Gents, please put this video into your repeat list every year. The info and level of explanation to help average hackers like myself make informed choices is 1st rate. Reducing that miss to the right has made my weekend rounds SOOOOO much more enjoyable.
This is what I really like about TXG reviews! Compared to most other reviews you actually understand fitting and what it is all about! There can never be one for ALL, all for ONE!
PING SFT is by far the winner... Looking forward to the “Better” player test! By far the best golf related RUclips channel ! Always my go too when it comes to club reviews and also Rick Sheils who gives a pretty comprehensive format similar to you guys !
I had Taylormade start of year switched to epic flash middle of year and now I'm gaming g410 plus. I hit a slight fade and the g410 plus in 9* set to draw with a alta regular shaft at 45" playing length which is a monster. I've never hit a straighter and more forgiving driver ever in my golfing years and this will be in my bag for years to come. Even purchased 3 & 5 wood to match and again there true fairway finders
Always love the vids. This is one of your best IMO. When Matt slows his swing speed to "average" he still maintains an incredible consistency. This was really helpful. Amazing.
I am in 2 minds about draw biased drivers. At start of year I had my usual issues with "over fades" and set up my Epic in the most draw biased settings possible (lofted up a degree, movable weight to draw, shaft/hosel set to draw) which gave me more control. About that time I tested the M6 Draw driver which was brilliant - a good 10 yards longer than my Epic and straighter. But since then I have had lessons and shortened the driver shaft to 44.5". Completely transformed my driver and I have gradually dialed out the draw bias in the Epic settings (still lofted up a degree but will be testing that on trackman), probably now hitting it as long as the M6. Adjustable drivers may be more expensive to start with but with lessons you may find they work out cheaper.
Well done! Great job putting out the data for personal consumption. Also thank you for using slower swing speeds....I believe the average golfer makes up the larger pool of golfers (I could be wrong) but seeing numbers similar to my own certainty makes the videos more compelling. Looking forward to the value comparison! Hoping you’ll have the Tour Edge Exotics 9.5 in that group! I’m a Tour Edge guy....love the clubs and support from the customer service. Keep up the good work!
Great video and series. Love the different aspects you look at. One thing that I would find helpful (same with wedge video) is a recap summary at the end with all winners shown in a summary graphic.
Ian and Matty have a Merry Christmas! I love your channel and Ian i will fly up to see you one day from LA. I dont want any other fitter but you! Cheers! Rick
I found this in an old conversation between other people that are short the like playing flatter lies here is the conversation: I have a Tom wishon 919 11 degree driver. I had Tom bend it to a 53 degree lie angle. so about 6-7 degrees flatter than most. He searched his inventory and found the flattest one and bent it for me. I absolutely love the thing. Literally impossible to hook. If you ever wanted to hit a "power fade" this is the club. When I try to fade a more upright driver it usually results in a pretty week slice. For whatever reason I put a ton of spin on it. With this thing it's a slight fade but it carries forever. I play to a .8 handicap and can hit the R15 9.5 degree 320-350 yards (granted I live in utah and the ball carries a bit more here due to elevation) but I hit the 11 degree wishon about 290-320 with a very consistent fade so sometimes I'll remove my 3 wood and play 2 drivers, my r15 for a long draw, and my wishon on holes I need to remove left side.
Great insight… interesting that manufactures call a driver draw bias but forget to mention its only relative to their own products of that year. Taylormade M6 D-type is less draw bias than the Titleist TS3 according to the Mygolfspy ‘lab’ report this year.
And funny how normal M6 was fade biased asf.. So to be honest, normal M6 should have been called M6 Fade and M6 Draw should have been called just "M6".
@@NovaScene Agree... It would be great if a channel like this could enlighten us on the BS marketing…. Golf equipment should always be about getting properly fit but unfortunately there aren’t too many TXG’s….
