    I slowed from 70 to 60, and I get about 70 miles extra per tank. That's around 30 dollars a month savings.

    Great information! We drove thru eastern Canada last summer where the speed limit is significantly lower than the speed limit in the United States. Our diesel mileage (F-250 with 7.3L) went from 13-13.4 mpg to 14.6-15.2 mpg. Love your channel so I hit your red button and rang the bell. Looking forward to seeing more videos from you. :)

      I've got a 2020 F250 with the 7.3 liter V8 gssser. If you have a diesel, isn't the engine a 6.7 liter V8?

      @@GiftHorse123 Ford made a 7.3L Diesel engine until 2002. Most people still consider the 7.3L Diesel, the best diesel truck Ford ever made.

    This video got me thinking. That was a bigger difference than I would of expected. I was sold on driving slower to save fuel until you showed the time difference for a 500km trip. I think I would spend the $12-$15 to save over an hour. This was very interesting. Thanks for the video!

      That’s only if your car is only GAS BUt if your car is a hybrid, Having the ability to use the electric motors while driving slower would actually cost an even BIGGER difference. I test this out and I actually use 30% less gas while driving slower due to how hybrids work. They are designed to only use electric if you use light pedal pressure. As soon as you press hard on the pedal, hybrids force you to use the gas more regardless of road condition. Overall if you have a hybrid driving slower those actually make a significant difference

    Doing 65 or 75 is best for fuel efficiency for modern small to mid size vehicles like Sedan or suv

    Beautiful drive. I can tell you without a dought the difference between 50 and 65 mph is huge on fuel consumption. But also huge in time.

    Some great points you made, very thought provoking, makes a good argument for a minimum highway speed as well as a maximum. Thanks for sharing.

    Found you through Bluwave Odyssey. Every vehicle has a sweet spot where fuel mileage is maximized. I have run tests on our RV and just 5 MPH slower saves me 1MPG. I went from 6 MPG to 7 MPG so that is a pretty big deal. Great video!

    I got hooked on your videos and binge watched this whole afternoon. Great jobs. You speak well and clearly explain along the way. Even though most of the things I have learned from other sources but I still enjoyed refreshing and learning from you. About this fuel economy, I did some test with towing the trailer and my sense is that driving at 65 mph is a good balance. I would get about 9.5 mpg for a 3.5 L twin turbo F150 towing about 6000 lb trailer. Thank you so much for sharing. I have subscribed.

      Just a little bit more about the speed difference: at 75 mph, it generally was around 8.5 mpg or worse. At 65 mph, I could get something approaching 10 mpg, if the road conditions are good. Also, properly inflated tire pressure contributes to better fuel economy. My sense is that dropping from 65psi to something around 58 psi, you will get a hit of at least 5% fuel economy. That’s the experience I got after I installed tire pressure monitoring system and the fuel economy gain I get from general driving. The TPMS also makes me feel safer and that was the initial reason I got it

      @LifeonOURtime  2 года назад

      Interesting! The TPMS is the ideal tool.
      Have you tried slower, like 55mph?

    • @Li-ms7yv
      @Li-ms7yv 2 года назад

      I have not consistently towed at 55 mph, only a few stretches of roads, maybe 10~15 miles. My impression is around 11~12 mpg or better. Wind resistance is proportional to the square of the speed. 55 mph is not sustainable on freeway, too slow. 60 is probably the minimum that people should drive at. 65 is the sweet spot for safety, time, and mileage cost, in my opinion.

    You have the fuel and time for both trips; what is the $ per hour difference?

    • @LifeonOURtime
      @LifeonOURtime  6 месяцев назад

      A tough one to answer as value per hour can vary greatly. But it is a good question, it can even vary day to day, depending on the demands and expectations on a person on a given day

    A very good demonstration. I would say, especially on a long trip, the time saved is worth the extra cost and I agree it is best to keep your speed similar to the other vehicles on the road. Thank you for sharing.

    Are you going to do another video like this while towing? It'd be interesting to see how much mpg changes from 55 to 70 mph. Another aspect of this question is if it's cheaper to use the interstate which is higher speed but continuous, or a backroad which is slower and has towns with traffic and stoplights? Personally I'd rather take it easy and see the scenery but I'm retired so I'm rarely in a hurry. That said, I'd still be interested in the outcome of a "consumption comparison". Thanks for the videos!

      Glad you're enjoying the videos Bob! You're suggestion is a very good one, and also agree with your comments. Secondary roads seem to be an easier tow, but is there much of a fuel difference? I'll definitely put this one on my springtime list of new videos.

      In my experience, going slower on the highway is more fuel efficient

    I've got a new F250 and a new TT at 7000# dry. I plan on staying in the right lane and use cruise control at 60 mph or up to 65 mpg as conditions allow. I'm going to try not to push a schedule. One dsy, I might only travel 200 miles and I'm ok with that.

    • @LifeonOURtime
      @LifeonOURtime  3 года назад

      That will be a nice conservative combination to have. You are smart to not push a schedule. I’ve done that twice and regretted it both times.

    Jst my opinion the test may have been easier to have jst taken a 10 mile stretch of highway from exit to exit relatively flat without all the red lights. To comments otherwise about there being red lights at these exits , they all do not have red lights but rather will let you off the highway and enter the opposite direction easy pleasy

      Nothing I would try on the highway, I’d get run over! 😁 The most fuel efficient would be at the speed when the truck shifts into top gear.
