    I have driven rangers for years in New Zealand and can say they are the best money can buy. Toyota was number1 for 30 years until the current ranger arrived and took the top spot by a massive margin and then became the best re-sale value as well.

    Just flipped my WRX to buy this truck. Really appreciate all the reviews, and demonstrations of this truck. You guys are really fun, and I enjoy your content. Think there is allot of value in this Ford product. I ordered the XL STX FX4, and it was 34K. It is the same truck as the fully loaded Lariat, but without the interior upgrades. Thats Awesome!!! My WRX was 30K, and does not have any of the versatility of this Ranger. I am really excited about this power train, and getting back into a Ranger. I had a 2011 FX4 Level 2 4.0V6, with 230K on it, and traded it in towards the WRX a few years ago. I was living in a townhouse, and did not need a truck. Bought a house this summer, and have been going back and forth about getting a truck to do home owner maintenance stuff. Don't need a full size, want to keep in garage, and like the agility of mid size. Then Ford relaunches the Ranger with a Turbo..... basically the WRX of midsize pickups. Ford really did a thing here, and this will be my third Ranger. Really appreciate the content guys. Subscribed, liked, and look forward to more!!!

      @@cazmaniandevil1 Oh did you pay 30% more than it's actually worth for that too? Ford charging 34k for an XL is ridiculous and straight up robbery. You can get an F-150 XLT for $34k all day. It shouldn't be a dime over $22k for a base trim (XL). XL trims are fleet/rental grade. Its hard to distinguish with this truck sonce they put so little effort into the interior on the XLT and Lariat trims, so I agree with them not being worth additional money. The truck's pricing is just ridiculous.

    • @cazmaniandevil1
      @cazmaniandevil1 5 лет назад +3

      @@hochhaul I don't want an F-150...... This truck is flying off the shelf, and people have not even driven it yet. I agree that it is shaking up the market, and Ford leveraged it accordingly. You will still see F150's, for a steal. I imagine quite a bit of people that would have bought one will get a Ranger. Leaving more surplus of F150 stock. Supply/Demand. Free market is fun!!! Hope you can still get cheap F150's bro.

    Own the 2020 Lariat FX4. Love it! We just had the worst snow storm in 20 years. I work at a hospital and had to have a truck that could get me there. I put on General Grabber ATX tires.. Made it with NO issues! Saw plenty of other trucks stuck in ditches. This truck is a swiss army knife. Good MPG, great off-road, comfortable, smooth, easy to manuever in town and park AND will tow 7500 lbs. Dont know what you could ask from a mid size pick up.

    Just gotta say....I drove from Orlando to Montgomery last week ( all Interstate ) running 75mph and got 28 MPG ! Around town here in Montgomery I average 23.5. And towing my A-Frame camper I usually get 19 MPG. That's not bad for a 4 cyl that is capable of towing 7500 lbs. I used to have a Ram 1500 with the Hemi and I miss it, but not at the pump ! Also, I just turned 20k miles and zero issues. Overall, it's a good truck that's more than capable of what most people expect.

    The "just get an F150" crowd doesn't realize that the Ranger is already on the large size for many of the 4x4 trails west of the Rockies. If the philosophy of use is doing that sort of thing, then this size vehicle or smaller is great.

  • @Mike-mi3yw
    @Mike-mi3yw 5 лет назад +140

    Overall excellent vehicle....just needs a new gauge cluster.

      its perfect for my mother who never drives on the freeway and stays in about a 10 mile radius. She won't care about the small gas tank or lack luster fuel economy on the highway . However for people actually working that truck hard or towing an enclosed trailer that gas tank size is going to absolutely suck.

    • @endocry
      @endocry 5 лет назад +17

      @@darens440 an 18 gallon tank is 14% less than a 21. Hardly as dramatic as you're making it out. Also, 26 mpg highway is lackluster? I even did two 23 hr trips from Michigan to Central Florida, with the same results. Not stiff or sore. The only way I'd part with my beloved Escape would be for a Ranger. But that ( hopefully) won't be necessary for many, many years. The mighty Escape has 207+k and still going strong. In fact, I'm planning a road trip from Michigan to Arizona coming soon.... should be epic!