Ian I have a question if you bother to answer. I'm 60 and I used to slice a lot. I bought a Callaway Rogue Draw Driver but wasn't fitted for it. This year I have been hitting more fairways and staying out of the woods more than ever. I do still slice it out of bounds about 3 or 4 times a round. Here is my question. On the sole there is a 5 Gram weight. If I change that weight to lets say 7 or 9 Grams do you think that will help me draw the ball more and be more in the fairway? Thank you for your response and keep up the fantastic work! Your videos are so interesting!! .. Mark
Got a new M6 from an original M2, couldn't get my same flight or distance. Tried a different shaft and it didn't help. Watched your earlier driver playoff bracket and realized that I should go get fitted unbiased on brand. Ended up with the Epic Flash w/ Fujikura Pro 62 x flex and wow what a difference. Straighter and longer and I disliked the color so much I never would've even considered it.
Hi Ian, I play ping G ls tec 9 degree. Path is about 2 degrees left. I keep hitting high blocks and cuts. Is the Ls tech very flat in lie angle compared to other drivers ?
Nice test! Just goes to show once again there is no one driver for everyone even though several of these are customizable enough to work for a broad range of people!
This is a good series so far. I am currently watching the wedge review for the second time since I am getting new wedges after the new year. Your timing is prophetic as usual. Few questions for yuns though...What is soft step/hard step? What influences do they have? Is it something that will help the average golfer and should it be considered in a golf fitting? Topic came up in a conversation the other day and I immediately though to ask the best expert I ”know”.
this is my swing speed but I hit a draw, curious which shaft did you use and why stiff? PING and most say at 145 ball speed fits "upper regular" (like my Ping Tour-R)
Stupid question maybe, but if All the players who leak the ball to the right learned to hit a little draw instead plus got custom fitted, how many extra yard would that give them? As a general rule. Understand its a question that cant be answered specifically.
You guys need to include a few japanse offerings eg: XXIO, HONMA, YONEX. These drivers generally come with lighter shafts and are really forgiving and long for slower speed swigers.
Do you guys have recommendations for someone who hits it as fast as matt does (at full speed hahaha) but is the opposite? struggles with a fade? Im struggling with finding something that works to be honest. I feel like lower spin heads are naturally fade biased.
I know it would be a quick video to just do one club, but could you review the differences between a brands two drivers (or woods) such as the epic flash and the epic flash sub zero? I'm interested to see the spin differences, what Matt feels the differences are in forgiveness, etc. I picked up a sub zero driver on sale, and am looking to get the epic flash 3 wood as well, not sure whether I need the sub zero to match my driver or if the "more forgiving" from what I've gathered standard version 3 wood is better.
The average ball speed comment was interesting. What would you say could help to bring that ball speed up? I’m certain that lessons, technique play a large role, as well as strength training.. What training aids would you recommend have proven to help in improving ball speed? Thanks for all you do...

Amazing to see how much Matt looked like he was throttling back on this test, apart from the fade those numbers are identical to mine.. Now then if Matt could show us all how to ramp up to near his speed that'd be great!! Haha. :-)

If you're naturally long a fade is much preferable to a draw. You can talk to a slice, a hook is going where it's going and quickly. Generally nowhere good. I hit a natural draw and play it with my driver simply because I'm 15 yards shorter with a fade and I dont have the yards to give.
Challenge for you I have a playing swing of about 108-110, my step on it swing is about 118. But my spin on both is about 4,000 and I hit it a mile in the air. Max distance on a launch monitor has been about 270. I see Matty hit them 320 with a 120 swing. Can’t find a fitter who can fit my swing.
try the lowest lofted Mizuno st190 or taylormade M5 with weights moved all the way forward. Also look at strike pattern, if you tend to strike it low on the face that can spike up your spin rate
I actually have a m5 with 3 weights set in a triangle tensei orange. My strike is good within a few millimeters center of the face. I guess it’s time to break down and get lessons.
Why is he only doing a 3/4 swing instead of a full swing?..kind of silly and not giving really a true guide to what's the distance under a normal full swing ..am I missing something?..I dont get it
