F150 2.7L vs Ranger in Gauntlet, 0-60 and quarter mile!!!
Wers the ford ranger vs the chevy calorado with a v6
The Fast Lane Truck please tell us the length of the drag race makes a difference to us. 300',500,800'. Bet the f150 would be 5 or 6 truck lengths infront of the Ranger in the 1320. Thanks.
Do you really have to take off the left wheel on the ranger to do an oil change?
@@ITSANGEL. I have one of the european rangers and to change the oil filter it is under the left fender. All you have to use is an extended ratchet with the right socket and you can remove it without removing the wheel. The drain is below the pickup. I know the engines are different but pretty sure it is the same concept
Ford should have put the 2.7 ecoboost in the 2019 Ranger that would be down right nasty combo
billy heaton They probably will in the future. There’s no point in making the first year have all the options. They’ve got to “improve” every year to drive sales.
They still haven’t redesigned it which is maybe coming soon
He ranger raptor will have the 2.7
Yeah might as well push the ranger near 60k why not. Would be a fun combo though
A tune will fix the power, the same engine in the mustang makes 320/350.
The Ranger did really well against the 3.5 for it being as it is for being stock. Just a little tweaking to the Ranger and it would probably dust anything out there. The Ranger stayed right there at its heals in stock form. I'm impressed...!!!

Never thought I'd hear "giant V6" when referring to a truck
Sad times indeed.
Don Leamon so so sad.
@@donleamon8653 Yes, very sad when a V6 blows the doors off your V8. :)
GM DID make a giant v6 back in the 60's
so youve never heard of the GMC 478 V6? pffft, what kind of car guys are you? they had a small V6 that was 305 cubic inches that went into full sized pickup and many more including a 401. they also took two v6's and made a V12 for stuff like Fire trucks...companies like Navistar have been building V6 diesels for as long as ive been alive that are used in big rigs. they also have a V6 based on the old V8 they were selling to Ford and Ford Mysteriously changed the water coolant filter to an untreated type that destroyed engines...anyhow this is all on the inner webs in far greater detail than i can just rattle off. start with the Wiki page on the GMC 305. theres a whole world of trucks out there you and i know little about
I just test drove both trucks yesterday and I liked the Ranger better. Part throttle response was so good in the ranger, in the F-150 3.5 you had to press it a lot to get moving. The Ranger is heavy at 4500lbs but doesn't feel in on the road.
I don't get drag racing trucks but I sure do like hearing that 10-speed whip through the gears on the Ranger. Must be a friggin dream around hills and valleys like we're I live. A 5 or 6 speed can't decide what gear to choose.
Ranger damn close considering its a 2.3
Thought I wanted an F150 until I drove a Ranger. Took 5 people to supper in my SuperCrew Ranger this evening, no problems. The F150 is a great truck and deserves all the accolades it gets, just too big and not for me. Thanks for the vid!!
Best drag race face goes to Mr. Truck!
I was dying at his facial expressions
Yep, because if you keep your head and body perfectly still, your truck will go faster!
Now race the Ranger against the V8 Ram and Silverado!
I think the ranger will win if it was this close to the F150
Shawn Barnish the ranger wouldn’t keep up
I think you are right. Because the f150 is the fastest of it's class. The ranger will probably run neck and neck with the ram and Silverado . Put a tune in it. And it would smoke those two
@@Randomadventurelife with the ford performance tune is is a beast plus you keep you warranty
Random Adventures Not at sea level it doesn’t. Well the ram it does but not the 6.2 gm.
The ranger put up a better fight than the 6.2 Chevy lol
Right
For sure lol
Yeah at a mile above sea level. Test would be different near sea level
@@SerkaGaming Yea, but it's good to shoe hoe it does higher up. The turbo will also do way better at sea level as well
this and that reviews yes it also will but it would be a lot closer race

Chris and broke down several times!
Very surprised to hear that Mr. Truck chose the 3.5 V6 over the 5.0 V8. We all know how much he loves V8's.
That's the first thing I was wondering about! I was also very surprised he chose the ecoboost! I myself have the v8 and love it!!

