It's actually a really great scene for establishing the Doctor as a relatable human being. But here's the thing about that: _she's not human._ Not remotely. She is (supposed to be) _more than human,_ someone who has seen far worse things throughout the centuries and still manages to maintain an inspiringly upbeat attitude. Because if there's *one thing* the Doctor does better than anyone else, it's bringing out the best in the people around him... or her, but I can't recall a time when Thirteen has done that. In a vacuum, this dialog says more about the Doctor that it does about Graham, which _could_ have actually been taken in an interesting direction. Like if the Doctor was genuinely suffering from a rare crisis of confidence, and is no longer able to give inspiring speeches, perhaps as the result of losing her home planet, this would be a potential avenue to develop the character. The show doesn't mention it, but if you look closely you can see the Doctor get more and more hunched over as time passes. This was because Jodie hurt her back from carrying the series.
It reminds of that interview where Jodie said she deliberately lowered her height and zig zags around the room like a crazy person as part of her Doctoring. Lovely detail.
@@manofjesuschrist7351 The best doctor is not "decided". Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. I like David Tennant very much but Jodie Whittaker is also a very good doctor. The role suits her very well.

@@manofjesuschrist7351 Yes I understand, but if you can, I suggest you watch a few episodes of Jodie. At first I was reluctant to watch her seasons but after seeing season 11, I really enjoyed the 13th Doctor (although the writing is not very good).
She's brilliant, I love her! Also one thing I find really interesting about this incarnation - she doesn't like the idea of being alone, whenever she has to part ways with her companions (even if temporarily) she always looks so down, and she didn't take Ryan and Graham leaving well at all with her on the verge of tears at the end of the special... thankfully she still has Yaz but I can only imagine how she must feel, this Doctor definitely values friendship and the company of others, and I love that!
Her last 3 incarnations didn't exactly part with most of their companions under the best circumstances (I'd say last _8_ if it weren't for the fact that Nine broke the cycle while War never had companions as far as I know), and Ten (and Five, and Seven, and Eight) in particular ended his life in a very downer note, and while more bittersweet, Twelve still died alone. Can't blame her for not wanting to go through that again, and at worse, become Time Lord Victorious again, especially with the Valeyard being just around the corner
River, Doctor’s wife, told the Doctor to never travel alone. She knew that not only does he/she/they enjoy the company of others, but really, they need it. No matter who they regenerate into. So while the Doctor hates goodbyes and never admits to enjoying the company of their companions, do they still love and value them? ABSOLUTELY! ❤ I love that the most.
This non-canon Doctor is unable to be liked. Jodie Whittaker played a much better character in my Chameleon Universe Doctor Who (the playlist on the channel will explain why it's called that)
Jodie's Doctor being affected by Chibnall's subpar writing reminds me of if Patrick Mahomes was coached by Rich Kotite. 13 was so enjoyable. I wish she had better writing.
@@billyswift5394 yeah, Chibnall said he wanted to let fans theorize and not say which is really true, I think this is maybe the master that killed missy and found a way to change his timeline, but idk. There’s also still the question of how the master was able to consciously control how he regenerated, because he was able to regenerate into the doctors friend and then kill that person.
She's my favorite doctor with my least favorite writer for the show. However, even the subpar doctor who writing she's absolutely stolen my heart with her doctor. I'm so happy to see other people who also adore her.
@mattthesilent777RED well, uh, obviously people can like 13. And I genuinely don't know how to explain to you how actors use subtext and body language to make up for a lack in writing- it is very common and difficult for any actor to pull off. Jodie did it swimmingly. You're allowed to dislike her, but let's please stop pretending like it's objectively correct for you to do so.
I really really hope we see her again! Big Finish, Multi-Doc special, Tales of the Tardis whatever, bring her back. Like her run or not, Jodie Whittaker is a historic bit of casting in Doctor Who and I thinks she deserves a bit more credit for it than she often gets.
