I have an external hard drive that I wanted to use. I was able to use the AOMEI Partition Assistant to Partition just 32GB by using the Resize/Move Partition feature of the Software. I did this to keep the portion of the drive separate from my firestick drive. Once I created it, I formatted to FAT32 and it worked perfectly after I saved everything.

Fantastic video and presentation Tanya. Found out why the videos were not able to be recognized/transferred onto 1TB Hard Drive....Some of them were up to 16GB in size and FAT32 only recognizes up to 4GB in size....will have to compress some of the videos.

My problem is when it’s time for updates, I’m prompted to do so but am always told I don’t have any room and to update later. Do I need to delete wanted programs? Is there any other remedy? Thanks
Unfortunately, this does appear to be an issue. As far as I am aware there are only 2 choices: 1) Uninstall the app and then re-install the updated app 2) Move the app to your internal storage, update the app and move it back to the external storage. Hey Tanya, thank you so much for your extensive knowledge and for your excellent way of explaining things. I refer to your channel a lot. I have just purchased a 256B Sandisk flash drive 3.1. I went through every step because the first workaround wouldn’t work due to the capacity of the memory 30gb. I downloaded (AOMEI partition’s assistance demo) and followed every instruction as shown in your video and was finally pleased to see FAT32. I was thinking this is great, easy, but as soon as I applied the settings it told me that the “demo version is for evaluation purposes only”. It wants me to “upgrade with a discount” but I was under the impression it was a free application, with a Choice to purchase a premium, but It wasn’t something I felt I needed more than once and I felt I didn’t need to take any further action after formatting my USB memory drive. I got all the way to the end then I got a screen saying I can no longer go any further without agreeing to sign up to it. Can you help me find a work around? Is there an alternative application as I simply want to provide more storage to my fire stick which I’ve stopped using because of the constant interruptions regarding storage. You can also add extra storage by connecting a storage device to the USB port on your router if it has one fitted. If you have more than one Firestick and Android Boxes they can all access this storage without adding storage to each device individually. You can play stored movies using vlc player or open files with es explorer. It might be worth doing video on this Tanya.

Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Everything is working fine except for one problem I hope you have a video on. I can’t seem to get external storage to show up under my fire TV/about/storage. Should I use the ADB video you have? I have a second generation fire stick with software version 5.2.9.0 or do you have a video on how to get the storage to show up under the storage icon. it does show up under the X-plods app.

Hi, I just found your video and it is very helpful. I have the 4k fire stick, and got the toshiba 2T external hard drive with the otg adapter you suggested in the video. i got the hard drive formated to fat32 but when i plug it into my fire stick i can not get the fire stick to turn on it keeps rebooting. When I unplug the hard drive it works normal. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The storage drive could be too large. As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller.
Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports.
You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. I hope this helps.

I have two of the new versions of the os7 firesticks and I have expanded the external storage on both sticks one using a Extreme 1Tb SanDisk SSD portable hard dr. I can't get either units to register any apps transferred to the external storage even with using the ADB Shell . I was able finally to add storage using the SanDisk Extreme SSD 1tb dr.; and by loading the Xplore app I could transfer apps to the usb drive (but when the apps are transferred and deleted from the internal storage it also deletes it from the application interface which creates a problem ), but now my Firestick has spells when it doesn't recognize the presents of a external drive. And do you have a time frame of when you will be putting out a video concerning the os7 version of the new Firesticks? I know it's a lot to take in, but these are some of the things that I encountered by trying to optimize my Firestick.

You can move files to the storage drive using X-plore. Have you formatted the storage to FAT32?

That is correct. You do not need to root the device.
Thanks for the video Tanya. However, I'm having problems with the external hard drive not being detected. I'm using the new 4k firestick, a 2010 256GB Hitachi book external hard drive The external HD has a duel connector, one for power and one for data, and it does light up indicating power. Also using the x-plore app from Amazon. The OTG cable was recently purchased from Amazon (Barcode x002FGZUT). The drive has been reformatted to FAT32 and still not detected.. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Tanya, thanks for the well put together instructions, it was very helpful. I do have a issue though. I installed a 2TB flash drive and I can access it but only the first few videos play A-F titles. I've tried different file managers and they all act the same. On ES file explorer the images will not appear on the folder it's like when it starts up and you see the files or images populate then it gets to a point and stops. Any advice?

@@FireTVSticks Not sure what it is I can show you? The files are there and from the top of the video list I can open the file and the movie will start. But when I get to a certain point on the list it just opens up to a blank screen. Is there a limit to how many video files the firestick can handle?

Hi Tanya, I am using the OTC cable from Amazon, 128gb sandik, and a 4k firestick. When I turn on my firestick it "seems" to be recognized but only reboots over and over. I tried using another 64gb drive and OTC cable with the same results. Both drives have been formatted to fat32. Any suggestions?
Have you tried again after restarting your Firestick? Perhaps you could also try plugging your Firestick into a different HDMI on your TV? No, exFAT is different to FAT32 and is unfortunately not supported by fire sticks currently.

