This was the watch that got me into this expensive hobby. It is really cool looking watch and absolutely beautiful in metal, people who criticize the dial layout need to see it in person before judging. The movement is absolutely amazing and that micro rotor is so charming. The only flaw is the clasp and the bezel being scratch magnet. Thanks for the video
This is my favorite nautilis. Mostly for the lack of symmetry. It's quirky and different, but it's not boring, and that's why I love it. Now granted this might be one that I admire from afar and if I ever get a hold of it in the metal, it may change my mind. But for now.... Ill keep dreaming, and love it.
Thanks for the review....I have owned a 5712 for just over 5 years. Awesome piece and I wholeheartedly agree with your comments other than those on the clasp. Delicate....yes, weak....hell no!! Of all my watch collection...APs FPJs, Rolex, Blancpain and VC, the finish on my nautilus has stood up better to scratches than all the rest (bar the bathyscaphe ceramic). Nice to see the 5712 getting some love.
On my last trip to London on the train, a guy got on at Stockport and sat across the aisle from me. I noticed his Nautilus and said he had a nice watch. He took it off and handed it to me to check out, it turned out to be a forty year anniversary 5976/1G in platinum with diamonds as hour markers. It put my Daytona 116520 to shame. Patek owners seem to be very nice, approachable people.
The reason they can be approachable is that only another watch enthusiast would recognize his watch. A sport Rolex is much more recognizable and easier to fence by criminals so the Rolex owner has to be a bit more careful.
If someone notices my watch and compliments me, I almost always ask if they would like to check it out! I'm glad to hear that others are like that too.
Loving the last couple videos. Like where the direction of the channel is going. Keep using the exposure of the channel to show us some awesome watches! Cheers!
Great video...this watch is a real grower...the asymmetrical-ness of it is a strange grower too!!! I really enjoy taking time out to share in your enthusiasm too...oh and great macro work sir! 🤓
Patek 5711 is also my grail watch. I have debated with myself if the price point is truly justified. Ultimately, I reached the conclusion if I can afford a $30k+ watch then I deserve to treat myself to the finer things lol. Also, I really like how this hands-on session was filmed with the lighting and blacked out background to focus only on the watch.
After owning both the 5712 and 5711. Your comments on the dial being disorganised is really true thou. In contrast the 5711 be it white or blue dial the symmetry of the 5711 is perfect.
This is a very very nice watch. A sports watch that would play position of coach instead of player. And we know how important the coach is. Great video
The movement is extraordinary! Maybe I would have to see the watch in person to appreciate it's design because on-screen it appears visually dissonant. Excellent review!
Hand made and hand finished by astonishingly skilled people. That's not cheap. There's a lot of time and effort in watches at this level. And that's where the price comes from. It's different than Omega and Rolex who give more of the manufacture over to automated processes.
Great detailed review once again. They moved on from Geneve seal because they feel some “lower” quality watches like Cartier was able to attain the seal. And they don’t want to be accompanied by Cartier. Omega Meta is 0/+4 i think, not -2/+2. Regarding the clasp, they don’t have that much choice to be honest. Maybe other option would be push button butterfly clasp but that would be harder to make it this thin and elegance. The ball bearing is very hard to open on my dad’s example too. So it’s not feel like coming off. It’s even annoyingly tight that my dad always complain when he wear it on special occasions. (It’s 5711R though, not sure if the steel clasp are this tight too)
This is a really awesome watch. I like the 5712 more than the 5711. The Nautilus design was unpopular and deemed ugly back then and now it is selling for double the retail. Crazy..
I know this video is a bit old but I’m just enjoying going through your videos as I just entered into the watch world a few months ago and discovered your channel. You mentioned that the PP stamp/seal shouldn’t be there as it isn’t necessary. Patek logo is already there and Patek wouldn’t sell a watch with a movement that doesn’t comply with their standards. However, is it not the same as the superlative label on all Rolex dials? I think they’re doing it (as Rolex is too) to differentiate the old movements from Patek/Rolex that didn’t comply with Patek/Rolex current standards. I’m just starting to get into watches but it feels it could be a good reason for the PP stamp/seal. BTW: love your channel and how you communicate your passion and information about watches. Thank you. Sorry for my English, I’m still learning.
Nice one, Adrian. While I’m admittedly not the world’s biggest Nautilus fan, this 5712 piques my interest far greater than the standard 5711. You have to love a Complications Patek Philippe in a modern sporty suit (I consider the Nautilus to be sporty dress watch, rather than a sports watch).
