Based on so many other "100 years of Beauty" videos, almost every country end up having the same look in the 2010s!! That is, long wavy hair.
True that
American and Chinese beauty are kinda alike, except that the American hairstyle is more wavy than the Chinese style.
Afro-American beauty has a twisted bob hairstyle and Japanese beauty has bangs.
Yup and a center part. It's pretty much the standard hairstyle today

1910-1980's - Distinctive hairstyles that can easily identify the era they came from.
1990-present - Meh. Long generic hair. No effort made to look distinctive.
I wonder if the internet is to blame for this. Without TV (the big three channels) and movies shaping public perceptions of what's cool and fashionable and everyone off in their own little niches of interest, a distinctive "look" never really develops. You have occasional things like "Grunge" with its flannel shirts and stuff like that (usually based on music subcultures), but never really anything that embodies the zeitgeist of an era.
I guess you can say, styles exploded in all directions since the 90's and nobody cared for any particular style, people went 'cross-over' (started in the 60-70 going what they called style 'rages', you know follow the group-thing ...
90s onward is better preserved thanks to digital media. you end up with a blur of several decades that doesn't look or sound old
also the inernet is shrinking the world, a new trend can be spotted and worn out within a season
Well you can easily say that between the 1910's & 1980's, each decade had its own distinctive style. However, there wasn't much distinction between the people in those days. People in the 80's looked "80's". Many wore similar clothes and displayed similar hairstyles. In the 2000's we lacked that kind of uniformity and that's a postive evolution. Styles came and went with the wind. It enabled people to do their own thing. Now we're nearly in the 5th year of the 2010's, I'm sensing a tendency to uniformity once more and it's an awesome hybrid one.
also the 2000s weren't that long ago, and the future (late 2020s or so) hasn't happened yet. we need more time to look back on the 2000s and 2010s and say, "what the hell were we thinking??"
´We don't need distinctive hairstyles and the like...

Out of all of these, I honestly love the 1910 look. The really early half of the 20th century is so overlooked and underrated!! I love the simple, clean, natural makeup and the long flowing hair. It radiates with such an ethereal, almost surreal beauty that gets bogged down later in the century with harsher makeup and more hairstyling. That look still holds up today.
Yea same here, out of all the, the 1910 looked much better in my eyes.
This video is GENIUS. Not only incredibly interesting, but educational too, and puts a lot of perspective on (female) fashions throughout history. The elegantly coiffed hairstyles of the 1910s were still influenced from pre-1900 Victorian asceticism. The conservatism also shines through in her pose and restrained facial expressions. The 1920s to the 1950s hairstyles are my favorites -- so glamorous, sexy, and confident. The "femme fatale" and Film Noir era. Then comes the 1960s and 1970s, with looser, more unkempt hairstyles reflecting the changing societal attitude of the "free love" era, also marking a new cultural shift in casualness of dress. The 1980s were all about big hair, mullets, and shock goth. The 1990s toned in down with straightened hair, eyeliner and grunge. The 2000-2010 decade was full of emo kids. Ugh. Then came 2010 and almost every woman I see has the curled long hair look. The evolution is interesting indeed.
vanizorc Well said.
