I have a question/concern about where the algae is sourced and is it tested for PFAS and heavy metals? Algae can easily be contaminated from the water it grows in and has been a problem for brands of chlorella and spirulina. The research I have found for bone health with K2 is that it is MK4 that improves bone health. I take a combination of the 2 with higher amounts of MK4. It is a small soft gel.
Hi! Every batch of AlgaeCal powder is tested by a third-party laboratory for microbial activity, heavy metals, mineral content and more. The final product is made in an FDA-inspected GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) plant where the highest standards are kept. AlgaeCal is FDA registered and has Health Canada approvals. It has been on the market for 20 years and has 3 clinical studies and a toxicology study showing extraordinary safety!
I compared Life Extension Bone Restore, Garden of Life, and Algae Cal. I decided on Life Extension. Seemed similar to me. Algae Cal is way over priced IMO.
I tried Aglae cal + strontium( bone builder) before, They made me constipated & stomach discomfort. And I’ve have switched to Garden of life ( vitamin code grow bone system) and I feel good. No constipation. Their ingredients are almost similar to Algae plus+ bone builder, but they added enzymes and probiotics which help a lot for my digestion and for the gut as well. I really like it. 👍
My concern about the AlgaeCal is that it's made with red algae, which contains carageenan. Carageenan make three unrelated cats of mine so itchy we saw vets for over a year before we figured out carageenan was the issue. Plus carageenan inflammatory, people with any inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, etc.) react badly to it, coming out of remission into symptom flares in response to carageenan. Did they by any chance take the carageenan out of it entirely?
Hi! The red algae they use in AlgaeCal is called Mesophyllum Superpositum and is a species of red coralline algae from the order of Algas calcareas. It does not contain carrageenan like some other sea algae such as: Eucheuma denticulatum, Kappaphycus alvarezii, Gigarina skettsbergii, Sarcothalia crispata, and Chondrus crispus) Here is a link if you would like to read more about it: algaecal.info/3xVKHiS.
Are there any studies addressing “rebound” risks should a person decide to stop taking Strontium after a period of time since it impacts the balance between osteoblasts and osteoclasts? Could that then increase fracture risk?

I’d like to see a review of Nature’s Way Alive Bone Support which also uses an algae based calcium plus additional minerals similar to AlgaeCal. I know you have a relationship with AlgaeCal so it’s not likely but it would be great for us to have an impartial review of Alive.
@@katielerchen3016 They're in capsules. You could always open the capsule and take the powder in your food. Good luck finding all your supplements in glass.
I like your balanced discussion on strontium. I am just over the osteoporosis mark in my femoral neck (still in osteopenia in the spine) so I’m not ready to jump into strontium as I don’t feel it is natural to have so much in the bone replacing calcium. As you said, not enough studies to show that it actually helps with fracture risk. I’m also concerned that it might contribute to brittle bone .
Osteoporosis center doctor took me off my calcium, said I was getting enough in my diet...got to my primary care doctor today, he didn't even notice I'd been taken off them, they really don't care
They give you the information Its up to you what you do. Another doctor said not to take it. discuss with pcp. Your health is up to you. Do your research and make good decisions. To say they don t care the question is do you care about your health or just eat drink smoke and all unhealthy lifestyle choices and put the blame on the doctors
Thank you! I’ve been taking this now for 2 months along with HRT and wearing a weighted vest when I walk. I’m looking forward to my next dexascan. I will say my back no longer aches between the shoulders like it was. Maybe a good sign!
I turned 60 and had my first dexascan. I have osteoporosis in my left hip and spine and osteopenia in my rt hip. My Md wants me to start Alendronate . I am very sceptical because it has so many side effects. I will rather try natural supplements first. Thank you for your very informative videos.

