always, always, always remove torqued bolts in a reverse pattern. The heads torque down from the center to the outside, so removal should be from the outside to the inside. This helps prevent warpage.

There's one thing you left out, though; all rod caps need to be numbered, and upon reassembly, they need to go back on their respective rods in the same orientation. The only time this isn't applicable is if the rod bores are going to be machined.

This is my 1st video of yours I've seen and I'm already hooked and going to follow your Facebook page too. My buddy's dad passed away and he had a 93' Silverado with a 350 that his mom had to sell so she gave me the family discount of $500. It's rusted to beat hell but only has about 240,000 miles and runs perfect with the exception of leaking a little oil which is obviously very common in trucks that old. I have a 2000 Silverado for my primary vehicle so I want to use the 93' as more of a project truck and thought about rebuilding the engine so I thought I'd look up a video on how to do it since the only engine I've ever rebuilt was a lawnmower engine in 12th grade shop class. And I came across this video and like the way you put it together and explained everything. All I really need is the engine stand and a couple of those pullers. I can rent the hoist from this place down the block. I can't wait to dive deep into your other videos. Keep up the good work.

My wife worked in the Oldsmobile engine plant, I worked in the attached next building. She operated the machine that honed the bolt holes (11:40) to a high tolerance. All of the force of the gasoline explosion which propels the automobile forward runs through those bolts, and there must be no slop, or the wriggling of the bolts within those holes will destroy the engine way before it should wear out.

Hey Chris , Can I give you a little tip for what it is worth, When I strip an engine I usually mark the Rod Caps & Mains 1 through 8 etc, set them aside numbered so they are all clear of the crank. Then you can lift the crank clear and punch all the Rods and pistons clear with a soft mallet rather than trying to poke each Piston clear in turn with the crank in place.
After this loose reassemble the rods etc after prior to cold or hot acid cleaning treatment and your ready for inspection :) .

#2 That is unless the rods are to be replaced with new ones. I know the mains were honed but I've seen some that were put back in mixed positions were a lot of metal had to be removed to realign them or they had to be replaced. I've used number stamps to mark them, mains 1 - 5. The rods marked #1 piston rod 1 & cap 1 the same for the rest in position order. Without doing that your in for trouble later on. Good videos & tips though. I'm getting ready to restore my 68 Camaro & the updates help.

Scary that the engine was made on March 25th. That's my birthday and I'm getting a 350 lmao

I have a 1970's car with this engine and was used for a race car in The 90's. haven't touched in years. Should I rebuild and use it or rebuild and sell?

I have a 80 corvette. Which is better? To rebuild the engine or to buy a new turnkey crate engine?
    I need a valve job.

Can someone help me understand how you are able to reuse a block after machining it? How can the pistons operate correctly if the cylinders are bigger than before?
    Thanks

The pistons have to be replaced with larger ones. I They're readily available in standard overbore sizes. Your machinist will tell you what size you'll need.

Should have emphasized numbering and keeping location. also to check for a ridge on the cylinders that would need to be removed before the piston.

Hello Motorz, I am trying to rebuild an engine (2.2 ecotec) from a 2006 HHR, but I am an apprentice, and this is the first time I ever do one of these; I need all the help I can get (bolt torque table, clearance specs on bearings (rods and crankshaft (both cut to .010)); overall, my main trouble is with the Lower Crankcase; I wish I could see a video of someone assembling this specific part, because I think it does not use a gasket, instead, it uses only silicone, and I got a tube from the GMC dealer; someone told me it has to be the same type to use, but I just don’t know how much to apply; I believe I have to be very careful with this particular process, because if I apply too much, the excess can drip and clog the internal oil ducts, but if I apply too little, I could get a leak.
I looked for videos in youtube and I haven’t found one that shows anyone assembling this part (LC) on this particular engine, as if no one ever had to rebuild one, except for the timing chain (nothing on pistons, or crankshaft). There are a lot of videos on many other models, but not this; it’s a very peculiar machine.
I’ve also asked for help around my area, from people that I thought could help, but no one has given me much orientation.
I will appreciate what help I could get from you, especially on the assembly of the Lower Crankcase (sealing and torquing). Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that I need help on the installation of the pistons (positioning of the rings and position of the pistons as well; very important.
Thank you in advance; I look forward.
