EXCELLENT REVIEW of RANGER in the MUD. TFL OFF ROAD puts it to the OFF ROAD CHALLENGE of the FORD RANGER.I was CURIOUS to see how THE FX4-OFF ROAD PACKAGE handle MUD and DEEP SNOW, IN THE event i find myself in a situation that calls for me to use it. The TRUTH is that it's NOT as CAPABLE as the ZR2, or TACOMA TRD-OFF ROAD (but, the REALITY is the FORD RANGER still CAN GO WHERE THEY CAN GO excluding the JEEP GLADIATOR BUT, THEN AGAIN THE GLADIATOR COST MORE.
The ranger is a nice truck. I have the 2013 " budget" ranger. Single cab 2.2liters with only 120 hp. But it is definitively good in any situation. I have street tires with the mud + snow mark. I just have to swich on the 4L mode and if gets out off every muddy terrain. I love it
My Frontier has Dynapro ATM tires. I've been on some very rough snowmobile and ATV trails this summer. Steep hills with lots of loose rock, and a few muddy areas. The grip going uphill is amazing. But, I still don't think I'd run them in Moab. The rocks there are razor sharp.
I have a 19 Ranger with the same BB licence plate, not that many numbers away, funny. Just love my truck. Put a Bully Dog on it and with good fuel and the 93 tune its a monster sleeper. 0-100km/hr in 5.5 seconds. It eats all the other mid-sized truck with the stock tune. Nice to see the mud performance, I haven't had opportunity to try it out.
This is the Ranger test I've been waiting for!! Thank you! P.S......you guys who want a Ranger Raptor. Why?!. If you're doing more than this in a factory pickup truck, buy this guy's tractor!!
If I remeber correctly, this is the same track when you test the Nissan Titan pick up., where in its stock on that mud part. Great video as always Bro.. can't wait to see the new Bronco in action.
If the ranger was at the level of those other trucks it would cost as much as 20k more. You can get FX4 on the base models for just around I think 2-3k Canadian. Which puts you around 36k before taxes. A tacoma with TRD package is over 50k, same with the ZR2 Colorado. Maybe we will see the Ranger take on the Bronco looks. Also possibly a standard cab regular bed/short bed ranger would be amazing. The ONLY thing I hesitate on for trucks is the length. I deal with crowded parking lots on the daily so that's an issue for me.
I bet this helped a lot of people with the bronco. Seen a lot of people worried about buying the bronco cause it and the Ranger share same platforms. Look them rangers are tough if you doubt them, it’s the global Ranger that’s been here for a loooong time. Don’t believe me look it up! This Ranger is only new to us in the US!
I'd like to see you get a hold of one of the Rangers with the fox shock package from Ford and see how much the difference is. Great content as usual. 👍
@@shitloveaduck I don't have the ranger but I do have a 19 Nissan frontier 4 by 4, I also changed out my struts and shocks immediately but I couldn't afford Fox shocks so I used Bilstein 5100's and I added BFGoodrich tires (285-60 x18's)also. it made a giant difference.
I have the fox shock package (upgrade from FX shocks on the Fx4 package) and I added the dealer 2 inch level/lift in the front w/32inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers....Does great off road and for towing both
Dude I love your videos but you said the base bronco wouldnt be better at off roading than this ranger due to have a touch less ground clearance but clearly the approach and departure angles of the bronco would provide a huge advantage.
Trail control looks like a great way to get too confident and break stuff. Solid overall midsize truck though. Can't wait for the Ranger Raptor to finally hit North America. Good vid.
TFLOffRoad make sure to correct the ground clearance measurement. The Bronco says 11.6" but that is below the rear diff only. Measure it at the front diff, then at the breakeven point between the wheels. I think it is over 16". Much higher then a Wrangler or a Defender.
That turbo motor sounds like a great fit for a truck. All these other modern V6s don't make much low end torque, it's all at the top end which is exactly where you don't want it in a truck type vehicle. That's the worst thing about my Toyota 4Runner, the 4.0 doesn't make any low end torque. Very sluggish at low RPM.
