- Here at Peach we have a great range of budget resonators. If you're looking to dip your toes in the water of slide playing, or fancy some tonal variation from a standard acoustic, we have just the thing!
In this video, Joel takes us through 4 models we have in store, highlighting the differences between spider and biscuit bridges as well as wooden and metal bodies.
If you’re a resonator fan, you’re going to want to watch this!

AWESOME 👍 😊 Thank you!!!
Thank you
Awesome
Which was your favourite?
It is SO VERY RARE to come across a gear video where the demo dude can actually play. I was pleasantly surprised, as Joel is just ripping. Thanks for sharing this video.
Gretsch metal all the way. Your playing is Fantastic. Thanks for the demo. 👏👏🎸👏👏
Have a dobro hound dog, other three are just as sweet sounding. This guy has just shown it’s not an expensive guitar that makes you better but your practice and skills. Great review
Coyote red skies is my name it's demonstration was pretty cool to listen to the different sounds of these resonator over just for fun onstage as well as I appreciate your sharing the sound of these guitars sunhouse is a good example of a blues resonating all steel guitar 🎸 thank you for sharing
I'm totally undecided, because of the way they were being played I loved all of them!
Love your work and style... Great showcase of these guitars along with some fine, FINE playing. Big up
Both of the Gretschs were both head shoulder better than the others. But the Gretsch wood body sounds the sweetest to me.
Absolute,y amazing! Great job showcasing these beautiful instruments. Just want to go south and soak it up.
Gretsch are making some amazing sounding resonators for the price point. I bought. One a couple of years ago and it plays and sounds better than most resonators twice the price. One of my favourite guitars.
So soulful... Love your playing.
Was expecting the run of the mill, punt your guitars vid, but man was I wrong, thanks you've made me fall in love pall over again with Dobro's again. Mine is now coming of the rack. 5*
I love it! ❤️ I agree sweet sounds and AWESOME guitars. Must share of course...
Loved the slide playing sir🎸
Very nicely played Sir and thank you for staying away from the usual cliched pieces people usually play when they pick up a resonator! For me the Gold Tone stood out a mile---the loudest and fullest sounding. Then I checked out the prices and can see why. Of the others I thought the Alligator had a very decent sound.
Wow, you made them all sound great!
This a good comparative review. I first bought a Luna;it was very well built, but was designed mostly for amplification. So, I exchanged it for the "acoustic only" Gretsch "Honey-Dipper." That did the trick for me. I build acoustics, electrics, do repair and custom set-ups to thousandths of an inch. My other acoustic is a vintage Westerly Guild D 40. That is my second of that model. My first was a 3 digit serial numbered from Brooklyn, the truly first Guild luthierie shop before Newark. I learned to build while in law school and I sold that extra-vintage D 40 to buy the material for a full-on custom acoustic. Just the rosewood had been dried over 60 years. It was a spectacular OM size guitar, loaded with pearl and abalone, and my favorite fretboard wood, ebony. Sold for tuition for my daughter, but no bitterness ; she graduated cum laude as a certified Special Needs teacher, later got her Master's in same, and is now the Special Needs curriculum director for a whole nearby district, having also served as a principal for a special needs school.
Oh, I'm so happy for you.
So what’s your point?
Some really fine playing there. Thank you.
Great playing. Now I want one.
Great demo... really got a sense for the different characteristics of each instrument, as well as how you naturally reacted to each of them and how they sounded, played, etc. Very nice job. THANK YOU! 🤙🏼🎶😎
Great slide work! Thanks 🙏
Excellent Video. I bought the Gretsch Bobtail and I love it. Jam On.
Hey captain. Jus wanted to let you know thats some serious sliding techniques your using.. honestly thats probably some of the best blues slide I've heard in a looooooonnngggg time!!
You're too kind!
- Joel
came for the reso playing, was not disappointed :D
Never mind the guitars, your playing is superb. Wow that was fun to listen too!
Fantastic playing!
Got a old finder drobro and it sounds so nice like it was new but I had it for a long time now keep up the good fight for the slide guitar love the vids guy
Great demo!
Such A great demo great playing man wow. I own the Gretsch G9221 and love the guitar. I am interested in a wooden body next. Thx for a great demo
I would kill for a guitar as beautiful as that last one.
Such soulful sounding Guitars, they speak.Like acoustic but with a bigger personality and tone
Great playing man. Enjoyed it.
The gold tone was my favorite, then the Gretch bobtail was a close second, great playing btw
They all sounded great. I have the Hound Dog and the Bobtail.
Love the sound of the Metal Gretsch, good ol National Steel sound-- Peach Guitars - We related ? Family Discount ?
take me to the station! And put me on a train! I got no expectations! To pass through here again! Rolling Stones!
Wicked sounds man,
Thanks for the video! Kudos to the player!
Great Playing!
I would have liked... all playing the same tune to compare.Great skills that being said.
Nice and skilled playing.
That Gold Tone Paul Beard sounds the best to my ears. By far the warmest.
I absolutely agree! That paul beard one sounds amazing
Over £1000!! Hardly hardly on a budget!! 😱😱😱
EXCELLENT VIDEO
Love the wooden Gretsch!
Really?
I felt it nipping my eardrums.