@@fread51 I can get $5,400 off a truck without hail damage any day of the year.
@@fread51 There are F150s with double the markdowns without dents on the hood. $5,400 is nothing great. Besides that, the truck was insured.
It was really surprising how well the ranger kept up, it was only like 1/2 a second behind
7:16 "My chrome tip"...lol. Mr. Truck, I didn't know you were a freak.
Guys! Guys! Please go to Porn Hub!
They did have a turbo 2.3 in the old thunderbird pretty good little engines especially with the new improvements. You can get alot more power out of them.
An 2018 2.7 vs the 2019 2.3 would be closer to an even match. Would love to see that match up and I bet everyone else would too.
I have a 2018 Ram 1500 hemi with 3.92's and the new F150's walk all over my stock truck. You can't ever take that away from Ford, their trucks are quick and they can tow and haul a lot.
Paul Martin I can tell you what that’s why I like dodge people better than Chevy people dodge people they are respectful to others Chevy people i Guess there just brainwashed by Chevys false advertising I own a 5.4 v8 06 f150 and my dad has a 2015 Ram 1500 with 5.7 v8 and there both good long lasting reliable trucks
Trevor potts i own a 04 f150 with a 5.4 extended cab short box, and a 01 chevy 1500 with a 5.3 extended cab long box. My chevy will smoke my ford.
My old 98 ford with the 4.6 would outrun them both.
Paul Martin bwahahahahaha.. You're so full of shit!
R. R what’s the weight ratio
Mr. Truck bought an f150 what more do you guys need to know whats better
the big 3.5! Who would have thought that 20 years ago.
That little Ranger is pretty impressive with that 4 banger. Will probably dust most other full size trucks!
Considering how the Ranger shares the engine with the Ecoboost Mustang I wonder how much extra power can be achieved with the right add-ons and tune.
@@brainandforce Ford is selling an upgraded tune that will make 350hp/390tq
Last year I bought the same truck as Mr. Truck's, 2018 F150 XLT FX4) with a few more options (sticker of $57,000-plus) and no hail damage for $43,500 out the door. Not sure you will get those kinds of discounts on the Ranger.
That is the type of deal I like to see, I hate the thought of paying anywhere near MSRP for a truck
Not right away for sure. End of life cycle maybe.
I went from a 13 5.0 to a 18 3.5 ecoboost and love it. Drag racing on the back stretch of IMI; looks fun!
A truck length is all there was in the difference? That’s actually amazing. I’d never buy one but that is impressive against the 3.5 Ecoboost
Now you see why the ranger does not get the 2.7 ecoboost. It would beat the 3.5 ecoboost.
Waiting patiently for the Ranger vs Colorado drag race....!
hahahahaha. the ranger will destroy the colorado
@@enigma9789 Until the videos/numbers come out, I think it's too-close-to-call at elevation where TFL is, but I think the Colorado might beat the Ranger at sea level. I think you'd have to be a whole lot higher elevation before the Ranger will do anything close to 'destroying'...
@@NukePooch1 so. you think the colorado will beat any silverado? because this ranger looks at least as fast as the 6.2. or close to it.
@@enigma9789 TFL tested the Colorado in a different video as only about a half-second slower 0-60 at their track. At sea level, it is likely the Colorado will win. Oh, and the Silverado 6.2 is often as quick or quicker than the 3.5 F150 at sea level...

Great sponsor for the video, but many of us have used FORScan on our Ford Trucks to change the feature sets and disable things like auto start/stop. It would be neat to have a series of "Do It at your own risk" tutorials teaching people how to use FORScan and the equipment needed for the connection to the truck. Personally, it was worth the $30.00 in equipment and time to learn the system/download the software to get rid of the augmented sound and noise cancelling crap in my F150. The elimination of the Sirius options on MyTouch was a plus and I put the heated seat buttons back on the touch screen. And you can enable "Bambi Mode" which is something that you cannot do on any other brand of truck. All was AWESOMESAUCE!
0 to 60 on both would have been a nice give.

