Honestly to me her face is just like "eeew how old ARE you?!"
What do they mean, F-boi. Yes i know the term, but how does it relate here?
Yep the Doctor has had many companions & a selected few have become more than just a companion. 😉
@SaraLanc3 Thanks for the answer
She also hit that moment with Jack in Revolution, but this one hits it more poignantly.
Imagine if Elizabeth Sladen was still with us and Sarah Jane joined this duo to make a trio. Ace and Tegan would probably be super jealous that Sarah Jane had met 10 and 11 and even had her own adventures from her attic in Ealing.
Sadly; Ace was supposed to appear in The Sarah Jane Adventures but Elizabeth passed away before it came to pass. R.I.P Elizabeth 😥
Indeed
I’m so sad they never got to have Ace appear in the Sarah Jane Adventures. I feel like Ace and Sarah Jane would have made an awesome duo. I’m surprised Ace didn’t mention A Charitable Earth in The Power of the Doctor by the way. That organisation was first mentioned in The Sarah Jane Adventure and mentioned in other DW media so it would have been cool to see it also get mentioned in Doctor Who itself.
Fuck cancer am I right
would of been jealous that she had her own sonics given to her by the doctor 😂
I didn't know she died. I knew for some reason the show has stopped. Damn
I find it weird that Tegan is the pissed off one. Tegan chose to leave.
I think it's more the idea of the doctor never reaching out and checking on their friends after years of drifting apart. An idea reinforced by the Sarah Jane Adventures with Jo.
The doctor never looks back.
TBF, Tegan could and would blame 5 for everything and give the least charitable interpretation of anything the Doctor did or didn't do at any given time.
Ace, I cut more slack, but her relationship with 7 is a huge source of debate, because she was so touchy as a teen and 20-something that anything that 7 did was kind of a guaranteed failure, even when he was doing the right thing.
@@nvzblgrrl also, if you count the Virgin Books as canon, he REALLY fucked her over by delibratly getting her boyfriend infected by the Hoothi and getting him killed.
She's pissed because (a) the Doctor didn't reach out in nearly four decades and (b) she believed that the Cyber-Doll was sent to her by the Doctor after all that time, which brings all kinds of trauma. Of course, we later discover that it was the Master who sent it, but it explains why Tegan is pricklier than usual.
@@RopeDrinkAdric… 😭
This is incredibly awkward compared to Ten meeting Sarah Jane again. Come on Doctor, not even a smile at seeing them again? Ten LOVED seeing Sarah.
Not every Doctor-companion dynamic was as happy and warm as the Doctor and Sarah’s. Plus, Tegan was immediately bitter, which started the conversation on a bad note.
@@EditedAF987 Uh Sarah and the Doctor didn't leave on the best terms. She was booted out one day. I'm talking from the Doctor's POV, they'd be happy to see any of the companions again.
@-sageaegis-292 No that didn't end on 'happy terms' as it turned out Sarah wasn't even left in her proper country. That ending was more bittersweet than happy.
@@erosion271Well, Sarah Jane did see The Doctor again in The Five Doctors even though it was 3, not 4 & she seemed to have forgiven him. Added to that is the fact he'd sent her K-9 Mark III as a gift to protect her, so he did make an effort to reach out to her, unlike with Tegan & Ace.
@@Hodaris_Darlin 1. I know that. Stop with the pretentious, "I know more than you" lecture 2. That whole Five Doctors storyline is out of sequence. It's up for debate whether any of them remember it or not.

Do we actually have a canon reason as to why she left the TARDIS? Considering she isn’t in the TV movie, so she left pre time war.
@@potsdam28 Ace hints it in this episode, and in the Tales of the Tardis shorts actively states it outright. They don’t go into detail though.
@@dubbingsync Nothing officially stated. The BBC shorts with the original Doctors and their companions had Ace and 7 talking about a massive argument between them regarding the manipulative tactics that particular Doctor used that caused Ace to walk out, but they’ve never said what sparked it.

