Dr. Mills, I have a condition in my hands called Dupuytren's contracture where my body makes too much collegen. I am assuming orthosilicic acid may not benefit me since it helps with collegen production.. Is there anything else that would increase calcium and Vit D absorption?
Ah - dupuytren’s would not be affected by silicon intake as it is a localized reaction, not as a result of too much silica or collagen building blocks 👍👍
It really depends on the person and how severe the condition is - my preference is the other strategies I discussed first (nutrition, exercise, supplements, hormone therapy) and then if not enough, meds - but every person is unique and that needs to be taken into consideration 👍

I am not a vegetarian but was recommended to take plant based calcium by the lady at the health food store . I have been taking bone strength by new chapter for a while meanwhile I am not sure if the plant based calcium is as good as regular calcium? This is my first time watching your video and I found it very informative. What do you think about plant based vs regular?
Hi ! Calcium is a mineral so in it's simplest form it should equally bioavailable, it's when it's in food form and bound to other minerals, phytonutrients, protein, etc that the availability changes. So I'm not sure as it would depend on the supplement and how the calcium is provided but it could be fine. Hope this helps!
That was very helpful, thank you. I have been doing most of what you mentioned and still deteriorated. I have now started HRT, creatine and fortibone. I am hoping that will swing the pendulum for me.Otherwise it's bisphosphonates 🥺
I just looked into it and looks pretty good except I'm not a huge fan of strontium. The reason it works is that it is similar to calcium, but then why not just use calcium? I wonder if the small differences in the two would add up to problems in the future. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I’m most appreciative. It sounded really good but then I started to have some misgivings. Grateful for your insight
I just came across this video and appreciate the helpful info! Do you recommend taking all the supplements at the same time? Also, if I take warfarin will it block the absorption of K2? I recently started taking K2 three times per week and it doesn’t seem to be affecting my INR but I don't know if I'm even absorbing it. Thank you!

@@dr.patriciamills I usually try to get calcium from food as much as possible, and supplement later in the day with calcium if I think I'll be short. Should the D3 & K2 supplements be taken with calcium or does it make much of a difference on the timing relative to one another?
Any recommendations for type of calcium? I’ve tried several and don’t tolerate them well. My dr suggested tums but then it contains other ingredients I prefer not taking. Thanks. Just found you today and will check out your videos/web site.

This is. Really good information. Can you give us baseline numbers?O we know how to start taking all of these minerals and vitamins?? Do you do any virtual calls?Or are you in the san antonio area?
Hi! I usually recommend starting one supplement at a time (doses were discussed in the video) and waiting for around 3 days to ensure the body is reacting well (or not!) to it. Then adding the next supplement. That way one can determine if there are any unwanted reaction to the supplements. I take a bioactive silica containing silica from rice, mct oil, vit d3/k2(mk-7). Also a low dose calcium (from citrate and ascorbate), 1 dose is 400 mg, sometimes I take 2. I would like to ask about the 1/2-life of some of these minerals, like D3. I dont take all my vitamins/minerals religiously as much as I am as regular as I can get. thank you .
Great question! Vitamin D is a hormone and I’m not sure what the half life is - I like to get mine tested and see if how I take it (irregularly or regularly) is enough to keep my blood levels in a good range. Hope this helps!
Personally I take my vitamin D only in the morning or noon, no need to take with calcium for if one has enough vitamin D in the body it’ll help calcium absorption at any time 👍
Thankyou so much can you recommend best times to take other supplements. I'm trying to get help suffering presently from 4th compression fracture , Blood tests didn't show any lack in vitamins but dexa scan showed severe osteoporosis . I am in so much pain .
I’ve done training in it as I was curious and looked deep into the research in it - my current take is that its good to identify and follow the treatment course for heavy metal exposures like mercury and lead but otherwise people over rely on it for other uses. Hope this helps!
Good morning, Doctor Mills. Question: Is MMST silica/silicon, the type found in the Dr. Mercola and Living Silica brands, superior to the type found in BioSil, i.e., ch-OSA?
I take multi vitamin, D3, vit c after breakfast daily, then zinc after lunch and magnesium at dinner. I just don’t want taking them all together but what is the best and most effective way to take these vitamins? I don’t take calcium supplement,I prefer taking it from food. Thank you.
If I currently take collagen peptide powder, will I still benefit from the silica? Is it okay to take both? I will add Boron to my mix. I currently take the other recommended supplements. ❤
Generally one has to take it balanced by vitamin D so depends on how much vit D one is taking which is why I like to buy the kinds that are together in the same bottle 👍

