Actually, I don’t. I may not be wealthy enough to bribe ADs to put me on a supposed waitlist for a lazily-designed watch that only its mother could love, but one day I may be. Because I don’t like the Cubitus Thierry Stern made it clear the watch is not for me, which suits me fine. If fortune smiles on me financially and I’m able to spend $40k on a stainless steel trinket, I will take my hard-earned cash to a alternative high horology brand that respects me as a customer and earns my respect in return. That will give me the kind of positive appreciative feeling Patek clearly no longer cares about. I’m sure that, despite its crude appearance and unattractive name, the Cubitus will have no trouble finding enough insecure rappers and D-list celebrities willing to buy the thing for the status bestowed by the name on the dial. If it makes you happy, fill your boots.
For a brand like Patek, to have an uninspired design like this is a sin. But to have their president commit what to me is a philosophical suicide was the killing blow. What used to be the North Star for horological excellence now represents a tasteless hype machine.

Most, 99% of people don't know anything about watches. I learned after 40 years as a collector that at the end of the day just buy what you like. Most people don't know what you have.
Patek is not good with this "modern" design, even the Nautilus is a copy of the Royal Oak. Patek is the master of complication and classy style. Cubitus is just ugly and boring, it looks like a copy of the Casio Royal at this point.
We can debate for hours about that. The looks, the price, etc. I heard one creator say basically that because it was a design from Mr. Stern himself, it went through the whole process until production because he is just surrounded by yes men who will validate everything he says and does. We see that in many corporations in the world. It does make sense. Especially when you know that it won't really matter because these things will sell like croissants to who it was always targeted at: their hardcore fan base already customers (never has it been thought about for new, younger customers, this is delusional and out of touch with reality, which I think is the case of Mr. Stern sadly)
This isnt the first patek flop. They made a lot of flops after the nautilus that people seem to have forgotten. Just because its a PP doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed.
I think its not even about how it looks. Its the fact they had 25 years to come up with an exciting piece and basically just changed the shape of already existing model.
This trend is followed by Rolex as well. When was the last time we got a new collection from them (Cellini excluded). It's pretty easy if a company gets to only produce it's "greatest hits" and never have to innovate new design or deal with the scrutiny of risks. Us as consumers need to start holding them to a higher standard and withhold our purchases if they refuse to grow.
@miabeatz80 I guess everybody is just used to with Rolex "signature" and did not expect it from Patek, which is considered the #1 watch company by many.
I remember an interview with Jean Claude Biver in which he recalls a Gerald Genta story about the origine/inspiration for the Nautilus "imagine you put the Royal Oak 50 thousand years on the beach, and after 10 thousand years you take the Nautilus out of the sea, and you will notice that everything has become round". I have the feeling Patek Philippe fell asleep going back in time and woke up to an edgier Royal Oak :))))
Stern also wanted to distance himself from the Nautilus, he wanted people to think that Patek was just the Nautilus. Finally he released a new watch that was just a degradation of the Nautilus.

I have been waiting for this video from you, @TheoandHarris. Big Patek collector here. I believe that this watch just doesn't make any sense. Imagine Ferrari would release a car with Enzo Ferrari's face across the whole bonnet of the car. Already the idea of it just seems silly. But the Cubitus goes even a step further. Your are essentially taking the most successful design of the most successful designer of the modern watch era (Gerald Genta) and changing it in a way that unmistakably screams: "Look at us, we are even better than Genta himself." It just seems extremely arrogant.
Additionally, why would you take something that is perfect (the Nautilus) and try to adapt it slightly? You would only do this if you actually believe that you can do it better.

