- After our Chevy small-block 283 disassembled itself, we couldn't help but give it a full engine rebuild. This iconic V-8 engine came out of 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible 25 years ago and has sat untouched ever since, but now it's getting the rebuild it deserves.

I cannot even begin to imagine how long it takes to get these time lapse shots done. Amazing work!
Can you say overtime.
There was a video where he said it takes something like 8 times as much time as it usually would. It’s insane.
Did you notice on a few shows the camera rig on the conveyor belt? BET IT COST MORE THAN MY RIDE!
A long time... but well worth it, we think!
B Roll stop motions take an incredible amount of time. You can work an entire day just for 10 seconds of video. NUTS!
The editing.. the music... Hagerty is on another level of editing.
(cant even think how long it took to do the screw/bolts shots... but worth it...)
legit i opened this video to have something in the background, and i couldnt look away for the 8 minutes lol
you said it !! absolute greatness, Thanks guys!!
Thanks Nick! The disassembly shots took... a while! But we thought it was worth it, too!
Sir please 🙏 big fan of your work..can you please 🙏 make one video shoot and edit tutorial please 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 please 🙏
@@Hagerty I would imagine a few bottles of some nice cold beer, too. 😆
Where do you get these musics on your time lapse videos 🔥
The guy in charge of editing the video deserves a raise
Your editing crew needs a GIGANTIC raise. I don't care how much they are already making..... they need/deserve more!!! 🤣🤣😂😂😊
When I was a teenager I helped my dad rebuild the 350 for our ‘67 Camaro. I’ve watched the old Smallblock rebuild countless times, and it’s so cool to see another one in the current redline rebuild editing style!
The most amazing thing about this whole video is how all the exhaust manifold bolts came out without even one breaking.
Pretty impressive. I’m going about it all wrong. They are a whole lot faster than I am and telekinetic.
Whoever did the filming on this needs a raise asap
Just. Unbelievable. Not only the level of cleanup, machine work, restoration, paint, assembly, and attention to detail, but to take the time to do what amounts to "claymation" video on the disassembly was nothing short of astounding. Next-level talent in so many areas...
Another timeless piece of editing goodness! I love the macro lens shots of inside the engine where the camshaft goes. Never knew how roughly casted those engines were back then.
She purrs like a kitten like Davin says. Those restrictive cast iron manifolds really makes the engine quiet. A set of long tube headers and a beefy cam would make this engine sound niiiice. But I understand, this rebuild was meant for a stock cruiser. The engine was rebuilt better and more balanced thanks to the guys at Apex Competition Engine for balancing the crankshaft.
A shame to put that carb and manifolds back on it imo.
@@karenthomson9749 I know, but it was relatively stock build as Davin mentioned before. He even mentioned before the block got painted, that black painted blocks are race engines. Orange painted blocks are stock lol
Well... when I saw the roller tappet brackets being installed I scratched my head a little. When they installed the OEM manifold and two barrel carb it becomes clear that this isn't a fire breather but an engine made to live on pump gas on the street.
So cool ! Cannot thank the people who produced this enough !!!
As a shop owner I know the amount of work it takes to rebuild a motor, and all that stop motion photography takes a lot of time and talent as well, if anybody is looking to have an engine remade ? these are the guys that you would trust to do it. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video, this is quality viewing that any small child could sit in front of and enjoy and possibly learn something. There needs to be more videos like this. Good job guys !!
The old guy working the boring machine is my favorite.
The most impressive thing of this stop motion is the rotation of the camera and how smooth it rolls. Brilliant work
You see the rig they use in some of the shop diary videos - it's a motorized slide rail that slowly moves while the time-lapse is taken. They must have added a motorized turntable for some of these shots.
The corkscrew motion is probably done in the video editing.
That video is a cinema masterpiece. But... that engine is about 66 years old. The oil fill in the intake and the vapor can in the lifter valley indicates it vintage. The exhaust manifolds are 70’s items. Ram horn manifolds would be correct to that motor. But I still loved it.
It came out of a 66 Chevelle, that'd make it 58yrs old.... 🤦
I’m betting that years 50 from now we won’t be as excited watching someone rebuild electric drive motors…but hey, I could be wrong. An amazing video; watched every second of it.
When the timelapse is more impressive than the rebuild itself 💥💥💥💥💥
Have to say this is without a doubt the best time lapse engine rebuild video I've ever seen. The photography was awesome and I can only imagine how much time you put into it. Very entertaining, and the associated rebuild videos are also very informative/helpful. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Unessacera bullsg
The stop motion in this video is PHENOMENAL! Congratulations to whoever did that work. This was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for producing this video!
No matter how many you guys make...I watch a thousand of these ....
Watching this awesome video makes me think that my son should see it. He just got a '64 Chevy Impala project car. No engine but the body appears to be in fairly decent shape. I will forward this video to him. Nice work, gentlemen!