***** How does Nina feel about being viewed over 21 million times and growing?
Except me, I hate that the majority of women are so involved into their looks. Yes I might put on a little eyeliner and a tad of mascara but I don't devote hours into my face and cake it up with make up. Our generation seems to be the most failing one and the more we advance the worst we get. Whats the big deal of wearing makeup that people barely glance at and then removing it the following night and having to do it yet again wasting money and your beauty. It's truly terrifying what we've become, no amount of discoveries can cover the failure that most of us are now.
Killer_kitty-446 I'm also a woman who usually doesn't wear makeup at all. I just see it as pointless and a waste of money too. The only time I really wear stuff like foundation, etc... is when I'm attending formal events like weddings or something. I do sometimes wear a little bit of eyeliner and facial moisturizer though, but that's really the extent of my habits. Eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise is enough to make one look good. Still, it is a pleasure to see how fashions and cultural outlooks have changed and evolved over the decades.
Killer_kitty-446 Women have always cared a lot about their looks. Makeup isn't something that is specific to "our generation." Women were caking on kohl and white powder that ended up ruining their skin a hundred years ago, so if you look at what kinds of makeup women are wearing today, in some cases it is actually quite tame. Your comment sounds a little childish to be honest.
That is SO true. I am a boy and I'm 14. I hate the way girls are in my class. And even just around me. It's all about being "Pretty". Making selfies with always the same fucked up face. And then put a filter over it, to hide themselves in a cloak of vane. Wishing so much that they can be like the celebrities that don't give a fuck about them. And it's happening younger and younger now. I saw an 8 year old girl with loads of make-up on her face. Super exposed clothes. And a phone, listening to Ariana Grande. It made me want to vomit. What has hapened to the generation i live in. It's so unfair! Why do you guys get a cool generation, and us decent folke stuck with this SHIT! Seriously, I genuinely want to know why. Parents should do something about this. They shouldn't give a FRECKING 8 YEAR OLD A PHONE! What world do we live in where this is acceptable. I'm done for today. If we do not stop this it will spread and spread and spread. We need to work together to stop this filthy, DISGUSTING pile of shit some people call a generation.
My 8 year old cousin has a phone
Zara Izwan A smart phone?
Yup
Zara Izwan Her parents should go to jail.
That escalated quickly.
She's an amazing model, bringing personality and contextually suitable emotions to each style. I remember someone telling me once that good modelling is very much good acting.
What's most disturbing is the difference make-up makes. We don't even know how women look nowadays! We never see them without make up! I'd rather we had a world free of make-up and full of less pretty women, than a world full of make-up and deceiving appearance.
you're so stupid, omg, women who wear hardcore all-face-all-contour make up are veeeeeeeery few. Go outside, breath some fresh air. Start looking at the women you see in the real world and less on the internet
First off, im a girl and the only make up i wear is lipstick. My friends are pretty lazy too and when we wear -too much- make up is mascara and lipstick so stop being an idiot and embarrassing yourself.
Aleksandar Dzever and I do see more women than you do every year so i know what im talking about. Besides, if you honestly think people can have total doll faces and then get dissapointed when you notice its make up, then you're the stupid one