In the Five Doctors, there’s a scene in which it’s a simple hand-shake of Tegan and Sarah Jane.
I kinda find it weird how Yaz though she was special somehow I mean cmon also couldn’t she have looked at the Tardis archives at one point like Amy did
Millennial women be like: I am Special.
Rose made a similar assumption too
and so did companions prior
Its cause when they meet the doctor for the first time, they see this lonely person by themselves and think they have been lonely for a long time

Yaz confronts her in the Tardis after this scene, and I assumed it's about this....but nope, it's essentially "please explain where we are in the plot, Doctor" as a weak ass prompt for more exposition. And I fucking howled with laughter because it's just the biggest daft Chibnall trope, along with the world tour of random locations with the yellow captions.
The reason the doctor leaves them isn't because he/she hates them it's because he/she doesn't want to see them grow old and die
Wouldn’t it have just been nice if yaz saw herself in these women and left on her own terms instead of being told to leave by the doctor
really do wish the Doctor would of visited more past companions thru out time before they passed
See, I always assumed the Doctor did, off screen. Getting actors back is always hard, so they could have totally said that the Doctor visited them all. They never had to make the Doctor a jerk like that. XD
The special companions for the Doctor where Susan, Sara Jane, Brigadear Steward, Rose, Jack, Donna, Amy, Clara, River and kate Steward
I felt so sorry for the Doctor here. She was definitely hurt.
Also, Tegan left and didn't really act like she wanted more to do with the Doctor, too.
"You were getting on with your life" "You were my life"
"If I met her again, I'd absolutely know," while she's right in front of him, kills me every time
And 30 minutes from there, the Doctor will tell Yaz to go away because they don’t want to hang out with her anymore. Rip.
My favourite part about that was that there was no reason for Yaz to leave other than the Doctor wanting to regenerate privately and for some reason everyone just acted like that meant Yaz had to permanently leave and not just sit in the Tardis while the Doctor regenerates.

They should be glad, the doctor doesn’t really have a good track record with companions
This is why all the new who companions die or get sent to an alternate universe

I see Tegan is still a jerk after all these years..and her memory is short otherwise she'd recall that she abandoned the doctor not the other way around smh
Oversight or bad writing on this one from chibnall
@@Alphamask978 nah, Tegan was 100% like that in Classic too.
She's angry because the Doctor never tried to reach out and see them, not bc she leaved the Doc
She was jerkier than usual because the Doc never reached out after almost four decades, and when she was finally contacted, it was the miniature Cyber-Doll. She didn't know it was the Master - not the Doctor - who sent that traumatizing reminder.
That doesn't 100% excuse Tegan, but it explains why she's being a bit short with the Doc.
You think Yaz would have gotten a hint of this from meeting Jack Harkness twice.
These companion reunions all play out the same. Doctor sad and embarrassed, former companion pissed, new companion insecure, adventure happens, everyone resolves issues, old companions wish new one luck says good bye and the Doctor runs off.
Not when Donna met Martha or Mel.
Yaz was my fav from this period of WHO. Would love to see her back sometime.

"Oh my God! I thought I was special!"
And just like with Rose, I say, no honey, you are just ANOTHER in a LOOONNNGGG line that came before you.
And on the note of New Who companions... why are they ALL humans from Earth in the 21st century? It's fucking boring! Have some companions from the past, the future or aliens from another planet again!
I have been saying that for a while. The last non-human companion I think was Handles (One Special), or nardole (if you consider him non-human).
My biggest annoyance with this scene is that this could have been the moment to canonised Big Finish, or at least acknowledge it more. Don't have Ace say its been 40 years since she saw the Doctor, have her mention Hex.
No need - Night of the Doctor already Canonised Big Finish
@HoraceAndTheSpider I know, but Night of the Doctor is in that weird place because it came out on the internet, not on the TV. So whilst it is, for the moment, still "official", I would be a lot happier when the Doctor mentions in a random episode a Big Finish reference
Hell, have a reference to At Childhood's End, a novel about Ace meeting Thirteen and the Fam, which was written by Sophie Aldred herself!
for ace its been 31 now
The doctor's did Tegan some wrong before that mateys
Didn’t Tegan Leave on her own terms, Ace Sadly We didn’t see what happened between her and the Doctor, But Tegan Left and ran away from the Doctor, OF COURSE the Doctor didn’t visit her, they probably felt horrible and didn’t wanna be a burden. The way she scoffed at the Doctor it’s abit pushed for what happened in the OG series
The worst thing about this scene... is that Ace and Yaz already met... in the officially branded book that Sophie Aldrid wrote... that was released and takes place well before this episode.
Novels aren’t canon though
@potsdam28 if BBC is going to put the official logo and whatnot, it should be Canon.
I she'd gotten a better written run, it just felt like at every turn they made the wrong choices and forgot who the doctor was
What is it with these companions thinking they’re special and getting jealous when they find out The Doctor has had previous companions and will have more after they’re gone! The Doctor is thousands of years old at this point! Can anyone reasonable expect The Doctor to go through all those thousands of years without any companions?? Exactly. As much as I enjoyed Eccleston and Tennant's runs as The Doctor, it's hard to deny that Nu Who is a YA (Young Adult) show. It's so much more about the companions, their FEELINGS, and their imaginary relationships with The Doctor. So much melodrama.

