    I have a Short Lane 45 Colt adapter for my two NEF 12 gauge shotguns
    Have never had a problem extracting the expended cartridge cases. Time consuming, perhaps, but no problem for guns that are used for hunting, rather than defense.

      I hope to see more of this one in the future. I've owned several and still own a few 32's. They're a lot of fun in a pistol and I've always wanted 1 in a rifle. This is a relatively easy way to accomplish that

      @ Thanks. Don’t know if you remember, or are old enough to remember, there was an AR patterned rifle sold through the gun magazines of the 1980’s called the AP 74 and the AP 71. I believe it was the AP 74 that was chambered in .32 ACP. They were selling for under $100. I don’t know why I never ordered one. Been looking whenever I go to a gun store or show. I’ve found parts, but that’s it. It would be great if someone was to revive these.
      Thanks for commenting.

      @@diggingoonschmitYes, I always wanted 1. I had an opportunity to buy an AP74 in 32 ACP in 1984 but I didn't have the money right then so someone else got it. About 5 years ago I saw 1 at a gun show in pretty poor condition for a ton of money and I passed on it. They were pretty good guns but not worth huge money.

    Well, thank you OP! TIL the H&R Topper 158 was sort of the precursor to the later Handi-Rifles. I happen to have a Topper 158 so it'll be interesting to find what calibers that action/frame is capable of handling. I do know when it comes to using these adapters there is an issue with the action/frame and its firing pin. Most seem to be able to handle NON magnum pistol cartridges but not all can withstand Magnums or high power rifle cartridges. In those that can't, the firing pin usually punctures the primer, then the blast from the primer hole damages the firing pin and sometimes even ejects it backwards out of the frame, often hitting the shooter. There are videos on YT of ppl who've experienced that problem.

    • @diggingoonschmit
      @diggingoonschmit  11 дней назад +1

      @@dkeith45 yes, you are correct. I would stay away from the magnums and stick to cartridges of lower pressures. The purpose of my set up was to have something similar to the old European Rook Rifle concept. Something that hits fairly hard, a larger bullet, but little to no recoil, and very quiet. Reloading gives you even more options. Next possible project might be a 30 Carbine insert in order to load heavier slugs of 150 or 180 grains.

      Up to 40k psi has been factory installed on early 158 Topper shotgun frames. So a 44 mag or Ruger level 45 Colt are good.

    • @dkeith45
      @dkeith45 2 дня назад +1

      @@johnmills837 Looking back at some literature of the time, I see there is listed a 158 Topper (possibly the handi-rifle precursor) and a 158 Topper Shotgun. Can't say if both actions/frames were the same? But the caliber for the 158 rifle seems to have topped out at 30-30.

    Did you epoxy that rail on top or tape holes? H&R Topper 162 Buck has holes tapped for a Lyman peep sight from factory. 6-48 screws holes about .100" deep.

    • @diggingoonschmit
      @diggingoonschmit  8 дней назад

      @@raylaux8295 I wanted the extra thickness of metal in order to use 8-40 screws for the scope mount and get enough depth for the screw. So I silver brazed on a 1/8” steel sheet I radius formed to fit over the chamber area. It worked great. I did not believe the original thickness of the outside of the chamber to be sufficient/marginal, at best, to secure a base with a decent size/magnification of scope.

      @ They do not have the number of caliber options that MCA Sports offers. Since I like to modify these for an extractor/ejector, for me, I would not want the bevel on the chamber face they put in for prying out your cartridge after firing. But, they are trying to expand their lineup and their products look good. Thank you for your comment!
