- Today we buy a RX 6600 graphics card, which is a great gaming card, BUT we pair it with an older prebuilt that is incredibly cheap! We then try the same card in a brand new gaming system that we built for as cheap as possible to see what the price Vs. performance differences are!

This is why I like these guys. They are really there at the budget side showing what's possible, and why building a budget PC vs modding an old office PC does cost more.
The reason the $600 PC did better was the RGB, RGB always increases FPS.
The real reason the custom is better than the pre built is because... Dude!!! Who the fuck wants a Dell?
@@voldem0rt LOL True.
do you think the i5 will be the same or do i need the i7
True
@@IDontKnowLuis try to go for a newer model. 6th gen Intel processors are not worth it in 2023. Try to get a 8th gen or higher. The Intel i7 7th gen is still decent and will offer good performance, but the i5 8th gen is still marginally better.
For a LONG time I was running a 2nd and 4th gen Optiplex as spare gaming rigs with gtx 1650s and they were EXCELLENT value for money. Sometimes when you have 200-400 to spend, it's better to upgrade an existing used PC.
Do not respond to that! It is a scam!
What?
Very true… these gen cpu are very expensive if you in a budget you could go for a i5 4590 will do just fine with a gtx 1660ti or 2060 no more than that cause probably the cpu will be bottleneck but overall 1080p-1440p sweet budget spot
I just recently built my current rig for 400 euros (and that's with the very bad market conditions). It has a ryzen 5 3600, 16gb of ram, 256gb nvme ssd, 1tb hdd, and most importantly, a gtx 1070 strix.
@@matthijsvandeweerd1415 That is actually a pretty beefy setup!
I put a video card (1050ti) in a SFF optiplex by cutting a slot in the side panel with a dremel tool, lining it with door insulation, screwing angle brackets underneath it and setting the GPU on a riser shelf on the angle brackets with the cable going through the slot
I've got the Optiplex 7040 SFF with the same specs and its still very capable in 2022. Love that you guys keep the budget builds on the channel just as much as the over the top ones!!! I'm awaiting my RX6400 to complete my budget build 😎. Keep them coming guys.
The 6400 is really bad bro go 6500 at least or 3050
@@mudzy9820 thanks for the recommendation bro! My Optiplex SFF case cant fit anything larger than a single lane low profile gpu unfortunately 😭. Will have to wait till a save up for my full build to get a decent card.
@@Klark0751 have you ever think about using a pcie riser?
@@marcorill1670 Yes definitely, that would open up my graphics card options but the limitation with the SFF optiplex is that it doesn’t have regular 6 pin power.
So any card I install has to be run off the pcie slot power. That mostly leaves options like the gtx 1650 or the rx 6400 and older gpus.
I finally got my 6400 and its been great so far. E sports titles at 110 to 120fps medium settings and even a few newer triple A titles run alright.
And it all cost me $350
@@Klark0751 great, enjoy
Entertaining video. You guys should run a test using the exact same components across both computers ( GPU, CPU, NVME, RAM ) in order to isolate each motherboard's bottlenecks. I feel like that's the true question between these two build methods.
Guys, love your videos. I’m very curious how much difference you’d notice with the games on the optiplex installed on an SSD. I’m assuming because of the limited storage on the main nvme, you installed all of the benchmark games on the hdd. In my experience, this makes a noticeable difference. I’m just wondering if it would have given even more of a nod to the optiplex.
I really like your video, it was a realistic comparison. By using the same GPU we get a true review of how the compute and I/O hardware can impact price/performance. thanks.
Optiplexes are pretty neat. I have a gtx 970 with a 500w psu, and an i7-3770. Pretty neat.
I have build a game pc with a GTX 970 recently, to sell online with a 500w psu Coolermaster that came with the coolermaster case. Suprisingly it came with 2 6+2 pins. I wanted to build something with a first gen i7 just to have done it. It srtill needs a bettrer cooler thogh.
I have a dell with an i7 4th gen and gtx 1070. Runs new stuff decently still but my 1070 is being bottlenecked quite a bit especially when I tried to play spiderman miles morales recently
pretty neat
That is a good combination. 👍
Stoked for y'all on the Autofull sponsor. Picked up 3 over the past year, and I highly recommend them! One of the best value "Premium" build chairs I could find at the beginning of 2022, when shipping delays brought a drought in "gaming" chairs among other things.

