I tried your instructions step by step and out of three power adapters including one Mission power adapter; one lasted 24 hrs before it lost the connection and the other two didn't last four hours. I will admit that I was pleased with the speed and performance at first. But why they wouldn't work beats me. My setup is 1) 2 tb ssd dr., 1) OTG ADAPTER, 1) 4K MAX FIRESTICK, and 1) USB 3-3.0 HUB with an ETHERNET connection. I had planned to setup my Cube but that will have to wait until I find out what is the problem. Thanks for your postings they have been most helpful.
You didn't use the recommended drive. Not all work. Also the mission cable MUST be charged for 10 min prior to first use. It says so right on the cord tag. Did you do this?

I did the setup step by step as you advised but the extra storage isn’t showing up. I used the Seagate Portable 2TB External Hard Drive HDD - USB 3.0. Not sure what I’m not doing right. The firestick is powered and connected but doesn’t show the external drive.

Quick question.. why would you need 2 TB on a firestick? Is it for the ability to add a lot more apps? I have used firesticks for years and never felt like I needed that much storage... I am really just curious if I am missing something....
2TB is the extreme. Just showing what it's capable of. You could spend $6 and get a 64gb drive and be fine. Yes on the apps, but some need more for dvr feature. You can record live tv direct to the drive. Comes in handy for sports. It's a free feature we talk about and have helped people with
I had messaged you earlier stating that I bought all the accessories exactly as you recommended and I could not get apps to the 2TB drive. The stick showed the storage was there. The mistake I made was to add a USB extension cord from the Hub to the firestick OTG adapter so I could access the USB hub from the front of the TV. It wouldn’t work. I took the extension out and it worked as your video suggested. Why would that be do you think?

2TB is the max, however it will only work if you have a powered mission cable. The current power cord that comes with the drive likely wont support the power draw and will cause a "boot loop" which can damage your stick

We can't give those details for PVR DVR per youtube rules. That's why we mentioned patreon where there are no limits and we help people all the time. We gave just enough info on this video to keep it on here. Yes you can install apps on it as we do it on our FULL upgrade video (not this one) and yes you can set up a DVR option (we have the video on patreon).. I follow them step by step and they all work One thing I was wondering, could you put out a list or a rule as to the apps that Firestick won't allowed to be moved to external storage. Like youtubetv and tubi? This way we won't go bonkers wondering what we are doing wrong.
I guess this works for the majority of your viewers, but it didn't work for me. I did everything according to your instructions but my Firestick Max settings say "No USB Storage Detected" (this is in the Fire TV section, in "About", and then in "Storage" - there's no direct "USB Drive" item in the main menu as in your video). Everything else works and my external HD has power going to it. Any thoughts?
Did you watch our troubleshooting video? Could be the file format of your drive isn't compatible. Format to fat32 and it should work fine. If you got the seagate slim one touch it comes with the correct file format. Not all drives do

Although the Mission/other USB cords is a good concept to reduce wires and clutter. The downside is that Fire TV has to boot every time and VPNs need to be restarted. If the original power cord is used, Fire TV launches immediately and the VPN if previously loaded is still active.
This is not a downside. You are leaving your stick on at all times and the vpn is only on that stick. The way to go is to add the vpn to your router to cover all devices and continue turning off your firestick
Is this additional storage restricted to merely storing your own data such as videos etc.. or does the additional storage integrate with the firestick OS itself, and thus allow you to install APPS on the additional storage, and also have those apps use the additional storage for cache?

Did pre-charge the mission cable for 10min? Did you use the recommended drive? Sounds like you aren’t getting the power. Watch our troubleshooting video we did. Might be a small step to fix it
I followed the instructions and even turned off debugging and extenal storage is not being recognized. I read on an Amazon thread they disabled that capability. Is this true and is there a workaround?
For the ethernet usb hub do I need one with the option to run a power adapter to it? Or will it gain enough power from the USB power adapter that is connected to the Fire Stick?
If your cube is still working fine, then keep it. it does things that the stick does not do (control your tv functions with voice and a few others). It also comes standard with more storage. Yours was released in 2018, the max was 2022. So you are getting a better processor in the new stick and expansion capabilities. But that's about it. Enjoy your cube. I just got the newest cube. It's even better.
Hey Bro, it's not as simple as you explain it. You download apps that get installed on external storage, but after installation, the data is stored on the Fire Stick TV. This makes it impossible to play games or download, install, and use many apps. Or did I do something wrong? Please, answer me. Thank you
Yep, missing a step. You can set the directory for your app data. All depends on the app in question. Example tivimate when setting a recording, you have to set the location. Super easy. You know where to find us for support (link in the description)
Problems!! I am following the You Tube video “INSANE 2TB FIRESTICK 4K MAX - HOW TO EXPAND STORAGE” and when I got to the part about adding the 2gb drive to the mix it all went south. I plugged the Seagate 2TB drive into the OTG adapter the light on the drive came on but nothing else happened. The screen never changed to the instructions to do the formatting. I’m not exactly sure what equipment you’re using. But it’s possible that your power source is not supporting the USB drive, you can try a smaller drive or use the mission power cable that we did a review one not too long ago
I got all the hardware you recommended, put it together but it did NOT recognize the external storage device, it did not ask me to format the drive. Got OS 7 software. Any clue as to what went wrong