That 3.5L Is Great For Off Road And For Your Family.
I have the same new F-150 with the 3.5 eco-boost and when I switched to Castrol Magnetic oil my gas mileage instantly increased to 21 from 17 MPG
I think Mr. Truck has been into the sauce again...
Good to see Mr Truck back on the channel! Definitely prefer the F-150. We get the smaller Ranger in the UK, and we’re all here wishing the meaty F-150 was available!
That Ranger is impressive acceleration wise if it only lost by a truck length to a 3.5 eco boost
Alex I had a Ranger for an extended test drive (over the weekend) and it runs like it has a big V6 in it. I went with basically the same truck as Mr. Truck did (same wheels, color, 3.5 eco, 4 door), but in 2WD. There is absolutely no comparison in power.
Ive been critical of TFL truck videos in the past but this was a good video. The F150 3.5 is faster but it was also faster against all other half tons. It might be nice to see the Ranger go up against a hemi 1500 and a 6.2 GM.
The white truck won while hauling Mr. Truck’s big keister. Impressive.
@TFLtruck; Just read an interesting article on the oil change procedure for the new ranger on CNET. Sounds like a PITA. Might want to look at that for a future video. If I bought a new one I'd take it to the dealer and let them hassle with it.
Fun video ... congratulations Mr. Truck
Thanks
Mr truck , you killed it with your description to the F150. duel injection 12 injectors.THATS SO SICK
F-150 with the 5.0 is the one I would get. Check out videos where Ford mechanics are asked which engine they would buy and the vast majority say 5.0.
Same here man.
I'd rather have a F-150 ,oh l Do !
Scott Person that’s an old video when ecoboost was pretty new . I’d bet there answers would be different now
The 2nd gen ecoboost doesn’t have the same problems anymore. Dual port injection
And yet a visit to the F-150 forums shows quite a few 5.0 owners with serious issues. Remember this is the same company that gave us the 3V 5.4, perhaps the worst half ton engine of the past 30 years. The 5.0 isn't the old pushrod smallblock people fondly remember, far from it. It's thoroughly modern, with all the good and bad that entails.
I didn't even think of the possibility of Mr. Truck putting a Raptor hood on his hail-damaged F-150, that would actually be cool. Usually I think all the people trying to make their run-of-the-mill F-150s look like Raptors are silly (like people with V6 Mustangs putting "SVT" stickers or Cobra emblems on them back in the day), but he actually has a good reason to do it. If he can find a hood cheaply, that is. Otherwise I think it looks fine, especially being white.
85000 mile and still problem free w/my Coyote. May not outperform that forced induction motor, but it sure sounds better!

Wow... A Ford truck finally lost a drag race.
Mexico made parts F150. Y'all love your Lobos.
Glad it didn't light itself on fire
@@sevnlight6313 , which parts? Most F-150's are made at the Dearborn truck plant. The only truck made in Mexico is the Ram and some 4-door Silverados. www.reuters.com/article/us-trade-nafta-autos/game-of-chicken-gm-bets-on-mexican-made-pickup-trucks-idUSKBN1F42G7

