"This is a song from your favorite album" the way James smile after saying that made me laugh
Ahahahah!
It’s mine
Me too 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Como diciendo ahhh se la creyeron ilusos!!
I love how unapologetic they are about this album. James wrote what he was feeling in a dark time and I really respect St. Anger for what it is.
If they played faster and made the songs half as long (or even shorter than that) some would be pretty decent hardcore punk. There’s a lot of emotional weight it was just a really poorly executed album
Each Metallica member contributed to st anger even Phil helped with some lyrics
@@AnnoyingOrange420 always said that rock screwed them on this because songs are decent. There is a guy on RUclips that re-created them and they are awesome
I do too 👌🏼
@@clintdickerson887 Many have said that it could only have come out sounding the way it did, and Rock kept the band together by not forcing them to realize how shit everything was. Not sure which is truly the case but he certainly didn't hold it to the usual standards. There are all those videos from the Black Album sessions of them arguing, Bob basically telling everyone to stop fucking around and get it right. In the footage of St Anger it seems like he's avoiding serious conflict as much as possible
They all laughed when Kirk wrote "My lifestyle determines my death style" and then it become the most prominent line in the song. Nice work Kirk.
I always thought of that as one of those "holy shit, that's good" type of laughs...
He can be a good lyricist . Don't u remember the traffic school song which he wrote and created a laughter .
@@ashoknagaraj3706 Really? No I can't say ive heard that one sounds hilarious tho!
I didn't know he came up with that. That's really cool.
It's also cool that he did some of the backing vocals here
He actually wrote the full segment/chorus as well. "A rising tide that pushes to the other side". They were all lot when he read it jjj.
Honestly I missed Kirk screaming YOU LIVE IT OR LIE IT! xD
And on top of that, they absolutely killed this performance!
His mic is too soft though it seems lol
@@mrheadlessa yeah they got to turn that part of the mix up!
I loved when he grabbed the mic and pulled it so far to sing it. Thought he was gonna drop it.
@@RobbieFitzgerald it's bc they have all the mics to James' height and Kirk is way shorter than him lmfao
@@xarch7208 I think he was standing too far back and figured that was easier. He would have one mic set at his height, as would Rob.
Favorite album? Come on, that's clearly Lulu!
🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️

Metallica is good. But Lou Reed was the greatest artist of all time!
LMAO NOOOOT
@@dnmoscato92 r/whooosh
I listen those both albums more than I do some other Metallica albums. But good thing is to like every album, not just some albums like posers do
Metallica: the band that, even if you don't like the studio version of a particular song, can make you *LOVE* the live version of said song.
The trash can
Unfortunately even live, those terrible lyrics are there.

@@german2501 so true, all within my hands it's worse
I dont know about now, but the original cd release came with a dvd where they played each song live, in their compound. I listen to that version in lieu of the studio.
The record has its challenges but "Frantic", "Some Kind of Monster", "St Anger", "Unnamed Feeling" and "All Within My Hands" are great songs!
Sweet Amber is cool too.
Imagine the "kill kill kill" part orchestrated
The Unnamed Feeling is super underrated man
I feel like St Anger is James’ love letter to his demons when he was at his lowest. Yes it was not the best Metallica album but you can tell James really put himself out there with the real dark lyrics from each song.
@@Oscar-qh7vm
I think that St. Anger is a misunderstood and underrated album.
I love when Kirk screams "YOU LIVE IT OR LIE IT"
You live in a lion
@@yuuyjaaj6721 you're living a lie, yeah! You're living a lie, yeah!
I was thinking the same thing. He sounds awesome.