      LMAO I guess you didn't buy the JKU for it's off-road worthiness? Because even a U is vastly superior to the Ranger off-road. • @foghelmut
      @foghelmut 5 лет назад

      The Ranger still seems to have an advantage in every other aspect among midsize. It's a shame they're allowed to get away with these Ecoboost claims when they only apply on flat ground at sea level in a controlled environment. I live in the hills and the uphill effort of the engine is never made up by the downhill coasting, my wife is getting 15 mpg city in her 2.0 Ecoboost Edge rated at 20/28. We can hit the highway number if you keep it around 50-60 mph, but that's unrealistic on the freeway. I've got an Impreza that I'm looking to replace with a truck, and that only loses about 1 mpg around here. That turbo really sucks gas.

    • @OriginalRanger84

      @@foghelmut they kind of have to go by what they get in a controlled environment though. Adam Kreuz It has been great for towing, commuting, and general work so far. I have not had to use 4wd yet. Went right over a mini 2’ tall sand dune going up the boat ramp a while back. The auto locking rear is awesome. Had one on each of my last three trucks. Been great on road trips with the kids. I have been learning a lot about it through research and ownership. I like what I have seen. I have been assembling a thread on Overland Bound. Been using it as a data dump resource as I find things. Do a search for a thread called “2018 Chevy Colorado Z71” in the “vehicle build” section of the forum. I am posting up pics and thoughts as I go along. Only thing I have found annoying is the backup camera goes full bright when in reverse at night. Turns out it is the 18’s only... some of them. Free software update next Sat to fix it. It is a great truck. The engine bay has LOTs if room to turn wrenches compared to most trucks too. Especially anything with a turbo and mechanical driven fan.

      Adam Kreuz One more thing... lol! I will never get a 4wd without the “Auto” mode like this truck has. Has almost no effect on fuel economy from what I can tell. And you can turn on dry pavement without binding the drivetrain. The Tcase is made by magna and the diffs are made by Dana. Same goes for this new ranger and Jeep Wranglers I believe. For now the Colorado has the best crawl ratio in the Market.... for midsized trucks.

      - Uncle - For sure! There were no advertised discounts at the time. Bought it in March. Used cargurus.com and did a 150mi search for the exact truck trim I wanted. SEVERAL dealerships offering massive discounts. Printed out the best deal from 4 dealers and headed to my local dealer instead. Showed them the near by discounted trucks that were within driving distance. They raked up the pile and came back with a deal without negotiations(mostly). Since the lot had just gotten a massive amount of Colorado’s... I got it in the exact color and trim I wanted.

    We live in Vegas. We drive from Vegas to SoCal 10 to 12 times a year. We always get a couple miles per gallon better when traveling to California. I’m guessing it’s due to the elevation change from sea level to over 2000 Feet. My 2018 Silverado Crew cab 4x4 Z71 with the 8 speed and the 5.3 gets about 22mpg to LA and a little over 20 mpg coming back.

    I was playing in the build it section on the Ford Canada web site. I also was looking at, reminiscing about a 2010 Ranger I had bought in 2010. In 2010, my truck was an XLT and basically loaded for the time. The build sheet was showing a MSRP of just over $32,000 Canadian! So I thought I would try to build a 2019 Ranger like my 2010. I came up with a Ranger a SuperCab (the previous Ranger never offered a SuperCrew in Canada, USA) the XL model with the Sport package. MSRP was just over $34,000 Canadian!!! That’s all. We see the prices on here but the current Ranger has a ton of options, features, standard features than the previous Ranger. It is much larger as well. There are so many standard features that were not even options then. So comparing apples to apples, as close as possible, the Ranger is not overpriced. At all. The truck is just so much more now. I then compared the SuperCrew Ranger against the Explorer Sport Trac, the equivalent of the time. It was easy to get a fully loaded Sport Trac to retail at about $45,000 Canadian! The comparable Ranger Lariat FX4 is near the same price at just under $47,000. The Lariat also has many more safety features and options the Sport Trac didn’t have in 2011.
    Taking this into account, I am thinking the pricing is not too bad.
    I think you could negotiate much more off the MSRP in 2010 than now. That makes a big difference.
    Hmmmmmm

Any time my family travels from the willamette valley to central oregon (4-5k elevation gain) we get significantly lower fuel mileage than our typical "average" . No different bed sizes, no bigger fuel tank options, no heated steering wheel nor cooled seats, again this is a almost $50 grand truck with a 4 cylinder, turbo or not still cheaper then a V6 or V8 to manufacture. So I think Ford arrogantly or cheaply decided to charge a little too much for what's offered, but it's in its 1st year so we'll see if the consumer demand is there and whether consumers will have the same complaints and if Ford will listen, just glad Ford didn't do what GM is doing for their Blazer roll out, what a POS that GM should be ashamed of, no creative thought what's so ever, maybe they'll come to their senses when they sell few if any...
