  • In this video, I demonstrate how I attach faux fur pompoms so that they are secure, yet removable when I wash the hat.
    The hat pattern I show is Branta, more info here:
    www.ravelry.co...
    The details of my Branta hat are on my Ravelry page here:
    www.ravelry.co...
    The faux fur pompoms I use are the 4" size from this Etsy shop:

    The button I use is from here on Amazon:

    I love this idea. Your explanation and demonstration were so easy to understand. I’m finally excited to knit hats. Mamas thanks.

    Your crystal clear explanations are far beyond anyone else's on RUclips, I mean it! Even for someone who is not a native English speaker, you make it impossible to misunderstand a stitch or a move. You are a real point of reference for knitting, specially for those who are self-taught, or should I say, RUclips-taught like me. So, once again, THANK YOU Staci!!! ❤️

    OMG...a button! That’s absolutely genius! I love it...my poms just wobble on the hat and I’m never satisfied with how they look. Using a large button as the base is so simple it’s scary. Thanks!

    This is so timely! I just finished a hat and received my faux fur Pom Pom in the mail and was thinking there MUST be a RUclips video that has a good suggestion for attaching these. I came home from my LYS and opened my computer and here you are! Thanks for the great idea!

    That button idea is fantastic! I just attached a big pompom from Fffabuknits and just tied it but the button gives stability and is clever!

  • @PattymacMakes
    @PattymacMakes 6 лет назад +1

    So smart!!! I tie on all my poms, even the yarn ones. I generally thread the tails through at wider intervals and tie them down, but I will try this button method the next hat. Thanks for sharing the pattern as well! I absolutely love it!

    You are so ON IT Stacy! Can’t wait to try this on my next hat. I was staring at one the other day and wondering how this thing wasn’t wobbling around, and how do they wash these things, etc. Thanks for the awesome tut.

    Great way to attach. I bought one that had a giant snap, which I like a lot, but wanted more colors and all I could find did not have the snap. Your way of attaching is genius. Thank you so much.

    This was a great video. I have a bunch of these pom poms but could never get them to sit on top the hat without wobbling. That button is the perfect solution. Also, from personal experience, I've noticed that faux fur doesn't wash well or can't be washed. It just wrecks it. So removing the pom is the answer. Thanks

  • @heatheranderson09
    @heatheranderson09 6 лет назад +1

    Oh my gosh this is a great idea. Up until this video I have just been permanently attaching the Pom by weaving the ends thru the stuffing of the Pom. If I didn’t do it this way the Pom would just be too wobbly on top of the hat and eventually fall off. Definitely will be trying this method on my next hat. Thank you Staci

  • @penzer2010
    @penzer2010 6 лет назад

    I like this idea for regular pom poms also. If you sell your hats and someone adores your hat but isn't into poms, you could lose the sale, but if you attach the pom like this, it is easily removable and no sale is lost.

    I do something similar... I use my yarn tail to sew a botton on (I look for fun buttons about 3/4"-1" on clearance) and use a crochet hook to pull the elastic look through and around the button. All of the poms I have purchased have small elastic loops, so this works great.

      Linnea McCormack - I wondered that about yarn ones as well. I just put yarn pom pom on several hats I just made but they're pretty secure. I had used a button on the back of a kitchen hanging towel I knitted, to secure the button on the front and it worked very well. So I'm sure it would work on at hat too.

    I wonder if a cord toggle, instead of a button will work. I'm thinking it may help to ensure the cord doesn't loosen as a tied bow might. On the flip side, it may not feel very comfortable.

    What is the best or most prefered faux fur pom pom? I've never used them but would like to make a few hats with them. And when I was looking to buy some I noticed some have buttons and are detatchable.. I feel like those would be nice in case the yarn and the fur pom pom have different washing instructions.

    Being an animal lover and animal lover lover, I do not support even faux fur ornamentation because it suggests the use of animal fur frivolously, however subtly the association isn't a nice one, way down deep in our psyche where we are all so humane.. Anyway I think this is a wonderful fabulous and very clever tip and will use it with regular pompoms a lot. Thank you so much, and also for so loving and being devoted to your dog babies. I admire you in so many ways.

    • @ooohlaa13
      @ooohlaa13 6 лет назад

      yes but on a deeper level which I am writing about, using faux fur implies its ok to raise and kill animals to decorate ourselves with ... faux fur still has the subliminal history of all that, I know very sensitive subject but someone has to call attention to it for consideration; fake seal fur or real seal fur still has the same connotation ... sorry i do not mean to offend, such raise awareness of subtleties.

    • @kathytincler2446
      @kathytincler2446 6 лет назад +1

      BarbaraL Lowell I understand where you are coming from & I hope no one is offended by your comment...I am not. Haters need to go away & we all need to grow up!. The reason I don't mind the fake stuff is because I thought for a large part it just isn't cool....not acceptable by the majority to use the real deal any more. I know it's naïve to think that the whole world is on board with that but I thought that now days ppl just don't go along with any of that much :)

    • @MegaMindyLou
      @MegaMindyLou 6 лет назад +3

      I see it just the opposite, wearing fake fur honors the animal. See I didn’t have to kill an animal to keep warm or look cute.

    • @ooohlaa13
      @ooohlaa13 6 лет назад

      thank you for taking the time to respond ... i'm not sure that many people don't think its fur, but nevertheless I said my piece on behalf of actual slain animals ... Peace to all, even those who still use it freely. We all have to start somewhere.
