They’re doing that type of stuff to stop illegal immigrants, drugs, guns, whatever else. And you acting all suspicious didn’t help. Why not just declare your citizenship and be on your way? Americans are actually lucky that (in most of the times at least), you can exercise your right of remaining silent in checkpoints like this. Despite having similar laws regarding those matters here in Brazil, if You keep quiet in a checkpoint or traffic stop like this, the police will just beat your ass or take you to jail under some dumb excuse they pull out of their heads, and no one is going to do nothing about it.
Well, these Inland Border Patrol Agents once stole everything I owned and prevented my ability to ever work for money again based on lying on their police report that I refused to go to a Secondary Inspection Area while that was the goal of the stop.

He never left the County. Foreign citizens often agree to prove their Right to Remain in the US when asked by authorized Federal Agents, as part of admission.
He never made that type of agreement.
The Agent's citizenship question quickly parses US Citizens from immigrants and undocumented immigrants without forcing US Citizens to carry proof of Citizenship which most don't have.
I wish I was near one of these things. I'd love to get all my college peers to to drive by there and refuse to move to secondary and say if they are a citizen or not