Hello friend. I have a question about the storage unit. I have a fire stick 4k Max with a WD Passport 2 TB external hard drive connected but it says cannot format due to unsupported filing system. I'm letting my firestick load before connecting but I get the same result. Am I doing something wrong? Got all new hard drive, hooked it all up just like you said. Had it format for device storage, it was formatting. Then it asked one more time if I’d like to format for device storage. Told it yes. It went immediately back to format external, device or no thanks. Since I had already formatted I said “no thanks”. Went to manage applications and no extra storage. Took it all apart three more times. It never asked me again where I would like to add storage. Just goes back to regular home page. HELP
We travel in a Motorhome that we use but don't enjoy great WiFi when out and about a few times per year. Would this help me 'playback' 'recorded' Movies on our Motorhome TV without the need to 'Stream'. Bought the drive and cables shown in links. Followed directions step by step. Fire stick read the drive and asked how to format. Selected device storage. Drive was formatted. But doesn’t show up in storage. Running fire OS update as of today.
I did this set up, and it briefly worked great! This morning, the ethernet option stopped working, and it no longer appears in network settings even when disconnecting wi-fi. Do I need to reset to factory settings and start over? Thanks!

No, if you look at the tag on the cord, it says to charge it for 10 minutes prior to first use. The usb port does not give enough power. That's the reason for the cord. Please look at the mission cord and you will see the tag. It's extremely important.
I charged the mission adapter, and reconnected all devices as instructed. The ethernet option is not available in the network settings, even when I turn off the wi-fi. USB isn't listed for additional storage either. I will re-watch your video before resetting to factory defaults and starting over.

While using the Xfinity App, is there a remote I can buy that I can directly type the channel in and it go to that channel? For example, if I'm on channel 42 and I want to go to channel 128, is there a remote I can type 128 and it go there without me having to scroll down all the channels?
I just purchased a 4K max to replace a 4K, it was on sale,. The set up went well until I attached external memory stick, firestick wanted to format the stick. How can I get around this? I don’t want to loose apps and shows I have saved.

That I'm not sure. You have everything on your memory stick? That many apps and downloads? Maybe keep both sticks for different tvs then and use a different memory stick. I've switched drives between sticks before without any issues. Perhaps you have different OS on your sticks. Sorry, wish I could help more
Alot of apps Like Netflix won't install in flash drive. Is there a way to force apps like Netflix to install on flash drive. Other apps like paramount do install on flash drive.
thanks for the video, the 2 terabytes external hard drive came formatted as Ex fat, firestick does not read ex-fat only Fat32 how did you do. I understand you need to convert the 2 terabytes drive to Fat32 in order to us in the firestick?

Will the hard drive work for a Toshiba Fire TV as well? I have 2 of them but the storage is pretty low. I’m forced to use Hulu, Netflix and HBO Max through my cable provider and directly from the TV.

Love your channel.. I am an advanced firestick user and have had a firestick 4k max since it came out. . I have an older 4k firestick before that with extra storage using third party apps and command line script. I have a 128gb flash drive hook up the same way you describe with OTG adapter. I have a ton of apps installed. I have my 128gb flash drive formated as internal storage just as you have your ssd 2tb. With formated this way it can only be used by the firestick and not able to be used on other devices. But firestick still shows as External storage and firestick internal storage still shows space as being 8gb with lil over 5gb available. Not 5:32 all apps install to the external drive unless developer put support for it. But there are work around with again 3rd party apps or command line script. But as you know doing so still causes you real 4( max still still goes down some with each app unless developer of app supports it. I think. So how can someone fix this and add to extra storage without lil by lil being taken away ftom actual firestick 4k max storage. As in the case of Happy chick I have tons installed without it taking away from 4k max as long as app was installed first to external storage or moved. I tried all methods without any luck am I missing something. If so what? Thanks!
I don’t mean to sound ungrateful but why would you need 2tb of storage on a streaming stick? When Amazon themselves recommend 128gb. Still a very informative and helpful video
It's a good question. We actually answer it in the video following this one where we show you how to set it up on the firestick. Many people cancel cable when using a firestick and dvr content directly to the external drive to watch later (similar to what you do with cable tv). Except it's free on the firestick saving hundreds a month. Can't do it without large storage.
If you want to install more apps that your stick can handle, or if you want to DVR live tv to watch later or bring with you and plug into other devices (back and forth). Most people use tivimate to record sporting events when they can't watch it.
4:35 - Do we know if this power setup works on old sets? I have a set from 2012 and I found the usb would not supply sufficient power to run the fire stick when I initially installed it in 2019.
Can this be used with the fire cube? And will this allow me to use links with with higher MB or GB? At this time it seems that all I can get are larger links and they are continuously buffering.
Unfortunately this will not solve your buffering issue. We have videos that can help with that. Adding storage doesn't help. I would suggest looking more into what streaming services you are using.
Yes and this will ALWAYS buffer. It's an overpopulated hack app that gets people free content. There are other options out there that won't buffer. We share them on patreon (can't on youtube anymore per their rules)

