this morning i decided to quit music, too much negative thoughts about it were ruining my everyday mood, i took all my keyboards, the mic and all the stuff i used to do music, and throw it away. then i opened youtube after 5/6 hours of no-stop crying and this was the first video i saw, you made my day. i took back all the stuff and placed it back in place, i was 17years old when i started making music, now im 23, you saved the 6 years of my life that i spent on music, i can say thank you but you will never understand how much you've done for me with just one video. you're not just a great musician, you're a great person

You can throw all your instruments and gear away. You can stop singing, practicing and playing. But,you can not throw the music or musician that is inside of you away, nor can you stop it. Whether you make it your livelihood,or just use it for personal peace, fun or enjoyment,or all the preceding, does not matter. What does matter,is that you acquired all that gear and more in the future for one reason and purpose. And that reason and purpose is to have the ability to express yourself in your own way through these tools. If you sing, then you are going to have an even harder time trying to throw away your instruments. 😁

I'm going through this right now with my music. You are your own worst enemy. Everybody is. I only just started to learn singing while strumming my guitar two months ago and I've already written three songs. Some people may think my stuff kind of sucks right now, but I don't care, because I'm learning. Everybody starts at the beginning. We can't move forward if we don't try. Everybody, keep moving forward. Produce stuff for yourself. That's the key. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

There is some truth in here. For me its after 20 years of performing live still so hard to be happy with my performance. I feel a lot of shame. Imposter syndrome at its best.
I heard someone say: you dont even have to believe in you or your music, just do the work.
Figuring out what "the work" is, finding your weeknesses and then working on these things as much as you can is such a pain, but it will make you better, much better.

Needed to hear this. Really resonated with a lot of the thoughts I have everyday. Music consumes my life, I'd love nothing more than to work the rest of my life making a living from music. However, with such a small fanbase and limited capital, I know I may never get that opportunity - and that's okay. It's a bummer but I will still make music regardless if it's my job or a hobby. Its truly one of the most beautiful things we as humans created. Music is love.

I think having a good reason for making music helps to have a strong foundation. Even if my music is trash, I’m still going to create. If I don’t get this negative BS out of my head, it just festers and rots me from the inside. Regardless of the end quality, I make music because it cleans my mind and helps me be more present with my family

You make music because you enjoy doing it, it’s yours and you own it. Don’t look or compare with other artists, stay off social media, it will mess you up. If you really like producing music you would be doing it anyways whether you distributed to streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music etc. or not so just keep doing it. There is too much information on the web telling you what you need, how to do it, so many rules to follow and yes it does work sometimes but, everyone is different so do your own thing what ever works for you and enjoy it whether your famous or not - cheers!

I bet there are tons of people wishing that their songs were as good as mine. I probably would've too, if you showed me my current music when I was a beginner and told me some random guy made it. I probably would've doubted that I'd even make it there. The trick is to enjoy what you do, and to realize that you might be one of the only people who gets the ultimate satisfaction from your art. This is okay. I go back to my earlier works now and then, and realize that I was doing alright back then, and had good ideas, despite not knowing anything about music production... old ideas can always be recycled.
Thanks for this video. It was heartfelt and honest. Cheers.

The hardest thing about making a living from music is that when you get to a certain age. Life catches up with you and you have to go to work at a job you don't even like and every day you get up not knowing if you have 2 days, 4 months, 2 years, or potentially never before you can make a living from it. Personally, I live it extremely badly. I don't like my job but I'm still young and I hope that with perseverance things will change

Good to know I’m not alone on how you feel. I would often be afraid to write music. I would ask others if they felt the same way. Most would say, why would you be afraid? I had someone tell me that the reason I’m afraid to write is because each time I do I’m facing myself. Traveling to new frontiers. I remind myself why I do before I write and offers support to explore my mind. Facing yourself isn’t easy. If you can push through little by little, you can reach places that you would never thought you could. It’s a beautiful feeling. And yes documenting is important. It allows me to map out my thoughts and intentions. The more you do it, the more revealing who of you are is seen. Thank you for the wise words. My algorithm led me here and I was not disappointed. All the best.

i remember myself being relatively new in the producer world and hearing comments from a well-known producer on my beat. he said that i wasn't professional enough with this workflow, and giving me advice on stuff like ADSR, which i didn't understand a thing back then.
i was stressed, thinking that i could not make good music and i should leave the scene for a while, and wait for when i go to highschool (i was 12) to learn courses about music theory, mixing and stuff (in vietnam highschool entrance exams can be seen as life-changing so that's why i said i wanted to wait)... or maybe just quit.
but my impatience started to grow on me, so i kept training nonetheless, while learning new things day to day, just like you.
fast forward to my 14yo self now, i feel like i still have a lot of room for improvement, because i still haven't had the opportunity to study the fundamentals yet, because of the aforementioned problem. therefore, there are still a lot of days that i open my DAW up and have beat block. but hey, at least i have made better music than before, so i am confident about it.
hope my story reaches somebody. if you are reading this, keep on making bangers, and don't let your emotions stop you.