Someone explain why the doctor being a woman pissed so many people off. Please. I liked this doctor. I mean she loses..badly. but i thought she was clever.
A) misogyny
B) It was actually the showrunner that sucked hard and picked an actress that hadn't the attitude to portray the doctor.
*Sigh* No one was pissed off that the Doctor was a woman. Everyone was pissed off that it was shit, and the showrunners using the fact they were a woman to bombard us with woke bullshit and fuckup the Doctor Who lore for the worst. The master was a woman long before this, no one cared.
@@papastokely5993 Can you please define what _woke_ means?
Because all I can ever get as a definition is _women and non-white people being prominent characters,_ which if you really mean it when you say it's not because she's a woman then that can't be it.
@@SomeoneOnlyWeKnow. Well, there's the actual original definition of 'woke' which simply means being aware of racial discrimination and prejudice, and then there's the contemporary cultural definition which has constantly been evolving but currently means (and this is the way in which I meant it) placing someone's racial/sexual/social identity on a pedestal of importance above the logic/cohesion/catharsis of the narrative you're choosing to relay/trying to tell/and the reality of the given situation. For example, the Doctor being a woman isn't 'woke' - but her characterisation/the things you choose to have her say/other characters say around her/go through/learn/point out within the narrative, can be classified as 'woke' if approached in a certain manner. The Timeless Child for example, feels like a story that was told to demote the importance of the historically male Doctor(s), in order to elevate the importance of the Doctor being all genders and all races... but mainly a woman. The Doctor may very well be all those things, but you've just sacrificed decades of character building for a weak concept that serves the 'message' you're trying to convey rather than the logical progression of the 'story' of the Doctor. There was the 1st Doctor and now we're on the 13th, cool, every line, story beat, self reference, mystery box, for the last few decades of the history has confirmed this. This is the character we know and that we've fallen in love with - a time lord that ran - that remembers his childhood, growing up, and eventually running away from Galifray. Now you've added a contrived retcon that serves no narrative purpose other than to implant the idea that the Doctor was "a girl first"... It’s weak story telling. You can tell stories that address racial discrimination and prejudice (which the show has historically done) without it being "woke". You can have "strong female characters" a la Ripley (alien series)/ Matilda/ Princess Leia/ The Bride(kill bill)/Sarah Conor(terminator series)/ the list goes on, that are travelling through narratives that address social issues that apply to them and affect them, without the films being "woke". At this stage, at least in regards of story telling terms, "woke" is just short hand for "weak story telling that focuses on leftist social justice issues".
P.s
I'm a black person...
To me I was perfectly fine with Jodie when she was announced as the Doctor. It’s Chibnal being announced as showrunner that made me nervous and for the most part rightfully so.

I mean, I don’t know much about Tegan. But I always got a more parent and child vibe from Ace and the Doctor.
7+Ace had a father/daughter + teacher/student dynamic, so a bit of that can be seen here (despite the terrible arguments and split-ups they had throughout Big Finish). Honestly, those highs and lows are what make them such a good team to watch/hear.