I am having some difficulity with my seagate drive this is the second one I've troed. They both worked fine for about 2 hours and I get a message "no signal found and the drive starts beeping. I ran both drives with the power booster.
Did you charge the booster for 10 min prior to first use as on the instructions? Does your tv usb not provide power if your tv is off? Scenarios are different for different TVs. Those are my two questions cause your stick is not getting enough power and if the drive is beeping, it isn't either

Just reaching out, as after I added the 2 TB Seagate (Seagate One Touch 2TB External Hard Drive HDD - Silver USB 3.0 for PC Laptop and Mac, 1 year MylioCreate, 4 Months Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan (STKB2000401)) and after about a day the external drive started beeping and would not boot again. I had already transferred the games downloaded (lost) and can only run the setup without the 2TB drive. Is there a current limiting factor that this drive pulls on the OTG? What is the next best thing if it is not the 2TB Seagate? Please advise. Also, if a thumb drive is used why not use the 128GB instead of the 64GB recommended?

I’m not really sure why. Sometimes too many accessories can cause issues.

Did pre-charge the mission cable for 10min? Did you use the recommended drive? Sounds like you aren’t getting the power. Watch our troubleshooting video we did. Might be a small step to fix it

I followed the instructions and even turned off debugging and extenal storage is not being recognized. I read on an Amazon thread they disabled that capability. Is this true and is there a workaround?
You can still add storage. Common mnistakes keep happening so we did a simple troubleshooting video on the channel. I would watch that.
For the ethernet usb hub do I need one with the option to run a power adapter to it? Or will it gain enough power from the USB power adapter that is connected to the Fire Stick?
Depends on your tv usb. Mission power cable we linked is usually good enough

If your cube is still working fine, then keep it. it does things that the stick does not do (control your tv functions with voice and a few others). It also comes standard with more storage. Yours was released in 2018, the max was 2022. So you are getting a better processor in the new stick and expansion capabilities. But that's about it. Enjoy your cube. I just got the newest cube. It's even better.

Hey Bro, it's not as simple as you explain it. You download apps that get installed on external storage, but after installation, the data is stored on the Fire Stick TV. This makes it impossible to play games or download, install, and use many apps.

Yep, missing a step. You can set the directory for your app data. All depends on the app in question. Example tivimate when setting a recording, you have to set the location. Super easy. You know where to find us for support (link in the description)
Problems!! I am following the You Tube video “INSANE 2TB FIRESTICK 4K MAX - HOW TO EXPAND STORAGE” and when I got to the part about adding the 2gb drive to the mix it all went south.
I plugged the Seagate 2TB drive into the OTG adapter the light on the drive came on but nothing else happened. The screen never changed to the instructions to do the formatting.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

I’m not exactly sure what equipment you’re using. But it’s possible that your power source is not supporting the USB drive, you can try a smaller drive or use the mission power cable that we did a review one not too long ago

Hello friend. I have a question about the storage unit. I have a fire stick 4k Max with a WD Passport 2 TB external hard drive connected but it says cannot format due to unsupported filing system. I'm letting my firestick load before connecting but I get the same result. Am I doing something wrong? Setup is awesome only drawback is the USB hub only allows 100mbps max.....wirelessy I get almost 300mbps. Still awesome setup
Yeah, limitation is annoying, but keep in mind 100mbps stable is usually better than wifi 300 due to signal stability and drops.
Got all new hard drive, hooked it all up just like you said. Had it format for device storage, it was formatting. Then it asked one more time if I’d like to format for device storage. Told it yes. It went immediately back to format external, device or no thanks. Since I had already formatted I said “no thanks”. Went to manage applications and no extra storage. Took it all apart three more times. It never asked me again where I would like to add storage. Just goes back to regular home page. HELP
Sounds like not a compatible format drive. Did you use the one we linked in the description section? That's the biggest mistake people make
We travel in a Motorhome that we use but don't enjoy great WiFi when out and about a few times per year. Would this help me 'playback' 'recorded' Movies on our Motorhome TV without the need to 'Stream'. Bought the drive and cables shown in links. Followed directions step by step. Fire stick read the drive and asked how to format. Selected device storage. Drive was formatted. But doesn’t show up in storage. Running fire OS update as of today.

