Fret sprout is such an easy fix with graduated roughness foam nail files and buffers from the beauty supply or drugstore. One rougher file for real removal, then one of those 4 way files with a buffer does it all. Tape off the fingerboard painter’s tape first. Go in at an angle. You can use the buffer on the top & sides frets too to make them shine!
I just got one from Sweet Water music about a week ago. The frets were either sanded back, or Recording King got the message. The sound is really great for the price I agree. The pick up is great. It sounds really nice. The only thing that I'm concerned about is the tuners. I fear that they'll break. So far so good though. The strings are currently D'addarios. Because I like the resonator for soloing at open jams, I want to put on some Elixer medium gauge to get an even brighter/louder sound. I'm cocerned, however that it will put too much tension on the tuners. Do you think it's a good Idea, to change them to Elixers or should I leave well enough alone?
Yes one of the tuners on mine went!! I was just not happy with mine whole guitar (Sound was great) in the end I stripped it down and basically re-built it replacing with new tuners. I have now sold it. I would think the current tuners you have on it would be OK, if you are unsure than I would replace the tuners for better one, may be worth it.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.. Do you think that if I don't replace the tuners until one breaks that Elixers would add more tension than the D'addarios? My instinct is yes, but I value your knowledge.
I've bought 5 Recording King guitars and returned 3 of them for this very reason, the fretwork is unbelievable, the two i have kept are fantastic, it's the Recording King factory btw Marc not Andertons fault, they just keep them in a warehouse same as the other big shops, the two that were good came from Bax the 3 that were bad and returned from Thomman.
Caught off guard I spotted the dirty 30 back behind expensive guitars , I picked it up and instantly said my God this is "Tobacco Road" in the late 30s !.. instantly I felt like I was a kid in the early 70s picking up my first Telecaster . For the reasonable price I bought one on the spot and I will have it set up and refined a bit because I'm going to keep it !
Thanks for the honest review. Good info to know. For myself, I HATE acoustics guitars with built in mics or pickups. I do own 3 Nationals, and a Gretsch dobro style resonator, but I still keep my eye out for others.
Sounds really good Marc once you sort the frets out l am sure you love it(jealous actually can't play six string),when are the T-shirts available,😀👍🤠🇦🇺
Thanks for the warning. I'm glad you explained the problem about the frets. I would have regretted my purchase, had I made it

mine had exactly the same problem with the frets and a number of issues ... decided to keep it but is decidedly a work in progress
Yes bit of a pain, but I have sorted mine now and is much better

Nice review. Looks decent except those frets...but maybe not too bad since it's fixable.
I bought a Gretch Bobtail Steel and it’s incredible…
Fret sprout takes about 5 minutes to fix.
Sounds good! That should be fun!
