The 5.0 is the only engine I would get with this vehicle, you’re a smart man

I have a 2018 Platium with the 3.5 eco. Happy other than the timing chain VCT issue every 50k miles. At 3k each time does not give me that happy smile.

Just saw this. Still having issues with the emergency brake bracket?

I have a poor man's f150 xlt 302a sport and it isn't bad for an average workhorse like me

Enjoying your channel! Great to have a Canadian (and Atlantic Canadian to boot!) perspective on things! We have a very similar set-up. 5.0 F150, 3:31 rear axle, same reese hitch, but our trailer is only 21ft. I was a little worried about the 3:31, so you've set my mind at ease somewhat! Only one summer in and just got the truck this winter - looking forward to more trips than the three we took last year. Thanks for some great tips!

Glad you are enjoying the channel! With the 6 speed transmission it spends most of it's time in 4th gear when towing, 5th running downhill. I'll drop to 3rd commonly on the hills. Not sure if you've driven the Cobequid Pass between Truro and Oxford, but there are a couple of steep and very long grades that I'll sometimes need to grab 2nd gear (particularly with a head wind) so we don't drop below 70kph. With the + / - toggles on the shifter on the center console, I almost always controlling what gear I'm in.

@@LifeonOURtime I have driven it, just not with a trailer behind us yet! Should have said similar set-up! We have the 10 speed transmission. So I'll pass along our experience when we get on the road this summer. We borrewed a truck last summer and the only issue was me being nervous.

My 2017 STX, I wish had the bench and the 6.5 foot bed, but coming up in 60,000 miles and still empresses with the tiny 2.7 Ecoboost and in summer getting 20.4 mpg on average even though it says I’m getting about 1.2 mpg more in the dash, from people I talk too that also hand calculate their mileage that’s nearly 5 mpg better than they are getting with the 5.0 in town, on the highway pretty much a wash, can get 23 if it’s flat and I stay under 70 mph. Funny I had a 67 Mustang the doors wouldn’t latch if it got cold and 40 years later and my first Ford since nothing has changed. Great review, nothing’s perfect and my wife’s little Honda CRV is great mechanically, but the most boring car I’ve ever driven, rides awful, slow and lackluster in every way. By the way the Ecoboost is quiet, but cold start it sounds decent then warms up and nothing.

Interesting info, thanks for sharing. We also have a Corolla that has been super reliable and cheap to operate, but is boring as heck! 😁 The 2.7 is an impressive engine from what I’ve researched, and sounds like you’ve been impressed too!

    Well done video.
I was wondering how much your rig weighs and what the towing capacity is on your truck.

Thank you! The trailer is 6,400lbs dry. With all our stuff and a family of 5, I estimate about 7,200lbs full loaded. Truck is rated for 9,000lb. My rule of thumb is 80% capacity, so we are right at that point.

Too many problems with a truck that only has 42,000 miles?

    • @LifeonOURtime

A few nuisance things for sure. I plan a 60,000 mile review for early springtime that will cover off a couple other things that have arisen.

The all new F150... Tow more.... Do more.... Still can't close your doors... 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 stop making the same doors for fuc... Never again.. You lost a good costumer.

I have been debating between this truck and newly out 2022 tundra, but still stay with my F150 order. I expect some recalls, minor/none sense issues from typical US trucks in future as long as not major, otherwise would be disappointed