No, if you look at the tag on the cord, it says to charge it for 10 minutes prior to first use. The usb port does not give enough power. That's the reason for the cord. Please look at the mission cord and you will see the tag. It's extremely important.
Charge it with any usb power on your power strip or use a block to charge it up before it's first use
I charged the mission adapter, and reconnected all devices as instructed. The ethernet option is not available in the network settings, even when I turn off the wi-fi. USB isn't listed for additional storage either. I will re-watch your video before resetting to factory defaults and starting over.

Yep, both the cube and the 4k max have reached 2GB. Not the others.

I don't use the xfinity app. However there are keyboard remotes I've reviewed on the channel that will do this

You have to format the external storage device to use it. It doesn't format your firestick, just the drive

That I'm not sure. You have everything on your memory stick? That many apps and downloads? Maybe keep both sticks for different tvs then and use a different memory stick. I've switched drives between sticks before without any issues. Perhaps you have different OS on your sticks. Sorry, wish I could help more
Alot of apps Like Netflix won't install in flash drive. Is there a way to force apps like Netflix to install on flash drive. Other apps like paramount do install on flash drive.

why would you have extra storage on a firestick?
1. never enough
2. many use an iptv and dvr tv (eliminating cable bills)
3. those that run kodi will need the space
4. The stick doesn't give much, and people are tired of clearing cache to free space

Love your channel.. I am an advanced firestick user and have had a firestick 4k max since it came out. . I have an older 4k firestick before that with extra storage using third party apps and command line script. I have a 128gb flash drive hook up the same way you describe with OTG adapter. I have a ton of apps installed. I have my 128gb flash drive formated as internal storage just as you have your ssd 2tb. With formated this way it can only be used by the firestick and not able to be used on other devices. But firestick still shows as External storage and firestick internal storage still shows space as being 8gb with lil over 5gb available. Not 5:32 all apps install to the external drive unless developer put support for it. But there are work around with again 3rd party apps or command line script. But as you know doing so still causes you real 4( max still still goes down some with each app unless developer of app supports it. I think. So how can someone fix this and add to extra storage without lil by lil being taken away ftom actual firestick 4k max storage. As in the case of Happy chick I have tons installed without it taking away from 4k max as long as app was installed first to external storage or moved. I tried all methods without any luck am I missing something. If so what? Thanks!

It's a good question. We actually answer it in the video following this one where we show you how to set it up on the firestick. Many people cancel cable when using a firestick and dvr content directly to the external drive to watch later (similar to what you do with cable tv). Except it's free on the firestick saving hundreds a month. Can't do it without large storage.

If you want to install more apps that your stick can handle, or if you want to DVR live tv to watch later or bring with you and plug into other devices (back and forth). Most people use tivimate to record sporting events when they can't watch it.

Unfortunately this will not solve your buffering issue. We have videos that can help with that. Adding storage doesn't help. I would suggest looking more into what streaming services you are using.

Yes and this will ALWAYS buffer. It's an overpopulated hack app that gets people free content. There are other options out there that won't buffer. We share them on patreon (can't on youtube anymore per their rules)

I am having some difficulity with my seagate drive this is the second one I've troed. They both worked fine for about 2 hours and I get a message "no signal found and the drive starts beeping. I ran both drives with the power booster.
Did you charge the booster for 10 min prior to first use as on the instructions? Does your tv usb not provide power if your tv is off? Scenarios are different for different TVs. Those are my two questions cause your stick is not getting enough power and if the drive is beeping, it isn't either

Sounds like either a power draw issue from your hard drive, or you need a powered hub. Do you have the same equipment I have in this video?

This setup powers the hub and the cable is only $21. If you get the exact equipment we show, it will work fine
Just reaching out, as after I added the 2 TB Seagate (Seagate One Touch 2TB External Hard Drive HDD - Silver USB 3.0 for PC Laptop and Mac, 1 year MylioCreate, 4 Months Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan (STKB2000401)) and after about a day the external drive started beeping and would not boot again. I had already transferred the games downloaded (lost) and can only run the setup without the 2TB drive. Is there a current limiting factor that this drive pulls on the OTG? What is the next best thing if it is not the 2TB Seagate? Please advise. Also, if a thumb drive is used why not use the 128GB instead of the 64GB recommended?