Incredible editing here! Love the content on a sbc engine!
I watched all the individual episodes where this engine was being worked on, but it is still always fun to watch the time-lapse and see it actually fire up and run at the end.
They did a fantastic job on the 283 Chevy. Bringing it back to life.
So awesome on sooooo many levels!
Is there a reward for the best Timelapse in the history of the universe? I hope there is, because this one definitely deserves it! I love it 😍 Great job guys!
Best time lapse ever! Kudos to Davin and the team
This absolutely amazing to watch and makes me appreciate the work that my local mechanics put in when they helped me with rebuilding my engine
My head almost exploded with happiness as I watched this. So stunning on multiple levels. Machine work that is an art in itself, painting, filming, still framing, editing. This is so wonderful. Thank you for being awesome.
The team that makes these time-lapses episodes is incredible! I've done stop-frame animation before, so I know how time-consuming and difficult it can be. Kudos on some fantastic work! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
The editing and cinematography of these videos is off the charts. Especially loved the camera following the cam bearing installation. Well done.
The sheer amount of production time this must have took is incredible. Had a great time watching this!
The stop motion disassembly is remarkable, good job.
You Guys just never stop getting better in your work, from Davin to all the guys who make the shots, filming, editing, everything. You're always above expectations! And look how that perfect balanced engine Revs dude! Love you guys from Hagerty, keep doing this great work
Another awesome installment of Redline Rebuild!
I love these timelapse rebuild videos so much. Keep up the great work!
I love this so very much! The music, the time lapse, and machining, contact check, precision tools usage. This was amazing!
The amount of patience needed to stop motion all this is incredible!
Isso é muito satisfatório, ver dias de trabalho resumido em 8 minutos, thank you 👍🇧🇷
One of the best RUclips videos I've ever seen. Great editing, camera work, no cussing,
spot on timing re: when and when not talk. Outstanding in every sense. *God bless.*
Mind blasting editing. My goodness the hours that must take! Amazing build boys!
The editing on these videos is just unreal! So much time and patience from the camera man to the editor to the mechanics! Keep up the awesome works guys and gals! 🇺🇸
I wish I could train my engine to disassemble and reassemble itself like that!!!
I’d just sit in my favorite chair in the shop with an ice cold beer and just watch!!!
Wow! What a great video. Love the animation. Keep 'em coming
This is all around quality. Well done on so many levels.
Definitely my favorite channel. Another outstanding job on this project. Congrats to all involved.
I love that with all of the modern innovation and specialized tools we have, the best choice for installing pistons is still the back end of a deadblow mallet. I watched my dad do it countless times as a kid, and I can still hear the noise it makes.
I am very happy to see how the editor works in presenting the videos and how they are combined well by the workers
Brilliant editing and what a specialist in engines you are sublime!
Amazing job and video production. I can't imagine the amount of work it required to make this video and well done! I love these rebuilds and like the fact that a roller camshaft and roller rockers were used, which only makes sense to upgrade to better technology to insure longevity, when you can. Beautifully detailed engine and awesome craftsmanship!
That is a thing of beauty my friend... Artistry and iron, I grew up loving these old motors... When you do them all up right they're like Little gemstones, and I must say you fellas go above and beyond the call of duty.
Boss, I watched almost everything you broadcast and you know, friend, there was a special blessing after seeing this, I was able to dismantle a machine and of course the machine I assembled came to life.
This is a work of art
Wow! I have not seen claymation work this great since I saw the movie "The Seven Voyages of Sinbad" back in the mid sixties. Who has that much time and patience to make a video like this? Where is the academy award for this animation? Come on, Academy, get with the program!
as an audiovisual pro and mechanic enthusiast, working with you guys is a dream job! thanks for sharing, as usual!
Stop motion videos like this are well worth the hundred plus hours put into it. Awesome job.👍
Your cinematography skills are incredible. You guys have stepped up your game in every video and I can only imagine the time and effort that goes into this level of video. Could you ever do a behind the scenes on how you set up shots?
Very Cool Editing!
She's purring again...
Growing up in the country, my Dad and I repaired and rebuilt many engines and transmissions. In The Barn!
He was a mechanic by trade, gasoline and diesel engines.
Much of what I learned from him carries on today.
Love these old Chevy engines.
!!!THAT!!! Was, without a doubt, the coolest, thing I have ever seen on RUclips! AMAZING!!
That was incredible, thank you for sharing!
Looks cool. Plus I appreciate everything that goes into making stop motion work. Great stuff!
Man the amount of work that went into this video. Holy smokes. Good for you guys. And the fact that maybe I missed one but not a single broken bolt that I saw.. unbelievable
My first car was a '67 Impala Sport Coupe with a 283, "Powerslide". Except for the "ram's horn" exhaust manifolds that was the engine that defined my youth. Other than the curious need to rebuild that 2bb Rochester carb and the nylon timing gear that left me stranded with my high school girlfriend on a deserted side road, it was an excellent mill. Thank you for not giving in to the "stock build" trolls and allowing me to see this old lump brought back to it's original form .... 2bb carb and all. Excellent!!