What were the specs on the ram for the optiplex? Would upgrading the ram boost stats?
Fantastic Video As Always Keep Them Coming!
Good video decided to build my first custom pc with similar specs
Did I miss where you mentioned your resolution? I got the frame rate, but is it at 1080p or 4k?
similarly i needed to replace my UNRAID server at home and I put it in a HP Z4 G4 workstation. super cheap and it rocks
Upgraded two Dell Optiplex PCs a few years ago and they have no issues playing any modern games I throw at them including VR tittles. Total cost at the time for each PC and their upgrades was around $450.
did you upgrade psu? What card do you have in them?
Hi! You've inspired me to buy a 7040 MT. I was wondering what power supply the dell was using. Is it the one it comes with? I've read some stuff saying you need to change the power supply to use a gpu in the optiplex and don't know what to think.
Specifics on the optiplex used?? Would want to make sure my first build is 100% going to work
Very good video, but i have any question about it.
I already have an optiplex 7050 with a core i5 7600 an a nvidia gt 1030, the psu isn’t very much powerful and the gpus that go properly need to have a small tdp.
This rx 6600 needs a extra power cable and i my “opti” i don’t have it.
The gpu that i want to buy early is rx 6400 that don’t need extra power but is less powerful than rx 6600.
Can you explain to me how can the rx 6600 function correctly i my optiplex please.
Thankyou in advance and excuse me poor english i’m spanish
What is the system you guys are using in the corner to show the fps and ram and gpu?
Dont build a gaming pc do this....then builds a gaming pc ...wtf
I don't know how long you ran this unit but did you have any issues with the rx 6600 with the pcie adaptors? My 7050 MT has the 6pin from factory and I want to convert it to 8pin to run a rx 6600.
So I’d like to buy that custom build. Which version is it on your website?
Hi I tried this but as soon as I put the GPU in the pc wouldnt start and I suppose its the bad PSU. How did you guys manage to boot it up?
The thing is with the new parts at least your getting warranty from reputable companies whereas the optiplex is used and you won't get a warranty from dell
Enjoy watching your videos!! I am a freelance 3D artist and looking to getting a gaming desktop. I use ZBrush , autodesk maya and blender. I am sort of beginner/intermediate so i am not doing any movie quality stuff more simple but, something that i can expand to do small animation etc.. any thoughts? or someome or a site you could recommend
The 6600 is fine with the power supply in the optiplex? Those are 180-240W and I thought the 6600 requires a 450w PSU.
how did you guys deal with the power supply?
Each method has it's value depening on your needs and budget
The ram are in the wrong slots, there's a diagram on the board that says the white tabs are the prioritized slots.
How does the optiplex do with emulation? Specifically Madden 12 on Playstation 2, would I really need an 8 core 16 thread CPU to run that?
Im trying this build but every time I install the rx600 my optiplex wont load past the dell screen. any ideas what the issue could be?
Is there a nice easy build out there for moderate gaming and run window 11 for when I'm working? (my job requires win 11)
I've gone a slightly different way. I've bought a new Dell Precision 3660 Tower and am gradually going to turn it into a gaming beast beast as I go.
Interesting it seemed in a quote a few games the optiplex didn't appear to be CPU bottlenecked. Wonder if it was slower ram speed holding it back ? Unfortunately nothing that can be sorted as the old optiplex wouldn't run faster ram.
I think the optiplex is really good if you're going with a lower end GPU, eg. a 2nd hand gtx 1070. Then the differences in performance between the new and optiplex build will be even less.
Have you considered the ryzen 5 5500 and a b450 (with a bios update) or b550 motherboard as a good budget option to rival the 12100 ?
I like this dell model, does it had the same size with 3050 tower?
did uou end up using the sata to pcie adapter to power the 6600 in the optiplex?
So If i have am I3 4th gen 16gb Ram PC, should I upgrade it or get an upgrade? I am looking towards getting an I5 4th gen 20gb (upgradable to 64gb) with a GTX790, and a 2tb harddrive. Should I get this or just save up for a GTX3090? I'll probably have to get a stronger power supply in the end anyway, but I know the graphics card would handsomely beef up my specs and make my PC more capable of more hardcore games.
I have 7010 MT with (I think 3rdgen i5) blown motherboard DDR3 and blown powersupply I have collecting dust
Is it worth it even to try to find refurbished mother and add garphics card ?
I forgot that bucket seats are meant for long-term use, like in a suped up camaro or charger, compared to an obvious office chair.
Wasn't a desktop but I picked up a Lenovo Thinkpad yoga laptop that had a 7th gen i7 and a thunderbolt port. Got good deal on an EVGA 2060 and on a zotac amp box. I usually play league of legends and it gets anywhere between 130 - 180 FPS maxed settings at 4k. Still doing more tests but very happy with it's performance.
There's nothing wrong with an Optiplex if you can get it cheap enough to upgrade a bit. Great value for relatively little money.
I get the concept, but wouldn’t this comparison be more accurate if you spent the same amount on both pc’s?
You can't. When you can get an Optiplex for $100 with 8gb ram, and sata ssd, and windows. How you going to put together a new component pc cheaper than that?

I find when you do the refurb from Office computer you need to update Ram storage and video card. So there's a little more involved than just slapping a new video card in.
Yup, usually a power supply upgrade is necessary at the very least. Adding memory is usually necessary. Also, I could not fit an RTX2060 in a mid tower optiplex, but it fit in a microatx precision case.

