Dude when people ask me about Improving their production this is exactly what I want to tell them and you have explained it beautifully and in much more detail than me. A lot of these so-called production experts on RUclips are talking out of their asses, just trying to package the shit that everyone who's serious about music production already knows with click bait titles. It was refreshing to see someone actually doing it the way it's supposed to be done. Mad respect to you and I'm sure a lot of people will learn from your videos. Best of Luck.
Haven’t seen one of you videos before. Only 1:20 in and can already tell you have put a ton of thought and spent a lot of time learning music production.
This is amazing, I feel how you feel, telling people about how it just "sounds good" but not knowing how to explain how I do it, and having this to show people is literally perfect
Never seen any of your videos or content (guess the algorithm's working) - but damn dude the sound design on these examples sold me on your content immediately. Awesome stuff, and good tips.
Tbh sound selection has been lost on myself since I'm using same sounds just for ghost productions and my own sound. Whenever I feel lost, I'll turn back to this video and remind myself how important new sound selection is. Thank you so much, Fikardo!
Luck is when preparedness meets opportunity. Great words. Reminds a Peacefull warrior. All your life is training for that. The right effort at the right time and the right place.
Whoa... This is the type of production advice I've been desperately looking for, only to keep getting the same 5 tips under different names. You're talented, man! Thanks for sharing that sauce.
Love the video. Just thought I'd give you a little English tip, in case nobody's said it yet? "well" would be used as an adverb if it was modifying "sounds," but we say "It sounds good" because "sounds" is a linking verb, and it's really "it" that is being modified and therefore requires an adjective, "good." "It sounds good" is proper. You said it a lot in this video so just thought this might be helpful... thanks for the video. very very good. i already understood this general concept but seeing it explained so clearly makes me think about some of my unfinished tracks and how i should go back and analyze them based on the frequency spectrum.
First video of yours I’ve seen. By far one of the best sound selection vids I’ve watched. You spend a good amount of time discussing different options and provide very professional examples of each, all while keeping things real and not over complicating things. Earned a sub!
Oh man first 30 seconds sums exactly my most painful struggle in music production at the moment, haven't even watched the whole thing but Im all tuned in :) EDIT: Ok saw the whole.. Layering is definitely very powerful full to get origial and full sounds. Only lately I started to layer in a more deliberate way. Still need a lot of "ear mileage" for improve on that. Very helpful thank you
Just want to say I am so glad I stumbled across you on youtube! I loved this video and learned so much!! I really like how you go in depth and talk through the whole process!
Mad good video my dude. Such good insight and techniques in this one. ❤️🔥 Producers should know, there's a wealth of info on the web about music production, but not everyone will teach you useful things. Fiko, you're a beautiful example of someone who constantly provides useful and tangible value.
yo this was an insanely informative video. I like how you asked yourself questions to discover what you wanted to do in the sound selections, and how it all relates back to songwriting and creating that tension/release. Much appreciated fiko!
Hands down one of the best sound selection vid on YT!! The frequency spectrum method is definitely a key to bring more original sound. Definitely will rewatch it from time to time. Thank you for the great video !!
First video of yours that I’ve ever seen and I already know this channel is worth subbing to. Sound selection & sound design are my favorite part of making music. This helped a lot
I love the concept ''KISS'' it stands for = Keep it simple and stupid. This is basicly the rule of what u just did! Such important message here fiko! Im extremly proud of you! Every video is like a breaking bad episode
I just clicked on video on my youtube hompage! And it provides a lot of value and was really interesting so I watched through the whole thing. Everything was so well articulated. Keep it up!
Dude you've helped me so much with producing progress. I dont even use fl, i use ableton, and yet you are better than everyone else on explaining for us humans that have not mastered any DAW. I dont really like the 300 ads in one vid but keep up the tremendous work my friend. Subscribed.
Totally agree about choosing the right sounds. The right ones can completly transform a track to a whole new level. I've had tracks that are going nowhere then swapped a sound and hey presto!
Great tips! Layering sounds is always a good idea to get something that sounds familiar, but new. A few tricks I personally regular use is adding heads and tails to my sounds using some lush pads. For example working from MIDI move it forward or back and add violin, choir, drones etc. for easy mixing add some low/high pass depending on your need.