These are the coolest videos ever.!! I can’t imagine how much longer it takes to shoot these videos like you do but man is it awesome.
This was so beautiful to watch and see the hard work put in and dedication. Professional and top quality 👍
I usually have to speed restoration videos up to get them to even seem like real time. Here's a video I have to slow down to catch it all. Bravo! Thank you!
My all-time favorites, Davin and the time-lapse rebuilds! A priceless work of art.
Incredible video editing, a pleasure to watch. That should be a very sweet running engine. 👍
Love the time-lapse and stop animation. 😁👍
This video is way beyond next level infotainment. Lighting, camera, editing, process, editing, soundtrack, all exceptional. You've set the new bar. Thanks from Colorado.
Your attention to detail is so on point with your engine builds absolutely fascinating to watch!
Love those real small blocks. I’d love to get my hands on a 327 from the mid-60s that hasn’t had the crank journals enlarged.
After looking for a good while, I found a 1/62 SB 327 250hp. Never bored or apart. Pulled the heads, zero ridge. They are getting harder to find.
Engenuity South bay Los Any
I can't imagine how in the world they did this without bumping the camera out of position halfway through every shot.
By far some of the best time-lapse footage I've ever seen fantastic job!
Building an engine is a complicated process and incredible....the camera work on this was beyond amazing! Excellent work from both perspectives.
This guy is the best! I love this channel
Love these old engines getting new life! It's inspired my some to get an old Ford with an inline 6(which is in need of a rebuild) Love to see an 300 L6 get the Hagerty treatment! Hint hint😉
I'm from Brazil and I love your videos with old engine rebuilds, even more today that engines are disposable. Congratulations for your work
Sweet! My first vehicle was a 1969 Chevy Blazer 350 small block. It had a 3 speed transmission with a L for Low in the first gear position. Low range Low gear hand a fifty two to one gear reduction. Thanks for the video. The presentation was great.
Nicely done gentlemen !! They were always a sweet engine and good to see one come back to factory condition (or better )
Thanks so much for all you do Davin and crew
This is when America built everything in house.
My heart just skipped a beat, I wish Chevrolet still made motors like this, that finished work is a thing of pure beauty.
OmG!!! I cant beleive I watched this... but then!!!
Its BRILLANT! to all who were involved and developed this video. AWESOME JOB!
i felt like a kid of sorts watching Saturday cartoons with the stop animation. Remarkable discipline and so much detail that was put in, wow. Great Saturday coffee watch.
This must have taken forever to make! Wow!!
👏 👏 👏
Eye candy time-lapse scenes 😍
Great work all involved!
What a transformation..
😲
I was so amazed by the video editing quality I wasn't even paying attention to the actual rebuild. crazy
The ONLY dissatisfying issue about this whole complete time lapse video is the 2 forced RUclips commercials that interrupted such cool, smooth perfection.
The stopframe animation parts were awesome. So was the part where they're putting in the cam bearings and it shows it from inside. These guys have some great editors.
This is one of the coolest video teardowns Ive ever seen. The slow motion teardown was awesome. Everything was awesome. Good job 2 u all and thanks.
This may be the most esthetically pleasing video I’ve ever seen!!!
Truly a master in his castle. And the pep talk at the end was fire because my cruiser is out in the shop😂😂🤣🤣
Incredible! The stop motion scenes themselves would haven taken an incredible amount of time. You could have built 3 engines during this same amount of film production time. Bravo!
This is the first time that I have seen an engine take itself apart!!! AMAZING!
I remember doing this a few times about 34 years ago. 73 cougar 351 cj with factory hype everything 4 bolt main dual timing chain etc. and 76 Camaro 350. Beef up both a little extra. My cougar as heavy it was used to eat corvettes mustangs and much more for breakfast. I even tore my Camaro a new one with that cougar. Great video you brought back memories ❤
Great video and I can imagine the actual work on the engine as I'm a retired motorcycle technician and machinist and I've done the same thing only in a smaller scale, but when it came to the timelapse of the engine being disassembled it must have been painstaking and that in itself was awesome.
Stop motion is the best I've ever seen!!!!!!
And I grew up with Gumby, King Kong & all the old dinosaur flicks!
Outstanding! Over the top!
Cheers!
I've never watched your videos before but the few seconds I catch if the teardown are some of the most well shot and elaborate ive seen in some time. Massive well done
Съёмка и монтаж просто супер, как и сам реставрация двигателя, браво.
I always love to watch your rebuild, state of art works. Highly respect to you folks 🫡
I once did a stop motion project in high school and it makes me realize just how much time would’ve went into this video. Mad respects
Outstanding work! From the moment you click on PLAY, you won't be able to stop watching until the end. Very engaging and well done job, congratulations!