Obviously the price point is ridiculous and it’s aimed for hype buyers who look at people like Mark Wahlberg has on his wrist, who imo buys every single new sports watch just to say he got it first. I really like this release, Why? Because I now love my Cartier Dumont way way more. I just enjoy the Dumont esthetic showing how a proper square should be done.
The patek version of the casio g square. It is not a royal oak version as many think, that is different shape. You can only make a watch in so many shapes, I don't think it is a horrible as people make it out to be. Cartier has many a square watch which work. Apple watch, JLC and vacheron is a rectangle that runs long with the bracelet. I think here lies the design issue that watch runs wide on the wrist perpendicular to the band. Something we are less conditioned to seeing. It is not a bad iteration of the nautilus in another shape. I think without wearing it I would reserve judgement.
Picked up a AMZWATCH's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
I don’t think the design is terrible, it’s just looks like an uglier nautilus. I think the people that buy it are doing it to eventually get a nautilus from an AD.
It looks so weird. The band doesn't look like it belongs with the case. The center links look puffy and round while everything else is brutal angles and flat surfaces.
How do you compare the look of this as compared to watches along the line of the Santos De Cartier? It's an integrated square sports watch. I prefer the Santos, and I think the complications are ridiculous. But the base model (forget the price, that's insane) as compared to a Santos - it's not REALLY that different. And the Santos is one of the most loved watches in the world.
The Cubitus isn't any more odd than the A Lange & Sohne Odysseus, or the Parmiagiani Tonda. The only difference is that you cant help but compare the Cubitus to the Nautilus; whereas, the other two watches come from a blank slate. Years from now, when we have all forgotten about the Nautilus, the Cubitus will just be seen as nothing more than the mass market brand of High end horology ( A Lange makes in the hundreds, while Parmiagiani in thousands... Patek in the 10,000 + category). Patek is the Rolex of high end horology.
I heard what happened was a kid fucked up the CAD files for the Nautilus at take your kid to work day and they didn't save the originals so they went with this.
I noticed this watch at a glance on a poster. I passed by it thinking that Cartier was headed for a lawsuit for copying the Nautilus bracelet 🤷♂️ .. some days later I found out this watch is PP 🙄

Agree, if they wanted to make a Royal Oak / Santos version of a Patek, they needed to change the bracelet to match the design aesthetic of the case rather than just throw on the nautilus bracelet
Absolutely agree on what you are saying at 10:15 and I hadn't even thought about it in this way. But what PP (or Mr. Stern) really is showing with this release is how little they think of their customers and watch enthusiasts in general - "we'll just make it square and up the price, they will buy it anyway!"
I bought a watch from AMZWATCH lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
Thierry Stern said a couple of years ago that he didn't want Patek to be a one watch brand like AP. Also, I think he is a bit worried about the frustration among Patek fans about the unavailability of the steel Nautilus when it was in production. The Cubitus might be Pateks attempt to make a steel bracelet dressy sports watch available to Patek fans. A watch that isn't immediately ripped from the shelves by flippers and non-Patek customers who only want the Nautilus. For that to happen they must make a watch with less mainstream appeal than the Nautilus, at a price point not too easily available. Basically pleasing the Patek customers rather than the hype-world.