James looks much better and his voice has improved, love him.
since 2018 or 2019 he does some great performances on live, it's great to see that he keeps working on his voice
He looks strong and fit. I'm happy for him
James is my HERO!! He is such a great guy. His singing and down picking is are on fire and he looks healthy and happier than ever!! Metallica rule!!! 40 years in a band is a HUGE achievement!!! \m/
Fcuk favs! I love them all 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I swear i've seen a comment like this on metallica videos for the last 10 years, claiming that james voice has improved and that the band is getting so much better.
Unironically one of my favorite albums. It's a literal revelation of the band to the fans, a show of what happens when you carry tons of emotional baggage for decades and never address it, which perfectly explains the raw and unfiltered feel of the album. Give us more St. Anger!
It's a really great album, but the best hidden secret it had was the rehearsal DVD that came with it, because the snare sound was normal, lol. But after a while you get used it on the album.
I love the entire St.Anger album, and I love the snare, if I want to hear a "normal" snare, then I listen Ajfa.
3:54
James “RIFF!”
Best part of the song by far
As James put it, this album was misunderstood. It has a very special place in my heart because it got me through a terrible time.
Same man. I love the entire album since I relate to it a lot. It is SO underrated.

@@rixmean9448You really thought you did smth 🤡
Sounds so much better though live than it did on the album, better guitar and drum sound improves it no end!!
It's very good but it sounds terrible on St Anger
Frantic is one of the most underrated Metallica songs. It fucking rips so hard 🤘🤘🤘🤘
This song sounds like a million times better live than it does on the album
I've been saying it since 2003, it's a great song, just the sound is terrible!
@@gymguy25 Have you seen the saint (b)anger? All instruments played again and it sounds MASSIVE
Because Rob is nailing(there was Rock on bass who is their friend but he's not on Metallica level and his mixing was bad), Kirk makes solo and Lars is playing normal (although his reggae/dub sound was kinda unique)
Gotta love Metallica for playing so many songs that are 'less popular' instead of the obvious ones lately! Frantic is amazing!!! 🤟🏻🔥
The songs off of St. Anger are actually really fun to hear live. You get to hear the songs on Lars' normal drumset instead of the St. Anger tin can snare drum lol 🤘😎
wish they'd still play some more death magnetic though
@@Metalpug79 YEAH!
Yeah same, specially st anger and death magnetic, i love these albums (death magnetic literally top 4 Metallica album)
seriously! they've been doing some good ones lately, glad their mixing deep into the rotation!
So humble he can crack a joke about himself and laugh..
Yea that was good
🤟🤟
It's good that St Anger is getting a lot of recognition, it always has been a brilliant album since the beginning
agreed….i think people hate it just to hate it. just to complain. cause their friends hate it, and have clogged ears.
it marked an important era in this band’s history….and probably IS the reason why they decided not to break up
It’s not a terrible album at all, it’s just that the studio album’s mixing is pretty bad. The drums overtaking the guitars isn’t great. If that problem were to be fixed, then I would think it’s a really good album.
@@damiencurrency15 They should release a remaster then
"but the snare" 🤓☝️
Lmao no. It’s Metallica trying to copy other bands, it has some good parts on each song but they are immediately ruined by the bad lyrics and production. Also mind the fact the songs are long for no reason
I really like kirk's backing vocals in this show and song in general
st. anger in its entirety is underrated as fuck. love that they're playing shit from there again.
It is not at all underrated. It deserves all of the hate it ever got.
I also like st anger. Shoot me again is a great song
No it s not
"Some Kind of Monster" *IS* a monstrously great song! There's much to like on that album.
lol
Love the addition of a couple of solos from Kirk.
Yessss. Had to go way down the comments to find this. But yessss!
Agreed
I remember him complaining about not having solos when recording the album on the some kind of monster movie
Kirk is awesome at them solos my personal favorite Holier Then Thou.
He nailed it
I love how Kirk is singing very passionately.
Too bad he sounds laughably bad lmao
The way Kirk adds a solo to it really helps this song! Man it really makes you wish that once they make a deluxe version of this they go back in the studio and re-records it with added solos and removed snare and in a much better sound!
If they ever thought of doing a St Anger remaster, they should just re-record it instead and add solos and clean it up. Definitely a favourite Metallica album of mine as it is, but would be nice for a cleaner and more refined version.
@@JWinnie04 i agree, what st anger has beneath it's sound is great music that cries for having more refined sound, solos and better mixing.
nah, it's highly unlikely they'd do that, St Anger will turn 20 next year so they'll re-release it, but Im sure it's just a re-release, I mean for the anniversary of And Justice for All they never remixed it to have bass again, with lars stating
"These records are a product of a certain time in life; they're snapshots of history and they're part of our story ... And Justice for All could use a little more low end and St. Anger could use a little less tin snare drum, but those things are what make those records part of our history."
so yeah, highly unlikely.
@@JWinnie04 More like a remaster, it would be an remake

