    This is great! Ambivert is the word i've been looking for! :D I usually called myself Grey.. Just Grey.. Got it from Ying&Yang. But I think the idea of Ying&Yang is very flawed since the world we live in isn't constructed in light vs dark as mush as it is constructed in different layers of Grey. And I've been moving between Ying&Yang like a fliperball, not knowing which one I'm identifiable with. Tired of the need to "belong" to one side or the other I created a greyzone for myself to call my crib. It's nice to see that science is cathing up ;) Just kidding
    You're both amazing at your jobs and made me very happy indeed :D Ambivert, Extrovert, Introvert will be one of my lifelines incase someone scans and dismisses me in the future!
    Have a great day ya'll!
    Or not, everyone can't have a great day everyday after all.

    I got the impression you equate introversion with feeling down. That is false on so many levels and again so socially dependent you can't base anything on it.

    • @adirgeforher
      @adirgeforher 9 лет назад +3

      she seems to be saying that introverts need to recharge and sometimes withdraw, which is how introversion is described.

    • @mihaelrajh4249
      @mihaelrajh4249 9 лет назад +6

      She is saying that introversion is shutting down. In most definitions today introversion is referred to as a desire for less stimuli and aloneness, not feeling bad about yourself. Although that scan-and-dismiss bit was very relatable, it's about rejection and self-esteem, not extroversion. The way we deal with others is less about extroversion than it is about warmth, a different personality facet.
      Traditionally, it is not that introverts need to recharge and extroverts do not, but that introverts recharge by spending time alone and extroverts recharge by spending time with others. Also, the way she describes ambiversion continues the line of black-and-white thinking about personality. Not only people, but behavior can be ambiverted as well. Most people will not at times act 'introverted' (i.e. shy and quiet) and at others 'extroverted' (i.e. playing the crowd), but something in the middle, simply playing their part by both listening and talking.

    I am very extroverted but it is because I am so anxious my mind goes a million miles an hour. It makes me funny or intriguing but I am eventually annoying as I am always opposing what people say or believe not matter what it is. I should be an introvert but it seems I am compelled to shoot outwards to protect internally. It hasn't really worked for me as I have one long term friend and a spouse of 9 years but 3rd. I can see solutions and point them out but I am doubted always doubted or someone else takes credit. Should I become a hermit in North Dakota?

    I agree with the advice, but I disagree with some of the logic. My understanding of extrovert and introvert is the natural hunger for social interaction. It's part of your personality, and it doesn't change. It's also not the same as your actions. I think a lot of people gets it mixed up.
    Say, if my friend takes 10 times more social interaction to fill his social needs than I am, and by that I meant from the point of when you really need to socialise to the point of getting mentally tired. Then he's certainly more extroverted than I am. However, if we were to hang out in a bar and he can't stand the smell of alcohol, where as I'm a total alcoholic, I'd stay longer, feel more comfortable and appear to be more extroverted than he is.
    So what I'm trying to say is, technically, I don't think the situation can changes your level of extroversion, because it's just one aspect of you which governs your behavior. Something else is in play here; for example, everyone likes hanging out with close friends but not the people they hate, if you're extroverted or introverted should not be relevant.
    Vanessa is right in that most people fall in between anyway, so if you feel like you do well in some situations but not others, I'd say look for some other reason. I used to really hate talking to strangers, but that's more about the fear of rejection. As I got older it went away, and that's because I had more practice, I did not become more extroverted.
    But if you're really on one end of the scale, I think the important thing is just to embrace who you are, know your strength and weaknesses, and regulate your actions within reason. Like the recharging thing probably works for introverted people, or you can train your behavior in other ways to make you feel more comfortable, but there's not much point trying to change your personality, because it's pretty much fixed.