You can't say Bronco 2 when you are giving info you need to say Bronco as well. Otherwise we might get lost for a minute and think you are referring to the 80's and early 90's mini Bronco. Lol Another good review on the Hydroline. No surprise there though because you always do a good job. Still wish you had some really good off camber sections (moguls) to really test the lockers or limited slips on these trucks or SUV's. Would be pretty easy to make with the tractor in one of those straight sections you have. The off camber would give a great still shot of not only how much suspension flex front and rear but how stiff the frame is on the trucks by how much the beds shifted from the cabs. Just a thought.
I have the ford ranger wild track witch is the top of the range in Australia absolutely love it the 3.2 diesel is suck a reliable engine goes so well have about 120000km on it now with no problem just putting lift and Tyers on the thing changes the Ute off-road great Ute 👍👌🙌
Every trim of the Bronco except the Base has more ground clearance than the Ranger. The Base is on 30" all season tires, other trims are on 32" or taller tires. Ford says they expect anyone who wants to off road with the Base to use it as a platform for modification or add the Sasquatch package which gives 11.6" of ground clearance on 35" MT tires.
I had a 02 F-150 FX4. After warranty 3 coil on plugs went bad, u joint had to be replaced, a rear axle seals went bad. All under 60K miles. Truck never off-road.
@@231mac you know whats shitty? the 2nd gen 3.5l and 2.7l are only available in the f150. the cars/suvs dont get them besides lincoln products (and even then im not 100% sure which ones.)
I really appreciate this video you put a lot of hard work into it and it shows one of your best I’ve said to myself after I seen that tractor go into the mud this Ranger is doomed but like a little trooper man it went right through it I’m glad you’re on the team making videos
Good job in the mud - lose the sidesteps & switch to a mud tire & that little truck will be all the more capable. Sidesteps would come off on day one for me. Could also benefit from the 3.5” lift or even a simple spacer kit with 33s.
Your comment on the base bronco being the same as the fx ranger is not fair, you should comment on the base bronco competing against the base ranger! And I’m sure the base bronco will take it.
Yeah, no shit. Technically, the equivalent to the FX4 package in the Bronco is the Sasquatch, which has 11.6" of ground clearance and 35" mud terrains.
Not a fan of turbos but this maybe the best tuned version of this engine. Doesn't strain and just goes. Feels like an old Toyota without the underpowered issues. Just change the oil.
On the A/T tire scale, the Hankooks are a very unaggressive tread on P-rated tires, with Bridgestone Revos being about the least aggressive A/T you can get (really an all season), I'd rank the Hankooks at about a Goodyear Wrangler, or Pirelli scorpion level. The Dynapros do get to about a mid level on the L/T rated with the greater tread depth though. If you were looking for aggressive, the most aggressive non hybrid tire would likely be a Falken Wildpeak AT3w, with Toyo A/Ts, Nittos, BFG and General Grabbers not too far behind. The AT3ws just have a deeper tread on both the P and L/T rated tires, and in fact you can't get a deeper tread without going to a hybrid or mud terrain. Deep wide treads clean mud the best, after all. That, and you never get tired of saying " Those are some big Falken tires!" or "look at this Falken guy with his Falken tires."
Hi, I saw an XLT with electronic locking rear diff and 4wd....no FX4 package... So aside from the skid plate on the FX4, does the different suspension really make a big difference?
LOL That blues guitar going like something from Crossroads. Sheesh that fox shock hangs so low it is a breaking point waiting to happen. Surprised the tires were that good. Your review was fair I think about the Ranger. I miss my 75 XLT. But by todays standards, I reckon that is a worthy successor. Although the fact you cannot get a V8 in it, still sucks. :P And the fact that it is not directly as small as its predecessor is ridiculous. One might as well buy an F150 for the price and size being so close to one another. As for your hydroline clean up.. I reckon for the purpose of splashing about in new rigs it makes some sense to not have real world threats lurking below. But you know, the fun of challenging the machine against nature is to not modify nature so your machine has it easy. ;)

Look them rangers are tough if you doubt them, it’s the global Ranger that’s been here for a loooong time. Don’t believe me look it up! This Ranger is only new to us in the US!
Me thinks that you'll be able to get your FX4 Ranger with a manual transmission or a 2.7L V6 soon. Hopefully the next model year.
