He was even in a Yellow Pages commercial where they randomly stopped people on the street to ask if that person can think of anything that couldn't be found using the Yellow Pages. The caption listed him as a "professional musician", which he is, but it was cool to see him pop up in a commercial while he was playing in Suicidal. BTW.. he asked for a kilt when queried by the commercial host.
Rob is an excellent Metallica member. I loved Cliff and Jason as well. Each one brings something unique and different to the table. But, at the end of the day, they are amazing musicians and they freaking rock!
he still feels like the guy that agrees on everything james and lars want without debating, though. which might even be needed for the band to work at all. still feels like he did not change their music like jason and cliff did. might be wrong.
I think it's hard to quantify, but I also think you are overestimating Jason's contributions(and I like Jason). From a pure songwriting credit stance, Cliff and Rob are close, with Cliff having very, very obvious influence on the band and the sound. Dude was insane. Jason has three song credits, the only one of which I think is worth noting is Blackened. I just don't see how Jason changed or added to the band outside of being energetic in live shows and giving 120% all the time. Justice was not a bass friendly album, everyone knows, and his skill was not on display there at all. The black album sound had far more to do with Bob Rock than anyone, so I don't credit Jason with that. Load and Reload were good in their own right, but not great. More hard rock than metal or thrash. I think it's fair to say the three albums Rob has been on have been a better mix of old and new, but I can't say that's on him. I like all their bassists, but I think Rob gets the short end for being agreeable when he is an extremely talented guy. Think about it this way: he was pushing 40, was basically a touring or session musician for most of his career and this gig falls in his lap. Wouldn't you be a yes man and do whatever the hell they needed so you can be a part of something great and also create a new life for yourself?
I was fortunate enough to be in a band that opened up some shows for Infectious Grooves in the 90’s. Rob was such a good guy and crazy good bass player. In fact the entire band was good, genuine dudes! I’m glad he found some success with Metallica and hope he doesn’t feel a bit stifled in the band. No disrespect to Metallica in anyway as I’m a fan for sure, Rob’s just that good lol!
Lights, Camera, Revolution! Friend of Suicidal "Cyco" Miko, if it wasn't for ST, it would have just taken longer for us to find out about Robert Trujillo. He's been a part of metal and country bands. Yes. Country. I recognize someone from the Metal community defecting over to the enemy. Robert is one thing: omni-capable. Don't ever stop, Rob!
I'm extremely happy for Rob. On the other hand, I'm extremely sad I'll never get to see that true Trujilo style on stage again. Highly underrated and grossly under-used. Are you listening Metallica?! Probably not lol but one can hope.
So that explains a LOT about why when he showed up to the audition, he had to borrow a bass from them. The man literally cut a vacation short to go meet with them! Now THAT deserves some massive respect!
If I recall correctly. One of the biggest points that got him in was that his style of playing resembled Cliff's. I also recall on one of the Ozzfest's that Jason was playing w/ Ozzy. Then I saw that Rob was playing in Metallica. I think at that time it wasn't know then that he was the new member or he was just filling in for live shows or something. #quadstatecameras
Cliff and Jason were different but both brought a very high, professional, level of musicianship ánd energy to the table. Rob T is the best of his predecessors combined! He has thát groove and swagger, he's a true professional and very versatile musician, he's cool and level-headed, good sense of humour too... It's great to see that Lars and James nowadays (hasn't always been the case) fully acknowledge that too, because I suspect Metallica will be finished if Rob were to leave. Rob's playing is exactly what keeps James' riffs and Lars' tempo fluctuations connected.
Dude has played in so many awesome bands... Suicidal, Infectious Groove, Ozzy, and now Metallica. Couldn't happen to a better guy. And he's a monster bassist all around. Can play hard fast and loud, but can get down and funky too lol.

They scored bigtime when they got this guy. Great bass player, great choice. Got me back into the band in a big way.
He’s a good bass player with a long career. Such a humble dude
Love Rob's Ozzy impersonation. Need to hear some more of that.
Rob is an amazing musician and a freaking sweetheart
DUDE !! 😀 He Sounded Just! like Ozzy!😄✌️😎🤘
Sooo proud of my friend from Culver City
I'm extremely happy for Rob.
On the other hand, I'm extremely sad I'll never get to see that true Trujilo style on stage again.
Highly underrated and grossly under-used.
Are you listening Metallica?!
Probably not lol but one can hope.
That's cool. I've seen the whole band live, but not all together. Rob was with Suicidal Tendencies when they opened for Metallica.
I seen him when he was with ozzy. Then when ozzy did ozzfest again it was with jason newstead which was really cool to see
How could he be like wow this isn't real playing Metallica, he was playing for Ozzy Osbourne probably the biggest name in the rock & metal world.
I don't know Rob personally, but he sure seems like a great guy! Love his playing!
Rob seems like such a genuinely good person.
This is the most ive ever heard Rob speak, hes pretty personable. They should have him talk more.
I remember being so happy for him.
So that explains a LOT about why when he showed up to the audition, he had to borrow a bass from them. The man literally cut a vacation short to go meet with them! Now THAT deserves some massive respect!
Awesome player! Helps that he is one good lookin’ guy too! 😊❤

I love Rob's impression of Ozzy. Lol
That was actually a pretty accurate Ozzy impression.
I honestly think they couldn't have gotten a better guy for the job
Love Rob, no better fit!!!!