@@adriananeagu609 ah, I see! there is no firm consensus on how much to have of K2 on its own or with Vitamin D3, but one potential ratio of vitamin D3 to K2 is 1000:10, which means one should take 10 mcg of vitamin K2 for every 1000 IU (25 mcg) of vitamin D3. Dr. Mills, I have a question: Will Boron raise my cortisol level? After watching this video, I purchased the Boron and the Silica. I was already taking the other recommended supplements, so I didn't need to purchase those. I later read that Boron can raise cortisol. I struggle to keep my cortisol level down due to anxiety and OCD, so now I'm afraid to take the Boron. I also read that those with kidney issues should avoid supplementing with Boron, and I do have kidney stones. For reference, I am 55 and have been diagnosed with osteopenia. Please let me know if I should avoid supplementing with Boron. Also, could Silica be an issue for me, too? I haven't found anything worrisome about Silica online, but I would love to know what you think.
Interesting question! Research suggests boron may be helpful with kidney stones (study: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25110210/). The small increase in cortisol that was accompanied by decreases inflammation was with 10mg a day, more than 3 times that we discussed in this episode. Silica is very benign and well tolerated if not doses beyond recommended doses. Hope this helps!

@@sallen6168 Other than vitamin D3 in the morning or around noon, as far as I am aware there are no specific times that supplements need to be taken unless one is on thyroid medication for example, in which case it is helpful to review the timing with a pharmacist!

Just wondering how much calcium is recommended please. Great video. Just amazing. Thank you.
You’re welcome! The general recommendation is between 1000-1200 mg a day from food and if needed additional supplementation 👍👍
Excellent video! What are your recommendation on the element Stronthium for osteoporosis? I understand it’s widely used in Europe.
I’d rather use calcium - it’s what the body actually uses, strontium is close to but not exactly the same 👍
I take all of these supplements and walk outside everyday . I have normally thin bones . I’m short and 122. My osteoporosis hasn’t gotten worse . I’m also 61 .

Great information. Thank you. Do you recommend the bone drugs?
It really depends on the person and how severe the condition is - my preference is the other strategies I discussed first (nutrition, exercise, supplements, hormone therapy) and then if not enough, meds - but every person is unique and that needs to be taken into consideration 👍

Thank you, this was very helpful. What time of day do you think is best to take magnesium? Also, I find that vitamin K mk7 gives me terrible insomnia after taking it for a few days, any ideas on why and how to stop that reaction. And is MK4 helpful for bones instead. Thanks

Thank you so much 🙏

Have you heard of the Garden of Life Grow Bone supplements? I’ve never heard of strontium. Your thoughts on this? Thank you so much
I just looked into it and looks pretty good except I'm not a huge fan of strontium.

I recently started taking K2 three times per week and it doesn’t seem to be affecting my INR but I don't know if I'm even absorbing it. Thank you!
Hi! I take them all at once, and it’s vitamin K1 that can interfere with warfarin not K2 but it’s good to monitor blood levels just in case 👍👍
@@dr.patriciamills This is great news. I will start taking K2 daily. My recent Dexa T-score results showed L1 -3.4, L4 -3.1. Is this considered severe osteoporosis? I am worried and have stared taking supplements and doing exercises as I do not want to take medication or Prolia. Thanks you!

For example, if one is taking 5000 IU (125 mcg) of vitamin D3, it's optimal to take 50 mcg of vitamin K2. Hope this helps!
