    Love how the annunciator lights go dim once you hit the starter, I have never seen that in any other plane

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Год назад

      The annunciator lights might go to dim when you press the engine start button. This is caused by a drop in the voltage from the GPU. As soon as the voltage is normal, the annunciator lights will become bright again. Important avionics are protected from this drop in voltage, as they are powered by the emergency battery during engine start.

    • @Mike25654
      @Mike25654 Год назад

      @@FlywithMagnar Very interesting, maybe this is due to the fact the ATR has only one Main Battery while all comparable aircraft (Dash-8, E-Jet's, etc.) have two batteries plus an emergency battery?
      Therefore the voltage in the electrical system drops (apart from the Systems powered by the EMER BATT) while in other aircraft the essential DC busses would be powered by the battery not used for engine start at stable voltage.

  • @gary4188
    @gary4188 Год назад

    Hi Captain, thank you for all the information you give us on the ATR. As a sim pilot i have been enjoying the ATR, but the one thing ive noticed with sim version is it seams to take alot of runaway to get up to speed, im forever having tail strikes on rotation even at Gatwick. I can't see how this would be the case in the real thing. Would love your view on this. Many thanks Gary.

    • @bbgun061
      @bbgun061 6 месяцев назад

      I can't comment on the accuracy of the sim. However, a tail strike is caused by either rotating at too slow a speed, (below Vr) or rotating too quickly. It should take about 5 seconds to bring the nose up to 10 degrees.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Gary. Good news: The developers are working on the issue. The next update will have a better acceleration. This has taken longer time than anticipated. The reason is that the base model (FS 2000) has some limitations for the developers. This why Microsoft will launch FS 2024.

    How do you store a list of flight plans?

  • @eddizorzini8369
    @eddizorzini8369 Год назад

    First of all thanks for the excellent tutorials and explained in excellent and very understandable English.
    Then 2 questions if I may:
    Today I effected a planned flight using the AUTO SPD SEL speed selector (target speed indicator in the PFD in magenta) and I saw that the right speeds are automatically set for the various phases of the flight (e.g. 170 knots in climb, 240 in cruise, Vapp in final etc).
    The question is where are these speeds set (except the Vapp of course) ?
    Another question: once the flight plan has been entered, how do I change the speed in the MCDU, how can I change the speeds indicated in the SPD column ?
    Thank you
    Ciao

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Год назад

      The speeds are defined by the FMS. Once the FMS knows the weight of the aircraft, it calculates the speeds for takeoff and landing. (Fuel consumption is accounted for.) The speeds are also adjusted for icing conditions when anti-ice is selected. The cruise speed depends on the alitude and atmospherinc conditions. The FMS also takes into account any speed restrictions published in the SID and STAR.
      To only way to change the target speed, is the select manual speed. We do this when ATC instructs us to fly at a certain speed, to mention one example.

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  11 месяцев назад +2

      Less drag and therefore better rate of climb. For the same reason do many airliners use V2+10 or 15. V2 alone is only usd when there's an obstacle close to the runway end.

      Cross-talk fault does not affect the performance of both FMSs. They will switch from dual mode to independent mode. Each FMS are still functional and can be controlled with its respective MCDU. But you must remember to enter the same information into both of them.

    Hello captain, I have a question. At minute 16:48 you enter a MAC data with a value in 26.5%, I am a simulation enthusiast in MSFS2020, I use SimBrief to create a flight plan. This value is generated by SimBrief when the ATR is selected? or how can I get it?

    I'm an ATR pilot and I have a question about the POS INIT page. After completing a flight and while setting up for the next one, I check this page. However, now the INIT POS does not match the GPS position. (Or the LAST POS) It is often many degrees different, so it is not a small error. Can you please explain why this happens? I always select GPS POS for this reason, and because my airline has not updated its procedures.
    Thank you!

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  6 месяцев назад

      Hi, according to the latest revision of the FCTM, we do not check the POS INIT, NAV DATA and UNITS pages. Not even during initial setup.
      The reason is that the FMS uses many sensors (GPS, DME, VOR, etc) to compute your position. When you select GPS POS as your current position, you exclude the other sensors. That means your position is less accurate than it should have been. If there's any problem with your position, the FMS will give you a message.

    Is it possible to go out on a sunday afternoon VFR pleasure flight with the FMS turned off?

    • @FlywithMagnar
      @FlywithMagnar  Год назад

      I would keep the FMS on because it computes speeds for takeoff and landing. This requires you to insert the weight of the aircraft and weather information into the FMS. However, it is not necessary to insert a flight plan into the FMS when you fly VFR.

    I thought that most commercial aircraft have load sensors to determine the actual weigh on wheels. Does the ATR 72 lack this feature or am I misunderstanding about larger aircraft.

      @FlywithMagnar  2 года назад +1

      Hi, thank you for your question. There are no stupid questions; only stupid answers. To my knowledge, none of the today's transport aircraft have load sensors. Honeywell developed such a system in the 1960s, and it was offered for Boeing 707, Lockheed L.1011 and Boeing 747 freighters. However, the reliability of the load sensors was poor, and it was considered to be waste of money. If you cannot trust a system, you better not using it.