+Conner K Ward well considering women started to actually work and didn't just spend all day doing their hair, I would hardly call it "lazier".
Trevor makes a really good point, and that modern makeup is not easy! Try spending 30 minutes on your hair, and 15 on your makeup every morning like that. That's 45 minutes, or over 12 days of just getting ready per year. That doesn't even include the outfit...
There's a reason I don't wear the stuff haha.

I think her hair in 1920 it soo cute, and I really love that lips, but im too lazy and its kinda weird.
Yeah, 1910 is nice aswell.
Maroa Gamboni yeah, it's kind of cute, I guess I don't like it because it's the complete oposite of me, so I can be a little biased. The lipstick doesn't comlpete the lips, it's smaller... Girls in 1910 were much more beautiful than they are today. There was actual natural beauty back then. What happened?
Well, that was one of the haircuts MODELS had... Not the common women.
Remember, during that time, there was an industrial revolution in North America, so women did not have time to have fancy haircuts. Plus, they had a family to take care of.

Yeah, but Grunge is over now. 2010s decade finally had its own identity coz most people include 2010s in 2000s. 2010s is different. With dresses instead of spaghetti strap blouses colorful shorts instead of baggy shorts, and tight pants instead of baggy pants.

I don't hate on everything modern. I was commenting on women's hairstyles. That's a very specific thing (far from everything modern). And yes, I do like the 20's and 30's hairstyles better. Although my favorites would be the the 40's, 50's, and 80's.
Everything after the 80s was normal*
+Lego Fan LMAO COMMENT OF THE YEAR!!!! XD
+Stefan Homberger You do realise that the hairstyles are very emphasised and not everyone had that hairstyle and usually they would just wear a plain style. I'd say the 80s is the only decade where most of the people wore the hairstyle that was shown and tbh we actually have better creativity with make-up. It's not just the same smokey eye and red lip combo anymore.
I want Karolina Żebrowska to roast this 'til they hire real vintage hairstylists 😉
Annie Gans yesss
Oh yes! I died inside when I saw the 40s especially. The holes in the victory rolls! Aaaargh!
If they had someone with even a tiny skerrick of knowledge of the subject, they wouldn’t have turned out that abomination! I think the only decent ones are the 70, and 90s onward. The 80s was stereotypical, but okay I guess. Very costume-y though.
But everything else was just awful. How they can put this video out claiming to show what hair accurately looked like without their pants spontaneously combusting is beyond me.
Shallow
she made a video about them already, you should have a look
Meanwhile i commented that its not an accurate depiction and got flipped out on 🤦♀️
1950 and 1970 are the best... it's my opinion
+Oliwia Jakobczyk Yeah, I liked the 30s and 40s as well.
her skin is so white.
like a pure soul.
40's and 50's. Damn, I was born in the wrong generation.
TheKeisari Landie Votball SAME HERE
Lol >u
TheKeisari I know these haircuts are aweful.
TheKeisari better call saul
What about equal rights man!
the 50s seems like the best age for beauty. it was right in the middle, balanced. just seductive enough with just the right amount of elegance. in fact, all of the years up to the 50s and even the 60s was amazing. it seems that makeup USED to be about self expression, but now that fact seems to have been lost in recent years if not among most women, but the general public as well.
I'm kinda confused...how was makeup about self expression back then if everyone tried to follow the same trend a la Marilyn Monroe? I personally think in modern times, women are expressing their preferences more as some like to pack it on while others don't and some like gothic while others channel the 50's
***** I agree with that side too. I guess my main point is just how shady the makeup industry has become lately. Perhaps it was always this way and im only assuming that it's worse than it used to be. plus, my preference was of the 50s look. As I said, i think it was the goldylocks age of makeup.
Although I do agree with some points in your argument, makeup and beauty being considered an artistic way of self expression is still strong even to this day. There are two sides to beauty in this age. The first is vanity, to make yourself look and feel more beautiful with makeup on and attract others. Then there's the artistic side, where people like to use makeup as a fun hobby and express themselves. As a cosplayer, I've seen the "extreme" side of the expressive makeup, probably some makeup styles and techniques that would make Michelle Phan look like an amateur (don't get me wrong, it's just an expression). An example would be Anastaysia Shpagina, also known as the "real life anime girl" who loves makeup transformations and expressing her love for fantasy and magic through her cosmetics. So you see, there are still a large community of people who still use makeup as self expression and artistic purposes, but it's just different from back in the older days and evolved into two extremes.
No. Makeup didn't used to be about self-expression. It used to be about conformity.
***** I saw an interesting documentary on this.... on Elisabeth Arden.... and you would be surprised by the fact that the makeup before her used to be harmful.... now, it is at least safe to use.... but I still do not understand your point about today.... plus, back in the 1950s-later, makeup was not accessible to everyone - maybe in the US.... but not in Europe.... my grandmother, and later mother, could not wear it in public.... if a teacher caught you wearing makeup, for example - and back then, it was the kind that would be obvious, unlike today - you would have to wash your face in front of the whole class... with soap.... ouch.... for women today, it is a way to keep your skin healthy as well, as many products have UV / cold / protection, hydration effects, etc. So, please, explain to me, what you meant by what is wrong about today because you never expressely explained that.... and btw, I also found the 1950s in this video to be most charming, but remember, the makeup today and back then was different.....
i like 1950s
Same
***** all the way
Chuck Onthis umm ok.
***** pretty much 100 years of beauty videos have a nice 1950 look