What program shows percebtage of gpu and cpu used?
is the i7 10700k still a good cpu today?
I've done custom builds and prebuilds. Prebuilds get my vote because they're cost effective, engineered to work as a unit, parts are readily available and they're designed to run Windows flawlessly. Driver are no problem too. For a hassle free cost effective system, prebuilts win easily.
what size is the case?
Do can the RX 580 fit in the MT with a SATA to 6 pin connector???
Cool video concept, not just comparing a PC at the same price point (which would obviously lose). I personally buy these 7040 MTs because they are one of the few DDR4 RAM motherboards dell makes but I only use 1050 Ti's in them because of heat. When I want to do a little more upgrading I use a Dell Precision 3620 which offers a little more room and pretty much the same internals. It's a lot easier to upgrade the PSU, GPU and other parts as well as having a few more vent holes for heat. Love seeing videos with these Dells though. Cheers.
Great video guys. I have a Dell Precision T7100 that i have converted to a gaming rig. Cpu E3 1270 v3, 16gb ram at 1600 with an RTX 2060, i am so proud of my build. I get 60fps in all my games 1080p high/max settings in AAA titles.
Cpu bottleneck
Correct. I get bottlenecks in certain games but there is a way to work around it by using Dlss or Fsr. Helps with taking pressure away from cpu but other then that 99% of the games i play i get a 60-80fps experience.

How did you get the Radeon rx 6600 to work on a 240 watt psu in the optiplex?
I wouldn't recommend it. You can swap to aft market sfx psu with 24 to 8 pin ATX power supply with additional screw hole in the back and Dremel hole for extra psu vent . But it gets wonky and expensive fast that you are better off getting Lenovo p520s with 900W PSU or just build yourself with aftermarket ATX standard case and mobo.
Can this PC be upgraded to run Windows 11, and how?
What if i accidentally ordered 600w psu will it give me bottleneck or something else ?
My main thought while watching this is if you upgraded the GPU and the Case you’re almost golden to move everything over and have near-similar specs for the same price I don’t think it would look as good though due to the green on the motherboard as opposed to the black on the custom
Got two Optiplexs'. Both 9020s. One is a MT with an i7 4790 3.6 ghz. The other is a SFF i7 4770 a 3.4 ghz. The MT sports an RTX 2060. (Yes, I replaced the PS, A Corsair CX 750m and with an adapter for the non-standard power connector on the Dell mb.) The SFF sports an RTX A2000. They're both great. Much as I like the SFF PC, the MT stays cooler and can actually boost to 100%CPU without going over 80c. (No, the SFF will start thermal throttle if running up the cores to 100%. But you'll probably never notice gaming.) Yeah, if paying attention and looking for it both 9020s will "lag spike" every once in a while, loading . . . something or other. Many people might never notice. If I told you you were gaming on my Ryzen 9 PC instead of the Optiplex many people would probably believe it. I've been using the Opti's quite a bit more than my Ryzen 9 because the Optiplexs' are on a large TV. Yeah, these are for chilling out with 8bitdo Pro2 controllers. (Get a8bitdo's branded wireless dongle AND someone else's bluetooth 4.0 dongle. PRESTO. You like more than one wireless controller?) And trusty Logitech k400s. You bet, reclining and gaming is awesome. These Optiplexs' can do more, but ALL I need them to be able to do a solid 1080p 60 FPS. That's what the TV likes, and the Optis' do it well. The i7 4790 makes a difference by the way. Guess what. It boosts and STAYS boosted. (Don't ask me. I thought these had that boost timer nonsense.) Yeah, we'll get back to you one of these days, Ryzen 9. Better posture sitting up at a desk is good, right? I know I'm glad I decided to stick something that can game on the TV! Excuse me while I recline! PC speaker? Nahh. How about Dynaudio speakers on a home stereo. Boom boom!
Found a 9020 in the trash. Added an ssd fired it up and it surprised me. I have an old HP Z440 as well. It goes hard.
Take into consideration how hot it gets where you live. Small case has a horrible ventilation and adding fans pull more dust to the grill that does not have a dust filter. Your choice of video card will be very limited. Measure twice before you purchase your video card. I built and sold entry gaming pc using pre built and it worked well. But nothing beats a glass side panel case, enough fans and a little led/RGB if you can afford it.
How does the dell get less FPS in warzone than me when I have a Rx 470. My CPU is a Ryzen 7 3700x.
I got the i3 as a placeholder for my system upgrade and am very impressed by its performance.
Loved this video. I am looking to replace my old PC. I want a PC I can play WOT on, but I want to spend the least amount of money possible. I don't need amazing graphics, just good graphics, and speed.
Always build your own. Don't let some one else build it for you. I built my own pc with no previous experience and just a few yt videos.
@DOGS LOL I guess I was fortunate then cause I did my research pick correct and premium parts and my build is 100% stable and reliable for all games. I put a r9 5900x with a 3070ti in my build and the parts work well together. I had a few issues and scares here and there but nothing I wasn't able to figure out and fix.