St. Anger NEEDS more live show love, especially Sweet Amber. I think I would implode if they ever performed that live again. These setlists have been NUTS lately!
Sweet amber . Hero of the day and The memory remains should always be in
I was at this show and after seeing this I 100% agree. People were going hard when this song came on and the band members were having a lot of fun with it (especially Kirk with the solo he never got to record).
I would love it if the played sweet amber. I think they've only played it live once or twice but it's such a great song to listen to and also fun to play on guitar. They need to bring it back
Now all of the sudden everyone likes this album... I ALWAYS DID!!!
I know few people will agree, however in my book St. Anger is one of the best sounding records ever made.
When I listened the first time I didn't liked it, especially the sound (Snare??!). But then I digged in and I'm still blown away! The sound and music is rough, edgy, uneasy, the opposite of generic and has tons of punch. It's their unintended and underrated masterpiece. I love it!
Listening to these more recent performances got me to go back and listen to the album a few times this week. I think the album has a number of classics. It starts off strong with the first number of songs and then gets to Invisible Kid and continues to suck ass for a few songs. It picks back up by the end. The drumming is actually really amazing in a few songs and the snare works but when listening to the whole album it does start to hurt the ear drums. I'd say the worst thing I can say about the album is many of the songs do not deserve their long run time. They are repetitive and lack the musicality of the earlier Metallica while having the same runtimes.
They should reissue St. Anger for its 20th anniversary.
If they do I'd love it if they included all the unreleased songs from the Presidio sessions.
Damn I cant believe it has nearly been that long .... Man where has the time gone .......

With a normal drumsound and solo's a lot of the St. Anger songs are great tracks.
I honestly loved Saint Anger. It might not have had Metallica's best songwriting or production but it just felt so honest and raw, it was a *fascinating* collection of songs.
I honestly agree with you. The only two issues I have with the album are how unclear the guitar sounds and how high the snare is tuned. It would be great if the snare was tuned lower, and I mean way lower, but overall, the album is still pretty good. (Though I hate Invisible Kid so much, it's just bad to me.)

It's amazing what a proper snare sound does for the songs off St. Anger. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Idk if it’s just me but I’d love to hear them play that ending riff faster like it is on the actual song.
It is studio tempo
Really? It sounds a lot slower.
I just tested the tempos & it turns out I was right. On the studio album it’s about 30-40 bpm faster than when they played it live.
@@toxiide you do realize that 30-40 bpm is a ridiculous amount. More like 5-8 bpm slower
@@RaaZVan99 Oh wait yeah I tested it again I was a bit off. It’s actually about 20 bpm faster.
A couple years back I saw the joke about “Your favorite album” being posted by one of Metallica’s social media pages and I hadn’t heard anything off of the album called “St. Anger” and I listened to it and actually enjoyed most of the songs. Can definitely see people’s problems with the album, but everyone’s got their preferences. I, for one, enjoyed it. The more Metallica the better💯🤘
The songs on this record have so much more potential than what was captured in the studio. The intent of the record--to capture a group of guys just getting together to make music like they were in a garage or something--is understood, and was achieved. St Anger sounded more like a preproduction demo than a finished album, and it would be awesome to hear how these songs would have come out with final polish and production.
These guys are 60. Incredible they’re still able to perform like this.
That snare is still engraved into my mind.

I was very young when I first listened to this album and the older I get the more I understand the freshness this album brought with it.
I actually really like the lack of soloing on this album. Just give me the meaty riffs man, this is so RAW, just like all of those things that we feel in our ugliest times that James knows how to surface them so well. And his voice on this album, god damn, it's like he went down the darkest pit of anger, where we've all been there at some point. I think all fans have this feeling that James and us know each other at a personal level. I guess that's the power of good music 🎧👌
James seems to be having more fun playing this song than anything from the first 5 albums.
Even Kirk with the backing vocals
Probably because they don't play it as much. The old stuff is probably getting old for them after 30-40 years
