    Just the information I needed. I've never made a perfume before, but last night I blended a little ginger and vetiver into some lotion to apply to my aching arm, and I was really surprised at how lovely it smelt. So this morning I have decided I would like to try to make a perfume using those two and found your video. Can you please recommend a suitable top note to go with ginger and vetiver. Also, for an oil based perfume (to be applied with a roller ball), what oil would you recommend? For using vanilla, can you use a good quality culinary vanilla essence, or is that different to a vanilla essential oil?

  • @Hayden_hardmoney

    Love, love, love this video. Also see how passionate you are about it. My question to you is about Oakmoss. It is so honey like and I’m wondering how to correctly extract it because when I do, since it is so thick, I can’t tell how much I’m using while making my cologne. It seems like one drop is like 5 drops of a regular oil that isn’t so honey like. Does this make sense? For instance I want to make it a base note but I can’t accurately know if I’m putting 5 drops or not since it’s so thick. Any input would be great. Sorry for the run on here lol😂

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 месяца назад

      Since it sounds like you're extracting your own (which is awesome), I suggest starting with very small amounts then adding more as needed. Let the combinations sit for several hours so you can get a sense of the final scent. :-) Good luck with that!

    Hello. Very good video. I am thinking of using this blend of essential oils in homemade beard wax. You talked about making a stock blend in the video. Can I make one (only using the essential oils) by using the ratio you use in this video to fill a 10ml och 20ml glass bottle, and then use that in the beard wax?
    And how many drops of the blend would you use in a can with 60ml beard wax?

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  Год назад +1

      Yes, you can do this with your stock blend. For 60 ml, I suggest starting with a 1% dilution, since it's so close to the nose. That would be 12 drops of the blend. Then you can adjust for more, if you feel like you need to. :-)

      Thank you, and welcome to the community! I made the video recipe for 2 ounces, but then ended up using a one ounce bottle for my dad. :-) You can adjust it for strength of scent to an extent. Just be careful of maximum dilution amounts for the specific essential oils. For example, a highly phototoxic oil like bergamot shouldn't be used at greater than 0.4% in a preparation. Just check all the safety for each EO, if you want different sizes. I hope this helps!

    Marketing to women, they WILL want a selection to choose from!!

      Thank you, T! I think sprays like this would be GREAT at Farmer's markets and also online. I mainly make up the blends for family, friends, and clients, but I suppose I could make some more videos! As far as figuring out the cost, you'd need to figure out the per drop cost of the oils, then do the figuring from there. Then I suggest taking your total cost (including the bottle and the label) and doubling or tripling that amount so you make a little profit. :-)

    Also I was thinking of making a blend for myself that was more on the fresh and airy side so what do you think of these oils I’m planning to use:

      There are several ways to make perfumes....you can certainly make a roller bottle or solid perfume style with the lipid oils. You could also make up the stock blend and use it at a 1% dilution in body lotion for layering, too.

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  Год назад +2

      Good questions! I use a higher dilution than most colognes, and I'm going to guess the scent may last an hour or more-- this would also depend on the person using it, as some people retain scent better than others. The scent bubble will depend on how much is used---but you don't want people more than a foot or so away smelling it, really. :-)

    • @HeidiVillegas

      Yes, it's best if you use the alcohol because it helps disperse the essential oils properly. It also preserves the cologne for a much longer time than just with water. Water sprays really should only be used for about a week without the proper amount of alcohol.

    • @HeidiVillegas
      @HeidiVillegas  2 месяца назад

      Most of the chemical, bergapten, and other furanocoumarins are too heavy to be vaporized in the steam like other terpene molecules. So, to a great extent the phototoxicity is greatly reduced or completed gone with steam distillation.

My daughter said it smelled like BO, (because of the Patchouli) and requested that I do not give it to my husband. I don't want to waste all these great essential oils. Oh, dear! Well, one thing to consider and probably the most important thing: What does your husband think of patchouli? He's the one who needs to enjoy it! Also, it's not super powerful in this blend, so perhaps add more of the other oils to offset the amount of patchouli.

    What is the total percentage of the combined essential oils for your 1 oz combination? Is it at 3%? I'm also wondering if the Cardamom Essential oil is like the Clove one as if so, it shouldn't be more than 0.5% of the total dilution of your 1 oz bottle. If so, how many drops would be allowed. Three drops just seemed to be a bit high for me but I could be mistaken.
