Just played this game for the first time at my local arcade tonight, and the first thing I thought was, "there's no way in hell anyone has 1 cc'd this game". I can't believe what I'm seeing!
Awesome display of talent sir. I forgot all about this game. Always thought of it as a game that wasn’t worth the time. But after seeing you play it, I wish I had this game to play again.
A lot of it is luck. Power ups are random in location and item dropped and the game can screw you or reward you. Honestly, I thought one credit was impossible.
It does require a wee bit of luck playing alone. mainly cuz of scar face. if the game refuses to give you bombs and shriekers, there's not much you can do. Scarface nearly always takes a few lives from you. Mutoid man is easy even single player, and Die Cobros aren't so bad until your speedup wears off if you play smart. MC Mayhem is just like mutoid man, but you have to be a bit more conservative because of how fast he bounces around at times. Beyond that, if you miss even one speedup you are usually toast. the later hordes of monsters can't be taken out with just your pea shooter and no speedup. Don't waste powerups. This means don't shoot at nothing, and don't grab the nuke until you actually need to or it's almost gone. It's a lot easier two player because while there's more monsters, they are split between the two players. half go for one and half go for the other, and you can kill them twice as fast with two shooters, so even though only one player gets the powerup, you still nearly always survive. and it's easier to get all the powerups with a second player to help.
When I see this game, I think of one line... "You cold-blooded bastard! I'll tell you what I think of it! I live to see you eat that contract, BUT I HOPE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY FIST, BECAUSE I'M GOING TO RAM IT INTO YOUR STOMACH AND BREAK YOUR GOD DAMN SPINE!!!! LAAAUGH!!!" - Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Running Man
@@zaphod77 Also, Smash TV has difficulty ramping based on the daily high scores. Not a problem for MAME players. But if you want to attempt a record on the actual cabinet in an arcade... check the daily list first.
@@JudgmentStorm yeah. i've heard that rumor too. but i don't think it's nearly as much of an effect as the settings in nvram, which can be set to make powerups deplete stupidly fast and then the game is just unfair.
the AI seems to be hesitant to approach you initially, has the game code been modified?? asking for a jealous friend who has never managed to complete this, i believe this as legit btw
looks legit to me. revision 8.0 is a bit easier one player, as it lets the powerups last just a BIT longer to make up for you being alone. still requires a wee bit of luck, especially with scarface.
@@foarfield It's legit. You are allowed a certain amount of contact time with enemies before you die. you can't see it, but it slowly recharges. This is also why people say to fire backwards when you try running through enemies, and that they can't hurt you if you don't see them. It's a lie, but your shots will kill them faster that way, because they spawn far enough back to actually come out of the gun. This means less contact time, and a chance of living. Also dying a lot will give you pity contact time. Me and another person were able to beat the game on earlier revisions with 3 total quarters, so i can believe this is legit.

Dude, you play it as a master. Congratulations.
This is really impressive, I've always believed this game was impossible to 1cc
That's because you probably haven't seen or experienced beating the game with only a single play before watching this :P
I assumed it was impossible too as the game is so cynically unfair, like all Midway titles.

It’s not real at the end you can see “end playback” meaning this is tool assisted

Since when do you get forcefield with the mortar?
You get a forcefield with the mortar or the grenades if you're fighting Scarface.