I assume that it’s going to be sold out because customers have to buy whatever their AD invites them to buy. The question of taste is really only relevant on the secondary market.
Definitely up for the extra lifestyle content ! I think the watch is not that far from being good looking, had it been smaller and less "sharp" with a custom bracelet, I think it would have been a good looking watch
There are so many aspects to the cubitus. 1. It is not very original, basically a nautilus dial in a square box. Plus a date stuck at the top. 2. But, and this is how I truly feel, this watch looks very interesting. And to me, it is quite beautiful. If I have to attach labels, then I would reserve the term ugly for the aquanaut. And the nautilus is odd and only through getting used to it may one find it beautiful. 3. The seemingly simple square design introduces an interesting tension between a dynamic impression and a static case. Very modern, yet with staying power. 4. Bottom line, I find this the most beautiful and attractive Patek, and if it wasn’t so outrageously priced, I would go for one. Remains to be seen if this line cannibalizes nautilus and aquanaut sales, or adds to them.
I personally don’t hate the platinum one with the complications. I think without the complications the dial feels so empty. Also it looks much better with a strap over a bracelet.
Nice to see MAMACOO show a watch that can be afforded by almost anyone rather than these pieces costing thousands and thousands which are out of reach for so many.
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. AMZWATCH watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
I think it’s going to grow on people. If you like square watches to begin with, some people do and some people don’t, then honestly it’s just a square Nautilus. The Nautilus has always been an awkward circle in a square and wasn’t well received when it was introduced either.
I don't think the design is that bad. It was just a lazy design on Patek's part to simply make a square version of the Nautilus and the CEO's arrogance in the criticism of the watch.
I really think the only thing they got right is the name. It has to be a clear reference to Cubitus Varus, which is literally a DEFORMITY ON THE FORARM, which is exactly what the watch will do
I agree with the comments about the price point, but I quite like the design, especially the green dial, stainless version. I don’t think the renders do it justice. The videos I’ve seen of the watch being worn throw a different light on how it wears and its proportions.
Many of Patek's watches were hated at release by the watch community. The simple reason: the watch community has no style. Go to your local watch meet up and you will be shocked at how poorly dressed everyone is. If Patek took style cues from the watch community every watch would look like a Submariner
The photos starting at the 8:23 mark gives me Apple Watch vibes. Like someone at Patek said, theirs a market we need to get into at 40K a watch. Wish I was in the tax bracket to own a PP.
The impressive stats of 45 hour power reserve and 30 meter water resistance justifies the steep but approachable price of this quadrangular sports watch.
It is not a new line (like e.g. the 11.59 from AP was, even though I am not a big fan of that, as well), it is mostly a more expensive, squared Nautilus. It is nothing of what Patek advertised beforehands and it is surprisingly undaring and uninspired after 25 years of waiting. I truly hated every word from Stern in the interview after the release and 40.000 Euro for the new entry into the Patek family for the younger audience are nothing but a bad joke. Also, I personally never felt the urge to buy a squared watch. BUT: tried on all of them last week at my AD and have to admit: it’s not that bad in real life. The size for one is actually fine. Still not considering it, though.
The Aquanaut and Nautilus were also not well received but turned 12:02 out to become hits. Agree that this design is less likely to become iconic. The price is rediculous and PP is really not interested in “poor” people.
Can not agree more with what you have just said, Christian. I mean wtf was Mr Stern thinking .. talking about a watch like a cabriolet.. a new innovation.. and then bringing this. I think it’s boring from a design language, it’s just a square Nautilus. It’s also against the trend of smaller watches.. They could have at least invent a new bracelet, or dials, even the one with complication looks so much like the 5712. Echoing on his interview statement: I may not have or will have a PP, but I can still have taste ;)
All luxury goods need the 'hype machine' aspect to survive, but the ones that survive provide consumers plausible deniability under the real aspects of high horology and innovation. This watch openly announces 'the emperor has no clothes, what are you gonna do about it?' and only despots around the world(the real target demographic maybe?) enjoy that kind of thing.
I think the stainless version without complications is actually quite nice, I get why it's not everyone's taste. Spending Patek-levels of money on a watch has always been stupid and ridiculous, so why not have a design language that reflects that?

