Nintendo Switch Modding - Must have HomeBrew Apps

- Here is my MUST HAVE list of homebrew apps in 2024. I'm sure there are tons that you all love and enjoy...but this is my starting point, and as usual, the HATS project just about nails the list for me.
HATS project is on TWITTER (x) search for Sthetix (@sthetixofficial) Click "Highlights" then find the post that links his telegram channel. From there you can download the latest HATS pack.
As ALWAYS. I do NOT promote piracy. Only backup games for which you have the physical cartridges and are legally allowed. None of my opinions are legal advice.

Caution
15:11 - AllInOne Switch Updater - This is really convenient and powerful, I've just bumped into a ton of people that screw something up by updating the wrong items at the wrong time...be careful
15:50 - Daybreak - This is for manually updating the base firmware within your emummc, which Atmosphere must be compatible with to run...so again, use caution.
Bonus
16:41 - 90DNS Testing Utility - a DNS MITM tester that makes sure your exosphere and deefault/emummc.txt files are blocking the Nintendo servers as they should.
I tend to check these types of videos sporadically as I've known how to homebrew since the Wii at the least and almost all of these apps are in my must-have apps list. Thanks for the vid for reference!

When you do these gamecard dumps are they immediately working with switch emulators? I'm trying to run Age of Calamity at higher then 120p and hopefully 60fps
I believe once you have your prod and title keys imported it’s just drag and drop. It’s been a while since I set up my PC emulators, but I remember it being pretty straightforward!
Thinking about buying another switch since I would like to keep my launch model unmodded since it’s got a lot of stuff on there.
I’ve got 6-7 floating around the house…not a bad plan. They are cheap enough used now!

So do you have a EMUNAND and SYSNAND? Or is this all on SYS?
If you follow my hekate walkthrough you’ll have emmummc and sysmmc “systems”. Emmu for all your backups, and sys for…well Fortnite essentially 😂 (any online play of originals)
So this being said ur games installed on internal if ur on emunand will not install to the "actual" switch console! It will install to an emulated internal storage really.

If you start with the HATS pack there really is next to zero risk, but I feel your pain. I used to do the same just to be safe!

My switch is possibly patched. I checked the serial on a website if I try to mod it is there a bigger risk of getting it bricked or anything I should know of.
Really minimal risk of software bricking at this point. Just follow my guides and use the latest HATS package and you’ll be fine. Hardest/most anxiety inducing is the soldering until you get used to it. Best of luck!
When using homebrew when playing PSP game do you have to turn off the Nintendo switch one time then you can play online if you want to use homebrew again turn off the Nintendo switch then turn back on
Yes. Just be extra careful to NEVER install anything but legitimate titles on your sysnand.

Yes. To switch back and forth between “online” and offline modes you need to boot back into hekate and select the proper “system”. You also need to configure the default.txt file as the HATS pack blocks everything so you don’t get banned.

Wonder how secure it is to backup my transferable save data from my NSO account cloud with the one mentioned.
I haven’t looked into this specifically. You’d have to have the save data moved onto an unmodified switch, then mod it. Because if you do it right, you will no longer be able to access the Nintendo servers…if that makes sense.

Can i use (usb file transfer) to transfer (mission control) to homebro without having errors or the need to restart?

The usb transfer is good stuff, it’ll act just like a thumb drive, so you should be good to transfer whatever you need over.
It doesn’t matter if you put them on the SD card or the internal storage. Either one is fine and neither one will raise your chances of a ban anymore than you already have.
I’m new to this, why don’t people use the usb file transfer app that come already in the aio pack?
Edit: I see you have it included on your list as well but most guides online don’t really include it.

Start with the current HATS from sthetix and you’ll be golden

If you’re buying a modded one…the oled is pretty darn awesome. If you are modding it…start with a v2 and see how you do under pressure 😂

@@RandysRandomHobbies Thank you. Does your wife have a modded switch as well? As you said you took her save from her system and put it on yours.
She has an old first gen switch that I was able to use the rcm jig on. But I’m going to put a chip in that one too eventually because she constantly lets the battery die completely and then I have to use the jig again😂

If you search around you can find sites that host the update files. I can’t post here. And again, only download games you legally own. But the update files are clearly marked as updates and always end in a random number. They install the same as a game would. Also worth noting, I haven’t encountered any updates that require you to do steps revisions, so the latest one is all you need. If that makes sense.

As above…yes. Yes it is.
I have 2 sd cards I lost my games somehow I used hats and it kept giving me errors luckily I just took my main card and duplicated it I have all the files on my main card backed up on my PC before any games were put on it so it's a fresh install
Have you gotten themes to work?
I don’t mess with themes. It really screws with updates, and N has been pushing updates so frequently lately it’s crazy. Maybe when the switch reaches end of lifecycle and I can just set it up once and be done. Just my $0.02 though. Some do look really cool. Just haven’t convinced myself it’s worth the effort!
Why you don’t have tinfoil folder?
I believe I had the old version at the time that installed like a game. They now have a self installed one packed with HATS.

Nope. Just use the HATS package and follow my guide, or reentry, or banana.

It goes without saying…but I’m saying it anyway. DONT UPDATE UNTIL HEKATE SUPPORTS 18…the dev is awesome, but it still may take a week or two.
