thank you, bought a new to-us car from a dealer and it started to make this noise after one week of owning it, I am convinced they don't want to fix it. At least I can take it somewhere else to have it looked at.

When I was applying the brakes to my 2008 Lexus IS 250, I heard a squeak sometimes popping like noise when breaking at a stop sign or stoplight. Kind of similar to the sound in this video. Sway bar, I’m glad it’s not some $1000 fix and it’s super easy to change this out. I was in and out of the shop somewhat fast and now the car is smooth and serene like a Lexus again .
Hu, Inhave a Lexus I300h (it s oike th IS250), did you change your sway bar and like, because I have the same noise when I turning left slowly. Does it that work, maybe be give a smoother ride too.
Helpful Scott, I but 2 new links and change them and it started making soooo much noise I guess the old once worked better than the new once I bought from Amazon.

You helped me out big time. Just bought a 2013 Acura TL w/ Advanced package . Beautiful car. How ever I heard a really soft crackle sound when I first test drove it. After a minute, nothing. Quiet as a kitten. So I bought it. Cars front in been crakling and popping more and more by the day. Two since I bought it. I'm more than convinced they new of it because the driver side wheel well plastic cover was missing and the salesman said it was on order and I could pick it up when it came in. Well I picked up 2 days ago and asked why it was taken of in the first place, to see if he would lie. He said it must have fell off. 🤣😅😅. I told him at 44 yo. I've owned about 20 different cars and trucks. Never seen or heard of that happening before. Even with tire blowouts. No sir, that was taken off. But why ? I knew why, they were trying to diagnose that sound and lost it in the process. Your video has your car making the exact same sound as my car so I'm going to go ahead and order the parts and fix it. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
@@ScottsGarage17 Thanks for the video, I have this clunk/pop noise only when I go down to 20% slope to my garage. It clunk out of sudden. I am not sure if it could be all out of a sudden. @@ScottsGarage17 I found that loud clunks caused by loose nuts from one of the joint. it is quiet now. By the way, what is the brand of the stabilizer link you buy? I am wondering why it creaky/clunky although the boot is not torn yet.
@@rondhole Some sway (stabilizer) links have ball joints at one or both ends. Those can start going bad and become loose without the rubber looking bad on the outside.
I did replace it and it turns out not the cause of the clunk. The ball joints parts on the sway bar links were still excellent, no difference from the new one. The noise is still there after the original Toyota parts replacement. I think it is a rattle from the interior plastics to the body. An insulation/bumper may be missing.
idk how i didnt find this video sooner. ive had my car since august 2019 and its made it since 3 days after i got it!! its passed inspection twice making this noise
That's a dang good video. Very informative. Thank you very much!!! I'm thinking I'm having issues with my stabilizer links or maybe the sway bar itself. I'll have to check it out.
I have broken a number of links (Over 40 years) by sharply turning into my driveway which has a raised curb entrance from the street. You find these raised curbs on many home driveways these days. The sway bar becomes overextended (Twisted tense?) on the outer side of the turn and will pop off the link on that side, more so if the link is weakened with age and/or you have a heavy front end (Front wheel drive). A figure eight will make a popping sound when the broken link and bar strike together again, so an "8" is a good diagnosis tool, thanks. If you are a cowboy in jumping curbs such as these, you are prone to have this happen.

Serious question here. I have an old 2004 Nissan Murano. It’s on its last legs. Has 188k miles on it. I need to exchange for a new vehicle but the way the prices are now in 2022 I’m holding off for the time being. I don’t have much of a noise when driving. I had some brake work done and the mechanic inspected the vehicle for me. He noted the sway bar links and recommended changing them. I decided to hold off since I plan to get a new vehicle in 6-12 months depending on the market. What would happen if I just held off on not replacing the sway bar links? I don’t drive too crazy but drive 80 miles for work 4 days a week. I don’t hear much noise. The car appears to be running well. I don’t turn too aggressively.
I am not a professional. If I were you I would ask the mechanic if he felt changing them was a matter of safety over the next 6-12 months. If not, then don't change them.
intermittent clinking/thunking sound After coming home from a camping trip, my 99 4Runner had an intermittent clinking sound on the passenger side. Never could figure out the rhyme or reason until my brother jumped up and down on the front bumper while I watched underneath. It was a loose bolt on the sway bar link. Two people is better than one trying to figure it out.