Hey there. I'm hoping you might be able to give me a pointer as to why my SanDisk 32GB Ultra Flair is not being seen by my Fire TV stick 4K. I have checked everything to include having a version 6 OS, I correctly formatted the USB as Fat 32 with default allocation, I correctly attach the USB to my Fire TV stick 4K, I verified the information entered into the ADB shell, and my USB drive is still not seen or recognized. I have watched your video four times. I have used three other OTG cables / adapters. When I enter the IP address into the ADB shell, then follow with the "sm list-disks" command, it only returns the same response prompt, "mantis: /$". There is no info related to an external disk. The "df -h" only returns information on the internal storage. There is nothing to indicate an external USB is attached anywhere.
This USB drive can be read by my laptop and PC, but not by the Fire Stick.
Please, can you tell me why it does not?

Hi Tanya. Your videos are great. But I have a problem attempting to add external storage to my firestick 4K. The firestick will not recognize the storage even though it shows up in X-Plore. I am using an Anntobo OTG adaptor cable and the 256GB SanDisk Ultra Fit 3.1 Flash Drive (formatted to Fat32). I tried every remedy I could find on the internet with no results. This seems to be a common problem and people claim Amazon is now stating that only the Firestick 4K Max will work with external storage. ????
Hi. When you say "The firestick will not recognize the storage even though it shows up in X-Plore" I am not sure that I am understanding your issue correctly sorry.
Your storage is showing in X-plore therefore it must be recognised by the Firestick. You can use this storage to share files with your Firestick using X-plore.
If you want to make this storage system storage so you can add more apps, it is a different process depending on which Fire Operating System (Fire OS) you have.

Fire OS 5: Not possible to increase storage for more apps. But you can still attach storage to share files as above.

Using the 4K Max, on the cable OTG, 1TB external USB drive, a 32GB microsd mounted on a USB microsd adapter. The 1TB and 32GB is mounted on a powered USB hub. I want to restore to factory defaults and start from scratch since trying to install wolf launcher and will not install since no more space even though it says "external storage" 30GB. Before restoring to factory defaults, is there a way to allocate space taken from external storage to internal storage?
Not as far as I know. Once you factory reset, the Firestick will no longer recognise your USBs. You will need to redo the partition.
Can I use an external USB hub & have added external AND internal storage? i.e. 64GB hard drive for internal storage and ALSO 256GB drive for external? Both from a connected hub??? Thank you!

Good evening :) Bought the Firestick TV 4k a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be better to add extra storage now rather than wait till it was needed :) I have tried the ADB route , following the instructions word for word and still , sadly, the usb is not identified/ shown . I tried two devices ssd and usb stick , both FAT32 with no success . Any tips :)
Where is the storage not being shown? If you run an ADB command on Fire OS 6 you will not see the storage in a file explorer app nor within your Fire TV settings. I have a problem getting a folder added on a flash drive using x-plore. I used Aomei to format (fat32) the drives and have tried 3 different ones - all different brands, and I keep getting the same error message - "cannot create directory....". I'm trying to add a folder to the Android folder in the flash drive. The purpose is to have recordings from Tivimate go to this folder. Does anyone have an idea as to what might be wrong? I've been following instructions from videos on making recording on Tivimate.

You and the other people that do these videos were inspiration for me to buy that fire stick I got the third generation though the 1080p One it was only 19 bucks on Amazon but now I'm going to buy a record SD card and thumb drive SanDisk micro SD card and I also love all your free streaming apps you show I finally got that one free stream one working and I found the Roku channel on Amazon fire Stick I plan on buying the Google streaming stick remote control thing for 19 bucks at the end of the month Google TV streaming device with remote for 19 bucks going to buy on Amazon I'm hooked on all these free streaming services down I also sign up for Walmart plus free free delivery service plus Paramount Plus commercial plan included but sadly I had to cancel because no grocery delivery where I live in Seattle Yes I'm stuck with Amazon fresh grocery delivery I love your videos I learn a lot I'm also learning how to fix my PS4 slim it quit working I'm pretty sure because really dirty though I'm just too lazy to clean it but I know once I get working again I'm going to play all this video games I have

Hi Tanya, I have question regarding transferring files to hard drive . Is it only pictures, music and movies only you can transfer or even all apps can transfer totally to hard drive. On your external drive, you can share picture, movies and music etc.
If you want to attach additional storage so that you can use that storage to get more space to install apps, you will need to follow a different process depending on which version of the Fire operating system your device is running on.

Can you or anyone help please? Each time I add the setup of twin cable as per video, also withe the adapter OTG in/out with usb, it recognises the Thumb drive with only WiFi option signal. I Use the Amazon supply, so easy setup with otg out with Ethernet connected, but it will not show Ethernet as an option in FS/Network. Thought it was older 2020 F/stick, unable to update later than 6 now have latest new F/S and update 7. Can you or anyone please confirm if this setup should see the Ethernet on this setup please, or a workable option?🙏

My issue is with KODI build 20.. installs to external storage but writes all its data to internal storage despite my folder directives.. wondering if you know of a fix or have covered this topic? As far as I know, all app data and cache are stored in the internal memory. I recall a workaround, but it requires a lot of steps. Sorry, I do not have a tutorial for this, but you may find the answer on Reddit forums. Again, sorry, I can't help.