@@Rocksolidbullys the ecoboosts have proven to be very reliable, they've been out since 2011, and 2010 in some passenger cars
@@smarticus6384 That link you posted talks about GM NOT Ford....
The facts are F150's have always had Mexican made parts. I remember doing repairs on my F150 and seeing many tags all over the place that said Made in Mexico🇲🇽.
Ford uses Mexican trucking companies who drop trailers at this place (22239 Mines Rd, Laredo, TX 78045) Then"Rich logistics" picks up the trailers or uses owner operators. Ford also brings in their parts thru train from Mexico.
The cartels/mob in Mexico love F150s. Mexico has rights since they make parts. With those same rights they rename the F150's the FORD LOBO'S.
In Australia the Ranger is 55K and the F150 is over 100K because of RHD conversion cost.
Please, Ford, make a Raptor Range with the 2.7L v6 ecoboost.
Why 2.7? They can fit the 3.5 in there too
Back in 2005 i contemplated putting a 2.3 turbo coupe thunderbird drivetrain in a 93 f150 lightning clone with the boost turned up.it had a short 5th gear manual.i could have left the rear 3.55s..plus all the weight savings...people laughed and laughed...gas prices were getting outrageous...i told many people small turbo engines are the future..sadly never finished the project
Hoping for a 2.7l ranger soon
Silent but Deadly it will have to wait for a redesign as this platform isn’t built for a V6 setup.
The redesign will have the escapes 1.5 at fords replacement for displacement rate
@@gs98999 yeah, it might fall to pieces if you put a V6 in it.
Sorry to hear about the engine choice. Did the hail not touch any V8 equipped trucks?
I love turbo charged vehicles. Keeps my shop open for repairs. Kills the longevity of the motor but lots of power.
If the engine internals are built to handle the power, turbocharged engines will last quite awhile.
@@chrism.728 That's what we do. We beef their internals and bearings after they tear it up.
Leg room would be an issue for me. I had a Tacoma and liked it, but it was murder on my legs and I am only 6'-3". It was such an improvement moving back to a full sized PU.
Imagine the poor people crammed in the back seat. Its basically for kids and short adults.
Mr Truck sounds like he’s been smoking some of that Colorado weed.
He sticks to big 'ol cigars, my friend.
Will the ranger with the 5 star tune beat the stock f150? Thinking about buying a tuner for my 2020 ranger.
I thought Mr. Truck liked the Coyote 5.0, what's with the 3.5? Is it because of the high altitude where naturally aspirated would suffer?
Didn't want to pay $60k+ for the V8 is why.
Yes it's because of the high altitude.
@@wildbill23c dude, the V8 is cheaper than the 3.5 V6 ecoboost.
That's now how it works when you configure one, or look at the rare one that shows up by accident at a dealership, they put another $2-4k on the price to get the V8.
And he'll never put 200K miles on the truck anyway. I suspect at 100K miles he'll trade it in for a new one. So he'll never have to deal with any of the high mileage ecoboost issues. If he really cared about cost, he would have gotten the 2.7 ecoboost. Towing is down quite a bit on it compared to the 3.5 though. For 95% of truck buyers, the 2.7 ecoboost is more than enough power though.
Paid $21k for a '96 Ranger fully loaded, big engine every box checked (except multiple CD changer). It went 250k miles and held together without any major incidents. 23 years later, it's $46k for a 4 cylinder version. So much more advanced etc. but wow, the price is just crazy.
I really wish they put a analog tach in the ranger. The digital one sucks !
There are nicer digital tachometers as well...
Drove both and went with the F150, felt I got a lot more truck for the money at the same trim levels between the two and for me was only about 4k difference and got the 5.0 with the F150
That's drives me nuts when guys rev there engines up like that. That's hard on the motor
Gotta burn that carbon
I have a 2019 ranger sport and I love it. I spank stock v8s and cars all the time. The hellcat left me by a mile though 😂
Can't believe Mr.Truck is driving an ecoboost...
I'm sure it is fine but all the plastic plumbing for the turbos worry me. I bet they are expensive to replace. How well are they protected from rolling over something in the road?
2.7 turbo is pretty fast......
If they offer a Ranger with the 2.7 I'm getting one. Good choice of trucks Mr. Truck!
Great video!!! But $46k for a mid sized truck? Not my money.
You can get the same motor and transmission for like 20k less. No one pays MSRP on a truck anyway unless its a raptor.
$46,000 is a really nicely equipped Lariat. And $46,000 is just the list price, it's not the actual price.
@@giovanni4436 My rule of thumb is never settle for less than 10k below MSRP for a truck, so with that in mind, mid 30s is a little more reasonable for half a truck
@@youngblood23rb with a base Ranger at $24k and a base F-150 at $28k, your rule of thumb says that you shouldnt purchase either until they are $14k and $18k respectively???
@@youngblood23rb I don't even have rules like that when I buy because that's just shooting in the dark. Manufacturer's incentives, invoice pricing and dealer holdback can all be found online and should just automatically be part of the deal. Things like financing kickbacks, etc. aren't quite as easy to point to, but that's where you have to shop around and haggle.