Very beneficial as I am going through this on my 13 Silverado! Thankyou , I replaced the inner and outer tie rods thinking that was it based on what Firestone told me .
Control arms is usually obvious, the rubber crack or split. Stabilizer bar links and bushings are harder to detect unless you have praybar and lift the car at tbe same level
Just got a 2009 Focus. There's a clunking/popping type sound from the left front, mostly during low speed turns. It must be the sway bar links. I read that it is a common problem for the Focus, along with bad motor mounts and the rocker panels rust out quickly. The rocker panels were replaced before I bought it, and the motor mounts are surely bad because there is a lot of vibration and rattling in general. I got the trifecta with these sway links! I get 31.4 mpg though. I am loving that part.
I put brand new shocks and struts, new lower arms and link rods and im pleased with the outcome however when i take the car over speedbumps at around 25-30 kmph, there's a thud heard within the cabin and its pretty loud and annoying. This thud is heard as soon as the front wheels roll over the speed bump. What could it be???
Hello mate, I have it on my f10 530d xdrive 2013. Do you think its sway bar? I have new suspension and mound. But the car goes straight. Just the stupid annoying knocking sound. Maybe all related to just a single “ bush”..Issues: 1) knocking sound from somewhere on left side during slow ride on bumpy road 2) creaking sound while i turn steering very way left/right while stationary 3) Breaking “creaking sound” while having its complete stop
in a 2017 D CHALLENGER SXT 6CYL. drivers side sway bar, the bushing is new and popped out of where it sits properly bolted down w the 15mm bolts. I was able to get the new bushing on the driver's side but having a hard time making it sit in the groove where the bushing should sit so can tighten up the two 15 mill bolts and the heatshield cover. do I have to unloose the passenger side also to make the bushing for the bushing to sit properly in its place to tighten down. please advise and thank you, love the channel. Im having that exact sound in the same scenarios, took so long to track down this video of a sway bar link, all other videos pointed to my outer cv joint but that looked good to me after checking
I replaced the sway arm links and bushings today. Took it for a test drive it was so nice and quiet! My husband took the car across town and now the horrible noise is back! The struts were replaced last month. Suggestions???
Yup I have the same noise. Surprisingly it starts after I drive later in the day not in the morning. It even happens when I turn the wheel side to side parked. I recently installed new struts and sway bar end links. I just put the old sway bar link and it stopped. So I think it's definitely the end links not the strut.
Stupid question but will you only feel these components while turning and if they're bad will it effect how thr car drives in anyway (acceleration and braking), I've replaced pretty much everything else.
I replace the sway bar link, the sway bar busing and the lower ball joint where the noise coming from and still didn’t solve the problem. This same exact noise still there. What else could it be?
same noise I have , I have lifted truck I replaced cv axel , ball joint upper and lower , now I took the car to mechanic and say rack an pinion but I said I don't believe is that , and I see this video .... never think in end link that is my problem maybe ... thanks so much
I changed my outer tie rod ends, got my alignment done. A week later I start hearing a creaking noise on passenger front when I turn the wheel. I’m 90% sure I have a bad sway bar link
I was driving and heard something break! i stopped but I could still drive so I said fuck the tow I’m going to make it close as I could and did💯😭🙏🏽 Steering wheel loose as hell now though 😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Holy shit. 2:38 finally someone seems to have replicated the sound I have on my Kia. You get in the car, frame moves from the weight, *clunk*. You slightly turn the wheel, *clunk*. Rolling/cruising in a parking lot? *Clunk, clunk, clunk*. Have had mechanics tell me it is (and charge me for): inner tie rods, CV axles + housing, transmission mounts, everything. Been ready to drive the car off a bridge with me inside.