If Peter Capaldi was the incarnation that brought the Doctor the closest to his dark side, Jodie balances him by being the one closest to his light. She’s so whimsical and curious, and kind. She feels like the version of the Doctor they always wished they could be. But between the time war and all the losses they faced through out their travels they just had too much of a heavy heart to embrace that lighter aspect of themselves. But with Galirfey saved and 12 finally coming to terms with his identity and the question of “am I a good man”, they were finally able to put the darkness aside for a while, and enjoy just being a joyful traveler
Well spoken! When her era started I went through a difficult time but watching 13 and her advenuteres helped me to not solely focus on the bad things which happen in life but also the good stuff like spending time with your loved ones. I´m really gonna miss her and hope that we see her again in a future special.
Kind?? Apart from that time she executed a bunch of spiders by sticking them in a vault and letting them starve? Or the time Graham admitted he's scared of his cancer returning and she's too socially awkward to console him?? Or the time she used the Master's new ethnicity against him by revealing his appearance to a bunch of Nazi's?! Completely ignored Yaz's feelings!? I dont think any other Doctor has been this incidentally cruel.
@@terminatrix92What would you have done in those situations? There was no time to deal any other way with the spiders to protect the city unless shooting them. At least she was honest about not to know what to say right now (which some people also feel in reality). Dealing with the Master is never easy and he had it coming. To be fair she could have been a better friend to Yaz but calling it "cruel" is a a bit exaggerated.
@@93Chowo I could forgive some of those tactics? But all of them?! She could have led the spiders into the tardis and dropped them on another world? Killing them humanely would have been more acceptable than starvation! Remember Eleven and the star whale?! He willing to make it brain dead over causing it more suffering. And Thirteen literally just walks away from Graham when he's asking for comfort. Even Twelve would have been kinder! Ultimately in Doctor Who there's always a better option; unless the writers aren't good enough to figure it out... My problem with Thirteen is she's so emotionally disengaged from her actions its borderline sociopathic! All jokes no consequences
@@terminatrix92 Can I remind you how the 10th Doctor drowned the children of he Racnoss? Or how the 12th Doctor at first didn´t care about that Clara´s boyfriend died and didn´t comfort her? Given how 13 and 10 have a somewhat similar vibe, I can see why she's your favorite. NGL that's why I enjoyed her as The Doctor. She had that chaotic energy that 10 and 11 had, along with the eccentricity of 12.
To be honest, I love this Doctor a lot. While the writing wasn't like the previous holders torch, she was great. I also like that they tried to continue a storyline from the original doctor who from 7th's era, being the timeless child. I am also not affected much by that episode either and rather enjoyed that train of thought and how it filled in plot holes from classic who and also redefined the lore into something deeper and possible a bit darker if one gave it a really good look. I am probably in the minority when I saw I kind of liked the timeless child, as I really don't mind. Though I do understand why it is... 'disliked'.
@@mysterygamermgclues8864 You're right, and I can see that happening. Though this type of situation happens so much in fandoms that one can only flip a coin at this point for how the fans will turn. Which is too bad, as I love this Doctor. I don't have a problem much with this doctor as I have a writer's brain, as my mom calls it, and understand what the show was going for. I don't focus too much on the commentary of the story for real-world things, as I do for the story itself in the show. That's why I love doctor who. And so many people write for doctor who, in books and audios, and create a story within the universe that it is amazing. I just hope that the fandom doesn't give up on this show, just because of this doctor.
Jodie was a great incarnation of the Doctor, since it was really interesting for me to see a female Doctor and her personality was really fun. Like everyone said, it was those damn writers couldn't do one job.
I hate how so many people are down on Jodie just because she's the first female Doctor. She's totally made the role her own and will set the mold for future actresses who play the part.
Mostly they're down on her because she's written as more helpless than all the other Doctors, and doesn't exude as much authority as they did. Whether that's up to her being a female doctor, her particular acting style, or the writing taking an inopportune turn during her run, is up to interpretation.
@@alicequinn505 also because it shows that she is not a doctor who fan something she admitted before taking the role and she has just a mix of 10th 11th personality all in al' her carachter seems bland and unoriginal every actor who played the doctor had their own twist to it and personality but Jodie the only difference is that she is a woman and well that's it

