  • On more than one occasion family and friends have said - hey, we’d like to come visit, but we aren’t sure what to expect when we leave and drive back north. There is that added checkpoint, right? What’s that like? Those are verbatim questions I have received from many people who simply have yet to experience it.
While I can’t pretend to know the most inner workings and processes of border checkpoints, I can most certainly share what I have come to expect when I cross through a particular checkpoint multiple times a month. I know what I experience, and I can share what I see others experiencing. That is what I know, and what the intent of this video was to be - to provide a visual response to a question I have received time and time again living in way south Texas.
What I actually didn’t expect, and surprised me - the amount of angst commented on about how these checkpoints were overreach from law enforcement. What I thought I would receive instead were comments about how even the current efforts of Border Patrol, those on the actual border, as well as those 70 miles north of the border, were not enough. Based on the number of comments that didn’t even make it through the RUclips comment screening process (thanks for that feature, BTW RUclips), more anger was shown towards law enforcement overreach on this particular topic.
With that in mind - I’m going to change the comment parameters for this video. Have your opinions, absolutely. I don’t even really care what they are. That wasn’t the point of the video anyways. I am an educator - the video was more about educating others who have never experienced the checkpoints about what they might be able to expect.
So, go have those feelings. But, in terms of commenting to me or others about their views on this polarizing subject - yeah, you can take that somewhere else. For some, there will never bee enough border security. For others, the additional checkpoints are nothing more than law enforcement bullying citizens (yeah - that was an actual comment I received, but filled with curse words). You can take that type of negativity somewhere else. I’m not going to take the time to further police the comments for hate. Who has time to focus on hate.
