It’s interesting that the STAP required a pilot and wasn’t a dedicated droid with processing, because it’s role and design philosophy would’ve made more sense if it was a droid instead of vehicle+b1 battle droid
It was actually designed with droids in mind. It gives organic riders cancer. They are however based on civilian craft ment for organics. The idea is a cheap upgrade to the civilian airhook vehicle, the engine upgrade being simple power upgrade and not needing the additional radiation shielding an organic pilot would need to ride it safely. But it doesn't need to redesign the controls/balance/etc that switching it to an automated system would need. Hence the humanoid droid pilot. So yeah, its a good thing anakin lost his legs because that probably saved him from cancer.
It's just cheaper that way, givng them a dedicated brain or transmitter would make them more expensive, and that money would virtually be wasted all the time they weren't in use, because they could do only one thing. So it's more cost effective to man it with the droids that do everything else in your organisation anyway. The whole idea of basically all Trade Federation Vehicles is to keep the costs down. Their effectiveness in their role mostly comes second.
The STAP doesn’t look like something that would be safe for any organic pilot short of Anakin Skywalker to pilot. The posture that B1s have to assume to use the STAP would be really uncomfortable for an organic, and they’re far more likely to fall or get knocked off of it than with the BARC speeder.
On one hand I agree with you on the other hand pretty sure Obi-Wan did it at one point… maybe it’s a Jedi thing or another ‘Obi-Wan is great pilot, it’s just Anakin is always around being an exceptional one so you don’t think about it so much’ XD
In the original battlefront game, on ps2, I actually like the stap better than the speeder bikes, since they aren't as fast giving me more control, and the blasters were also more powerful with a shorter cooldown.
This will be a hard one though I never saw any STAAPs crashing into terrain without being shot at or something also they can fly so can be used pretty much anywhere
I'd actually disagree with the final diagnosis. I'd say it depends on the battlefield scenario. If you're looking at it purely as a reconnaissance vehicle then I'd say the STAP's superior communications make it the winner. If the BARC encounters the enemy and is taken out immediately, all you know is "something is there". In the case of the STAP you have the full analysis uploaded to the droid control ship in realtime and so will have more information. Also, if your reconnaissance vehicle is likely to be taken out you'd prefer the cheaper option. For every other battlefield scenario, yes the BARC wins hands-down for the reasons stated.
That means that people who make the sci Fi cars like warthogs and batmobile will start working on aerial models, like the banshee and of course, these two
8:28- Some one literally made a STAP in Spore. Also you have to admit, The STAP’s ability to directly relay info instead of the pilot needing to is pretty smart
I’d love to see the BARC speeder as a personal aircraft being used in real life. I could even imagine it as a way to travel over vast rural to get to your desired location in a fast fashion.
the BARC looks BADASS and we see them escort and even rapidly destroy an ARC-170 during order 66, so they have TONS of power behind those 4 blasters as well. this thing is basically a light airfighter posing as a bike.
The STAP at least did what no BARC could ever do: It put a temporary STAP to one of General Grievouses rampages during the battle of Boz Pity, though granted this was with a little help from the (at that point quite fed up) Windu blowing it in the right direction.
Ik the stap can fly but can't the barc as well? We see them all around coruscant during TCW flying but I'm not sure if the GAR used ones that were only grounded.
Without the plot armor I wonder which tactic overall would be better in a neutral environment? To compare the vehicles themselves is just comparing a nice mug to a foam cup.
barc was definitely a better craft but i could still see a reason to deploy a disposable droid scout that will probably die rather than risk a barc and a clone. and as i saw mentioned, the barc has to make it back for you to get information, the stap doesn't. it might just be a better scout overall, especially if you were to create a modified droid with various sensor packages, it would probably still be cheaper.

The idea is its a cheap upgrade of a civilian craft. Improveing its engines and repulsorlift generators without the need to overhawl it with improved safety measures (such as safety straps or radiation screens taht organic pilots need) or integrated droid brains.
@@matthiuskoenig3378 I feel like you don't even need a specialized Droid brain. If the B1s can pilot it, than a B1 head could simply be plucked off the assembly line and wired into the controls. Then use that saved droid-body weight to put on some bigger guns, or even just a bomb.

From what I seen in the clone wars series STAP can hover in higher altitudes than BARC ever did so doesn't that gives STAP an aerial adventage ?
The Sidecar reminds me of the Bikes used by the Wehrmacht. I can imagine biker guys in the Star Wars universe taking these out for rides.
