    It’s very clear who in the comments have never handled a haute horologerie piece. Sure they’re Veblen goods but the hand finishing is what makes it special. Once you get to this level of collecting, a Rolex is just something you throw on when you don’t want to damage something more valuable

  • @gradeawarrior
    @gradeawarrior 6 лет назад +1

    I enjoyed your feedback of the watch as if it was just a $10k watch. I do think that those people who say that a watch is not worth it, are the same people who cannot afford it or simply cannot appreciate horology and craftsmanship. Of course, I’m speaking from experience! Now, I wouldn’t and couldn’t (in good conscience) spend this much for a watch; but obviously, there are more fortunate people out there who can and would. So cheers to their good fortune!

      Unless you get the R400 version, I'm with J. Anthony here: get the R32, especially if you can grab a VSPEC-2 or NISMO version. The longer wheelbase of the R33 kinda girlie'd it out.

    Let's all just get something out of the way shall we? No Swiss watch is worth its asking price. None. It doesn't matter if it's Patek Philippe or if it's Swatch. The truth is that the Swiss watch industry is not first and foremost a watch industry. It is first and foremost a JEWELRY and IMAGE business. Period. End of story.

      The Arcane Arcade 20g of Gold in the rotor ? 35*20= 700
      700*(22/24)= 640 usd only in Gold 😅😅😅😅 After you have manifacture and the Mechanism... probabily this watch cost 5000 Dollar for Patek and is on Sale for 33500chf = 35000usd but is the same for a bottle of wine or if you Go in a good Resturant not only for jelwery 😅

    The real reason luxury items have become so unaffordable is because of all the billionaires forking out ridiculous amounts of money to outbid each other. A Ferrari 250 GTO that was $150, 000 (adjusted for inflation) when it was first made sells for tens of millions today. Rich fuckers don't like being told they can't have something, and if another rich fuck wants the same thing and there isn't enough to go around the bidding war ensues and the value of the item skyrockets. I'm assuming this is the same thing Patek is doing; they are artificially keeping the stock of their most desired items low so that they can increase the prices each year and get all the rich cunts throwing money at them and hollering, trampling over one another to get their hands on one. I love watches and Patek, but the prices on the Nautilus are getting a bit ridiculous. Who knows where they will go; will they keep rising or will their value plummet if PP decides to change their business model? I feel like it's too risky of an investment for the average person. Only way to justify such a purchase is if $50k really isn't that much to you.

    Anthony, first off Great Review! My thanks to Bernard Watch for letting you review it. Also, what a great upgrade on the production value. I could see the details on that watch, even the slight scratches at 9:30 and 10:10 on the bezel, and I could see where someone took a polish wheel to the bezel to try to fix the scratches. That being said, I could clearly see the texturing on the dial with the ridges. Also I could see the hand polishing on the corners of the bridge plates. I can really appreciate what it took to design and build that watch. That being said, unless Bill Gates leaves me all of his wealth in is will, I don’t think I will ever own one. Keep up the great work my brother! -Mark

    I bought a Nautilus in Filene's Basement in Boston in 1982 for 920 USD. I never liked the watch and preferred to wear my well-worn submariner. The Nautilus doesn't run now. I guess I didn't wear it enough to keep it exercised. The turn off for me was the shape of the watch, it reminded me of an old TV or something. I still have it, and will eventually get it serviced and sell it to fund my retirement interests.

    Enthusiastic and honest review as always. I just don’t like the way the dial is laid out with the sub dials at various places. I’ve also got a hang up over PP not providing something as basic as hacking seconds. Yep, the design is historic and the finishing is top draw and it will hold value, no question about these points. I guess this one just isn’t my taste. Lucky you though, with Bernard Watch letting you do what you do so well. Keep traveling well.

    It is not my style but it seems ok. I get why somebody would spend the money but we also need to understand who this watch is for. This is not for the person who has to save and save to buy it. This is the kind of price point for those who make more than they can spend. The same way I could never grasp the idea of spending for a Lamborghini for 200k or more. Though some people stretch to buy luxury goods, if a person is not capable of going in the particular normal order and of the equal level of luxury for each item, it is a sign you should not be buying a item out of place from that level of luxury (or it might make you uncomfortable to spend on it). Example would be buying a normal house, normal car, and a normal to low level luxury watch. To spend 50k on a watch, your car and house should reflect an equal difference of equivalency so your house maybe a million dollars and 200k car. When the watch cost more than your car and a quarter your home, it will be a purchase that causes you to think twice.