@@Lanscape81 Do some hardcore research before starting any drugs. Look up Dr. Doug's videos on bisphosphonates and Prolia (at least 3 different videos). Those are not good long term solutions, and yes, they do have a lot of side effects, some very severe. I was on Actonel and Prolia, and had some irreversible side effects. Also on Forteo some time ago. That's a completely different story. I would do that one again. Unlike the others, it actually builds bone. Fosamax, Actonel, Prolia, etc. suppress bone metabolism, which might look good on paper for awhile, but in the end is not good.
I’m 72 , female . Same here . I heard bones are made of minerals, not calcium . I do vitamin k , d , c and strength training is better for your bones . Read up on those calcium shots and pills . Not good ! I stay away from them . Listen to a video about calcium with Barbra O’Neal .
You made me cry. I was so hopeful that I found something that would help me and my MIL. Then I looked at the price! Who can afford this, especially when someone is on a fixed income? The 10% doesnt help either! Very disappointed.
I understand these things are costly. It's out of my budget, too. It could be the answer to my prayers but until money falls from the sky I won't be able to do it.
Don't worry, you can use food or cheaper sources: Dairy, sunshine, liver, heart, natto, eggs, egg shell, fish, lemon zest, bone broth, marrow, other organs, borax (tiny amounts), magnesium bath or topical spray, etc. These foods are extremely nutrient dense, inexpensive and some are free. Or ask your local health food store for affordable choices (such as a multi mineral). Our ancestors had strong bones without supplements, so consider their traditional diet.
You still have to do the workouts and things recommended but How can you say no to the guarantee they offer! You may get your bone density/ strength back and it doesn’t cost you anything if it doesn’t work. Specialized foods cost you money too
@@janrajek8634 While I agree that sometimes investing extra money in our health is worthwhile, the foods I and things listed are very cheap (or free), and as good or better than expensive supplements. Most of the suggested nutrients are in liver.

I am so glad you recommend Algae Cal Plus. I have been using it for over a year. I will be doing my Dexa Scan soon. I also was taking Strotinum but it was giving me loose stools, and I am trying to figure out why. I have had to stop taking 2 tablets a day and started taking one pill every few days.
@@joyceschetter5871 Yes, I still take it! My Dexa scan results were so uplifting! I was so excited! It all got better except one side of my neck stayed the same. I had to totally stop the Strotinum, and I know it also helps improve our bones. I also take collagen and do weights.
Have you seen the research by Dr Barrie Tan regarding vitamin E delta gold tocotrienol from annato seeds? He also recommends K2 mk4 instead of mk7 due to the increased bioavailability.
I discovered AlgaeCal a couple of weeks ago, ordered the 6-month supply, and just started taking it (the bone-builder pack with AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium). I've had about 4 dexascans starting in my 50s, and the most recent one was mixed: 97% PBD in my spine, but 67% in my left femoral neck. My doctor immediately suggested the dreaded drugs (which I think is weird considering the spine reading!), but I said no, let me take some time to think. Then I discovered AlgaeCal. So this video came at the PERFECT time. Also, I discovered your RUclips channel a few weeks ago because of a recent bout of hip pain. Highly informative video. I went to the AlgaeCal site and read the ingredients of AlgaeCal Plus. AlgaeCal Plus contains magnesium oxide. Is magnesium oxide absorbable? I think I prefer to get the regular AlgaeCal, add D3 complete, and separately add boron and another form magnesium.

As for the money back guarantee from AlgaeCal and its claim that it builds bone, couldn't the "better" dexa results be due to the strontium in AlgaeCal? If it is calcium that builds bone strength and strontium skews the reading of bone calcification in a Dexa (and certainly couldn't be compared to a previous Dexa prior to taking strontium), what good is comparing before and after Dexas? As you said in your video about strontium, Dexa is not the best indicator of bone health and we should be looking at other biomarkers and bone quality imaging. Is AlgaeCal doing studies of their product on bone strength and not just Dexa results? You also suggest that people take calcium at a different time than strontium but it is a component of the AlgaeCal. Thoughts?