I own an F-150 from before they started that auto start stuff, I had to get my tune up done so I rented a newer f-150 just to compare, that feature sucked so bad. I was on a hill trying to pull out into traffic and didn't realize the auto start stop had happened. took my foot off and it rolled back before going forwards, very disconcerting to have that happen when you are not really ready for it. That 5.0 is way way more powerful then the 5.4 in my truck though. That was fun

I traded in a Ranger on a 2017 f150 with the 2.7 litre ecoboost. I love the Ranger but after owning the f150 for 6 months I never see me going back to a small truck. The ecoboost is a beast and the f150 has so much more room. I wont even get in to how much better the f150 rides .
The Ranger looks big on the outside but cramped on the inside. I thought Mr Truck was going to have to take his hat off lol.
Wow... I love V8 as much as the next guy, but some of y’all act like a cult, the way you talk about Them. It’s like the stupid Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, and Nissan extremist fanboys. Twelve year olds just have to fight about something on the Internet, huh? Mr. Truck got what he wanted and I’m 100% certain he don’t give a damn what any of you think about it. There’s nothing wrong with the EcoBoost, especially the new ones, y’all are just reaching for an argument that ain’t there. I’d understand if you prefer the Coyote because it’s a little easier to work on, although if you know how to work on engines though the 3.5 EB Ain’t bad at all... of course the “Social Media Mechanics,” would probably disagree! 😂😂But for those who pick the 5.0 just because it sounds better; I think you’re looking for a Mustang. Trucks are made for one thing and one thing alone, and that’s hard work and sometimes play, not “sound.” Mr. Truck picked the better performer because he needs a hard working truck, he don’t care about sound, he’s a grown man who just needs a hard working pick up, not a loud compensator! When y’all are older you’ll understand what a pick up is really for, y’all crack me up! 😂😂

Ford should of used the 2018 mustang 2.3. They put out 310hp and 350tq.
In Australia they get a 3.2 turbo engine
No the 2.7 ecoboost would kill anything in the small truck market
@@carholic-sz3qv literally everywhere the 3.2 was available, in Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand etc. It was also a bad engine, reliability was mediocre, power was good on paper, but it didn't translate into decent performance, with a 0-100 km/h of like 13.6 seconds, it lost in a drag race to literally every other pickup. I know no one is going to race their pickup truck, but for something with a 3.2, 5 cylinder, you'd want some getup. And and the fuel economy was also pretty bad on the 3.2 aswell , losing to all other available pickups in the European market. They recently replaced the 3.2 with a 2.0 Twin turbo diesel, with more horsepower and about the same amount of torque, and much better fuel economy. I think we don't get the same engine as the guys in the US, this 2.3 diesel.
@@carholic-sz3qv the 3.2L we get is a diesel and it has now been super seated by a 2.0L twin turbo diesel with more torque and 3 more KW of power also in aus we no longer get a gas option in 90% of pickups on the market i think toyota is the last to offer a 2.7L gas engine i would love a 2.3L ecobosst ranger in aus because i hate diesels

Nope. Definitely care about what my truck looks like. I drive an 07 4.6L V8 F150 and the only thing I would upgrade to is the 5.0L just because it's reliable enough. Because all truck owners drag race their truck??? Another joke of a video!
Meh, interesting to see. I'm looking at the Ranger for my next vehicle. I live in Germany and the roads and parking spaces are too small for a full sized truck. I would not want to dive the Ranger if its a slug. The Autobahn is not a place for slugs.

I’d be interested in how the 2.7 EcoBoost compares to the Ranger as well! Great review!
Andres reaction is always "WHAT" haha poor Andre great vid!
liking hov you mentioned the "everyman" package even if it isn't the test model
I would like to see how the Ranger fairs against the 2.7 Ecoboost. Not just in terms of drag race, but a serious head to head on all aspects of the truck. How did they get the Ranger’s running lights to “flicker” like that?
Is there a way we could see the Ranger vs a F 150 with the 2.7 EcoBoost and see if it is any closer, in the future?
So, based on this video and the distance between the two trucks, that ranger would be as fast or faster than the gm and dodge and toyota half ton trucks. Based on the video you guys did with the big 4...