Now there is a man who is enjoying his work.
Whoa this is my new favorite channel
I'd like to see you get a hold of one of the Rangers with the fox shock package from Ford and see how much the difference is. Great content as usual. 👍
Doesn’t the fx4 already come with fox shocks? I think I saw fox logo in this video when he showed the underbody
Love the reaction!
Can watch all day especially when you guys are testing the ranger keep up the great work
Trail control looks like a great way to get too confident and break stuff. Solid overall midsize truck though. Can't wait for the Ranger Raptor to finally hit North America. Good vid.
I just wish ford offered a ranger with 4 doors and 6ft bed. If they did I would have bought one but I went chevy Colorado and am happy with that.
How about put those rocks back and do it again?
Right like the other trucks did. Drive it man. Drive it!
TFLOffRoad make sure to correct the ground clearance measurement. The Bronco says 11.6" but that is below the rear diff only. Measure it at the front diff, then at the breakeven point between the wheels. I think it is over 16". Much higher then a Wrangler or a Defender.
This guy is the best, great video
Sure is a nice pickup that Ranger. Wish it could be had with the Coyote V8.
Yeah, a Ranger Raptor version with a 5.0 would be a beast. They would sell a ton of them.
Great video Steve. I enjoyed every bit of it
This dude is like the Canadian Stacy David the way he drives through mud.
His review of this truck was so enjoyable. He is like an older brother I've always wanted to explain stuffs like this to me. Ha ha
You can't say Bronco 2 when you are giving info you need to say Bronco as well. Otherwise we might get lost for a minute and think you are referring to the 80's and early 90's mini Bronco. Lol
Another good review on the Hydroline.
Can say from my own experience with my ranger that the Fx4 is one bad mamma jamma. Have yet to find a true challenge for it yet
Steven, Great video as always Where in Canada Do You Live?
That tractor performed very well. Might have to get one of those bad boys.
I've already got one!
And it is possible to get one stuck, especially if you have equipment on the back and try to cross a steep sided creek. :-(
"That no Stock Truck can make it."
Power Wagon: Looks at Jeep
Jeep: looks back...
Power Wagon and Jeep: burst out laughing!! 🤣🤣🙏
I had a 02 F-150 FX4. After warranty 3 coil on plugs went bad, u joint had to be replaced, a rear axle seals went bad. All under 60K miles. Truck never off-road.
Sounds like my 2017 tacoma except I had low compression and rebuilt motor at 40k lol
Get a tune on the Ranger Eco. Game changer
Do those new Off road packages raise the overall ground clearance or just the front? Love the Hydroline videos!!
I'm pretty sure they do.
My F150 with the FX4 definitely looks taller next to a regular one.
@@teop7887
Not in the 2015 2016 xlt models
@@shitloveaduck you gain half an inch actually. It has bigger tires than the non Fx4. 31s instead of 30s
i would love one of these.. if i didnt already know what an absolute nightmare a direct injection ONLY engine is
Dang, I didn't realize these were DI only. That's why I waited for the 2nd gen 3.5 eco to come out so I could get the dual injection.
@@231mac you know whats shitty? the 2nd gen 3.5l and 2.7l are only available in the f150. the cars/suvs dont get them besides lincoln products (and even then im not 100% sure which ones.)
@@dr._breens_beard Had to look it up because I couldn't remember, either. Here's the vehicle list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_EcoBoost_engine
I really appreciate this video you put a lot of hard work into it and it shows one of your best I’ve said to myself after I seen that tractor go into the mud this Ranger is doomed but like a little trooper man it went right through it I’m glad you’re on the team making videos
What an awesome video! Great job!
I had ATM's on my 05 Sorento, i went thru mud that explorers and Cherokees couldn't
This is a 4 cylinder right? It did great, they’re making these 4 cylinder trucks nowadays really good.
But you know, the fun of challenging the machine against nature is to not modify nature so your machine has it easy. ;)
I would have liked to see 4A included, instead of just 4H and 4L.
I have a feeling it may come pretty soon with a refresh! It has the same chassis of the new bronco and it has 4a, and front/rear lockers!
The Ford Rangers are fun to RECK on Bumpy Roads
It would be my dream to reck a truck