I dropped my EP a time ago. And it didn't get a response I expected and that led to my self doubt be more stronger. I got so tired I deleted my tracks from RUclips. And I decided to take a break, a social media detox. And whenever I feel like resuming I will Start making music again.
The thought that made me survive was - "every, time comes to teach you something" whether you are having good times or bad times. This motivated me to take break, or I had decided to quit music for good.
I would suggest any artist, if they are not feeling it in themselves about creating music or anything, to go on a social media detox, meditate, read books. This will also help you be a better human being but also will help your mental health.

I used to be this way, humbling my self made me improve, but at the same time I maintained positivity by eliminating all the negative things from my life (negative words, negative people, negative thoughts, hate). I eventually realized that its not about improving my life, it’s about improving the world as a whole; through that I unlocked unlimited motivation. I had a vision of how great this world could be; it has to start with you ❤.
I don’t want to get too philosophical, but once you walk through life with positive energy, you’ll attune to the positive energy of the world and bloom to become the best version of your self period. Your mind will function with a better flow and you’ll make the best music you’ve ever made.

Thank you for posting this so much. I haven’t yet experience this since I literally just started in the music making scene, but I could see that effecting me later on down the road. I have mostly noticed impatience rather than lack of inspiration.
Because I’m still heavily in the learning phase, school keeps me out of music, and I feel like I am going to lose necessary time meant for learning music, even though I just need more patience.
I mostly want to make some pretty underground types of EDM, which probably has some of the most amount of variability in creativity because of the different ways you can edit sound.
So far, I haven’t been comparing myself to other artists and thinking that they’re better, but I love seeing whenever they create a track that pulls away from their norm in order to create something unique in themselves. I want to be like that, making my tracks different every time because of my experimentation.

I'm really glad you made this. I've been producing my own music for over a decade and my production skills are pretty solid, but for various reasons I've never made much of a career out of it. It's really all I want to do though. I'm in a place now where I'm trying to get momentum to start producing full time. It's really refreshing and encoraging to see you talk about these darker moments we all have regardless of where we are in our process, because parts of everyones journey can be pretty rough, and depending on our mindset and personal circumstances I'v seen some really talented people defeated, and I've felt the same. It helps to understand why you may be feeling the things you feel and what you can do to put yourself in a better headspace, and we all owe it to ourselves to put in the effort to overcome these hard times. The beauty of being a producer is that we're all different, and it may be good to follow trends and such for business reasons but like the video mentioned, don't lose sight of yourself in all the marketing and social media. We're all artists and we can always grow and learn more and be better, and have fun with it.

I’ve been in that same place for a couple months too. When we’re in this state our brain makes us believe it’s always been like this and it always will be. But we’ve gotta remember it hasn’t always been like this. Life is constantly going between up and down/good and bad. You’re feeling that way for a reason and when it’s over you will come out better 🤞

Same here bro, when I first started I had so many creative ideas and enjoyed every moment of the process. Now I loathe the process and get super down, not everyday just some days.

Good tips, I'm glad I found your material.
I was thinking lately, that I got some kind of procrastination syndrome. What I mean is that I've got this feeling, that I've got enough and even sometimes better knowledge about playing and music theory, than people that can earn a lot of money because of their music online, but not enough knowledge about mixing, working with DAW, not good enough vst and so on. So instead of just focus on doing finally fucking music on my own, I'm watching a lot of tutorials about mixing, creating sounds, working with DAW/specyfic VST, I'm playing and testing my vst sounds etc. So this time maybe is not fully wasted, because I'm still learning something new that I would need in my work, but I can not get rid of this feeling, that I need to get to know enough, before I'll start to do anything and I do not like to waste time to achieve some effect that I want during composition process, not knowing how to do it. Like know your tools very well, before you start to use them. I can bet I'm not alone with my behaviour.

this is the poem I was searching for. Actually I'm having a job, being busy to earn money, on the other hand, I want to start out, with my music, what I learned during the last years, explore my actual skillset and improve it and yes I do music as an escapism but I heal myself partwise with it, because, I feel denied by society, been mobbed in school and had no anchor to relie on expect music, where I can be and do whatever I want, without being minded sharing my passion with others and yes the fact that one good song statues upon the grave of tons of abadoned, neglected and "not feeling to complete because heat of the moment" projects, is what I can commit too.

Awesome vid! I feel the exact same way! My music is never on a level as other more trained, skilled. Yet I come up with some authentic stuff I really get stoked on. I create the odd thing and I get so pumped and I find it's so if I approach with a strong intention. I like zeroing in on playing nice tones as best as possible, like I'm drenched in the vibe. I know nothing about recording, so I'm just using my loop pedal. Got me pumped to stay with it longer this time. Man great transparency and honesty here! Thank you!
