Boilermaker for 25 years I can say I’m pretty good at welding, but want to thank you guys for video, many young people want to start welding and this kind of video are like good nuggets. Always good to help the next generation.
Self taught in my truck shop. Thanks for all your videos, especially upside down, and tig. I do all my own fabricating. Very much appriciated. Your help has changed my life. Sincerely thank you!!
Beautiful welding. Jody, you have improved my welding an awful lot and I have welded for years. When I started years ago, very little instruction was given. I pretty much had to teach myself. Doing that, I developed a few bad habits. Like many other self taught welders I passed my methods along to others. I hope they are watching your videos too.
The TALENT, SKILL, and KNOWLEDGE is pure mind boggling GENTLEMEN, thank you. Jodi, you have helped me over the years in more ways than you'll ever know. I had to repair weld the frame on my Harley Dyna Superglide, a flat plate beneath the left side cover that mount the electrics. This plate is welded at the factory and connects to main backbone of the frame. Thanks to you and your videos, I was able to 7018, vertical up, all without removing the wire harness as well. 5000 miles later, all is well, the weld looks factory and has held up perfectly. At 61 years old my eyes aren't the best, and my hands are not steady either. I built the engine on my Harley and it makes more than TWICE the factory horsepower and torque on a rear wheel dyno, so the frame and its stress points get quite a workout. I use and love my small ESAB 160 INVERTER, yes made in China. Thanks again to you I'm getting a tig torch with a gas valve and willbe scratch start tig welding with the little yellow lunchbox. GOD BLESS you Sir, SARGE 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
5/32 * 7018 Three pass * Overhead * Fill-It Weld My first time ever seeing such a thing and this is teaching me good knowledge. I also been hearing the podcast and was recently listening to the show with Bob Maffatt. Great welder talk and info.
Another good one Jody. Andrew does a great job. I hope you haven’t retired Jody! Show us your magic again. If your like me I can’t see well enough to do the things I know how to do. Have a great day! 😎
This is clearly an excellent bead. I am sure it will conform to the NDT requirements. Lovely job, brother. Looking forward to more such useful information through your nice videos.
..I mean FknG WoW Andrew ! I'm not a welder in any shape or form, just occasionally every now and then I like to set up a joint for myself and burn box of rods on Saturday. Two weeks ago I was doing overhead and vertical up, and man... Your beads look like You're about 275 years of arc-time more experienced than I am :) All the best from Scotland
Listen up, this was faked! #1 at 3:14 there is a TON of porosity...How is that even possible with 7018? Why has nobody addressed this?!! #2 AND you used the same footage at 3:49 but called it a new one... RLY?! #3 You can clearly see that the weld is sagging big time, yet it's perfect when you show it cleaned up. It's pretty obvious that you welded the top side in flat to get a pretty bead and showed that and told us it was overhead. Expected more from this channel. UNSUBSCRIBED and THUMBS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Mark, thanks for the feedback. It takes alot of practice to become steady and know what to look for. Keep at it and you'll be showing me a thing or two! Keep it real in Scotland laddie!
I have welded 7018 upside down, I just started stick welding this year back around May 2019, watching the flux puddle fall off always screws with my following of the puddle. I don’t see any flux drip while you guys are doing this weld. About 160 amps on 1/2” mild plate . Maybe I’m not moving the stick fast enough or maybe too. Love watching pros, man does my lower jaw fall 👍👍
Luke Main plumbers and steam fitters local 33 in Des Moines. Competition is beginning of April. I’m graduating early in January so I don’t know if I’ll go. There’s a competition in Tulsa,OK at Tulsa Welding School April 18th that I’ll be going to. Already got the blueprints emailed so I’ll be working my butt of to perfect the project until then. 1st place is full tuition and a welder and some gear. 2nd 50% Tuition + some gear. 3rd is 25% Tuition + gear. I’ll be starting school there in June for pipe welding.
You are a good welder because you handle the positions very well when welding, you handle the amperages of the machine very well. When welding, they are difficult positions for, welding and tired, I also had to weld in the metal industry, mechanical, weld, in different potions, and also weld with 6010, 7024, and stainless steel, type 316, and with roll machines with hollow wire, with mixtures of, Argon gas, and co2. Best regards atte Jesús Gómez torreón coahuila Mexico
Awesome video and weld. I am starting out and I'm confused about the slag part do you not clean any slag until the very end? Every time I try this I have inclusions
Man there a guy in the shop on my old jobs he was very good welder and did great work. Always enjoyed helping him. Plus I work in every thing and going back to iron work or my last job. But I'm happy I can do some things even just be apart of a team of concrete crew but I will fine a job just want to make sure I'm k.
Your videos are awesome man, but what would be great is a video on overhead TIG with sheet metal. This is commonly done in auto body, but I can't seem to find any videos on it. Having a real hard time with overhead TIG plug and but welds on sheet (18 gauge).
maybe a dumb question here, BUT why dont you just always use higher amp then tight arc on flat position aswell? is it cause bigger arc (except long arc aka high high amp) makes the weld flow out better and get bigger or why is it not "usable" in flat aswell? great video as always (sorry for the bad spelling)
Good video, what's up with all the "home made" welding helmets lately, nothing wrong with it but I would not be able to resist painting a smile on this one making it a one eyed happy face.
I can never keep my body that steady. I'm usually doing repair type welds on machinery, trailers and such. Think you could get some content of some field repair type stuff? Even if you do it in the shop I'd still love to see it. Something dirty and not ideal, I've seen some of your cast and stainless part buildup from cracks or mismaching, always top not work. Keep the great content coming!
I hope those drips on the 3rd pass fell on the floor (5:00). I don't think my safety gear is ready for overhead (nor my skills). Great arc shots. Thanks.