I did not like the sound of it at all. The bobtail however was another story altogether. Sounded 100× better to me.
I wonder what you heard that I couldn't. This is why I love guitars though. People hear completely other things from one another.
I do as well! I actually like the "Boxcar" model that Gretsch makes a little more than the one in this video, which sounds a tad thin to me probably due to the use of the biscuit cone rather than the spider in the "Boxcar", but it's all about personal preference. Both I think sound a little better and are better constructed than the Epiphone-made Dobro "Hound Dog", which costs more only due to the brand name I think. Still a good reso guitar though!
Some great playing my man. Think that hound dogs on your tail
I love my Gretsch Historic Series Resonator
I´ve just subscribed ´cause of your playing skills. Thanks man
Nice comparison and great playing! I bought a Gretsch Alligator about 18 months ago and I am very happy with it. I think the value for money and build quality outweighed others I tried, such as the Dobro. That could be just luck.
It has a warmer tone than the recording would suggest 😃. Thanks for the vid!
The alligator biscuit is a beautiful guitar.
Excellent !
I've listened to this three times just to enjoy the pickin
damn that stones song always got me hooked
Great demo of spider vs. biscuit. I'm a blues player but I'm leaning toward the spider bridge. However, I think Joel could hook a broomstick to a fry pan, string it up and make it sound good. Does anyone know what tuning he uses?
DAMNED good demo Guitarist you got there
I prefer the more twangy tone of the metal body Gretsch. BTW, great playing.
Killer playing !!!!!!!
This guy's playing is beautiful, 4:05 goosebumps!
Yeah man shit
With those skills i would be out in nature all summer... camping and showing off my slide skills to everybody.
Practice
Terrific playing and comparison!Just wondering: are any of these models available in lefty versions? Thanks!
Love the sound if the Gretsch 4. It was much clearer
Recently picked up slide play, and I’ve been itching for a resonator but haven’t been able to find one.
Great video, love the sound of that gold tone! What tuning do you have that in?
Sick tunes!
I haven’t watched the entire video yet but I’ve got no expectations
Which brand do you recommend for the Takamine DB 180 E Electric resonator? Thank you.
Fantastic playing! Could you please tell us the song names? Especially the tune you play on the 9221 Gretsch. Thanks so much.
Dude can play!
What tuning are you using for the Gretch 9240 wood? I am an amateur guitarist, just wondering
Approved!
by the way youre awesome buddy.. you should do a lesson series!
Open D tuning for the first guitar showcase?
Great playin')
You should try a gretsch boxcar. Thay have a round neck spider comb
@peachguitars Do you sell left handed resonator guitars?
great playing, which do you prefer?
for that Intro "no expactations"? i woud like to have the TAB´s please.
great playing!
Hey my name is Dennis Fain..what type resonators stings on the r#sonator guitars have and .Also do you have the beginner guitars resoonator guitars books to Belgian with my dobro resonator he has some Ilap too play or I can play with a strap in front me
were you tuned in open G for all of the guitars?
That G9221 sounds like Mississippi. Made me order one lol
What’s the tune he plays at 5:11?
05:06 what is the tuning of that epiphone? (or is there tabs I can find somewhere for this? Love the groove!)
Wish I could play like this dude!
Tune to open D or open E tuning and PRACTICE ! In 6 months time you ll be amazed at what you ve learned + what you can do. Best Wishes
Very few guys will ever be this good, but you can definitely get better by putting in a lot of practice.
What’s the tuning you have on the guitars?
Does anyone know what tuning this is?
Captain can you demo some wood body and steel body tricone resonators please. You are excellent, best demo's on You Tube that's for sure!
Check out our National Resophonic Guitars overview for some Tricone action: ruclips.net/video/coCD3gJ2Qck/видео.html
Hi everybody! I will be brief!
Whats the tune at minute 5.05? Thank you!
Anyone else visit this video from time to time just to hear this guy play?
Does anyone know the songs he plays in this video??
What is the usual tuning scale?
The Paul Beard Gold Tone knocks all the others out. The best sounding by far. All the others lacked the warmth and "juiciness" of the Paul Beard.
Great playing, how about some tutorials? Might buy a guitar then :)
The Gretch Alligator has probably the better Tone but the Bobtail is crisp and clear, you don't say if you have any preference? Which has the best playability? Action ?
I have the Epiphone Houndog strung with 13s and tuned to Open G. Sounds great.
Are the 13s any more harder to fret than the 12s
@@sethwilson970 I haven't found them so and I have quite small hands.
@@mikec3777 ah ok, I kinda want bigger strings for slide because the 12s are too light but I like how easy it is to play regularly in standerd tune, I’ll probably just give the 13s a shot
with resonators being so perfect with slide, i never understood why you dont see more with cut away bodies.... anyone??
5:04 what song is that?
What tuning is he in ?
@peachguitars :) Which tuning do you have when playing the yellow dobro (banjo sound)?
Open A!
- Joel
Happy with my Gretsch G3170 but that Gold Tone, I wouldn't say no thanks.
If I'm not mistaken, the still shot of the guitar while the Epiphone was being played was actually a National, with its signature 3 holes. Still very enjoyable.
Jonathan Ames sorry but it's the deluxe model with Fishmans resonator pickup.
The first Song is an unbelieveable stones classic no expactations
