 you could probably get a lot of new subs if you did tutorials for it :p Your presentation style is great for learning! (once an instructor, always an instructor!)
I nearly had the opportunity to fly silver in a couple of weeks. I'm going from the FLL area to Tampa, but silver was only offering one flight that day and it was an an inconvenient time, as much as I wanted the chance to fly with Lewis. Plus, it wouldn't take my LEWDIX code for 10% off to give me better prices
Fantastic video @LewDixAviation.
I haven’t yet got my MCC (in fact, I’m only about 3/4 of the way through my PPL) but yourself and the Captain’s teamwork and resource management was a thing to behold.
In complete control, managing time, resource, communication and external conditions superbly the whole time.
Props to Silver Airways for allowing this recording to happen and be published online as well.
Flying to TPA- GSP next month, heard they will discontinue GSP in March
I fly your airliner’s ATRs in the magenta livery (magenta sounds better than fuschia 😂) from Southampton airport to destinations all over the UK and Europe. Well, at least in MSFS I do 😂.
What does “pull the gate”do? I see that you did that right after touchdown before you put it into reverse.
The idle gate stops you bringing the power levers below flight idle in flight. On landing when one of the landing gear absorbers is depressed, the gate opens so you can move the PL’s to ground idle. When you land very smoothly though, it sometimes doesn’t open automatically, so you have to “pull the gate” manually. It’s the ATR’s way of telling you that the landing was smooth haha
@@LewDixAviation Wow! Now every time I hear "pull the gate" on any of your part 91 content (in the ATR) I'll know.
Just came across your channel mate. Awesome video. I could see you at British Airways if/when you return to blighty :D
Welcome to my channel 🙌🏻
I actually miss flying the ATR.
Great video! Quick question. Does Silver allow you to have facial hair? Thanks in advance.
Hey Lewis, I’m an instructor at FlightSafety in Orlando. Just curious when this flight was, may have seen you takeoff?
Awesome content, top professionals in the cockpit
This is an awesome video. Thanks to Silver for making this possible. Well done all who made this possible!
Doesn’t the hydraulic system merely lock and unlock the prop break and not hold it in place? A subtle difference 🙂
Great video, you are definitely and ambassador for the company!
Thank you!
this is great. Why are ATR's flown in USA?
wouldnt it be faster on a CRJ700?
Wow! One of the best landings I've ever seen! Great stuff!👍
excellent landing with that crosswind truly gifted pilot!
Thank you so much!
This was an amazing video, thank you for the content. And to Silver for allowing this!
Appreciate it!
Love this plane. Gonna watch this later cause I want to ask you somethings 😁
What I really want to know is if the prop brake decouples the power turbine from the gearbox, allowing it to spin freely without driving the gearbox, or if the prop is decoupled from the gearbox like putting a car in neutral. Is the system that complex or is it just a hydraulic friction brake that hold the propeller in place?
I love how you nod your head while saying, “We love it!!” while looking like a complete zombie 🤣
Do you guys turn on the TRU for flights? I fly the 72 and we turn on the TRU on our before taxi flows and then switch it off on after landing flows.
Yep!
Hello I was going to try this airline for a non stop from Jax to NOLA a buddy said his wife had had very bad luck with this airline she had been stranded with cancellations. I looked the stats up and saw in the last 60 days that flight had been canceled 18 times so I had to book with United. Is this usually the case and why so many cancelled flights?
Nicely done. Takes me back - I flew the ATR24/72 for a couple of years, although not as Gucci as your one!
If you see something that you don’t like that am doing let me know am not going to be offended 😂(Good Airmanship)
Hey Lew, you should do a flight in the ATR for Microsoft Flight Simulator. I'd love to see your take on it!
If I had a simulator, I would haha
@@LewDixAviation Well there is that... :)
Sweeeet video Lew, ya'll are a smooth crew
Thanks!
Butter smoth landing perfect!!
This was so cool to watch. Your explanations of procedures, check lists, etc. was great. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great content, Lew! Awesome flying skills! One can only hope to one day fly as good as you! Thanks for sharing!
Obrigado mano! Abraço!
Very cool! I wonder howd you record the audio that clear? Ive been trying to record audio from the ATR for months now.. lol
What is the paint you have behind you? Does it show the METAR status?
Taking this flight in a week. I am so nervous, I have never been in a plane this type.
NEED MORE!!!
Just passed my commercial 2 weeks ago and now completing my MEIR. This video made me so giddy and excited for my future as a pilot, what a ridiculously cool job.
You’ll love it when you get there! Congratulations on your successes so far!
@@LewDixAviation Thanks heaps 🙌🏼
hi captain could you make a vlog for cold and dark set up . Thank you.
Reading the date on the plates was interesting, I think I'm going to incorporate that.
Very important. Need to make sure you are briefing the correct plates.
Haven't watched your videos since Covid and your transition into bigboy aviation. Still as watchable. I'm sure these videos will become very popular with MSFS releasing the ATR in April.
Thanks! Welcome back 🙌🏻
Very well made video, thanks for sharing this honest look into the flight deck
You’re welcome! Glad you like it!
Let me tell you after 30+ years in aviation form Cessna 150s to Boeings.....you will never have more fun nor be as good a pilot again as you are in the turboprops. Enjoy it!!
@@rebelroostermodeling6460 I believe it!
Does your employer accept UK CAA licences?
I've noticed that pilots in the US don't use check ✔️
That looks like a brand-new plane!
Do you ever fly in and out of Tallahassee Florida? I've noticed a pink ATR 42 landing there a couple of times. By the way, I just found your channel and really enjoy it. I went to Sun and Fun this year, and it's a shame I didn't know about your channel before.
I fly into TLH quite often and usually in an ATR 42 haha At least you found me. Welcome to the channel!
Great video, loved the commentary and got to learn a lot ❤️
That's great! Thank you for watching!
Good to know you are a great pilot
I’ll make a point of seeking out silver wings to fly next time
Maybe you will be PIC
Cheers
Hopefully! Thank you so much man!
What’s that whooping alarm going off? Good job on the crosswind landing!
Trim. When you hold the trim rocker more than 1 seconds the whooler sounds
@@LewDixAviation they should give you more than two seconds worth, that’s distracting.
One of your best Captain. Nice work, love seeing the crew interaction. Very professional and you can be my wingman anytime.
Much appreciated!
Great video. Serious level of crm too 🎉
Draw near to Jesus and he will draw near to you
wow can’t believe i use to fly that thing totally forgot it all now! haha
I really enjoyed this video. Kudos.
Could you tell me what the origin/meaning of the word "Star" in Loc Star.
Thanks.
Say "star" is referencing the little asterisk (star) when capturing an altitude or in the case you mentioned, the localizer.
Silver couldn't have a better ambassador than you Lew.
Thank you so much 🙌🏻
What a legend! Such a cool and informative video... especially for the aspiring pilots, keep up the good work man :)
Thanks mate!
Refer to US NTSB report on crash due to icing over Chicago a few years back. Don’t get into ice with it
Been in ice many a time in the ATR and it’s never been a problem. Granted, it was in Florida but still, we have procedures to follow. Everyone knows the reputation this bird has.