Been doing nothing bit aluminum tig on mostly 1/8 to 3/8 ... I miss stick welds...specially overhead... just watching makes me happy....thanks

Its fillet weld, not "fill-it" weld, lol
Jody not only are you a fine welding teacher, but fine example of a teacher, or how to teach, teachers of other skills should take note.
Thanks Andrew and Jody. Beautiful welds and video shots! Thanks guys. Be blessed!!!
Yes welding round is harder, everything you say is spot on and that weld was excellent!!!!
Jodi your videos always amazes me. Another great video thank you. @ Jody you should run for president ! Jodi 2020.......

Great video and tips about rod angle, arc length and bead progression
I find that running the second pass on the top rather than the bottom makes it come out much nicer.

Thank you, Professor, for translating it into Arabic, and I am sincerely following you
The best of youtube!!
I just won one of those 210 welders at a statewide competition in Iowa. I got 1st place :)
What kind of competition? I'm in Iowa also.

I love over head welding in 7018s .
Andrew Cardin, your welds are phenomenal! How do you move so smoothly around the workpiece? What are you doing with your feet?

Good welder
Great clip. Very educational.
very good results 👍👍👍🙏🙏
Any advice for inside joints on angle iron? Getting into the very corner is the hardest thing for me. Thank you
Second that, worst bit to fix as well
Awesome video and weld. I am starting out and I'm confused about the slag part do you not clean any slag until the very end? Every time I try this I have inclusions
the trick is to restart quickly while things are still good and hot. also there is very little slag in the crater
@@weldingtipsandtricks Gotcha. I'll try that. Thank you so much!
Great video Jody, keep up the great work! 👏👏
Welding DEMIGOD,5 STARS...!!!

This video is very help to me. Thank you

Hi Jody. Do you have anything to say about tig dressing? I'm coming across it more and more in Caterpillar service literature.
Thank you.
Hey Jody, what welding lens is that? It’s real clear
Muito bom seus vídeos parabéns pelo seu trabalho
I love doing overhead stick.
Hello sir how are you? I like your chenal or welding class.
What a funny welding mask. Homemade?
Im in welding school right now, And I was wondering how to keep your hand steady on overhead v groove.

nice very good❤❤❤
Looks to me like sch.40 pipe, not tube. Was a bit surprised the wall thickness wasn't mentioned...
Excellent
very nice welding, very informative
Good video, what's up with all the "home made" welding helmets lately, nothing wrong with it but I would not be able to resist painting a smile on this one making it a one eyed happy face.

Why do I always see stick welders using that type shield instead of a regular helmet? Is it just preference, weight, or is there a specific reason?
Any chance you can try a plug weld with 7018 11/16 hole 1/2 -1/2 inch plate mine looks like bee hives and grape farms
Can you do mig but this exact procedure tube to plate 4f
nice working jaab

Dave M wait till ur sitting down doing over head and get one in the boxers lol
and they say welders don't say ouch.
Dave M we use a different word but same meaning lol
Que amperaje está utilizando?
How you guys not shake so much overhead? I tried it like he did, and I'm no where near steady as that guy.
Same way you work with me. Over head continue
Bhot achi thori hai or vido send karna good
