There are lots of things to consider when blending essential oils together, like the molecules that compose them, energetic affinities, the plant parts from which they are distilled from.... But probably the most important thing is how they smell together. If your blend doesn't smell amazing, no one will use it!
I’m actually planning to make with almond or avocado oil and mixed with essentials oil, but not sure how much of EO should I put on each 3ml bottle or mix all at once before putting into the bottles…
Society needs this knowledge. I live in Canada and I am tired of the toxic ingredients in beauty products, especially in fragrances. Thank you for sharing, chukran!!
@13:07. I found the part of holding bottles together to find a scent profile valuable. I never thought of that. And the idea of a lingering scent making it a one to three. All the information is technically valuable, but I knew all but the two I mentioned. This is a great presentation! 🤝🏻
Hello, I just stopped by to say that your videos are amazing and very clear and easy to understand. But I would like to ask how to blend best frankincense, tea tree, lavander, thyme and lemon to desinfect my baby's room air during winter time. I'm planning to use that blend with diffuser - also do I need to add a certain amount of wanter ( for example 100ml of water with 20 drops of oils). Thank you very much. Kind Regards x
I'd be cautious diffusing tea tree and thyme and lemon in baby's room...try watching my diffusing video about what not to diffuse? I'd just use frankincense and lavender...keep it gentle and make sure the room is well venitalted and the diffuser is only on for 5 minutes at a time
Hi, thanks for making this great video! I'm having trouble understanding how to refine the blend, and how choosing each oil’s note will help me figure out the right amount for it. Should I put more drops of oil from the strongest note?
What a simple and logical approach to something it seems complicated. Do you have brands of oils that you recommend? Like with all products they army all created equal.
Absolutely loved this! What an insightful video. We have just shared an ebook on the science and art behind perfume making for those who would be interested! 🧡
HiAmy enjoyed your content very much. Im am a total newly so this was very interesting and helpful. It is unclear to me when you determine your drops , now you determine those quantities remain for how much product and what other ingredients. Is it on a nutrial back ground the same for an ounce as it is for higher quantities? Is there a rule of thumb to follow?

@@officialamygalper okay. Thanks for clarifying. I will venturing into perfumery using natural fragrances/essential oils so I don't want to create a poison inadvertantly.
Hello, thanks for the info..one question, do you think it's good to use essential oils with carrier oil in a difuser? Or is it better to use just essential oils? For example i have the good samaritan oil with coconut oil as carrier oil but i notice the smell is not strong when put in a diffuser. Thank you
yes..don't add an essential oil that has been diluted in a carrier oil into a diffuser! It won't "diffuse" properly.....so only add pure essential oils.
Can we use single carrier oil instead of blending multiple carrier oil and single essential oil like 30 ml carrier oil with 6-8 drops of frankincense oil to make 1 % dilution? Is there any specific reason to add 6-8 drops of essential oil in 30 ml carrier oil? what , if we add more than 6-8 drops in 30 ml. does it harm you? Could you please instruct me what essential oil do you recommend for hair growth and anti wrinkle, spots and freckle for face and body? TIA
yes you can use a single carrier oil! I like to keep essential oil amount low to avoid the possibility of causing any reactions on the skin. Some essential oils are more irritating than others. For scalp cair I'd try rosemary oil, and for antiwrinkle and spots I'd like frankincesne essential oil
I have toyed with essential oils in the past. However, at this point I want to learn all I can to help my special needs grandchild. He had a traumatic brain injury during brith. I’m wondering if you know of anything that can help him with his ability to learn. Control seizures and cerebral palsy? He also is unable to swallow and is on a feeding tube. Thank you for your advice in advance.
Thanks Amy for a wonderful video as always very informative and simple to understand ☺️ I would like to know how much carrier oils should I use if i want to make a perfume to help with stress…
My bottle size is 3ml and I would like to make at least 6-10 bottles. I have EO of lavender, orange, bergamot, geranium, chamomile, that I can think it will work for stress… But I have to practice your technique of smelling the three of them and see how they smell… thanks Amy for your help ☺️
@@nancymc1812 so you are making just pure mixes of essential oils? In the 3ml vials? If that's the case, I'd first smell them together and see what resonates , and then try different amounts of each...making sure chamomile is the least amount as it can overpower the other aromas!
I want to make a lotion, salve, and body oil. I got the dilution tool app. But what I’m confused about is when combining multiple essential oils do I need to split the amount of total drops between them or can I use that amount for each…
That depends on the oils- However yes, that typically means the total amount of ALL essential oils combined should not exceed, in general, 5% of the blend. (Less for children and elderly, around 2%) Where it depends is the oils themselves, things like ginger, cinnamon, black/green pepper should always be heavily diluted. Whereas lavender and frankincense can almost be used by themselves / ‘neat’. So in an expert sense- it heavily depends on the oils used. However in general you should always be careful when the total % of essential oils approaches, or goes over, 5% of the end product. (If you find you need more strength than the 5% dilution look into infusing the herbs with your desired effects directly into the oil portion of your blend before you add your essential oils. I find a combination of infused herbs and essential oils is much more powerful than either method alone)
rachel! Wow, yes indeed that would make it vert difficult. What was the cause of your smell loss? You could potentially blend just thinking of the chemistry or each oil.
Thanks, I want to bend one blend for helping to sleep, calming, relaxing and muscle pain. I am thinking to use 2 drops of chamomile, 2 drops of marjoram and 3 drops of lavender with 50 mls of Sweet Almond oil. The other blend is using 50 mls of Sweet Almond oil, with 2 drops of chamomile, 2 drops of pettigraine and 3 drops of lavender for insomnia, fibromyalgia
Top, Middle and Base notes are also a great way to understand the aromatic potency of the oils! But perfumers categorized these - and they blend from a very different lens and perspective than aromatherapists do!

I'm using infused herbal oil for me and for my kids(curry leaf, onion, black cumin, alovera and hibiscus) can I add essential oil into this herbal oil for hair growth... And for 100 ml how many drops of lavender, peppermint and rosemary essential oil each.. Pls reply
for 100 ml container on the scalp I would use only 1% essential oil, so that would be only 1 ml total, or about 20 drops. So you can do a blend of those oils to equal 20 drops!...but I would not add more than 4 drops of peppermint into the blend. Make lavender the highest amount.
