    On the towing, I bought mine in December in Georgia, & immediately hooked up about 7k lbs of towed weight, a few hundred lbs in the bed, more cargo in the back seat, and me the wife and two dogs, & drove 2300 miles over 3 days. Got 15 mpg, & had NO trouble towing, even with it being my first time actually towing on-road. I was out-running other cars going uphill on the interstate. It’s a beast.

    It's been interesting reading all the comments. Different drivers have different needs in a truck. If you need a daily driver with occasional hauling or towing a boat or camper, any of these trucks (even the Ridgeline) will do. I rented a Colorado for an 800 mile roundtrip this past weekend. It was all highway miles, but my next truck will be my daily driver and will be used for occasional trips. The Colorado did well. We averaged just under 24 mpg and the truck was comfortable enough. The V6 had sufficient power and the truck handled curvy mountain roads nicely. I look forward to driving the Ranger. If I was going to do a lot of off-roading, I'd probably go with a Tacoma TRD Pro or the Colorado ZR2. But, that's not me. I'll be towing my camper and driving down forest roads to go fly fishing. The Colorado or Tacoma TRD would work just fine. I'll reserve judgement on the Ranger until I drive one. Nice to have all these choices, though.

    • @djxbangoo
      @djxbangoo 5 лет назад +10

      I agree. Technically speaking, any of these trucks will be more than adequate for most people's needs. In the grand scheme of things, trucks, and cars, have come such a long way in development that it would be difficult for anyone to says that any particular modern truck absolutely 'sucks balls' and 'can't do shit' if they're really honest with themselves. At this point it really just boils down to one's preference in styling, branding, and whatever premonitions they have about reliability and value.

    • @ronsoyka2555
      @ronsoyka2555 5 лет назад +1

      Uh, nah on Ridgeline. Not a truck since it has a unibody and the tow rating is an anemic 3500 lbs.

    • @alantaylor6595
      @alantaylor6595 5 лет назад +3

      @@ronsoyka2555 I owned a first generation Ridgeline. It had a towing capacity of 5000 lbs. Not sure if that changed with the newer model. The Ridgeline wasn't bad for day to day stuff, and the ride around town and on trips was great. I even took it on a couple of hunting trips and it did fine on back country roads. (I'd never take one on any serious off roading and certainly wouldn't use one for any kind of a work truck) But, the mpg was awful. A Silverado got the same mpg. I wouldn't buy another one simply because there are better options now available.

    • @ronsoyka2555
      @ronsoyka2555 5 лет назад

      @@alantaylor6595 I dont disbelieve you, but when they came out and I saw them at the auto show, they were spec'ing at 3500. I've never heard of any uni-body vehicle rated at 5000 lbs for towing. And that had the 3.5l, correct? Well the biggest drawback for me was the driving position. I am 6'5" and I have to try on cars like shoes. I couldnt see myself driving one of those at all. Even worse than the Taco. I dot suppose you ever tried to tow anything over 4,000# with did you? I opted for a used Sport-trac with a v-8. Bettter traction capabilities and 6800lbs in the tow rating. With a cat-back and cold air, I got 23mpg at 55 mph when temp over 60.

They're not going to offer a V6 in the Ranger at least till the first major overhaul in 4 years. While I think a 350 hp Ranger Raptor would be cool, it's going to be a hard sell due to pricing, as it will likely be within $5k of the F150 Raptor, especially if they equip it with some of the same tech (Fox shocks, etc.). Currently cleaning it up, and getting the 3.0 running better (previously had a high idle, now has a wonky cam synch that will be pulled soon.) A lot of work for a 21 year old truck but I don't need a car payment and for the cost of these new Ranger trucks, unless you don't need the full-size, the cost of an F-150 is a slightly better value.

    I priced out a Ranger Vs and F150. I built both how I would see as the bare "basics," four door, 4x4, base package, which I like, simple as possible. All I did was put the nice rims on and a couple interior items. Ranger $37500. F150 $41780. Yes the F150 has the base V6 in this comparison, but 3-5k more for the F150 only? Yeah, I wouldn't buy either. I own a ram, but that is the big argument a lot of people have. If you want the ABILITY to tow more and have more room..the low 'starting" price point of a ranger just is not low enough to argue against saving up a few bucks and buying a full size crew cab pickup, at least for people like me with a wife, kid, and a 75# dog. lol

    I really only buy rear wheel drive trucks due to their mechanical simplicity and smooth drive.
    I’ve noticed that the Ranger’s wheelbase is 127” while the Chevy Colorado can be had with a 140.5” wheelbase. The Ranger has a 5ft foot bed while the of Colorado a 6.24” bed. If I was looking to replace my 2006 Dodge Dakota that was replaced with my 2012 Dakota which had a 131.5” wheelbase and 6’ box I’d be interested in the Colorado. With a flip over bed extender at the back of the bed and a few horizontally laid 2x4s placed in the indents above the wheel wells this enables carrying a 4x8’ building sheets.
