Taki, thank you for providing proper captions with your videos. It's an often overlooked accessibility feature, and I appreciate it because I personally like watching without sound sometimes. This also helps lots of people who have lesser hearing or issues with auditory processing. Very fascinating to see this little system output such resolutions, too.

While it cant clock as high as the v2/oled, the Oled has a NERF'D FAN ( Which no one ever talks about ) which has seen an abundance of switch HW being fried. That screen tearing may be an Nvidia issue.
On Linux, the new display system Wayland has tearing issue with Nvidia due to Nvidia not having their drivers fully up to date for it. (The fixes to solve the issue have been pushed back 4 times now but SHOULD be there in driver 560 at the latest). If the Switch was an AMD GPU this tearing may not happen as on Wayland compositors by default there is always v-sync all the time on everything.
Now if the Switch Linux is rendering with the old Xorg/X11 system this is not applicable

Do you have a screen mod in your V1? At around 3:36 you're talking about your V1 Switch docked and outputting to an external screen, but it looks as though you're using an OLED with your V1-mod joycons attached. Have I misunderstood? My wife is using my V1 at the moment so I'd love to know if there's a better screen I can install for her.

I always found it strange that the switch didnt Output 4K when the ShieldTV did. I dont need 4K Games but a better upscaling then the tv itself would be nice so why not Output in 4K?
Also like a few 2D Games could have been in 4K. Strange choice I never understood

It's a very Nintendo thing to do
I really hope they didn't cut any corners for the Switch 2, at least not where it counts. I fully expect 4k HDR, i would be so disappointed if that's not actually the case. And for handheld 1080p or a *good* 90hz oled in a lower res, like the steam deck

@zaptheporcupine1578 Yeah indeed. 4K HDR would be no problem. The Tegra X1 was a Maxwell based GPU and these had performance issues when outputting in HDR, newer architectures doesnt have this issue, so there is no difference between SDR and HDR. For me I hope Nintendo finally adds a proper Surround Codec. LPCM ist fine and actually super clean because in its nature its uncompressed but its so annoying to get working because most TVs arent passing this through so you have to plug in the Switch directly to the soundbar or av which cant introduce some delay and ist guaranteed that LPCM is accepted. So please use Dolby or DTS this time Nintendo

I mean this to me is a sign that the next Switch should be capable of all of this with ease and maintain good battery life when undocked. I assume it will upscale when docked only just like this example. I am excited for the future.

This man right here puts out the best conent we wanted to see ref the switch! Man i can't imagine the lenghts you had to go through to put this video together and answer all those questions.
I own a ps5, steam deck, and switch, but i must admit i am impressed with switch's performance. I wonder if my s24u could beat it in actuality with sd8gen3 🤔

This does make me believe the rumors that the oled was supposed to be more than just a screen upgrade. But supply chain issues led them to abandon that.

How's the power draw with these overclocks? I know the OLED usually draws 6-7W in the dock, what is it like here?

    • @TakiUdon
      @TakiUdon  7 месяцев назад +2

Excluding the last section, ~6-9W is normal.

I literally thought this was the rumored Switch 2. I'm still anxious that Ninetendoe would pull this out. We know that the company can produce exceptional hardware. It's like they're holding back and taking the safe route just to not have the mishap that Samsung had with the first Note phones

I think we can assume the switch 1 OLED is capable of running a majority of the upcoming switch 2 games, but it won't be native. Switch 1 emulating switch 2 games in 4k. Can't wait.

crispy doom is software rendered so it actually doesn’t render on the gpu at all, it’s just raw cpu so that’s why crispydoom was running slower
