I have a 2022 ford edge less than 2 years old with a right front thump over bumps , I hope I don't have pull the engine to get to the front sway bar bushing. It could be other issues like a sway bar link, shock strut. This car is too new to start having issues. Are the cars built know that cheap ???

I've been dealing with that exact clunking noise in my 08 cobalt for little over a year now. I've replaced a little more than half the front suspension, but the noise always made an appearance shortly after. (Definitely not complaining though because that car needed a lot of love since the day I bought it) I finally got frustrated with it and started looking at every little thing I haven't replaced yet and low and behold it has been the sway bar bushing this whole time!

It is important to put the axle under load to make it easier to put the links on. I tried it with and without the load, and the links fit much easier with the axle holding the weight of the car in a normal position. I also used a bottle jack to slightly raise or lower the axle to make the links fit even better. More videos should mention this technique since it is not always obvious to the viewer where the jack / stands are located, frame or axle or both.

On some cars you can leave one bolt in each of the brackets and turn them to the side, that way the bar doesn't drop, and it's less work for you.

  • @nameismetatoo4591

In my case it was both the end links and bushings. I assumed that replacing end links would get rid of it, so I cut the old ones off and replaced them. The sound changed, but did not go away. I realized what I thought was one sound were actually two different sounds happening simultaneously. The end links made a harder impact noise while the sway bar bouncing around in the bushings made a softer thumping noise.
Though I guess in most cases both the end links and bushings are going to wear out around the same time, so it's probably wise to replace both if either start to make noise.

You should grease the bushings with poly grease - thicker and more tacky. Also dont over torque those frame bolts or use loctite, You'll never get them off. Torque for those bolts typically arent that high. Look up the spec.

So we replaced two end links on our car they are super stiff compared to the looser previous ones. But now there is clunking at slow speed. is this because they are probably causing more issues with the bar bushings as the links are new and the bushings old? Our car is gonna be a bish to change the bushings as the bar is above the frame and hard to access the bolts.

    • @esehavek1
      @esehavek1 11 месяцев назад

Sometimes it's not that they're being dishonest, it's just that it could B anything making that noise. Sometimes it's just a loose bolt. Sometimes it's just a bushing, sometimes u just needed some lubrication. It could B a ball joint. I had an issue once with a noise down there & it was the steering rack. A bolt was loose right there lol I had a friend where his trucc was making a noise for a long time. It ended up being a loose subframe bolt lol You'd B surprised . Unfortunately Sometimes it takes time. & taking it to a shop, u get charged for that time. Hence, why it becomes expensive fast. It's best to do the easy stuff yourself that way they don't charge to checc those things already done. Saves u money

    intermittent clinking/thunking sound
After coming home from a camping trip, my 99 4Runner had an intermittent clinking sound on the passenger side. Never could figure out the rhyme or reason until my brother jumped up and down on the front bumper while I watched underneath. It was a loose bolt on the sway bar link. Two people is better than one trying to figure it out.

I just recently replaced my old sway bar bushing with new ones without adding any grease for lubrication. After driving for about 2-3 weeks, I started to hear the clunking noises which coming from the sway bar bushing. I crawled under the truck and added some Valvoline Multi-Vehicle High-Temperature Red Grease and the clunking noises went away. Now, the clunking noises are coming back, so what am I doing wrong here? 2007 Tacoma V6 Prerunner

My 2006 Kia Sportage has that problem, but the bushing bolts are hidden between the frame and body. Dropping the subframe some or completely is required. The Kia/Hyundai engineer that did this should oay for them😅.

I just replaced the front control arms, sway bar links, and ball joints. There's still a single clunk sound when going over small bumps at around 25-30mph and when I make a left hand turn. I've had a mechanic look at all the suspension components and wheel bearings, and he stated everything looks fine. So, upon my inspection, the sway bar bushings look worn. Almost as bad as the old control arm bushings did. So, I'm hoping that's the culprit and not a upper strut mount.

I searched all my front end for a noise, sway bars, ball joints idler arms, bottom end of shocks, Then the very last place today I checked is I put the listening device on the top bolt of left shock. That’s what the issue is. Is there a bushing that can be replaced there? The shock itself is in good shape, actually everything else is. I have a 2018 Sierra and it looks like that top rubber is wore out, you know what it’s called?

33k miles mine is making a similar noise and I think it's one of these issues. It goes in friday. Very disappointed with all suspension issues, one rear fox shock two front fox struts and one inner tie rod since driving it off the lot last summer. 19 TRD pro. Can't believe my jeep had less suspension issues than a toyota. Then again the jeep was corroding from the inside out paint wise...but still the suspension worked.

when you check the sway bar for play, do you need to have the car on jack stand with the front tires in the air or the front tires need to be press on the strut? you know what I mean.

Folks, do yourself a favor - if you aren't mechanically savvy - get yourself a PRIVATE mechanic with good recommendations. And skip the rip-off retailers who are marking up parts and labor by obscene amounts. I do repairs like this, as I can. But for more technical repairs or things I don't have proper tools or a lift for - my personal mechanic has saved me thousands over the last couple of years. Private guys don't have retailer overheads of a building lease, maintaining a huge garage, franchise fees, healthcare and benefits plans for mechanics and employees. Because every time you go to a retailer, you're subsidizing all of that overhead and getting hit with crazy overcharges! And with my guy, typically, I can schedule a convenient day and get my car back much quicker. Just make sure your mechanic warranties his work!

Found some on amazon that reviews say will fit but they literally do not make this part for benz owners I guess they want to only sell the whole sway bar... I was wondering if I have a noise that sounds like rubbing when I am at a standstill and I hear it when moving the wheel from lock to lock could that be these bushing? My noise is very different from the clunking noise you were showing and I don't have any play but I was wondering if it could be the sway bar sliding back and forth in the bushing as I turn the steering rack....@@klowny1969

I’ve got a 2019 ram rebel that does this knock only in the winter 50 degrees and below. Started making the noise around 22,000 only in cold months took to the dealership five different times always said they could not find anything wrong. I convinced him to replace the swaybar links which did not fix the problem. Started to think it was the bushings when looking underneath they did not look too healthy truck is now out of warranty going to replace them. I hope this is it. Wasted a lot of time, taking it into the dealership. When they did the swaybar links, they should’ve did the bushings at the same time just to get me out of their hair. Mine only does it in the winter months did you guys have the same problem or was it all year around?