Hiya were trying to put a hhd onto my daughters 2nd gen firestick
It shows the hdd is on it but anything transfered to the hdd disapears never to be seen again 🥺 and the hdd keeps resetting itself
Should it have been firmatted to fat32 even though its brand new out the box ?
And once we finally get it to work 🤞🙏 can the apps themselves be moved to the hdd as thats what shes mainly got it for because she has a lot of apps to view films/programes on and dont want to loose any
If the HDD is less than 32 GB, it should be formatted to FAT32 brand new out of the box.
If it is larger than 32 GB, it will be formatted to exFAT out of the box and needs to be formatted manually.
No, it is not possible to move apps to the HDD when using a 2nd Gen Firestick unfortunately. Only newer Firesticks have this capability.

Go into Tivimate Settings and manually specify the location of the recording folder. You can use X-plore to create a folder on your external storage and point Tivimate to that location.

Hello Tanya, I am from India. I am using 2nd Gen Amazon Firestick OS 5.2.7.8. Is is not a 4K firestick stick. It is standard HD one which released in India around 2018 or 2019. Can you please tell me whether I can increase the storage in my device.
Unfortunately, you cannot run the ADB process with a 2nd Gen Firestick or any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system and will not recognise the ADB commands.

If you are looking to upgrade: the 4K Firestick, 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick and the Lite Fire TV Stick are all capable of expanding the storage.

I've no experience using a Mac sorry but you should be able to format the drive to FAT32 by choosing the MS-DOS(FAT) option.

On the 4K Firestick, when you add additional system storage, you will not be able to see the increase in storage space within the Fire TV Settings. if you added storage using the method shown in this video, you will only be able to see your external storage with a file explorer app such as X-plore.

Suppose the application you're using to record allows you to manually specify the location of the recording folder. In that case, you can use X-plore to create a folder on your external storage and point the app to that location.

Hi, was a nice detailed video there. I have trouble with my setup. I bought brand new fireTV 4k + brand new Logitech G F710 gamepad + this same OTG cable. But this setup is not detecting my gamepad in either D or X modes. Any ideas why and what to be done to make my gamepad work?

All other usb pen drives work and detect well with this otg cable. But when i insert the said gamepad's bluetooth dongle, fire tv sick doesnt detect it.
@@hariTheHuman I'm sorry. I have not heard of this particular gamepad being compatible with Fire TV. I would recommend asking Logitech or Amazon support to confirm.

I'm sorry, but it seems like AOMEI Partition Assistant isn't compatible with Chromebooks. You might want to try searching online for free partition software that is compatible with your device.
I purchased the OTG, I have an empty Seagate 500GB Slim Drive formatted at ExFAT and my TV does not have a USB port so I kept the original power cord connected to the OTG. I hooked it up and the FireStick does not recognize the Slim Drive. Suggestions?

Having trouble! I bought the OTG adapter, tried numerous hard drives and flash drives all formatted to fat32 using the 4K MAX fire stick. The external storage doesn’t show at all! Although when I unplug the external storage from adapter a message on the screen says next time go to ‘my tv to unplug the device’ although it doesn’t show.

Hi, new to firestick 4K and new to these IPTV services. I installed ES Explorer and have the OTG and a 32GB sandisk usb drive. sandisk drive is FAT32 but can't see the usb drive in ES Explorer. Is there a way to direct recording through through an app on the firestick directly to the xternal drive rather than moving if after the fact
The app you use to record may have allow you to specify the location of the download folder within the settings. If it does, you should be able to choose a location on your external drive.
Hi Tanya, I’m using firestick 4k running on os 6. The OS 6 device doesn’t recognise the USB and now the adb function is disabled I’m unable to convert usb for internal storage or to change to system storage. This is after storage device has been formatted to fat32. I’ve managed successfully to add the same 64gb drive to a firestick 4k max running on os 7 but I’ve run out of ideas on the 4k running os 6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated 👍👏

So long as you have formatted the drive to FAT32 and you have everything connected correctly, the USB drive should show up when you go into Xplore as shown in this video. This is the only way you will be able to see your storage on the 4K Firestick. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
I've got exactly the same problem. It seems like the OTG cable won't pass the power to two items connected. If you use the genuine ethernet adapter with the micro usb connection if you wire that to get power first the USB port won't work, if you wire the power wire the other way the ethernet adapter won't get power but the USB port will!!
Hi beautiful! Question. I am using a 32 gig flash drive, and all works fine for a while, then my Firestick reboots. It continues to do this repeatedly after a while. I suspect the power plug of 5 watts is not sufficient to keep up with the attached flash drive. I have an Apple power plug at 12 watts and am asking if this will keep the Firestick from rebooting. I have a 3rd generation Firestick not the newer Firestick. Help? Thanks, Tanya. ❤
Yes, it could be an issue with not enough power. Give the other plug a try and see if this helps.