I like the symmetry on the dial and feel this is a bit busy ...Wearing a 5711 feels like butter and the dial is cleaner...Also the annual calendar is nice ...Your quality of video is great
@@BarkandJack There has to be some chaps in London who would have a 5711 for u to borrow...Orherwise come over to the US of A :)...Anyway the thinness of the watch makes it light on the wrist unlike any Rolex as u probably felt...The clasp leaves something to desire for but when it closes the bracelet looks uniform...I have the white dial which I like because it's more legible
I have tried this watch on a couple of times and agree with you on 1) feels so light & delicate which I dislike 2) the clasp is so difficult to open it feels like I will break it or rip my nail off lol. I much prefer Rolex super case & satisfying click of the oyster clasp. Saying that... I would give my right arm for a 5711 white dial!
Hi Adrian, I agree the 5712 is a great watch. I had a 5711 but traded it for a 5712. The 5711 was terrific but maybe just a little boring. The asymmetrical dial of the 5712 is completely charming -- I might be in the minority here. One correction: It's the heir to the 3712, not sure that there is a 3721. I agree with you about the clasp - it is secure but feels cheap on such a beautiful piece. The other real design flaw imho with all the Nautili is that delicate brushed bezel. With use it gets dinged and scratched and doesn't look great. Anyway, really enjoyed the video.
Hey, Adrian! Really starting to enjoy your videos and the content on your website! I was wondering if you ever plan on releasing any leather straps on your shop. I recently bought a TAG Heuer Carrera 5 for my birthday and was considering switching to a leather strap. If you ever do release a leather strap I'd almost certainly buy one, I'd love to support the channel. Thanks for the videos!
Cool video mate. Just note Master Chronometer tests set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) have a criteria of 0/+5 seconds per day... Not -2/+2 as you stated 🤷♂️
I'm not so keen on these watches and that is in part due to the way they have to be acquired. You rarely hear owners talking about watches. It tends to be more a game of letting people know whether you are a) rich enough to get it at retail or b) rich enough to pay the crazy mark ups. Assuming the money was available, it would be better to go for a beautiful dressier piece along side a solid sports watch that can be used for sporty endeavours. But, if showing off is the vibe, then this is one of the hot watches to have.
I know you can play this game at every price point but for the same price you could have: a fifty fathoms milspec, a yachtmaster, an explorer, an explorer 2, an aqua tera and that jlc master control secor dial. Is that one watch worth the same as all of these really? Or does it become a way of displaying wealth a la richard mille all be it in a less garish fashion?
You can only wear one at a time though and its quite likely someone who owns one of these will have had rolexes and other brands prior to the nautilus.
Curious how you would feel about the aquanaut and the security of the clasp on the rubber b. I also agree the 5711 is the cleaner model (i.e no date vs cyclops)
Your videos just keep getting better and better. So smart of you to review high-end watches from your viewers’ personal collections. (Keeps you impartial / independent.) You know, there might be money to be made sponsoring dinners and meet ups in different cities. Just a thought.
I agree with you mate, just too much clutter on the dial much prefer the blue 3 hander. Never really appreciated how nice they were till now. Have to say though ‘Sports’ my arse, its a dress watch that looks a bit sporty as it’s on a bracelet. 30k is pure madness for any wristwatch incidentally! Have to commend you on the quality of the photography and video Adrian, whatever you bought it was all worth it. 👌
Hi Adrian, wanna ask you a nerdy question. Do you align minute hand on your watch to position witch is corresponds to minute marker and seconds hand to zero position or you just skip this 'little things' and align it roughly?
Adrian buddy.... since going full time your content quality has gone through the roof! The macro and video quality of this upload is stunning! Keep up the great work... you are creating shock waves in this horological community.... and that’s a good thing! When asked if I had the $37,000 USD to buy this watch would I, you stated ‘hell yeah’! My sentiments exactly! Question.... if having the cash to buy this watch was a reality, do you think the wait would still be 5 years?
It’s a dress sports watch like a submariner is a dress diver. Amazing movement and that’s where the moneys gone. The service schedules are a surprise. I suppose if you can afford one it’s the least of your worries. The new breed of omega movements have a 10 year service schedule and they feel bomb proof. I’m looking forward to seeing his other stuff. Was the owner pleased with it? I think Patek is about as good as it gets before you go into 100k plus money although if I had the cash a Royal Oak would be tempting. Great review thanks 🙏
I don’t know, the Nautilus line doesn’t do much for me, call me crazy. Patek make some drool worthy dress watches, simply timeless and hits all the marks on what a dress watch should look like. Glad to see this watch is being worn and not stored in a safe. PS - interesting comparison on the Cal 3000 vs. this Patek’s Cal 240. I have to ask though, could you throw the Patek against a wall like your Rolex and it still run? I’d put my money on the Rolex taking more of a beating and still keep fantastic time.