@@mrs.shortc8ke690 so basically what it ultimately ended up being was the front struts + stabilizer link bars. Cheap to buy on your own and then if there’s a good mechanic around it shouldn’t break the bank to get them installed 👌🏻
Most of the time suspension noise is bad sway bar bushings and end links because the bar get twisted and pull every time you turn hard or brake and accelerate hard. So those bushing get worn quicker because the noise happens when the bar starts moving around in the worn bushing same with the end links and the noise becomes more loud when bumps stress the suspension
Cool Video ! I had a very slight clicking sound when going over speed bumps . I took it into the mechanic and the put my car on lift checked it out . Even drove around in it and said nothing wrong . Well it’s a year later and the sound is really obvious now . Loud clicking on any bump or pothole. And such . Interesting that the mechanic with all their sophisticated equipment missed that .What’s a average price for that replacement from a mobile mechanic?
@@unnainconnu9098 my new mechanic found it was the upper ball joint and it was really bad . He said in his opinion it probably was worn out 6 months ago or more and it was in dangerous condition . So I knew all along it wasn’t good . That was the 3rd mechanic and he found out . I’m glad I got that mechanic. He saved a big problem if I just brushed it off like the first two mechanics.
My 109k miles 2013 Honda Odyssey is making a sort of metal clanking/rattling sound when going over small bumps, not when turning though. Think it's the sway bar links?
My car makes a rattle noise different than the creaking noise in this video. And only when there is like a 2" straight gap in the road. Doesn't do it over manhole covers, uneven roads or pot holes. Only on those seams in the roads. Any ideas?
I noticed my links boots were torn but it was clugging noise. Now it sounds like this but not creaking, it taps. Sounds like a bad cv axle but it's not on turns only when braking and acceleration.
Brandon made sure the new links were well lubed. He kept on manually moving the links with his hands to make sure they were well greased before he installed them. Perhaps this would work.
Hi , I have this kind of sound especially when I step on the brakes, and I am driving for a while, this sound after this appears when I am accelerating the car because this sound is not coming when the car is cold , did u have the same problem ? Thank you for your answer 🧐
Andres La Torre yes, the sound became more pronounced the hotter the temperature and longer the car drove. Braking didn’t make much difference in my case.
Andres La Torre I still have the car and replaced just about everything except the tie rods. We still have the sound. I haven’t done anything more to fix it but am inspired to get back at it. Thanks for asking.
Scott's Garage you scary me Scott , I hope to find this solution in my Fusion 2010 , i don’t know exactly what is this and I hope is this sway bar link or something about the suspension 🙏🏼, and good to know that I am not alone with this problem 😀 thank you
Do sway bar links sound like metal weights (like when you put gym plates onto each other) tapping each other. Mechanics have looked and everything is tight!
I'm having the clucking noise when driving slow over bumps..I changed outer tie rods, and both sway bar links...then shocks today! Still same clucking noise 😢
My 09' Es350 has been making a POP noise when I hard accelerate and hard stop. Mostly accelerate. I changed the Motor Mount, and still does this POP. Any leads on what it could be?
Pops and creaks when the car rocks (start or stop as you described) or hits a speed bump/pothole: Find a strong point (that won't easily dent) to push down on a corner of the car. Sitting on the front corner works well as a test. If you can get it to pop or creak, your struts might be dried out and need replacing. Also look for signs of hydraulic oil leaking down the side of the struts. That's a big clue a strut is bad, even if it's quiet. If it's not this and the suspension bounces nicely, turn your wheel all the way to each side and inspect both sides in the wheel wells, front and back, for loose joints. Your phone may take good pictures to see around corners, as well as being a convenient flashlight. Have somebody else bounce the car as above while you look in the wheel wells. (Keep your body safely clear while bouncing.) You might also be able to lift some weight off the car by hand, from the top of the wheel well. If you can't see or hear something moving to narrow it down, it might have to be inspected by a mechanic, or at least put on a lift to find the trouble. Paying diagnostic fees sucks, but breaking down or having a crash of any kind is always worse. Option 2: Stop accelerating and stopping hard. If it hurts when you do that...y'know, don't do that! (Mostly joke answer, but it is good to try to avoid this as a general habit, and most of us have room for improvement there. Brake pads aren't the only part that'll last longer with less forceful driving.)