love the sound he makes, the sense that led him to choose or modify the sound, but mostly, the explanation he says is simple and accurate. He knows what he's doing. Fanscinating. 💪
3:54 Ahahaha I didn't expect those singular shitty sounds would sound nice when they all blended together lol. That was mind expanding :D 5:30 is a nice detail btw ahahaha body language of "idk bro it may sound good at the end of the day then i might be wrong because music is limitless" 11:32 nah mid/high area is still too crowded and those frequencies are fighting w each other, surely if the intention was extreme distortion, you can use like that but to make more compatible to each other, you should have flipped what you have done with the number 5 knob of the EQ seconds ago to the down. And you should have give other frequencies a pass, as for two other frequencies which are in the mid range, you can also seperately deal with them to share the frequencies they're in. In that way, for the sound itself already distorted, you will also have distortion but with a clean mix. Just an extra info. Nice video in a long term, I enjoyed. We producers always know different things from each other (For example that "shift + arrow" thing was something I didn't know although I know most of the shortcuts), so it's good to catch something or see how another producer do. Wish you good luck bro.
I had a realization that some sounds are alway together in our favourite songs The classic Boombap drums + Piano, or the Guitar+Flute+808 thing are an example My personal favourites are the soft sine/saw synths with portamento + r&b drums Big Far Reverb guitars + in your face fuzzy Bass(like those arctic monkeys records) Or the Dub delay melodica + very deep sub Bass I think contrast always work: Clean vs Dirty, Wet vs Dry, instruments with fast atack plus some soft ones, etc. Which sound combinations are your go to? And why do you think they work?
Exactly what I was thinking! My personal favorite - 808s + bells. You can make some real addictive bounce with those. Great example of this: Bad Meets Evil - A Kiss
Wow man, this explain a lot and super well, i mean i never thought on that manner. this is a really good explanation of how music works and it's awesome!
Thank God for the RUclips algorithm I stumbled across probably the best music production tips channel that will help me improve my production skills, thank you very much for these informative videos sir🙏🏼
Nice explanation of everything, Now I will test the things :3 , I love about the ''vibe'' part, and how the sound changes a lot just with a reverb that you put like the raum, love this vídeo (liked and subscribed
excellent explanation of layering in reference to the frequency spectrum. This makes mixing and mastering later on the production process so much more intuitive. What is that gargly bass/horn sound you use in 5:39 ??
First drum loop blending better with the second sound…it was more contrasted..but it did go with the first drumloop… Second drum loops matched perfectly with the more aggressive sound
Depending on luck all the time xD Trying to eq and fit sounds together, when i could just use a sound that would fit better or play an octave up or down... I'll have to keep that in mind! All this little videos... 100 tricks here 20 tricks there... I know so many tricks by now but the basic concepts are missing and i struggle to connect those techniques.. So this video was really helpfull! Tnx for structuring some of the weird stuff in my head ✌
@@dumdum-wo3oc i fell like moste of this comes down to practice... just finishing tracks and not having hundrets of ideas but finishing just a few. We have to make those mistakes to learn from them I gues. We will get better and better, thats the process :)
"You can break every single rule" - Instructions unclear, making my sub stereo and putting sausage fattener on my master and my snare.
if the end result sounds good nobody cares about the process my dude...
@@fiko_music Haha obviously. going to high pass my sub now
If you think its nice you can also let your master peak at -25
stereo sub, reverb on kick, reverb on master. more reverb bussing. 12 ott. distortion on master.. getting close 🤏👍
fattener + gross beat + drip , every channel, and master 😂

wouldn’t that be kisas
@@beenscxrin yes, KISS means keep it simple, stupid
No, KISS stands for "Keep it simple, stupid". The word stupid after the comma is meant as a call out to the reader/person advised.

You're one hell of a producer and a great teacher! Awesome video dude, this channel is gonna blow up in a couple of months. Keep it up!
Great video. When making any beat, I always make sure the drums and melodies support the idea of the song/idea.
You are literally the best at explaining stuff bro. I appreciate your videos
10/10 for the thumbnail

High quality videos hella refreshing to see.

Honestly, this place you're creating is heaven.
Not just giving random tips but also showing how it can be done! ❤️

As always epic bro ☁️
Great vid!
Since sound selection is what's gonna make the sound, what will blend together and sound good, I think it is part of mixing actually.
thats like saying arrangement is a part of mastering because arrangement would affect how you master
fiko great video merhhhnnnn!!! im not done watching but im already loving this...soooo so insightful