Tom Khong Its not about the WR to be a sports watch and there are other thinks to care about than a WR on a watch. Anyway you dont need to buy one and even if you want to you couldnt buy one at your ad 😂
@Will Harris my point was that it is such a stupid comment to make for someone who makes a living off these videos. It is just a blanket statement and doesn't say why he feels that way. It also doesn't say which Rolex.
Adrian, great vid as always. Please do the same thing with the Overseas to see what one loses in terms of value, design etc. Hard to see the PP being worth sooooo much more.
It truly is incredible looking wrist art! I would love to own one myself, nice to dream though. You can get it without waiting, pre-owned for two to three plus times the suggested retail price! Depending on the model! Crazy isn't it?
Hey Adrian. Thoroughly enjoying the channel sir. After watching this video it got me thinking about the virtues of having several nice pieces against one absolute banger! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this? A subject worthy of a video perhaps? Anyway keep up the great work, Ryan.
Very nice. Loving the fact it's a slim watch as in the thickness. It's not my personal favourite patak but still wouldn't turn it down. I'm watching this video after hours looking for a iwc spitfire 39mm. Just over 4 grand. One extreme to the other. Would like to know people thoughts on the iwc spitfire. Even though I've already made my mind up that it's the next watch for me. Makes a change from rolex. Great video. Will check out your straps for my future iwc.
I love the IWC Spitfire, I have a few IWC and would love the spitfire as it’s so pretty but my wrist are too big for the 39mm. I have IWC big pilot and IWC big pilot perpetual calendar which is my favourite watch of all time. I also have a few other but won’t bore you with them. You won’t regret the 39mm spitfire, very good choice 👍🏻
@@farshadghafourpour4796 thanks for reply. I have a slimmer wrist so I tend to go for 36mm to 40mm. I'm going to pull the trigger on the spitfire soon.

Great vid, great vibes. 👍 Who doesn't like the 5712 or Royal Oak, but how can they be called sports watches with only enough water resistance for the rain. Then don't get me into the service periods and costs, all you guys on Instagram showing off your watches - please also show your tears when you receive your service bill. Tim Yo 50m water resistance, you call it sport watch ? Strange
Tom Khong Its not about the WR to be a sports watch and there are other thinks to care about than a WR on a watch. Anyway you dont need to buy one and even if you want to you couldnt buy one at your ad 😂
Tim Yo yes, AD told me wait list is Long, so while waiting, I put my money in shares. 😂
I'll stick with Rolex .. but quality video as always ...
Terry Brigden Rolex durability!
According to him this watch "craps on Rolex"
@Will Harris my point was that it is such a stupid comment to make for someone who makes a living off these videos. It is just a blanket statement and doesn't say why he feels that way. It also doesn't say which Rolex.
Terry Brigden do you really have a choice? Hahaha
Luke M just to clarify, it cr@ps on every single rolex bar none....
If add to choose from this two whish one would you take and why ?
Please
Patek 5712
Rolex Daytona green
Adrian, great vid as always. Please do the same thing with the Overseas to see what one loses in terms of value, design etc. Hard to see the PP being worth sooooo much more.
Great vid Adrian!👍🏻
Thanks Hisham, always a pleasure having you here.
It truly is incredible looking wrist art! I would love to own one myself, nice to dream though. You can get it without waiting, pre-owned for two to three plus times the suggested retail price! Depending on the model! Crazy isn't it?
Great video.
Hey Adrian. Thoroughly enjoying the channel sir. After watching this video it got me thinking about the virtues of having several nice pieces against one absolute banger! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this? A subject worthy of a video perhaps? Anyway keep up the great work, Ryan.
Good one.
David Griffiths then it will look great on your wrist. Are you buying from any particular retailer or off Chrono24
@@farshadghafourpour4796 hi. They only came out this year not many pre owned around. Some on chrono 24 .I'm based in UK so may use ad local to me or wait and see if chrono 24 in the uk have any. I like the simplicity of the watch and 39mm size. Much bigger looks to big on me.
@@farshadghafourpour4796 meant to add in previous text the big pilot is stunning watch. I'm also looking at various jlc watches. Like the master control range.
Great vid, great vibes. 👍
Who doesn't like the 5712 or Royal Oak, but how can they be called sports watches with only enough water resistance for the rain. Then don't get me into the service periods and costs, all you guys on Instagram showing off your watches - please also show your tears when you receive your service bill.
Adrian I really hope you get to.try a VC Overseas, with the best bracelet and 150m WR. Especially the V2 dualtime.
How do we "charge" or "recalibrate" the Power Reserve?
I m big fun of ur video.. I always wait. U r video.. I m collectors off time peace.. waiting to have in my collection moon watch
Great video. I'd love more of these personal reviews of watches we don't see everyday.
Hopefully more viewers open up their collections.
Why haven't you people subscribed yet?
Thanks a lot Darryl. Glad you liked it. More videos like this will be coming very soon. 👍🏻
