He really is. And when you see at the end how he dresses, baggy clothes. He looks like he’s going to a HipHop concert lol. And that’s the vibe he brings. He’s that kid that plays Funk and Jazz but shocks you when he rocks out. He’s smart because Funk and Jazz are the elements of all Genre of music. Especially Rock/Hard Rock Metal. People yell that’s white music… nah lol. Rob is that element that was missing. He adds that LA Latino flavor 😆. We put Sazon and magic blooms 😂.

  • @EdGloss

Rob rips them all. I met Lars, Jason and James outside their studio in NYC while they were mixing/recording the Load album. James a total asshole to us, Jason was in a rush but still gave us a minute and was super nice and Lars hung out with us (my group of four or five and two or three other people who had also heard the rumor of Metallica being in town) for what had to be at least fifteen minutes, perhaps longer. He literally just walked into our group as we were talking about the album and even stood behind my friend (a drummer who idolized Lars) asking us not to say he was there as my friend was talking about Lars. Then Lars made a made fun of his own drumming and my friend turned and started arguing back and it was a couple of seconds before he realized who it was. Then he leaned against the wall and just hung out. We asked him about the new album and he was pretty honest. He told us it wasn't heavy and that he didn't like it. We thought he was joking and he basically said that old school fans won't like it and how right he was (horrible album as were all the albums after Black until Death Magnetic and even Black was just decent compared to the rest of their stuff until that point). I'm not someone who cares one bit about famous people and have never cross the street or run over to meet a celebrity (I see celebrities fairly regularly given I live and work in NYC). It just doesn't do it for me but I went to meet Metallica because I was a teenager and figured it didn't matter if I smoked joints outside my house or outside a recording studio. But it's nice to know that the people who have entertained you for so many hours and have provided the soundtrack of many events of your life are decent people (except for James but he also could have just been in a bad mood). My sister and my wife (then girlfriend) met Kirk the day before and my sister asked for the cigar he was smoking and he gave her the last half. My wife asked him for a cigar too and he gave her a new one and even signed it. We smoked some of the used one and one of my friends used it to roll a joint. I wonder for how much the signed cigar would sell on eBay. It's around twenty years old but I put it in a glass cigar case. I know he smokes Cubans but it's been so long that I have no idea what brand it is. I highly doubt he gave her an expensive cigar and I likely would've remembered that.

I like Lars' demeanor - he gets into what he's talking about and seems passionate about the music and his craft. I was never a huge fan of Metallica - I did listen to Puppets quite a bit and went back to Lightening and then Kill Em' All - basically the Cliff years. As for the cigar part of the story I had a similar experience when I met Chet Atkins (Country guitar legend) waited in the back where he took a shuttle after the show. He finished his cigar and threw it on the ground. Of course I grabbed it after he was gone - I must have lit that thing up 10 times over the next few years.

Rob was definitely having fun, testing out the Basses, playing to the fullest. I’m sure he was nervous but once the music started and just went all out. And he wasn’t trying to be cool, chill or like a boss. He played his way and it fits. And it’s the reason why he’s still in the band. Granted Cliff was cut short in life but who knows, might’ve left too. Rob was the one the band was waiting for and he makes them sound incredibly better. Robert does an extra pull-off/hammer on that clearly sets him apart as the most skilled bass player @1:12. Plus he can go goblin mode the entire time because the riff is unconscious to him, the rest of the dudes are standing there, totally focused, trying not to fuck up. I'd take Robert as well

Was there ever any doubt?! Dude was in Suicidal Tendencies. He can play Metallica standing on his head. lol. He is not only a good bassist, but he's got guitar chops too.

It usually has nylon strings, like the classical guitar, but it generally possesses a livelier, more gritty sound compared to the classical guitar. And is different in it's features and construction than a classical guitar"

3:19 - Lars marvels that Rob's playing on "Sad But True" was "flawless". In a recent interview, Rob has said that he didn't really know "Sad" at the time of the audition, but he picked up on the feel of it right away. Proving there's a lot more to being a great musician than knowing what notes to play.

The thing I love most about Trujillo is that he is really such a shy, low key kind of guy..UNTIL.... he gets the bass in his hand and then he turns straight beast. He's not some idiot trying to "LIVE" metal by doing ever stupid thing he can to ruin his life. He "FEELS" metal when he plays it. Two very different things to me and I so respect him for becoming and being the artist he is! GREAT PICK METALLICA!!!!
