    Only notes, are you can use the x4 Slot, doesn't matter with a rx6400. Have a GV-R64D6-4GL in mine, it's what was on open box clearance, and it works and fits just fine.

    I installed an RX 6600 I struggled with a Dell Inspiron 3020s I took the smallest RX 6600 I bought a SATA to 4 pin adapter I installed a PCI extension then once I started I undervolted it to 70W losing it only 7 percent performance
    I took a core I3 to minimize the consumption of the chip because the power supply is only 180w

    the sad things about this optiplex+RX 6400 is that RX 6400 using pcie gen 4 x4 means that when you put it inside optiplex build like this the card will run at pcie gen 3 x4 which severely cuts performance. aside from that the design is quite great, 1 slot slim design and even a low profile bracket

    • @OptiGPU
      @OptiGPU  10 месяцев назад +4

      Yea, of course to get the most out of it you’ll need a newer prebuilt, or build one from the ground up to maximize the card. My channel theme has been based on PCs that could potentially be discarded, but LMK if I should branch out from old office PCs in future vids.

    However, I have a Dell 5040 with the stock ATI FirePro, which is really slow. I thought about getting a used Nvidia GTX 1050TI, which is from 2016. However, while researching I found your video and now I know the much more modern RX 6400 fits too, so I just ordered . This should provide a huge performance boost for my use-case, so thank you for your video!

    I can confirm the 180w psu on my 5050sff does not have enough power. I disconnected the sata cd drive power and cable with no dice. The gpu fan does power on during startup. I plug in DP cable to the onboard you to check status and it's just stuck on the Dell logo. I take out the gpu, power on the pc and it boots to windows without issue.

    I just bought an RX 6400 for my Optiplex 5040 SFF. I bought the HP Victus OEM RX 6400 for 100 bucks. Doesn't come with a low profile bracket but I'm hoping I can modify the one for the R5 340 that came with the Optiplex.
    Hoping to install HoloISO to make it a dedicated gaming console/PC for my living room that I can control solely with a controller. Only issue I forsee is that it doesn't detect the NVME SSD on the install screen.

I had to use tools to cut the full-size PCIe bracket down to fit in the case but it's been running perfectly and plays games well. I upgraded the RAM to 24GB, the CPU to a 6700K and it's a decent little gaming machine, honestly.

    Prices are insane in my country for these optiplexes. Refurbished ones cost around $180 for an i5 6th gen with 8gb ram and a 256 go ssd. That makes them sort of redundant. So wanna try out a low cost build.

    • @OptiGPU

    • @mukular
      @mukular Год назад

      @@OptiGPU Specifically for optiplexes or thinkcentre Lenovo. i3 10th gen with h510 new with costs around $270. For about $90 extra (above the 180 for a used system) you get something a little more modern. For extra $150 (above the 180) we can get i3 12th gen.

    • @Sgt.Lincoln_Osiris
      @Sgt.Lincoln_Osiris Год назад

      In my country you can buy these Optiplexes without processor, hdd, and RAM. The cheapest 5040 SFF I can find is $44, add a used i5-6500 for $40, add new 16GB DDR3 and 256GB SSD for $29, you got a running PC for just $113.

    • @husky3g
      @husky3g Год назад

      That sucks man. You can try to grab one from eBay in the U.S. if the seller ships international.
      I got mine for $55 with a i5-6400, 8GB/RAM and a an RX 550 (terrible GPU)
      Keep in mind, if you want to upgrade the RAM you have to purchase low-power (LP) DDR3 (regular DDR3 does not work since the power-draw is too much).
      I added a 256GB NVMe drive, i7-6700K and 16GB more RAM topping it to 24GB and put an RX 6400 in it. For about $2000 or so I had a great gaming PC. Again, keep in mind if you want to use it for gaming, you either need a GPU that doesn't require external power and is low-profile enough to fit inside the case. Changing the case is an entirely different beast as a lot of stuff inside the case may or may not fit well in standard ATX and the power-supply connectors on the motherboard are proprietary Dell ones, so you need an adapter for the motherboard power connector if you plan on upgrading the power supply.
      There's a lot that goes into these but if you stay on the same gen CPU, keep all the components the same, generation-wise, it can still be a great computer.

      No, because rx 580 is dual slot and draws more electricity

      I believe they are swappable. Some have 180 and some have 240; I just got lucky and purchased mine already containing a 240w.

      but this video card is hot in sff

      Yes, I have an RX 6400 in mine and it runs great. Just be sure to watch the temps on the CPU. I upgraded the CPU to a 6700K and it runs a little hot. Make sure you set the tower in a well-cooled/ventilated place to keep temps down. If you confine it where it can't breathe well, it will run hot and shorten the lifespan of your components.

      In bios there is a setting for video output, try to choose your card instead of auto..
