I have the Minnie Bucker in matte black. The secret to getting great tone out of it is to tune it down a whole step from standard. I record it through a mic- I plug it into a line 6 Pod Go for live stuff. It’s easy to get some pretty cool tones either way
THANK you for an honest overview on this guitar, and for the straight-ahead demo of the humbucker. All other videos play it through effects, which makes their reviews moot. This video, however, is just what I was looking for! Thanks again. Cheers.
You betcha! Thank you for the kind words. I try to keep it as real as possible. The humbucker is cool, but like I said in the video, it kind of takes away the resonator sound. Still a fun instrument, though!
@@JohnBudnikBand Yeah, the pickup kind of adds to the look, IMO, but if I want my resonator guitar amplified, I'll want to hear resonator. If I'm looking to use a humbucker, I'll put it on a solid body electric with closer action. Your video has been a HUGE help.
Wow. Great tone from that little Blackstar. I may have to get one of those to go with my Minnie Bucker. Just got the sunburst. I think the key to getting a great amplifies reso sound is to both mic the resonator and the amp.
Great job on this review! You covered all the major aspects of the guitar and you have a nice low key not condescending way about you so much appreciated. I’d love to get one but most that I’ve seen are above my pay grade. Also, I’d love to try using a slide when I get the guts to try it.
Thank you for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve noticed too that RK has a lineup of spendy resonators well over the $500 mark. Check out the swamp dog, though. Looks cool and on the cheaper side. Take the plunge on that slide!!
I would say whatever you’re comfortable with for playability. For acoustics and this guitar, I like my strings to have a little more stiffness than what I use on my electric. I think I’ve got 12s on this resonator.
@@JohnBudnikBand thanks for getting back to me. I have a new set of Martin Eric Clapton 12.5-55 strings I was thinking of using on it. I think it comes with D’Addario 12 lights. Do you think the 12.5’s would be ok? I know these are a bit unusual as they are a hybrid between the traditional light and medium. I wouldn’t want to harm the neck or bridge. I appreciate and value your opinion. Thanks
I have a reso guitar, I don't play slide so don't need heavier strings or raised action and I'm very happy using Martin Retro monel strings, currently using an 11 set but may move to a 12 set as I play a lot on open G or open D.
When you bash your head and say "wah", that's the Wabash. Think of Wabash Cannonball. At least we in the Missouri area don't say bahsh...but I guess I'm a "butt head " Party on, Garth

Interesting! I’ll have to give that a shot!
2:45 I really want one!!!!! That’s all I need for amplification! 😊
Don’t wait! Life is short.
@@JohnBudnikBand I know! I’m 70. I have to wait because there was some IT crash and my bank was targeted. A few days? Thanks!
Cheers! 🍻
Wabash Blue!
It’s a nice color!

Love that little Blackstar. It's pretty fun!
Great run-down. Interesting to hear the individual tonalities of those several slides.
They all got their own tone!

That's the most loveliest blue resonator guitar ever, I'm putting this on my wish list 💙🎸💙🎸💙
Good choice! Do it!
Great sound 🎉🎉
Thank you 😋

Hey John, love your review! What strings do you think would be best on this?

@@Doowopsid Interesting. I've never used a set like that before. Nonetheless, I think you're fine using them on this resonator.

That thing sounds really good! Any plans to do some writing/recording with it?
You betcha!

LOL. I have to make it entertaining.