Just get a Santos and save a lot of money.
Women love cartier too. I bet 9/10 would choose the santos.
Great episode. Thoughtful, honest and cogent.
I heard what happened was a kid fucked up the CAD files for the Nautilus at take your kid to work day and they didn't save the originals so they went with this.
I noticed this watch at a glance on a poster. I passed by it thinking that Cartier was headed for a lawsuit for copying the Nautilus bracelet 🤷♂️
.. some days later I found out this watch is PP 🙄
Introduction of the Patek Nautilus sports watch. First order devolution Aquanaut. Second order devolution Cubitus. Third order devolution = sports watch extinction.
Does anyone else see the irony in advertising squarespace while dunking on a squarespace patek design?
Like the video style,
Prefer the setting to your recent videos also 👌🏼 sounds like you’ve pivoted and given some real thought to what you think your audience will enjoy! Excited to see this new content 😁
Agree, if they wanted to make a Royal Oak / Santos version of a Patek, they needed to change the bracelet to match the design aesthetic of the case rather than just throw on the nautilus bracelet
I love this Patek Casio hommage.
Absolutely agree on what you are saying at 10:15 and I hadn't even thought about it in this way. But what PP (or Mr. Stern) really is showing with this release is how little they think of their customers and watch enthusiasts in general - "we'll just make it square and up the price, they will buy it anyway!"
Patek should not make a homage watch
From the design to the name it’s truly a joke. A derivative disaster of a legendary watch.
Turns out they built a mega factory to they need high volume watches now
I bought a watch from AMZWATCH lightly used for my last milestone birthday.
When people are saying MAMACOO is a better option for buying a watch,I very much agree!

Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!AMZWATCH watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.

Total AP move. This type of behavior is going to start backfiring on Patek.
I assume that it’s going to be sold out because customers have to buy whatever their AD invites them to buy. The question of taste is really only relevant on the secondary market.
Definitely up for the extra lifestyle content ! I think the watch is not that far from being good looking, had it been smaller and less "sharp" with a custom bracelet, I think it would have been a good looking watch
i really don´t understand releasing a new model in 25yrs,looking like a square nautilus....???
Are we pretending that PP has never made an ugly watch before?
So many sheeters in their back catalogue. People think they dont make mistakes
I believe no man can say no to AMZWATCH's watches
Can you do a comparrion between Cartier Santos and Patek's Q? Why do you think Santos is a better design?
I personally don’t hate the platinum one with the complications. I think without the complications the dial feels so empty. Also it looks much better with a strap over a bracelet.
110% agree, "This watch is not great"
Congrats Thierry, you beat Trump Tourbillon for the best design of the century !
VC Fiftysix* , not Fifty-Seven. And, I actually think it was well executed. Now as for the Cubitus, 🤢
Nice to see MAMACOO show a watch that can be afforded by almost anyone rather than these pieces costing thousands and thousands which are out of reach for so many.
Stop maintaining these flim flamming cockaroaches and their go fast red car and CRM Jewelry raffle sketches
This is a great watch for rich people who wants to lose alot of money with poor taste and deserve to be ripped off by Patek and dealers.
Smart move. ‘Anti-hype’ is just as good as ‘hype’. People always always want to be unique… like everybody else.
It’s ugly like the nautilus.. hype shit ..
Where's the link to your new jacket...?
It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. AMZWATCH watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?
I think it’s going to grow on people. If you like square watches to begin with, some people do and some people don’t, then honestly it’s just a square Nautilus. The Nautilus has always been an awkward circle in a square and wasn’t well received when it was introduced either.
You are NOT WRONG!
What a garbage piece.
Patek trying to be balenciaga
I don't think the design is that bad. It was just a lazy design on Patek's part to simply make a square version of the Nautilus and the CEO's arrogance in the criticism of the watch.
I really think the only thing they got right is the name. It has to be a clear reference to Cubitus Varus, which is literally a DEFORMITY ON THE FORARM, which is exactly what the watch will do
I need two of them - one for each wrist. Then I can bang them together like cymbals in an ode to Patek’s glorious democratization and design.
I’ll stick with VC and FP Journe. True innovators.
Where’s the link for the jacket ?
I have to say that AMZWATCH 's watches are amazing!
Each their own. I absolutely love the new design.
I was eagerly waiting this specific video and it was more tame than I’d expected tbh.
I think the stainless version without complications is actually quite nice, I get why it's not everyone's taste. Spending Patek-levels of money on a watch has always been stupid and ridiculous, so why not have a design language that reflects that?
