  • Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a non-surgical treatment option for adenomyosis. In this video, Dr. John C. Lipman of Atlanta Fibroid Center explains how the procedure works and what to expect after the procedure if you are suffering from adenomyosis.
    UAE helps women suffering from adenomyosis avoid hysterectomy. It's a chance to preserve your fertility and avoid surgery.

    How do I set an appointment up with you? Currently suffering from adenomyosis and severe anemia .. insurance won’t approve hysterectomy until I try something like this first.

    Dr I have no fibroids, no big and bulky uterus upon mri and upon transvag ultrasound, no globular uterus. Mri with contrast shows JZ thickness 15.6 mm … that is the only finding. Is that “suspected” adeno? Or adeno? Tubes open upon HSG,
    Clean hysteroscopy, mild arcuate uterus, endometrial biopsy only showed 1 single rare plasma cell, I do have painful periods on day 1,2. That’s about it! On 1 month of depot lupron prior to embryo transfer. Ended up with 1 embryo. Just was gonna see how adeno can affect it if we are using lupron and if I would need UAE to get rid of adeno? Please reply thanks so much

    Doc, sorry its not about adenomyosis but about polyps. Can polys goes undetected by pelvis MRI? Coz my oby told me I have polyps when she did papsmear. But in my MRI and ultrasound it goes undetected. Is it possible to go undetected by this two exams coz she wants to do surgery for polyps

    GE Doc, my doctor offer me A UAE but after my Mri scan he stated this procedure may not work because of the bulky fibroids and the size of the fibroids but he said it might not work and it's just a slight chance, he suggested a subtotal hysterectomy will be safer I'm so confused right now by this coming may I should give them an answer about which procedure I will take

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  3 года назад +21

      In my opinion, hysterectomy should be a last resort and only offered after UAE. The success rate for UAE is 90%. Yes, it might not work, but the chance that it will not work is less then the chance you will have a surgical complication during your hysterectomy. Also, hysterectomy often has significant consequences to women, whether it's psychological (like a man being castrated), sexual (loss of libido, loss of orgasm), urinary leaking (needing to wear a diaper), bone loss. It's just not necessary. UAE will very likely give you the relief of symptoms you're looking for, you will avoid the risks/long recovery of surgery, and importantly you will get to keep your uterus. A subtotal hysterectomy is absolutely NOT safer than UAE. Your Gynecologist is a surgeon and surgeons like to operate. The glass is 90% full and the Gynecologist is telling you the glass is 10% empty. Please get a second opinion from an experienced Interventional Radiologist. Our website (ATLii.com) has a lot of information on fibroids and UAE. There is no reason to lose your uterus over benign fibroids. I wish you good luck and good health !

    What medication is used to stop bleeding until a surgery is performed?

    • @sportsmd85
      @sportsmd85 4 года назад

      There are medicines that can stop the uterine bleeding temporarily. The most common medicine for this is Lupron. It is typically given as a monthly injection for three (and up to as many as 6) months or occasionally as a 3 month "blast" all at once. There are a number of side effects with this medication as this puts/throws you in to a menopausal state. The most common is irritating hot flashes. While you might not be able to undergo surgery due to the level of your bleeding (and your corresponding iron and hemoglobin level) have you considered not undergoing surgery at all? Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a completely nonsurgical, outpatient procedure that treat fibroids very effectively (over 90%), allows women to avoid the risks and long recovery of surgery, and allows women to keep their uterus (vs, hysterectomy). Because there is no blood loss (it's not surgical), it doesn't matter what your iron or hemoglobin level is and you could avoid Lupron (or other medication) altogether. For more information on UFE, please go to ATLii.com or email me directly at john@ATLii.com for any additional questions. Good luck. John Lipman, MD, FSIR

      JOY NAKIA Rapper Singer Before UFE or surgery?

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  4 года назад +4

      Lupron is a medication that is used to stop bleeding. It puts women in to menopause. This buys time for the gyn surgeon to boost the patient’s iron and hemoglobin to allow surgery to be performed. UFE is nonsurgical and unlike surgery there is no blood loss. Therefore Lupron not needed. Have u looked into UFE? Learn more at ATLii.com. #DontLoseUrU Good luck.

    is it effective if adenomyosis is diffuse?

    • @Atlii
      @Atlii  Год назад +3

      Yes. The clinical success is 75-80% versus 90% for fibroids. Definitely worth doing because the only other option which has been shown to work in the majority of patients besides UAE is hysterectomy. Hysterectomy should be a last resort option.

      Absolutely yes. The births we have had after UFE are typically full term and vaginal versus myomectomy which mandate that the woman deliver by more surgery (c-section).
