A coffee filter actually works way better than a paper towel for cleaning off thermal paste because it doesn't leave behind any fibers. Just a piece of advice someone shot my way once that I thought I'd pass on.
Thanks for this 👍
that depends on the quality of the kitchen tower as well. I use from Costco and I'm happy with the quality here in the UK. But, if I buy the cheapest at Asda/Wallmart - no way Jose I'd use it on a daily basis.
screenshotting this. thank you for sharing, friend.
@@Imetral0no
@@screen-protector I loves me some Costco, but the perk with coffee filters is that they don't leave behind any fibers or residue by design (no one wants floaters in their coffee), so even the cheapest pack of filters generally will beat out paper towel for removing thermal paste. That said, if you have a go to method that works, then the more power to ya. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)
I've never watched a video which literary kept me on the edge of my seat, the soldering is really scary, good job
Thanks mate 👍
this is an hwfly rp2040 based clone, similar to the picofly modchips. this install is by far the easiest out of all chips and all switches because all necessary points come through the nand header. oleds and lites are WAY harder, do not underestimate the switch.
I have just finished an oled install, I write at the end it's a hard install and I don't recommend it!
@@fixingmoddingbuilding this was not a personal message, just a warning that some may want to reconsider their own attempts and seek a professional to get their newer switches modded.
What version Switch does the hwfly rp2040 work on? Only version 1? Why not just use the unpatch method to mod a version 1?
@@reyjedi3586 there's versions for all the switch's, some v1 are patched, not all can be modded without a chip
Don’t know if anyone has let you know this yet: pre tin the gpu flex then apply flux and reflow to install. 10 million times easier
I'm 99% sure that this comment saved my Switch :) My soldering iron had huge issues melting tin properly, rotated through several heads I got with it before I found the right one. Having pre-tinned pads meant I just had to jab few times so the tin made contacts so felt much safer than applying soder directly on the Switch...
whats pre tin mean?
@@jahredking4934 it means that before you install the component you apply solder to the pads. By doing this when you solder the joint there is a good amount of solder on the pads, which makes it much easier to achieve a good weld
@@falconmickAnd what does reflow mean, like as in, re-heating the solder on the pads when soldering it to the board?
@@SToad I could be using the wired reflow wrong, but what I meant was basically after pre timing, once the part is in place, re-melting the solder I applied so that it melts and makes the weld I was aiming for

11:59 It hurt my heart to see those wire cutters abused so. Get yourself down to Harbor Freight (or Lowe's / Home Depot) and grab yourself a set of tiny $1 cutters. But actually, definitely go to Harbor Freight if you have one nearby. Just spend an hour in there. Or maybe $100. Or just $10 if you can maintain self control.

Thanks for posting this video. I followed it to a tee. But, when booting I get a blue light, then purple (i think), then none. Blank screen. Tried redoing the mod once. Checked everything many times. Even checked connections with a meter. But the mod doesn't really seem to work. So I reverted back to stock. Oh well. lol.
Oddly relaxing to watch.
Those are chips, those are SMD Capacitors. You should have used a little more flux on when soldering to the capacitors. It would have made it a little easier instead of trying to drag the solder to the pad. Also, your method can create a cold solder joint. Please clean your tip regularly. I would also get a small file and file down those edges after you cut them to give them a smooth finish. Double stick tape would have been easier to use than all of that Kapton tape you put down. Also, you would want to dissipate that heat so putting tape on top in my humble opinion defeats this purpose.
Hi, great video, thanks. Ive just installed one of these and on boot I get a Screen NOSD with a rocket. Does that mean it has no software installed or I now need to do something else?
It means the chip is installed correct, it just needs an sd card now with hekate to boot into cfw.
00:42 I notice there is 2 pieces L shaped ribbon flex named V1 and V2. You are using only V1. Is the other ribbon for V2 switch (hac-001(-01))? I have a V2 model switch so i was wondering if this modchip and flexes are sufficient.
Also what is the success rate of these and the life of the switch after mod? These are chinese stuff so i was wondering.
Yes works on v1/v2.
I can't comment on lifespan but I've never read anything to make me question it.

thanks to this video i was able to install a modchip thank you (i had the v2 it was basicallt the same exceot smaller points which took me a long tjme to finish (first time soldering)) also i ended up just having the memory part of the chip hanging out through the fan part instead of cutting out the metal section (thanks to some comments) and then put kapton tapw under it and a like 3 small strips across the top to secure it in place i think it depends on the model maybe its only possible on the v2 also anothee thing is i ddint put all the kapton tape on the ram part or whatever i just did an x just to secure it in place i think thays kind of better so it can still transfer heat but idk

I did the picofly mod chip install using mosfets and lots of soldering and liked the setup. Than saw these easier to use all in one chips and so decided to pick one up and its cheap and easy to do. Some people talk about boot speeds etc but in my experience its seconds so now I use these as they are cheap and most importantly easy to do!
Thank you for this video! I installed my Modchip and it works first time! I have to figure out why the screw on the outside of the case won't go in. The sd card and 2 left/right sides with the joycons. I think the shield might of bent?
Hi, how did you flash chip after installation? Just connecting switch to pc via usb or from microSD card?
I have one of these on the way. Kinda wondering if it will still fit without cutting the shield.
Install seems easy enough. Cutting the shield is probably more of a pain in the ass tbh lol (i need to buy a dremel one day 🤣)
Thoughts?
I tried to fit it without cutting but it doesn't fit, probably wouldn't advice leaving the shield off either.
Before cutting try routing that part thru the fan opening and laying it on top of the shield (with some protection from shorts in between them ofc - tape etc.) Looks like the black flex cable is far out enough to clear the opening and the indentation in the shield is just the right shape too.

I would say two things, either your unlucky and got a chip without software flashed to it, but this seems strange they sell it like this? The other option is check your soldering, make sure the chips are cleanly soldered too and that is not bridged.

I left mine curing for 24h since i time and i didn't want to rush it. For the small surface as the connection between the mod chip and the cpu/gpu is, it really shouldn't move a bit unless you smash your Switch all over the place.