I read that strontium thickens the outer bone, which is why Dexa changes. The problem is that thicker bones do not mean stronger bones. This thickening alters the tensile strength of bone. Also, the small amount of strontium 3-5 mg that is included in organic calcium products is okay, it's the separate products ranging up to 500 mg is not good.

@@YenNguyen-th4kz Thank you for that reply. I see Bone Grow is back in stock. I believe I will try that. Have a good day .
It does not contain carrageenan like some other sea algae such as: Eucheuma denticulatum, Kappaphycus alvarezii, Gigarina skettsbergii, Sarcothalia crispata, and Chondrus crispus)

Don't worry, you can use food or cheaper sources:
Dairy, sunshine, liver, heart, natto, eggs, egg shell, fish, lemon zest, bone broth, marrow, other organs, borax (tiny amounts), magnesium bath or topical spray, etc.

I discovered AlgaeCal a couple of weeks ago, ordered the 6-month supply, and just started taking it (the bone-builder pack with AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium). How do you know how much to take or cut back, from your every 6 month testing from your doctor. Final result is your dexa scan. If you can get a dexa before you start you will have a baseline to start with. My doc wants me on bisfosamates, im doing this first. Thoughts?

I'm 56 and haven't been diagnosed yet with osteoporosis but ive been in a job that i stand all day sometimes 10 hrs and have a back injury that had me on steriods multiple times. My knees are so painful. I do take collagen and a non gmo daily womens vitamin for over 55. Can i take the first one you spoke about in the video alone just for bone health?

I read that strontium thickens the outer bone, which is why Dexa changes. The problem is that thicker bones do not mean stronger bones. This thickening alters the tensile strength of bone. Also, the small amount of strontium 3-5 mg that is included in organic calcium products is okay, it's the separate products ranging up to 500 mg is not good.
Thank you for sharing this
For people with osteopenia, would you recommend half of dosage, ie. 2 algecal plus and maybe 1 or 2 Strontium pills? Thank you.

If the videos had subtitles will really help people who use English as second language to watch Dr. Doug’s very useful videos
En la parte superior derecha de la pantalla está una ruedita de configuración, activa y ve subtítulos y ahí vienen varios idiomas.
There are subtitles on his youtube videos
Hi! You should be able to change the closed captions to your preferred language by following the instructions here: Turn on closed captions by clicking the CC button in the bottom left corner of the video. Then, click Settings and turn on Auto-translate. Select the language you want for the subtitles, and the tool will automatically translate them.
A prescription form of strontium ranelate to treat osteoporosis is available in Europe, but it has not been approved by the FDA. Strontium supplements (not the same as ranelate) are available over the counter in the U.S., but no studies show they are safe or effective. Taking strontium supplements can actually lead to inaccurate bone density tests later in life.
This product contains strontium.
Hi! Checkou the video on my channel called "Strontium: Missing Secret Ingredient to Reversing Osteoporosis or a Supplement Avoid at All Costs?"
Is Magnesium & Vitamin D3 & K2 helpful for building bones or just good for overall health? I’m so confused as to which Magnesium is the best for absorption

I actually ordered this supplement. I took the strontium and I woke up to body aches, which makes sense because it’s strengthening the bones but my concern is I was told strontium can cause heart disease/heart attacks. Is that true?

This sounds like a commercial for AlgaeCal. It would be helpful it you would declare any potential conflicts of interest - for example do you get paid for this promotional advertising? Do you get a % when ordering it through your vitamin store (not sure what it's called exactly, just recall you recommending that people buy supplements through you)
Aside from that, the most recent information that I'm seeing says we should get our calcium from food rather than supplements. Supplements have been linked to colon polyps, kidney stones and calcium build up in the coronary arteries.
Thanks for your comment! I only suggest products that we have personally used and believe in based on their quality and effectiveness. I’m upfront about this because my goal is to help people make informed, evidence-based decisions for their health!
I am taking AlgaeCal and Strontium but do not see AlgaeCal D3 Complete- is it available??
it’s available on the algaecal site
Hi! You should be able to find it with this link --> www.algaecal.com/products/vitamin-d3-complete/
To be clear, even though I am on Coumadin it’s ok if I take K7? I have heart disease, Osteoporosis, and have fractured three vertebrae. I really want to take the supplements you’re teaching me about, but I’m afraid to take vitamin K. So you’re saying it’s OK if I do take it, correct? Thank you so much for your help. 😊
PS I have been taking Fosamax since my fx a yr ago. I’m not sure if that’s the way to go but I am terrified to stop taking it. I live with chronic back pain and want my life back.