For me it was the wheel bearing and I got lucky I changed the right part this time cause I buy parts and later find out it's not needed. I did see that the sway bar link is all messed up but I don't hear any noise
Mine does the same noise but only when im braking and turning the car at the same time. Its more noticeable when driving slowly/parking. It doesn't happen if my foot isn't pressing the brakes.

Jay......
The only component left to change is the strut top mount , plenty videos on RUclips to check it physically from the top
Yup I have the same noise. Surprisingly it starts after I drive later in the day not in the morning. It even happens when I turn the wheel side to side parked. I recently installed new struts and sway bar end links. I just put the old sway bar link and it stopped. So I think it's definitely the end links not the strut.
I just got my struts put in too, same issue
Thanks for the demonstration. Great information!
thank you very much, been having same nosie when turning on my audi a3. Now i will check my links 👍👍👍👍
that just happened to mine 🥲
Stupid question but will you only feel these components while turning and if they're bad will it effect how thr car drives in anyway (acceleration and braking), I've replaced pretty much everything else.
Oh this just verified my guess for what that fucking noise was I knew it! Thanks for the vid man!
Yep that's how my car is sounding. Same car too lol. Thanks!
I replace the sway bar link, the sway bar busing and the lower ball joint where the noise coming from and still didn’t solve the problem. This same exact noise still there. What else could it be?
thank you sm this helped determine my problem the parts are on their way!!!
same noise I have , I have lifted truck I replaced cv axel , ball joint upper and lower , now I took the car to mechanic and say rack an pinion but I said I don't believe is that , and I see this video .... never think in end link that is my problem maybe ... thanks so much
Thanks a lot bro finally figured it out
I changed my outer tie rod ends, got my alignment done. A week later I start hearing a creaking noise on passenger front when I turn the wheel. I’m 90% sure I have a bad sway bar link
Me too 😩😩 and I literally just got them both done and I think my sway bar already broke or something 🥺🤬😭
😆😂 no not the bridge but I'm glad you got it fixed I was told it was my suspension, strauts and shocks. And it's still doing the noise too.
@@mrs.shortc8ke690 so basically what it ultimately ended up being was the front struts + stabilizer link bars. Cheap to buy on your own and then if there’s a good mechanic around it shouldn’t break the bank to get them installed 👌🏻
@@thestarseeker8196 👍
They don't use any sophisticated equipment to diagnose that. If they'd use an action cam to film the suspension they might have found it.
@@unnainconnu9098 They actually do. It's called a stethoscope.
I'm going to try this. Bushings looked fine. 2017 Dodge Charger. I'm going to replace these. The clunking is so Annoying.
My 109k miles 2013 Honda Odyssey is making a sort of metal clanking/rattling sound when going over small bumps, not when turning though. Think it's the sway bar links?
Mine does this too and I'm trying to figure out where the noise is coming from?
@@woaw2awesome my husband replaced the shocks, and it's better but I swear I still hear just one faint knock occasionally. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
@@mollyforrest9463 possibly top mounts
Does it creek when car is just stays and you rotate steering wheel?
If I turning right can hear the squeaking sound which the bar link faulty right or left? Thank you 🙏
My car makes a rattle noise different than the creaking noise in this video. And only when there is like a 2" straight gap in the road. Doesn't do it over manhole covers, uneven roads or pot holes. Only on those seams in the roads. Any ideas?
Is there a risc in not replacing?
Wow great great video
Thank you
Great insight
Thanks !!! Getting this fixed soon
Does that same sound come up when your stopped and turn the wheel left and right?
Yes. I’m having that exact problem. It’s def the sway bar link. I’m amazed
Great vid!! Think I just figured out my issue 🙏
Great video, 👍
I noticed my links boots were torn but it was clugging noise. Now it sounds like this but not creaking, it taps. Sounds like a bad cv axle but it's not on turns only when braking and acceleration.
Thanks Scott, best explaination. I am in Phoenix and need a mechanic, would you have a chance to get Brandon's contact information? Thanks
My vw made similar noise, when turning the wheels and when stationary, was coil strut sprig broke. Also needed a ball joint.
i have the same car so this surprisingly is perfect
A question if I have this problem is that okay if I keep drive for a few days until get it fixed ?