    • @TomaszGutka
      @TomaszGutka 6 лет назад

      I like your point of view and I agree, but coming from musical background, I don't really understand paying too much for a car. While good guitars and vintage amps hold and often appreciate in value literally with every year, I ride a Volvo S60 which is worth 1/5 of the gear that is transported inside. That's because I don't feel comfortable spending too much on cars or electronics- something that rarely keeps any value over time. Therefore, I'd be more comfortable spending 8k on a Rolex Submariner 114060 than on a car. I like the feeling that if I ever happen to need the money, I can always get at least 90% of if back even after few years of using, which is almost never the case with cars (unless they are classics)

    • @planetdee3587
      @planetdee3587 6 лет назад +1

      Tomasz Gutka, well that aspect of buying items comes down to one picking their poison. We all have the things that draw us in. For some its cars and for others it might be something else. Like how you spend a lot on music gear, I once was heavy into photography (which I want to get back into) and accumulated about 10k worth of gear (cameras and lenses) over the years. I know some guys who would never spend more than 100 bucks on a watch, yet do not mind spending 100 bucks on drinks at a bar on a weekend night (which I cannot wrap my head around). So we all have our thing. It is funny because when it comes to watch talk and people talk about whether they could purchase a nice luxury watch, I always come back to the idea that if you get rid of your primary poison for a while, you could probably buy a nice luxury watch.

    This watch was literally created to reinforce the difference between cheap and luxury watches and priced with this in mind. The price was artificially inflated many many times more than regular Swiss watches simply because people will pay for "luxury" if the price is high enough.
    Is it a nice watch? Yes. Is it worth anywhere near $50,000? Of course not - being overpriced is the entire raison d'etre of the watch!

    Hahaha, how bout the 5711??
    I was offered either a 5712R or a 5726 head up for my 5711/1A-010, lol.
    Short of a life crisis, I will never part with it however the 5711 bubble is crazy. It’s more than doubled from what I paid and while this bubble, like all of them will burst, the price is going to settle well north of what I paid for it and I and the other Patek owners have Patek to thank for that, haha
    They are second to none, with the possible exception of Rolex, in managing their supply.
    I prefer the clean face of the date only though it’s an amazing collection.
    Cheers🍻

      I'm curious to hear what has got you back into expensive watches? Can you do a status of the collection in the comments or through a video? Thanks!

    • @JANTHONYCHANNEL
      @JANTHONYCHANNEL  6 лет назад

      Sure, a video may be difficult as I keep most of them in a vault when I don't wear them so I don't have them all on hand at once. You can see them in my instragram posts. The watches I wear the most are as follows... Rolex Explorer II 16570, Rolex GMT Master II 16710, Panerai PAM 287, Breitling Navitimer A13322, Omega Seamaster 2531.80, Seiko Monster SRP307J1, Seiko Sumo "Blumo", Seiko Presage Cocktail, Hamilton Trent Automatic and a half dozen more that I don't really wear...

      Thank you for the quick response, I appreciate you taking the time. I see that your tastes have changed. Would you mind explaining what got your back into the higher tier watches?

    • @JANTHONYCHANNEL

      I stopped caring what people thought and decided to buy what I like as long as I could get it for a fair deal and it would be reliable and hold it's value in case I wanted to sell it. All the watches I own meet that criteria.

    For $50.000 i would buy a beautiful collection of watches. Not one.
    Rolex Submariner 7000
    Rolex Explorer I 6000
    Rolex Explorer II 6500
    Grand Seiko Snowflake 6000
    Omega Speedmaster 3500
    Tudor Black Bay 3000
    IWC Ingenieur 4500
    And then some.. :-)

    The issue with watch is not only the preposterous price but also that it is very common. You see it all the time, almost as bad as the the Submariner. That makes it very ordinary. The design is cool though. P.S. subsceonds are not a complication, Center seconds are.

    the watch is not 50k.... its $39,870.00... quote the new watch price.. not the second hand market.... those are over inflated prices.... now if u wanna title this video “Is the 5712 worth 50k on the second hand market?” then ok....
    in that case u might as well name it “Is the 5712 worth 80k on the second market?” cause ive seen that price just as many times as 50k...

    • @JakeAikens

      There is not a Patek AD that will sell this watch for MSRP. So that’s nice that you can look up prices on a web site, but you have no understand of what the dealer is going to quote you when you walk in. Not to mention the waiting list and the fact that if you don’t own 3 or 4 Pateks already, they really don’t care to talk to you. So you can talk about 40k all you want, that’s cute.

    This watch does absolutely nothing for me. It’s ugly in my eyes, totally overrated, way too expensive. None hacking 3 Hz movement is the same as a Seiko 5 or SKX and this watch costs tens of thousands right?!
    The P.P movement is nicely decorated but that’s the only positive feature OF THIS WATCH in my view. Would I ever desire or buy this piece? Absolutely not. The perfect watch for people with more money than sense.

    The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712 is a beautiful watch but it is not my style a watch. Patek Philippe Nautilus looks like a 1970s watch. I prefer more modern looking watches like Vacheron Constantin Overseas and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. I am not going to pay $50,000 for a stainless steel Patek Philippe Nautilus when I can buy gold Rolex Submariner or Yachtmaster with gold bracelets for $30,000. If I am spending $50,000 in a watch it have to be a gold watch.
