  • It's been a while since I've posted where the build is at, so, this is what's going on. I'm going back and forth between a few ideas and would love to hear some feedback from the channel viewers.

Hi Dave, I have watched enjoyed a couple of your video’s. You seem to be having a good time working your way through the process. I know that it can be a bit frustrating, but as they say, no pain, no gain. In years past I worked as in audio sales. It was fun, I enjoyed helping people find their sound. The job eventually led me to the world of DIY. My checkbook could not keep up with my curiosity. I did several electronic kits for myself and others, and that eventually brought me to building a SET 2A3 amp from scratch, based on an article in Sound Practices. A tube audio magazine form the 90’s. The amps worked and sounded great. It was so fun.
I now, years later, I am dipping my toes into building some speakers. I am going to tackle some kits first, but I plan on building from the ground up. I have been gathering the necessary tools and materials to dive in.
As for your build, try not to get too caught up in the hype, and do what works for you. Something that you may want to consider since you have experimented with separate enclosures already for the low frequency section, and the mids and highs. Maybe consider using a dedicated subwoofer amplifier, giving you the ability to dial the bass in for your room and take that bass load off the rest of your system. The other thing would be that if you decide to work on another speaker project, it will be easier to integrate them into your system. Just a thought.
    Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for the detailed reply and sharing some of your experience. I have thought about bi amping the sub driver in a tower and making that it's own thing to take the load off the system, that has definitely crossed my mind. I've also got a few different ideas on how I might set that up. On the same note, I've also done some research with the idea of active crossovers, but there again it's completely untouched territory for me which is fine, but will require some research and learning. I'm okay with that but at the same time, like you, I'm trying to watch how much the hobby will load my cheque book as well.
Whatever I decide to do, I will share with the viewers of the channel, who knows what I'll come with, only time will tell.