Morena Bacarin
1910: Relatively normal. Nothing to say.
1920: Really good mostly because of the idea of women having shorter hair was a novelty and changed our society.
1930: Pretty similar to the 20s but it unfortunately gives me flashbacks to how depressing the US was.
1940: Wtf. Who actually thinks that's a good hair style. War scarrings too.
1950: Absolutely gorgeous. Marilyn Monroe's hair style is truly one of a kind.
1960: Really good also. I love the hair on top.
1970: Normal also.
1980: Wtf. But at least the 80s era was supposed to be crazy so I'll give that a break.
1990: Normal except there is a TON of makeup which kinda takes away natural beauty.
2000: Pretty much the 90s one but more natural. Looks like every 2000s pop singer just like Spears and Lavigne.
2010: Pretty much the same as today. Similar to the 70s except the hair is more locked in.
Please take this comment with a grain of salt. Even if I don't like your hair style, you're still beautiful just the way you are. It's your hair and you can do whatever you want with it. The same applies to the quantity of makeup. But honestly, people look better when they're natural, so you should feel more proud of your existing look.
Have a nice day.
40s looks so ugly because they did it badly this loops/curls she has on top of her head are called victory rolls and you are not supposed to be able to look thru them are supposed to be right smaller curls just look up some photos and you'll get how bad they butchered it.
I'm a girl but I'm so in love with her. Her smile is so bright! It can totally lighten up my day!
So basically the 2010's is the same as the 70's except with selfies and obnoxious facial expressions... Great.
They weren't nearly the same
yep
2010's style is very much similiar to 1970's style. It can be seen the men's hair video too
@@strangething7379
To you it is, but the fact is that "very" isn't even right. They look almost the same.
She looks like Gal Gadot. (Wonder woman, also the girl from fast and furious )
Orbsadorbs F. I was hoping someone else thought that lol thanks
A woman from USA whose name is Nina is really beautiful. : )
Her looks = 100 percent awesome.
ME : I say, heck she is fabulous. 😍
So I'm seeing a few people saying we need less makeup in general so we get a better perception of 'natural' beauty in women. While that's not wrong, there's nothing wrong with wanting to beautiful. You should always feel good about your appearance, and part of that is simply caring for yourself. Eating well, exercising... and as long as you don't *need* the makeup to feel good about yourself, I say go for it!
More to the point, this doesn't just apply to women. Why can't men wear makeup? I put on a little concealer every now and then to smooth out my skin. It's good stuff.
this woman reminds me a lot of Snow White especially whenever she has a red lip
Violin pixch She reminds you of Snow White? Like Disney's Snow White? If you watched the 100 Years of Beauty Taiwan, you'll see who else reminds you of Snow White.
You mean from The Wolf Among Us?
50's-70's , yes. Just, yes.
exactly my thoughts
It passed 100 years and she still looks pretty
What did people smoke in the 80s? the fashion taste is absolutely horrible lol
Terrible fashion, epic music
They smoked pretty much everything back then.
nah the 70s is the worst for fashion in my honest humble opinion.
took us 30 years, but we've reached the level of embarrassingly hideous fashion that was last seen in the 80s
Crack.
1930's and 1970's without a doubt.
Yes
I love the 30s.

I love 70s
I came to see this video because I thought she was Gal Gadot. This woman look so much like Gal. I'm so jealous of her right now.
Whoa the 1910's is so simple and beautiful 💕
Love from India🇮🇳
All before the 60s were my favorites bc I always prefer vintage. As in, vintage vintage.❤
Lily Alexander b.
I agree. Everything was so chic!
I totally agree,vintage is amazing!
yea i agree
vintage vintage didn’t use smartphones lol
What a great job with the video and history lesson, and such a beautiful model. I like the way you briefly captured the behavior of a typical woman, characteristic of each period. The behavior of the 80's and 90's almost had a humorous side to it. Nicely done.
*****
Oh, I didn't mean to leave out the make-up artists, they really had their work cut out for them. A lot of research went into this production.
I agree...
Hands down to 70s. She slays at 0:46.
Love that little Marilyn Monroe vibe💋
from the 90s to now it pretty much looks the same. kinda crazy how all the styles of the decades in the 1900s were vastly different until the 90s hit
well, the 20s and 30s were fairly similar but ... yea, we need some new styles
Well that's because now women work more, so we don't have time to do that crazy haristyle EVERY FUCKING MORNING. LOL.
***** me too. I think it looks better if you actually straighten your hair or curl your hair. People with "straight" hair don't always have it perfectly straight and it just doesn't look right. But I do agree with previous commenter... I think it's bc everybody is working so much now and probably too tired to get ready like that.
2010 she should have ombre hair extensions or something. or color the tips pink or green. lol. I feel like the 2010s was generic and not well thought out but the rest I enjoyed and represented the decades that she was supposed to be from.
The fact that you found it generic goes to show that we all live in the 2010s. I think that's what they were aiming for. If they did so happen to use the look; the pink or green coloured ends, it would have been more of a teenagers look. But I think they were trying to -generalise- the look of the entire female population ageing from 18-45 in the 2010s, so we weren't shocked/surprised about how our current era actually looked.
Mitchell Scholte
but her style i the 2010s was used in the 2000s and 90s and even 80s. just part down the middle and blow dry. I feel like it should be more distinguishable.
mosse matters i have to say i disagree, when i watched this i remarked to myself how perfect the representation of the 2010's was.
Maybe because we ARE in that decade and there's not really a defined style or looks yet?
T3MP0
we are half way through.
The girl is so beautiful
Wow she is stunning. She can fill any role!!!