I been driving with bad sway bars for a couple weeks now. Nothing bad yet but I am planning to get it fixed.
I just replaced the sway bar links on my 03 civic now I’m hearing a clunking sound. Could it be the worn out bushings?
Brandon made sure the new links were well lubed. He kept on manually moving the links with his hands to make sure they were well greased before he installed them. Perhaps this would work.
I'm having the same exact creak and squeak. Driving me nuts trying to figure it out till I saw this.
It happens when I go over bumps is that normal for sway bar?
My end links are three weeks old and it has that sound. I might have to tighten it up
Hi Scott, while it makes a knocking sound, can you feel the "knock" through the steering column? It's like clicking feedback
No, I could not feel it through the steering column.
@@ScottsGarage17 Hmm it's making the same noise, maybe the steering rack?
@Scott's Garage hi did this happen mostly hen applying the brakes
Hi , I have this kind of sound especially when I step on the brakes, and I am driving for a while, this sound after this appears when I am accelerating the car because this sound is not coming when the car is cold , did u have the same problem ? Thank you for your answer 🧐
Andres La Torre yes, the sound became more pronounced the hotter the temperature and longer the car drove. Braking didn’t make much difference in my case.
Hello Scott how about the other Ford Fusion hybrid that you have on your videos ? They r look like with the same problem ? Did you fix it ?
Andres La Torre I still have the car and replaced just about everything except the tie rods. We still have the sound. I haven’t done anything more to fix it but am inspired to get back at it. Thanks for asking.
Scott's Garage you scary me Scott , I hope to find this solution in my Fusion 2010 , i don’t know exactly what is this and I hope is this sway bar link or something about the suspension 🙏🏼, and good to know that I am not alone with this problem 😀 thank you
Could this go bad after 6 years but with only around 14000 miles?
Thanks a lot bro finally found the problem
Yeah mines been shot for a while. Just ordered new links because I'm sick of the thuds
Do sway bar links sound like metal weights (like when you put gym plates onto each other) tapping each other. Mechanics have looked and everything is tight!
Yes, they do sound like weights that are dropped. It doesn't matter if they are tight if they are not lubed correctly.
@@ScottsGarage17 Can u lube them yourself, I have a Ford FREESTAR van my mechanic 👨🔧 boyfriend passed away, recently?
Yes, that is the sound.
@@signetulupan if your sway bar links have zerk fittings you can.
I have the same problem in my ford falcon xr6 it makes a clunk down the drivers side. It's when I turn and go over bumps.
I'm having the clucking noise when driving slow over bumps..I changed outer tie rods, and both sway bar links...then shocks today! Still same clucking noise 😢
WHAT!?
Like a binding or pressing noise of metal on metal
Hey man I’m in Phoenix is Brandon still doing mechanic work ? Can I get his number? Seems like an honest mechanic
Yes he's still in Phoenix. His number is 602-653-5862
Oh so the sound of popping when the car is just turned off is a sign of bad links?! I never knew that
Looks like i have the same problem. Thank you
For me it was the wheel bearing and I got lucky I changed the right part this time cause I buy parts and later find out it's not needed. I did see that the sway bar link is all messed up but I don't hear any noise
Fortunately I have greaseabe links but I was worried they would be the cvs
I just placed the Rack & Pinion, and stabilizer links on my 2011 Ford fusion, and I still have the same creaking, popping sound.
Tie rods also make a similar noise.
Thanks brother
That helps me out
Thank you was helpful
Thank you. This helps.
There are no upper control bars in a McPherson strut suspension, the links attach to the strut on both sides.
Mine does the same noise but only when im braking and turning the car at the same time. Its more noticeable when driving slowly/parking. It doesn't happen if my foot isn't pressing the brakes.
Did he change the front or rear sway bar links?
Front
I have replaced my control arms, brakes, tie rods and It still clunks when I turn and it still shakes a bit when I brake so idk what to do
steering link possibly
Bing, Bing thank you scott
Just did my sway bar. Frame bolts for the subframe were rusted together. They had to be cut. So I needed a new subframe, lower control arms, and a new sway bar and links.....2100 bucks.
Sounds like my car, to me it sounds like an old spring bed !!!
😄