Is algae tested for mercury??
Hi! Every batch of AlgaeCal powder is tested by a third-party laboratory for microbial activity, heavy metals, mineral content and more. The final product is made in an FDA-inspected GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) plant where the highest standards are kept.
I can’t find the D3 Complete on their website??

I've recently been diagnosed with Osteopenia. My concern with AlgaeCal is the following, I already take a low dose of Potassium chloride ER 20 mEq, I already take vitamin D3 (800IU) and I've been advised to take no more than 1200mg of calcium but it's very difficult to find calcium only supplements. Can you please advise where I could possibly purchase calcium only of 1200mg? Thank you in advance.

AlgaeCal is very expensive--which smacks of greed, knowing people are frightened and hoping they'll be willing to pay through the nose
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I completely understand your concern about pricing. With AlgaeCal, my focus is on quality and effectiveness, rather than cost. I believe that people deserve access to the best possible solutions for their bone health. That said, I know affordability is important, and I’ll continue to look for more cost-effective options that can provide similar benefits. Your feedback helps-thank you!
Their customer service is awesome. They spent more time with me than my doctor.
I am in UK and we cannit get dexa scan unless the Dr says so and then 5 years apart at the earliest. I have been taking Bone grow system for about 18 months after giving up Alendronic acid after 5 months use. I had already fallen and broken my wrist about a year ago. A few weeks ago i fell, and landed on my other wrist, it did not break it was just sprained! I also visit a chiropractor and my back seems to be a lot better butcagain, they are not allowed to xray. What do think of Bone grow system? It has some good reviews.

So let me get this straight are you recommending that people take two of each one of these three supplements twice a day wow that’s a lot of capsules. Or is just one of the supplements good enough good enough

Sounds like it's still al lot of pills to take if take all 3? I missed the dose needed on the last two so need to check the site out. Thanks for info
Thank you for watching!
Dr Doug is not suggesting that you take all three at once. This would give you too much of some nutrients. He discussed his concerns about too much calcium. I'm pretty sure that he would consider this too much calcium and other nutrients. He is giving you 3 different choices. Pick one or take one of recommendations at a time at the recommended dosage for that product.
In your optimal bone health workbook, you recommend not to take magnesium and calcium at the same time as they compete for the same receptors. Why is there calcium and magnesium in the same supplement?

Thank you for the great, informative video, Dr. Doug! I've read that strontium blocks calcium absorption so you have to take calcium and strontium away from each other. Is this true?

The US system is a shit one, people who need meds shouldn't have to pay for them, especially after 60
Right!

They guarantee an increase in bone density or your money back
Have you read the stipulations? In order to qualify, you have to have DEXAs right before you start their product and 6 months after. Who’s doctor is getting insurance companies to pay for 6 month DEXA scans?!

Supps are too expensive! Always pushing your products! People are on fixed incomes ya know!
The videos are for options to try. Not everyone knows every possible product on the market and which ones are "real". Perhaps one of the other products that others who are watching would work for you.
Hi! These supplements were reviewed based on quality. We personally review everything we discuss on this channel and will never advertise anything we do not find effective in our own practice.
Carol butts into your video every 30 seconds it seems "when I wake up in the morning". I would like to watch your presentation to the end but her interruptions are much too distracting.
Thank you for your feedback! I’m sorry to hear that the interruptions made the video less enjoyable for you. We strive to keep the content engaging while balancing contributions to keep the channel going. Your input is appreciated!