I love when the doctor references things that we know about from past regenerations. It makes me remember that she still has the old memories that we all love too. And while she’s like a different person, the energy is the same. With each regeneration, a lot of the weight and baggage from the last regeneration fades away, which makes me wonder - how does each regeneration remember old memories? She must feel them to some degree because she’s so afraid to let anyone in because her companions always either leave her willingly or die… but she also becomes brand new like they don’t affect her anymore. Thoughts anyone?
I always imagine it as some sort of a memory of a story, like when watching a movie. She knows it happened, but she can't really remember what she thought, or what she felt. Also, I'm imagining right now 12 cringing at 10's "Time lord victorious" phase. So, enjoy having this picture stuck in your head as well!
gosh I love her. I love her energy I love her!!!! the writing and acting for her is amazing. some may argue the episodes plots and pacing and everything aren't great, but the writing for 13 herself is great and Jodie just MAKES IT. Queen of being northern
The storyline was bad her acting was good but the companions needed to be better its a classic thing where a good actor is stuck with a shitty script and showrunner didn't think it would happen to doctor who but no song is immortal
I love seeing some liking towards Jodie’s doctor It may not be the best because of writing stuff, but she still did pretty good and it’s nice seeing positivity about it :D

The part at the end got me in the feels. She’s clearly not doing so well but then looks so happy and says "My fam," when she opens her eyes and sees every one around her.
While this era hasn't been my favorite, it's still so great and wholesome to see many 13 fans! I think Jodie Whittaker has been a really good doctor and a nice breath of fresh air
13 is great, love almost every episode of hers “Are you two seeing each other?” “I don’t think so. Are we?” Doctor being a lesbian (and me here loving it)
This scene is basically: "are you flirting?" "That depends, are you interested?" Amazing. I hope that one of the actors fought for Chibnall to include this scene, because this is quality writing that Chibs usually just doesn't do.
I created a Doctor Who universe where the Doctor is always a woman and they are all infinitely better than Jodie. But I must also point out that like personality and race, the Doctor's sexual orientation also changes in regeneration. Some of my female Doctors are heterosexual and some are homosexual
@@sheersternfeld1914 Don't quote me on it but I'm sure I read that Chibnall put this in as just a bit of levity, it was this that triggered the avalanche of Thasminites. yeah...no. 13 has brought life and fun to the Doctor yes, in comedy very similar to 10, yes. But to say she is just 10 played by someone else? Show me her pain, show me her fury, show me the lonely traveler who's been alive longer than anyone else who has so much bottled up pain they can't bare to share it with anyone and are afraid to hurt anyone they come close to, show me the unforgiving lord of time. 10 was a comedian, but behind his laughter was sadness, and pain. A sadness that 13 does not show. If you really need to compare her, I guess she's like 11? But in truth, she's just 13, she really is her own Doctor. 10 is jolly, but broken. 13 is carefree and hopeful. One line separates 10 and 13 so clearly. "No second chances. That's the sort of man I am." And 13 isn't that Doctor. The line to describe 13? One of 12's final lines. "Doctor, be kind."

@@sans1099 that would be amazing
The show doesn't mention it, but if you look closely you can see the Doctor get more and more hunched over as time passes. This was because Jodie hurt her back from carrying the series.
Well you're right, cause she couldn't with those damn writers
I’d imagine the doctor also wasn’t used to being a woman so she’d probably be hunched over from normal back pain
It reminds of that interview where Jodie said she deliberately lowered her height and zig zags around the room like a crazy person as part of her Doctoring. Lovely detail.
Lucky John Bishop eventually showed up to take a bit of the load off
He did WHAT?!
She was actually great just completely screwed over by the writers. We had potential for one of the best doctors
YES AH SOMEOME SAID IT!
The best doctor is David Tennant (10th doctor ) and always will be , 13th is stealing personality from 10th and 11th
@@manofjesuschrist7351 The best doctor is not "decided". Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. I like David Tennant very much but Jodie Whittaker is also a very good doctor. The role suits her very well.
@@Ines-do7fd like you said we all have our own opinions I stopped watching the show the moment she came In I'd rather watch Capaldi all day guess I'll skip 13 and wait for the 14th even that I'm not exited for because the show lost its value after missing up in previous seasons
ABSOLUTELY! ❤
I love that the most.

@mattthesilent777RED well, uh, obviously people can like 13. And I genuinely don't know how to explain to you how actors use subtext and body language to make up for a lack in writing- it is very common and difficult for any actor to pull off. Jodie did it swimmingly.

I really really hope we see her again! Big Finish, Multi-Doc special, Tales of the Tardis whatever, bring her back. Like her run or not, Jodie Whittaker is a historic bit of casting in Doctor Who and I thinks she deserves a bit more credit for it than she often gets.
I would looooove her back in the show somehow ❤
I think the 13th Doctor isn´t the only incarnation which is "cruel" regarding their actions. The Doctor isn´t an almighty god who can just do what they want to so the outcome of situations can´t be the best but more realistic ones.

'disliked'.
yeah i don't mind either but hey who knows a lot of them may agree with it in the future depending on how it goes on past this point.

David Tennant: Judoon Platoon on the Moon
Jodie Whittaker: Judoon Platoon by the Lagoon
I hate how so many people are down on Jodie just because she's the first female Doctor. She's totally made the role her own and will set the mold for future actresses who play the part.
hear hear! seconded.
Dat ain’t the reason chief
Mostly they're down on her because she's written as more helpless than all the other Doctors, and doesn't exude as much authority as they did. Whether that's up to her being a female doctor, her particular acting style, or the writing taking an inopportune turn during her run, is up to interpretation.
@@alicequinn505 also because it shows that she is not a doctor who fan something she admitted before taking the role and she has just a mix of 10th 11th personality all in al' her carachter seems bland and unoriginal every actor who played the doctor had their own twist to it and personality but Jodie the only difference is that she is a woman and well that's it

I like how all the doctors take pleasure in doing simple things with their companions. It’s very sweet.
So, enjoy having this picture stuck in your head as well!
