  • atlii.com - Learn more about uterine fibroids, hysterectomy, myomectomy, and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), usually the best treatment for a fibroid condition. Many women are subjected to the risks and complications of a hysterectomy or myomectomy, considered major abdominal surgery, when UFE, a less invasive procedure, is a viable option to tread their fibroids. Also known as UAE, uterine artery embolization, UFE provides women with an alternative that takes much less time, causes less pain, leaves no scars, and leaves the uterus intact.
    With over 25 years of experience and medical training at Georgetown, Harvard, and Yale Medical Centers, Dr. John Lipman is a leader in the non-surgical treatment of uterine fibroids. After treating over 6,000 fibroid patients, he is the world’s most experienced UFE physician. His state-of-the-art medical facility is a concierge medical practice treating women from around the world.
    Dr. Lipman founded the Atlanta Interventional Institute and Atlanta Fibroid Center specifically to treat fibroids and other women’s medical conditions. His facility is specifically designed to maximize comfort, privacy, and convenience.
    Recognized for his appearances on CNN, RHOA, and The Doctors, Dr. Lipman has numerous media references (USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Newsweek, ShareCare, and Web MD). As an international fibroid expert, he is frequently requested for comments in the press.

    I would wish to hear success stories of people who have had children after having the procedure. The fertility issue after the procedure is not talked about by either doctors or patients.

    A male OBGYN told me I needed a hysterectomy due to fibroids. I'm 48 & probably 4 yrs from menopause. I had a myomectomy 11 yrs ago & did a UFE 2 weeks ago on 11/12/2021 because the fibroids grew back. I didn't want a hysterectomy and am glad I had a UFE instead!!

      How are you doing since the UFE? How was the procedure in terms of recovery and pain management. I have a very low pain tolerance and I’m opting for UFE. I’m 42. Any info you can share would be helpful.

    Why is there no serious studies about fibroids. I am sure if it affected men, it would be done in no time.

    What happens to the beads? Do they disappear? How is it safe to block an artery? Will a patient develop scar tissue?

    I had this done on 8/8/2017. It is now Sunday and the pain is unreal. Doc said I should be up and around after hospital discharge. No way. The pain is unbearable. Was bedridden until 8/13. Add to the pain nausea, vomiting and constipation and now a hemorrhoid. Sigh. I don't regret it. But. Healing time has not been 3-5 days as I was told. From what I am reading online, it is more like 10 days recovery.

      Patient's pain after UFE is variable. In our patients, it tends to be 3-5 days with the vast majority of our patients returning to work in 1 week. Some of the variability has to do with the pain regimen that the IR doctor uses and some of the variability has to do with how patient's experience/handle pain. Some of the persistent pain may be due to the narcotic medication causing your bowels to stop up (i.e. constipation). I'm sorry that you are still in pain but I would contact your IR right away and let them know of your continued pain. Good luck. John Lipman, MD, FSIR

      Thank you, John. I was able to return to work half time after a week. I have a high tolerance to pain due to daily chronic and menstrual migraines, so I was blown away with this pain. After my knee surgery years ago, I was off the pain killers in 2 days. This UFE surgery was nothing to sneeze at. The stomach cramping may have been the extremely large fibroid that shrunk drastically after 1-2 days. I suspect the painkillers caused the constipation, I usually take no pain killers because they cause rebound migraines. So the meds were a shock to my system.

    of keeping your Uterus vs. UFE ?
    Does UFE have any information on if it causes Uterine cancer later?

    I was diagnosed with fibroids. I recently had my period last for almost 20 days. I have been experiencing the other symptoms mentioned. Low libido at times, craving ice, anemia, passing a lot of blood clots. I am also experiencing low back pain, pinched nerves on my right side and drop foot. Are these a result of having fibroids? I assumed that I really hurt my back.

    Great video. I have an 8cm broid.
    I've been considering embolization but i haven't had any children and was worried that this procedure may cause damage to the uterus. I have been researching but have been getting conflicting information; some say it's now safe for women without kids, some say its not. What is the right answer?
    Also, i have low iron caused by the fibroid, does this proceedure allow issues like this to be regulated once the fibroid has shrunk down?

    Please do your research UFE might not work, yes it stops your heavy period but you still have the fibroids. The fibroids might me soft or scarred tissue. If you want to have children safe your eggs before. You don't leave the same day with a bandaid, everyone is different. So much pain. Exercise, change diet and see someone who specializes in hormone therapy.

    • @sportsmd85
      @sportsmd85 6 лет назад +27

      With all due respect, all of my patients leave on the day of the procedure with just a bandaid. While you often have fibroids remain after the UFE (despite significant shrinkage), the symptoms should all disappear, and that's what it is all about. If a woman has fibroids and no symptoms, no treatment is warranted. Exercise and change in diet will help fibroid symptoms, but often are not enough to adequately control the symptoms enough for patients. UFE can provide the symptom relief a woman is looking for, allows her to completely avoid any surgery, and she gets to keep her uterus !

    • @janicealley5033
      @janicealley5033 6 лет назад +3

      Of course there are concerns with every procedure.
      At least with a UFE you may have pain. But, you also still have your uterus.
      Also with a hysterectomy you will have pain and NO uterus.
